I devoured this book in one day!
In this story, Dawn decides to throw her husband, Mike, a surprise party at their family cabin. When she arrives, first and alone, she finds a woman handcuffed and locked in the basement. Can she save her?! Who kidnapped her?!
This was such a fast paced read. There were no lulls at all and the suspense carried all the way through. There were many suspects throughout, and it kept me guessing for so long.
I loved how this was based in Alberta! 🇨🇦 Very neat to have a book take place in a handful of spots you’ve been. I also loved the dual POVs.
Highly recommend this book if you love realistic thrillers and suspense. Totally binge-able!
I went into this with no expectations but unfortunately I knew how it was going to end within 50 pages. For a short story this is well written but lacking any suspense or mystery for me. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a quick and entertaining read!
Wow! This book has left me speechless! I read this in one sitting due to the fascinating and yet scary storyline of a weekend getaway gone oh so wrong. Does not disappoint.
A crazy, intense story, that really left me shocked at the end.
Dawn arranges a birthday surprise for her husband Mike, but never expects to find out his dirty family secrets at the same time.
Dawn is at their family cabin getting it ready for her husband Mike’s 40th birthday. When she finds a girl locked in there basement meat locker she wants to help but the girl is chained to the wall and dawn doesn’t have the keys. She instantly thinks this is her husband doing‘s in has plans to call the police but before she can call them her husband shows up and she is forced to pretend everything is normal. They go to the grocery store while they’re gone it seems Amber has disappeared. then the friends she’s invited show up. And dawn must put her acting skills to work. It’s her husband a killer and if so who did he get to move the girl out the basement while they were at the grocery store? This book was so crazy oh I love James Keynes books and this is a great example of why. OMG what a twisty complex whiplash inducing story! I loved this book and highly recommend it I received it from NetGalleyg and Bookoucher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind to dictate my review.
This is a fast paced twisty thriller, that keeps you guessing till the end. I read this one in a few hours and it definitely kept me guessing. I liked that there were two narrators that told the story well. Definitely great if you want a good quick read.
Title: The Family Cabin
Author: James Caine
Format: eARC
Publication Date: 02/13/23
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A novel that starts in a dark room, where someone has no idea where they are, is my kind of novel! Always a great start to a book to grab me.
Amber is kidnapped from her college campus, only to later be chained to the floor of a cold dark basement. Her kidnapper, a man who wears a mask and demands to be called “Master.” Who will find her and will they save her?
When the book started, I thought I knew where it was going. Predictability is not my cup of tea. Boy, was I ever wrong. There were so many twists and turns, it wasn’t until the end did you know what happened.
I read this book in 2 sittings! This author was already in my TBR pile so I’m already excited to tackle his other books after this one!

Dawn has arranged a surprise weekend at the family cabin for her husband birthday. This weekend turns into a nightmare not only for dawn but everyone else involved.n, has ever made. Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for allowing me to read and review #TheFamilyCabin by #JamesCaine. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this my first book by this author. I will be enjoying more of his works. It was very suspenseful and held into me till the very end. Well Done!!!
A surprise weekend at the family cabin turns into the worst decision one of the main characters, Dawn, has ever made. Arriving before anyone else, Dawn starts to decorate the cabin to celebrate her husband's birthday when she hears a noise in the basement, when she goes down to investigate, she finds a young woman tied up. A dark, twisted and disturbing story.
The story is narrated by Dawn and Amber (the girl in the basement) which makes for an interesting read. I liked that part about the book the most, then the spooky isolated, hunting cabins was another plus.
The characters backstories are told in such detail that at times it felt like it was all fake or just a joke. I felt like it took away from the urgency of the present.
Thank you to NetGalley for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
