So many twists in this one! I'm new to the author but I will look out for more from them in the future. It's highly disturbing but oh so gripping.

I finished this book in one afternoon. I have not done that in years! I had to see how it ended before going to bed. I think I got whiplash from all the plot twists in this psychological thriller. Every time I thought I figured out the direction the story was going, it took a turn down another path.

A fast-paced read that keeps you guessing with a couple "Oh Sh$t" moments thrown in, too! This was my first book by James Caine but I'm already adding his others to my library.

I struggled at first with the storyline of this book. There were several characters that I found hard to keep up with as well as the storyline. This may be more me than the book but it did keep you guessing right until the end so I would say persevere

Extraordinary is this book. From how the plot unravels the writing is superb. I must admit that are a few areas that needs to be cleared by the writer. Such as expand the story out side of the confined area. What I’m trying to say is write from the killers point of view as well. This way the reader can go inside the villains mind. Also, check basic spelling or minor typos. The story was so off the rocker. I could not expect a plot like this. Bloody brilliant. From the moment that Dawn goes down into the basement. The way that the whole story was told is so intense. I spent most part of the book trying to figure out who’s the killer. I would have like to have the flashbacks to the father. I just knew that this book was going to be brilliant. The book was so entertaining. I was not disappointed by writing and how the story ended. Stupendous writing from this author. Awesome job.

A quick, gripping and compelling read that I read in a few short sittings. It was twisty and kept me guessing all the way through

I liked this book but it took a weird turn for me during the middle part and just kept getting weirder the MC would think things at the most inappropriate times it was just kinda weird. I mean I thought it was good worth reading but just a bit unfathomable especially how the MC acted and thought about things.

Thanks netgalley and to the publisher for allowing me this ARC

I requested this book based on good reviews
I have to say it was not for me
The whole premise of the storyline was very misogynistic
Women were viewed as less than
The main female character referred to herself as stupid several times
The other females were very hard to identify with
Overall. It left a very bad taste.....

This book started off strong and hooks you right away! I was a big fan of the acting aspect of the MC. I like how the girls came together throughout and outsmarted the villains of the story.

This was just okay for me. I didn't love it, I just couldn't find a rhythm for it and struggled with trying to stay focused on the story. I read a lot of suspense/thrillers and I wasn't blown away with this one.

A gripping psychological thriller. This book had so many twists and turns. It was a page turner. What was suppose to be a fun weekend to celebrate Mike’s 40th birthday turned south really quick. A girl had been kidnapped and held captive in the basement. Mike’s wife found out all types of secrets about him and his brother. The two ladies plotted together on how to handle the situation. The family cabin held lots of secrets and death. Definitely a fun good read.

The Family Cabin has a promising synopsis, but ultimately it wasn't for me. I didn't find the characters likeable and it wasn't a page turner like I'd expected. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, you may enjoy The Family Cabin. Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this, I read it in 2 sittings, it would have been 1 if I didn't have to work! Thank you Netgalley & for James Caine for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review!

Oh wow. Okay, I know I've been saying "WOW" a lot, but it's not my fault if the books are so good the only way to describe it is by saying WOW-WOW-WOWZA, right?!

This is the first book of James Caine that I read, and boy did I get myself a good thriller-treat.
Let's start with a note for the author - I loved the writing! Very very much. It was clear, it was easy to read and easy to follow, I couldn't put this book down and I honestly read it in one sitting.
The story is great, the plot is amazing - and disturbing!, - the tense is there and pretty much all you're looking for in a good thriller/mystery/suspense is there, too. So yeah, I loved it and now I'm adding other James Caine's books to my tbr.

Back to The Family Cabin and this fantastic roller coaster of gasps-OMGs-emotions.

The story follows Dawn Nelson - a loving wife who decides to surprise her husband, Mike, with a weekend-birthday-getaway in their family cabin in the woods. It's not every day someone turns big 40, right?

So the plan is simple. Go to the cabin before Mike to arrange everything - sentimental decor, buy food and drinks, wait for their two other friends to come, - and then surprise Mike.
Dawn had everything planned, to the slightest detail. What she didn't anticipate was finding a young college student tied up in her cabin's basement. WHAT?!

Dawn is in shock, doesn't understand what happened. When Mike arrives at the cabin terror consumes her - should she tell him? Did he do it? Can she trust him? What should she do? How can she save the girl?

This book was intense! Not a complaint, because if a thriller isn't intense and doesn't have you on edge, it's not a good thriller and perhaps it's time to DNF. This one here is intense in a very good way!

Not only was it intense, it was disturbing at times and made me feel somewhat nauseous, which is not something that happens often.

I devoured this book page after page, desperately wanting to know what will happen next, gasping, OMGing, nearly screaming, not expecting the turns, trying to calm my heart from bursting out of my chest - WOWOWOWOW!

I did expect the ending would be what it actually was, but it didn't ruin the story at all for me. This book is great, and I'm so happy I had the chance to add yet another great thriller to my list.

Thank you NetGalley, Victory Editing and James Caine for providing me this ARC.

Amber has been kidnapped and locked in a basement somewhere. A guy wearing a wolf mask has her chained to the wall and is only giving her dog food to eat and water. But who is he? Why is she there?
Meanwhile Dawn has arranged a surprise 40th for her husband with another couple in their family cabin. What Dawn discovers rocks her world and a string of twisty and violent events follow.
Even though this book kept me reading until the end I did find much of it too far fetched for me. However it was still an enjoyable read.

This is my first book that I’ve read by James Cain but if the rest are anything like this one then I can’t wait to check them out. This book was amazing. Right from the beginning it had me hooked with an introduction that was to die for. It was so strong that you almost forgot that it was the start of the novel and had me questioning how it could possible go up any higher. There was a time switch in the beginning as well as a point of view change and while I normally hate both of these given the plot of this novel I understand whey it was necessary and it would have been completely impossible to get the story out if it didn’t have these two differences. The book starts out with a woman named Amber being held against her will chained in an unknown basement. We don’t know why she is there or who did this to her but she is desperate to escape. There is then a switch and we see a young woman named Dawn who is planning a surprise party for her husband at his old family cabin. It isn’t until Dawn goes to the cabin early to set up that we realise the connection between the two women. Amber is being held captive at that exact same cabin. This leaves us questioning who is responsible for her kidnapping? Is it really Dawn’s husband or could it be someone else with a sinister movie. The characters in this book were great and I loved the main girl Dawn the best. She was written with such strength and realism that it was easy to root for her. I found this book impossible to put down because I was very invested in what was going to happen to our characters. The best part about this was every time I thought it couldn’t get better the author threw a curveball at me that I didn’t even know we needed and surpassed me expectations. With lots of twists and turns this book really had me hooked. This was a story until anything I’ve ever read before or will read again. Amazing plot that leaves you speechless, characters that are super realistic, and a writing style that leaves you lost within his words this is a story for the ages and I’m so glad that I got the chance to read it early. If you want a book that will be talked about for years to come then check this one out, you won’t be disappointed
