“Someone You Know” is a compelling thriller that delves into the harrowing experience of a family grappling with the aftermath of a violent crime. The story unfolds with a chilling scenario: a daughter who isn’t responding to calls or messages. The mother’s frantic worry turns into a nightmare when she discovers her daughter slumped in the basement, barely clinging to life. With her dying breath, the daughter utters a single word: “pushed.” This single clue sets the stage for a tense and emotional journey as the family seeks answers and justice.
The novel is structured around the before and after of the murder of Natalie. As the investigation unfolds, the reader is taken through the perspectives of various characters, each affected differently by the tragedy. The story is a slow burn, gradually revealing layers of the mystery. The slow drip-feed of information creates an atmosphere of suspense, with red herrings and suspicious characters adding to the intrigue. Recommended.
My thanks to NetGalley for a copy of “ Someone You Know “ for an honest review
I realised that Unfortunately I hadn’t downloaded this title on my kindle in time .Ive since read the book version and it’s as good as her previous books.Well written characters and suspenseful
I’ll be double checking my lists in future !
Lots of twists in this one and I really enjoyed it. I liked that the narrative flipped around with different characters to reveal a little more and at times, throw a red herring.
I found this book slow and i struggled to engage with both the story and characters. Unfortunately not for me.
An ok read that keeps you guessing right to the very end. A little bit slow in places and not too much of a storyline but still an entertaining read
As Natalie lies dying at the bottom of the basement stairs her final whispered word to the paramedics is “pushed”
But who would want her dead and why?
In this taught psychological thriller, everyone is a suspect as plot twists start to twist and turn leading you down some very clever rabbit holes and discoveries.
Even though this book is full of twists and turns this is quite a slow burner but it is definitely worth sticking with it for the shocking ending!
It is very character driven, and not all are who or what they seam, let alone some of them not completely likeable!
Like I said it is definitely a slow burner and took me a while to get into the book but once I was in in was completely invested into finding out the whodunnit and why. I thought I had worked it out a few times only to be turned around yet again.
This is my first book by Erin Kinsley but it certainly won’t be my last now.
I love a good emotional psychological thriller and I can see this book being extremely popular, especially in that genre.
A fast paced, tense and twisty read that was packed full of punches. I was kept guessing all the way through and felt like my heart would beat out of my chest
I was hooked from page one a d couldn't put it down. This tense and addictive book was brilliant. So exciting. A book worth more than 5 stars. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. This author’s style of writing appeals to me, the narration is clear and concise with descriptions that are not over flowery and this makes me want to keep on reading. There are many twists and turns to this story which started off as a who done it….(who did kill Natalie? Was it an accident or someone you know?) but also encompasses family drama and how life works in a small community. The characters are very true to life and I just raced through this. Great read!
An easy and enjoyable who done it with a good mix of characters who often times seem to have a motive for murder. The only one who didn’t ring true was the sad little girl Ruby. She seemed not like any five or six year old I’ve ever met. However on the whole it’s a boo’ I would recommend despite it still needing some serious editing.
It has been a while since I read a good thriller but this one had me hooked initially. I was really intrigued by the action and I’m definitely on the hunt for newly released, twisty mysteries that will keep me turning the pages.
When Dee’s daughter Natalie stops answering her phone, she rushes to the small cottage that Natalie shares with her young daughter Ruby. There she finds Natalie slumped at the bottom of the basement stairs, close to death. Before the paramedics take her to hospital, Natalie manages to say the word ‘pushed’. An investigation is launched. There was no sign of a break-in or robbery and Dee knows that it simply has to have been at the hands of someone Natalie knew. But who could have possibly done such a thing?
At the start of the book, Natalie has an unpleasant encounter with her next door neighbour Wilf, an old man who lives alone. Wilf garners suspicion from a lot of the locals because of his single status and slight eccentricity but Natalie’s daughter Ruby is really intrigued by him. I really hated the way that Wilf was treated throughout the book but the situation that he found himself in was unfortunately completely believable.
Dee reflects on motherhood a lot and wonders whether she raised Natalie in the best way she could have done. The story also delves into her marriage to Natalie’s dad Frank and the chequered past that he has. Sometimes it felt like these parts belonged to another book because although they were interesting, Dee’s internal monologues often detracted from the mystery and the investigation, which was definitely the most interesting part of the book.
Sadly, I hated the ending. The resolution felt like such an anti-climax and I think I audibly shouted ‘really?!’ when everything was revealed. I wanted a big twist to jump out at me at the end and it never did. In fact, I had an idea for one that obviously wouldn’t have ‘shocked’ me (because it was in my head from the start as something that I hoped would happen) but it would have been a much more impactful finish. The whole thing just sort of petered out and for a book that had kept me interested throughout, it really didn’t do it justice.
Someone You Know is a good story for the most part. I really enjoyed forming my own opinions on each of the suspects and trying to figure out what happened. The ending sucked and it lacked any twists at all really, which perhaps makes it more of a domestic drama than a thriller or mystery. It had me gripped though, which is always a good thing!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
Wow, I just finished this book in one day, I couldn't put it down. A clever, well-written psychological thriller that will keep you guessing!
I loved the plot and the character development. Regarding the plot, one of my favorite characters was the gay man, who after being accused of murdering his neighbor, found the strength to fully live his life.
Regarding character development, I liked that there was a world of grey, for the most part, people were neither good nor bad, but a mix of both, which is more true-to-life.
In short, this is a captivating psychological thriller written by a talented author who paid attention to every part of the novel's development, right down to the title. I am excited to read more written by this writer.
Until next time, remember, things are seldom as they initially seem.

Today is our stop on the blog tour and as fan of this author from the very beginning I can tell you she hasn’t let me down!
This was a great read; it comes at you so sneakily, slowly wrapping its mysterious tentacles all around you until you’re desperate for more. There were no great fireworks or jam packed action here but let me tell you I devoured every part of the domestic drama surrounding the murder mystery with relish, slurping my cuppa like it was a good episode of Emmerdale. I didn’t guess who done it and the characters were an interesting bunch - all flawed, realistic and relatable. Nothing to complain about here, just a great read.

Someone You Know had me gripped from the start, When Dee finds her Daughter dying at the bottom of the cellar stairs, she thinks it must of been an accident but when Natalie gasps she was pushed, Dee sets out to find who killed her daughter, but doing so could ruin her life forever,

Someone You Know is a slow burn, gripping thriller that throws twists and turns at you all the way through. I loved how this book leaves your head spinning, and I just can't stop thinking about the whole thing! I found myself guessing all the way through, too, as to who the killer was, which I absolutely loved. This is a must-read for any thriller lovers like myself - bear with the slow pace at the beginning, and honestly, you won't be disappointed!
Dee is Natalie's mum, she finds her gravely injured in the basement. Natalie whispers one word...pushed before dying. Natalie then finds out her daughter had secrets. Twists and turns , a slowish start but worth the wait as all the details add up to the final conclusion.
Dee finds her daughter in her basement, having fallen down the stairs, however her daughter confirms that she was pushed before she unfortunately passes away from her injuries. Dee is completely shocked and can’t believe someone would want to harm her daughter. She knows it must be someone she knows… but who?
What an absolute rollercoaster ride this one was! 😱 I was engrossed in this from the start, and fully invested. Every time I thought I had worked out what had happened… BAM, another little twist thrown in! I ended up not trusting anyone but being completely surprised by the ending. The pace starts off slowly but builds up and then explodes in to multiple twists which I absolutely loved. I hate when I guess what happens at the end and that was definitely not the case with this one! I would highly recommend together with the author’s back catalogue
Someone You Know is a phenomenal thriller from start to finish. Filled to the brim with twists and a captivating plot, this one is sure to keep readers hooked. The characters are well-developed. The story is incredibly fast-paced. This is one not to be missed! Highly recommended! Be sure to check out Someone You Know asap.
When worried mother Dee goes over to her daughter Natalie's place to find out why she isn't answering her phone, she cannot imagine what she will find. Near to death, Natalie is lying at the bottom of the basement stairs in her home. And Dee is just in time to hear her dying words. Or in this case, just one crucially important word: pushed.
And thus begins, Dee's crusade to find out who is responsible for her daughter's death. Because one thing seems clear to her - Natalie's killer is someone she knows.
But as Dee begins to put Natalie's friends and acquaintances under the microscope, it soon becomes apparent that nobody is above suspicion. And not only do the people in Natalie's life turn out to have unexpected secrets, Natalie herself has a few of her own.
This is a cleverly-plotted book that begins at a slow pace, but ends with a very satisfying resolution. The foreshadowing is subtle, and a fair number of false clues are thrown in for good measure, so that everyone ends up looking suspicious. All in all, well worth a read.
