In this third book in a six part Gaslamp Fantasy Ghost Mystery, the Duke de Archambeau seeks Ghost Talker Elinor Chalamet's help in finding his friend's missing daughter. During their investigation, they find more girls are missing under similar circumstances and there is more than a hint that the Morpheus Society may be a common link. Impeding the investigation are an overly emotional father (a Baron, naturally), a disaster of an apprentice, a drunken friend, an old rival, and Elinor's own feelings for and relationship with both Archambeau and the Morpheus Society.
This investigation will challenge Elinor's very foundation, and it may also bring her a step closer to solving her own father's murder; but the cost may be too high. It also will have a profound affect on Archambeau. The aftermath should be interesting.
Once again, this book took me outside my comfort zone, perhaps more so than the previous books, requiring a deeper suspension of reality. It is somewhat faster paced, as well. As with the first two books, these characters are intelligent, the dialogue witty, and I continue to enjoy the interactions and developing relationship between Elinor and Archambeau. I look forward to the 4th book in the series and highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys historical fantasy, but also to those of us who are more accustomed to cozy paranormal and/or historical mysteries.
The third entry in this series and it just gets better and better. I love the mix of cozy and paranormal and can’t put it down once I start.
Each one has been a quick short read and I bing read the first three in one day. I know, I should pace myself, but they’re like potato chips, you can’t just stop at one!
Madame Elinor Chalamet and her apprentice, Twyla, are waylaid by duke de Archambeau with Baron Losendahl of Zulskaya. The Baron's daughter is missing and he thinks that the Morpheus Society is behind it. As Elinor delves into the case she finds that seance parties are being secretly held where ghosts are brought back fully formed. As she pursues finding the daughter, Archambeau, is investigating a secret mission for the king.
A quick, enjoyable fantasy mystery series that find Elinor and the duke moving closer to each other and to finding the killer of her father.
Thank you NetGalley and Rook and Castle Press for this e-galley of "Spirit Guide".
Another great entry to this series! I've fallen in love with Elinor and the Duke. The introduction of a young apprentice makes Elinor's spirit jobs more exciting, sometimes at her own detriment. The spiritual stuff was interesting, and of course who doesn't love a good mystery!
This is the third in a fantasy mystery series set in a Victorian Europe type world where ghosts are real and there is a society that allows people to interact with their passed over ones. Madame Chalamet, along with her clumsy but precocious protegee, has been asked by the Duke to try to find a Baron's missing daughter. Chalamet soon discovers there are other missing girls and things point to the Morpheus Society, the very one that trained her.
It really does help to read this series in order (I have read the second in the series), for the characters, their relationships and some story arcs develop throughout the series. While you can understand what is going on without reading the other books you do miss out on some details about how things work and emotional connotations. Saying that, it is an interesting world with action, strong characters and while this one isn't as strong a mystery as the previous book, it is still a good read. I look forward to more in this world.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest opinion.
I jumped into this series with the book Spirit Guide, and I am thrilled I already have the previous two to read. This cozy fantasy-esque paranormal was a fun jaunt with a Sherlock Holmes type of heroine, who, although a pretty gifted medium, uses all her senses to solve the riddles. Add in an overly helpful apprentice who doesn't know when to be quiet, and the dashing duke who seems bent on frustrating Elinor Chalamet (how elegant a name), and the story moves at a nice pace with excitement and seeing the mystery solved, but not without opening new mysteries. In fact, this seems to be the type of serial one might read in the world where Elinor Chalamet resides.
REVIEW
A very big thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this wonderful ARC.
📖📖
This genre is one of my favorites and I loved these books. I read all three in one day!
📖📖
I loved the storyline, I've never seen ghosts or the supernatural described in this realistic way, this series has the best supernatural world building.
📖📖
I really liked Madame Chalamet too, she's such a wonderful woman and you can't just help but like her. I love the chemistry between her and the Duke, it's so cute!
📖📖
I also loved the mystery, Suspense and other characters. Although the books are short, they were still very good
📖📖
My only problem is that I'd have loved it if there was a year listed and a glossary because I was not familiar with some terms and the places
📖📖
All in all, the author did a wonderful job and I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next books in the series, I can't wait for their release! You should also read them now!
This is the third instalment of the six-novella Madame Elinor Chalamet ghost mysteries. Elinor hasn’t seen Tristan, Duke de Archambeau since the King’s winter revels some months ago when he surprised her by kissing her passionately. When he does eventually come to see her, he's back to behaving formally and it’s to ask for her help to find the missing daughter of a Baronet, who is worried that she’s seeking help to enter the spirit world to find her dead school friend.
Elinor now has an annoying teenage apprentice, Twyla, who never listens and is exceptionally clumsy, but Elinor accidently discovers she does have one remarkable skill that may prove useful in finding missing girl. With strange séances, a trip to the Beyond and a deadly ghost this episode is full of danger for Elinor at every turn and she must really on Tristan and her friends to help her. Elinor also learns a little more about her father’s death and leaves us on a bit of a cliffhanger.
This is a series best read from the beginning, especially as the characters develop more with each novella. Elinor is a strong and resilient woman who refuses to swoon at Tristan's feet and is clearly annoyed with his behaviour, so will their slow burning romance eventually come to the boil or will they keep sniping at each other? Let's hope we don't have to wait too long for the next instalment to check in on their relationship and find out more about who killed Elinor's father.
Spirit Guide is the third book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries by Byrd Nash, and is every bit as good as the first two.
My love of historical fantasy mysteries only grows with Madame Chalamet on the case. After a séance goes wrong due to her new apprentice, Madame is whisked away by the Duke de Archambeau to help find the missing daughter of a Baron from a neighboring country. Elinor must investigate her own spiritualist Morphius club, and perhaps along the way find more about her own father's murder.
Madame Chalamet and the Duke join forces, this time to investigate a missing persons case, and it's great seeing them work together. Dr. Charlotte is on hand to provide her unparalleled expertise, and since this book is back in Town, Anne-Marie is more of a presence. I was especially excited that Elinore's assistant was back after sitting out the last book. Plus we are introduced to Madame's new apprentice, Twyla, who has a lot to learn.
These novellas hit the spot: short, fast-paced, and ghostly without being too scary. I can't wait for number 4.
Thanks to NetGalley and Rook and Castle for proving access to an advanced e-book for review.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving this ARC, and this doesn’t influence my review. The book was slow at the start, but built up to a very adventurous fast-paced murder mystery.
Romance was beautiful as usual, perfect blend of it. Loved their bickering sm!!
I love her sarcasm (it truly peaking in this book) she had the perfect responses to each situation, and she’s an intelligent woman who knows how to act well regardless of which person she’s addressing.
The Duke really said cancel feminism 🫠🫠🫠🥵🥵 I was squealing you guys!!!
I hope in the next book the cast of characters is in the beginning to refresh our memory.
Spirit Guide the third in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries by Byrd Nash is another action-packed paranormal mystery. Once again, Tristan Fontaine, the Duke de Archambeau appears unexpectedly seeking the assistance of Elinor Chalamet in finding the missing daughter of an acquaintance. Adding a twist is Elinor’s new apprentice, Twyla Andrickkson, who makes an awful lot of mistakes and often rushes headlong into “helping”. Nonetheless, Twyla appears to have a strong talent that becomes apparent when she pulls a serial killer from the Beyond during a seance. As Elinor and Tristan investigate, it seems that someone is making young girls disappear and it has something to with the Morpheus Society.
This mystery is full of twist, turns and things that go bump in the night. I love how the characters are evolving and that we’re getting to know a bit more about Anne-Marie and Twyla. And more clues are being revealed about Elinor’s father’s murder. (I reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.) I can’t wait for the next in this intriguing series.
I just finished the third book, and I’m still loving the series. In this third book, we delve more into the Morpheus Society, and the people there. We get to see a little into Elinor’s past, and the people that were there. This mystery I kinda figured out for myself whereas I didn’t with the first two, but this was still a wonderful addition to the series. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store next for Elinor, Tristin, Twyla, Anne-Marie, and the rest of the characters. I’ll miss this series when it’s finished. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Excellent characters, fluid dialogue, and a special mystery with drama and emotions all contribute to a well-written plot. An intriguing book that captures your interest from beginning to end.
Thank you to Rook and Castle Press and NetGalley for the ARC. I am giving my review voluntarily.
Would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for letting me this brilliant book
An exciting read that grips you right to the end
With murder and mayhem abound and missing people a visit to the other realm is just whst is needed and boy is this an exciting read
Can’t wait till the next exciting book in this brilliant series
Another entertaining and gripping story in this series. Tightly knitted plot, solid mystery.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
“Spirit Guide” is the third installment in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries. In this episode, Elinor once again joins forces with the enigmatic Duke de Archambeau, this time to find the daughter of a Baron. Twyla, Madame Chalamet’s bumbling apprentice, begins to find her footing as a medium, and helps Elinor confront foes old and new. A visit to the Beyond may be the only way to solve the mystery, but will Elinor survive?
I am thoroughly enjoying this series and can’t wait for the next installment. Though there was definitely more of the paranormal in this episode, it was not overwhelming. We get another tantalizing clue about Elinor’s father’s murder. We also see strides in Elinor and Tristan’s relationship as they learn to communicate with each other in a personal, rather than purely professional, way. Twyla is turning out to be a delightful addition to the eccentric cast of characters.
“Spirit Guide” is great for those who like mysteries, paranormal mysteries, slow burn romances, and quick reads.
Thanks to NetGalley, Rook and Castle, and Byrd Nash for an advance reader’s copy in exchange for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
The third in this series is as charming as the others.
The same quirky characters appear. There is the addition of a clumsy, over eager apprentice to Elinor. She adds a little levity.
I would have liked more interaction between Elinor and the Duke.but otherwise thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC . This is my honest review.
4.2 Stars
One Liner: Entertaining; the series is gaining momentum
Tristan, the Duke de Archambeau, brings a nobleman to Elinor to help find his missing daughter. With the Morpheus Society involved, Elinor is determined to get to the root of the matter and save the girl. However, things are hardly easy for her with an uninvited ghost, a bumbling but smart apprentice, and mounting danger. Can Elinor save herself this time?
The story comes from Elinor’s POV.
My Thoughts:
This third book in the series has loads of laughs and serious moments. It also increases the danger levels and provides some information about the crucial subplot I’ve been curious about.
Twyla Andricksson is a great addition to the story. She is silly, funny, annoying, irritating, and a sweetheart. A typical teenager sans addiction to technology, of course. Her natural ability as a medium and other special talents bring trouble but also help Elinor when she needs them the most.
The love track between Tristan and Elinor has a little more progress (finally!). I wouldn’t mind if it picks up some extra pace in the next book, which might happen based on the sneak peek at the end. ;)
The mystery isn’t the strong point, though it is a part of the plot. Instead, the paranormal elements are the highlight of the book. Be it the Beyond world or how Elinor explores her talents and stretches them when necessary. The climax is real good. I wish it lasted a wee bit longer. I love it when nature’s elements help characters finish the job.
It isn’t really a spoiler, but there’s one chapter by Twyla. It made me laugh out loud despite the gravity of the situation. That girl needs a book of her own. A spin-off, maybe? *hint*
We also get to know more about the Morpheus Society, and I’m guessing this is just a start. That place is a den of secrets, many of which might be revealed in the coming books.
Like always, I enjoy the seamless commentary on society and hypocrisy as an integral part of the plot. It’s artfully done to advance the plot.
To summarize, Spirit Guide is a solid continuation of the series and a fast-paced novella with varied elements. Those who enjoy Amanda Quick’s historicals will like this series (though this one doesn’t have explicit romance). The book won’t be as entertaining as a standalone piece. Read the series in order if you pick it up.
Thank you, NetGalley, Rook and Castle Press, and IBPA Member Titles, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
This is the 3rd book of Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series, it can be read as stand alone. This series was soo good, just yesterday i think about the 3rd book and here we are!
Madame Elinor Chalamet Ghost Talker investigation continue, this time she have case missing daughter of Baron Losendahl who somehow linked to The Morpheus Society. Elinor have Mys Twyla Andricksson as apprentice, clumsy young women who had natural ability as medium, spirits are attracted and want to get her attention. Twyla abel to travel to the beyond without lraving her body in earth plane, this ability helping Elinor solve the case and save her life.
There is Tristan Fountain Duke de Archambeau, once again gone for months without news and appear to give Elinor case and confuse with their relationship. Omce again their do back-and-forth flirt, i-dont-want-married-again but give attention and care about Elinor. FINALLY THE KISS!!! oh my god talking about the real slow burn!! Sneak peak from the next book give me squel excitement about their relationship.
Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

This is the third book in this wonderful series. This time Elinor and the Duke try and solve a mystery that is hits a little to close to home.
