I did really enjoy Ziggy and Sebastian’s dynamic, especially how they challenged each other to grow and be better. It doesn’t quite live up to the last two Bergman books for me, but I have a hard time placing why.
Chloe has once again crafted a fantastic love story, and this one is the perfect balance of someone on a journey to find themselves and finding love simultaneously (Nearly spoiler free).
Where to begin? Ziggy and Sebastian's story is so incredibly tender and loving, and Chloe's writing makes you feel every single emotion of theirs right along with them - Ziggy's desire to be seen as a woman rather than the youngest Bergman, Sebastian's celiac diagnosis and following lifestyle changes to accommodate it. Those emotions are so powerfully written that even those who haven't sought what Ziggy is seeking or been through what Sebastian is experiencing still feel them like it is happening to them personally, and this is absolutely where Chloe shines in her writing.
The above doesn't even begin to touch on the romance within the book, which is truly one of the best I have ever read. From the beginning of this relationship of convenience, we know what is going to happen, but the journey there is so full of burgeoning love, deep trust, and pining that will drive even the biggest fans of the "when will they" trope crazy! LIGHT SPOILER, BE AWARE: I was so, so grateful that there was no second act break up or misunderstanding; the closer I got to the end the more fearful I became of how much it would wreck me and the relationship Ziggy and Sebastian were building, but thankfully it never came. When I say this book felt like the warmest, most loving hug, I truly mean it in all aspects.
Chloe will always have a lifetime fan in me of her books, but If Only You will be difficult to top; I can foresee myself returning to this multiple times in the future.. I can't wait to see what Ziggy and Sebastian are up to in the final Bergman Brothers book!
Another case of 'if I loved it less I might be able to talk about it more'. I was beyond ecstatic to receive an ARC of If Only You, the sixth book in the Bergman series, just as I was finishing rereading the first five books. And Ziggy, Sebastian and their relationship were perfection!
Ziggy has always been the baby of the Bergman family, but now, as a 22-year-old professional soccer player, she is desperate to break out of that role. Sebastian, Ren Bergman's team mate and a professional hockey player, feels stuck in his old ways and knows he has to turn his life around. What begins as a fake friendship turns into real honesty and understanding as Ziggy and Sebastian realize they have more in common than they thought - and the support they get from the other is just what they had been missing. But neither of them wants to jeopordize their beautiful friendship by wanting something more...
A perfect addition to a perfect series, thank you, Chloe Liese, once again! ❤
CHLOE LIESE!!
I am a big fan of reading series in order but when I read the synopsis for ‘If Only You’ I knew I needed to read it ASAP. This was my first go at a Bergman book (not at Chloe Liese) and it did not disappoint. I couldn't stop thinking about the five other books I now get to go back and read from this series!
This book includes:
- best friends little sister
- fake friends to real friends to lovers
- mutual pining
- "I want to be good enough to deserve you" "you are more than good enough"
- really great mental health, neurodivergent and celiac disease rep
I am 24 years old and this was my first experience reading a book where a main character had celiac disease. And as someone who got diagnosed at age 12, it was SO nice to read about. Sebastian's panic about not being able to eat his favourite foods and constant worry about inconveniencing anyone with his new dietary needs was so relatable. I would feel so comfortable dining with Ziggy and her family.
Chloe has officially been added to my list of comfort authors. I will be thinking about this book for a long time!
Thank you to netgalley and Chloe Liese for an e-arc of this book!
“‘Afterword,’ he mouths, poised to pop his mouth guard back in. ‘Wait for me?’
I nod, smiling. Doesn’t he already know?
I’d wait for as long as he asked.”
Did you like Maddox Paige from the Brentwood Boys? Well prepare yourself, Sebastian will 💯 be your new favorite misunderstood bad boy athlete tattoos and all that’s really a giant cinnamon roll inside, this time in hockey form.
It’s no surprise Chloe delivered another masterpiece of a book. My favorite thing about this series is how the pacing, writing, and tropes fit the personality of each Bergman to a T. Prepare yourself for an absolutely perfect slow burn!
The chemistry + banter + slow burn between Ziggy and Seb was perfect!
Loved watching their fake ‘friendship’ turn into relationship develop.
Like all her books the story had so many layers and nuances. Neurodiversity, autoimmune and chronic illness, mental health rep, complicated family dynamics. I also adore how the relationship ‘conflicts’ are handled. They always feel real, and not the usual 3rd act miscommunication that happens in many books. I can’t say this enough, I’m sad the Bergmans aren’t a real family I could stalk and try to befriend. I just hope that one day Apple TV + or some other streaming service buys the rights and makes them into a fantastic show!
Reasons to read:
more Frankie and lots of Ren 😍
Dual athlete story
The best book nerd date I think I’ve ever read
Linnea with the best nickname ever 🤣
More Shakespeare club
The A frame 🔥🔥🔥, iykyk
PS- perhaps the best bookstore scene ever written!
I actually can’t get enough of Chloe Liese’s books!!! If you know me, you know how much I absolutely adore the Bergmans. When I got the ARC for If Only You, I actually jumped up and down like a little girl who just got told she was going to Disney.
Ziggy Bergman has a problem: no one in her life takes her seriously. Her family still treats her like a child. Her teammates think she has no backbone. And Ziggy is SICK of it. So when she has a scandalous encounter with Sebastian Gauthier at her brother’s wedding, it sparks an idea in her head. You see, Seb is a *bad boy* who admittedly needs a little reputation rehab. Ziggy sees it as the perfect opportunity to make people believe she has matured, that she isn’t the same insecure little kid she used to be.
Sebastian knows that his dream career of professional hockey is in jeopardy of slipping through his fingers if he can’t get his act together. So when his best friend’s little sister wants to start a public friendship with him, Seb is in no place to decline. What happens next is something neither Seb nor Ziggy saw coming. They become inseparable, first as friends but then as something more.
I just loved every moment of this book! I didn’t know what to expect coming into Ziggy’s book considering I never felt like I related to her much from the limited page time she got in the previous books. As soon as I started If Only You? I knew I related more to her than I ever could have imagined. And Sebastian?? Yes please! I fell in love with him from the moment he took Ziggy to a bookstore and said he was paying. The relationship these two shared was so special, and it made me crave more and more. Of course, no Bergman book would be complete without meddling siblings! I loved the integration of the other Bergmans into this book, and of course I loved the sneak peeks of Viggo Bergman’s love issues setting up for the final book in the series!
Overall, this was the cutest little book, and I already can’t wait to buy it in physical form the moment it comes out and read it all over again! Long live Chloe Liese and long live the Bergman Brothers and Sisters!
We got Ziggy's story! I have been looking forward to this Bergman Brothers (sisters!) novel for so long. I think it's been on my Goodreads TBR longer than any other book.
I knew I would love Ziggy, but I had no clue what to expect from her match. And wowza, Sebastian is hot. He is the bad boy of the hockey world, deliberately setting out to create a poor reputation. But when it goes too far, he needs image repair. He and Ziggy agree to a fake friendship to dirty up/mature her image and improve his.
I love fake dating so much, so fake friendship was such a fun and unique play on that trope. And Sebastian is the perfect tattooed brother's best friend with such depth of character. As always, we get amazing neurodivergent representation from Chloe Liese.
I loved seeing the whole Bergman family together. Getting to see the progress for each of the previous couples always warms my heart and will forever keep me wanting more books in this series. It was a bit less steam than I expected, but that's because this was a hot and very slow burn.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.
I love Chloe Liese. Her Bergman Brothers Series is like cuddling in your favorite blanket with how comforting the stories are.
Chloe is actually insane for writing a book this good omg. Again and again, she continues to knock everything out of the park. I really don't know what else to say so I will update my review when I can think of words to describe how much I loved Ziggy and Seb and articulate them in a non-scattered way.
There wasn't a single part of this I didn't like. The representation, as one can expect from a Liese novel, is superb, and I particularly loved the conversations surrounding celiac's disease. The romance was so so good, but the personal journeys and growth of both the main characters is just as fulfilling. I personally found the tension between Ziggy and Seb to be the most out of the six books in the series so far, and there was no other choice than to laugh and cry alongside these characters and root for their happily ever after.
Side note: Viggo bb, your time has almost come :')
Ziggy the youngest of the Bergman bunch is tired of always being seen as a child, so she takes matters into her own hands and befriends her orders brothers best friend with an imagine problem, Sebastian. In this Bergman instalment we get to watch both theses characters grow together to be their best selves, with the aid of the usually Bergman meddling
Chloe Liese are you free on Thursday because I am free on Thursday and Thursday would be a good day for us to hang out because I am free on Thursday.
Sorry guys, I had to shoot my shot with one of my all-time favorite authors, and If Only You only secures that title more for me. I was so beyond excited for Ziggy's book, so I was honestly a little afraid to start because of how high my expectations were. But like always, Liese blew them all out of the water and wrote a book even better than I could have even imagined.
Truly brilliant in so many ways. Liese combines sexy and emotions in the perfect way. You're not only rooting for the characters to fall in love with each other, you are rooting for them to fall in love with themselves again. That's the magic of a Chloe Liese book. While romance is the main plot, it's not the only thing the book has going for it. Now I have to wait an ungodly amount of time to finally finish the series and get to read my favorite romance loving boy fall in love.
"we deserve the chance to be seen for who we are in our present, not for who we've been in our past"
If Only You is the sixth (!!) book in the Bergman Siblings series and like fine wine and a good cheese, the Bergmans get better with age. Ziggy is someone that from day one (okay book two) I knew that I would relate to on a whole other level. Ziggy is someone who's always faded into the background but now she's trying to redefine her role in her family. Sebastian is on a downward spiral unsure of how to change the public perspective of him. Together they help each other discover and embrace their authentic selves.
If Only You features:
- fake friends to real friends to lovers
-brother's best friend
-sports romance
-Bi FMC & Pan MMC
- bad boy & good girl
- autism & celiac disease rep
- a burn so slow the pages catch on fire
I devoured this book. If Only You is lyrical, whimsical, genuine, vulnerable, and hopeful. I loved watching Ziggy and Sebastian love themselves and each other. Their openness and willingness to get messy - to be themselves even when it was scary, was inspiring. Their journey to self-love paved the path for them to fall in love and you don't want to miss it.
With every new book of hers that I read, Chloe changes the perspective I have of myself in the best way. I read this after spending a day wishing that I was less emotional, less me, and it quickly changed into me remembering that I'm loved and special because of who I am, not in spite of it. Chloe did that by weaving Ziggy and Sebastian together. I saw bits of myself in both of them.
Thank you to Chloe for the gifted copy of this book, I am in awe of you and the words you write.
CW: abuse by a step-parent (past), family tensions, parental abandonment (past), self-medicating with alcohol
Chloe Liese has become one of my favorite authors in recent years and If Only You has become my favorite book in her Bergman Brothers series.
Ziggy and Sebastian's story was the best friends-to-lovers, brother’s best friend, slow burn, opposites attract, love story I have read in a long time. Ziggy proposes a mutually beneficial fake friendship to Seb, to help her lose her squeaky clean reputation and to help improve his wild one. However, it didn't take long for a genuine friendship to develop between Ziggy and Seb and it was so sweet and charming; I loved every page of it.
The attraction was there from the beginning, but Seb has convinced himself that he is not capable of giving Ziggy all the goodness she deserves; it takes love and patience for him to start believing in his ability to give love and be worthy of receiving love in return. Ziggy and her family help Sebastian heal and learn the true meaning of love and family.
I loved If Only You and hope to see more of Ziggy and Seb in the final Bergman Brothers book next year and hopefully an extended epilogue to satisfy my need for a Happily Ever After.
....sigh. Ziggy. I've been waiting for her story and she certainly did not disappoint! Chloe Liese has such a way with words and emotions - and her her books never fail to stir up all the feels. I love that Ziggy is confident in who she is and knows what works for her - we should all be so lucky! And Sebastian... don't even get me started. He is a GEM. A tattooed gem at that.
Chloe did an excellent job of maintaining the balance between the MCs. It would have been easy for their story to take a turn into what felt like a world weary Sebastian taking advantage of a naive Ziggy, but that was not the case at all! Ziggy may not have it all figured out, but she had HERSELF figured out and that was what mattered. I love that she knew her own mind and didn't hesitate to speak up. Well done! Another must read in the Bergman series!
Thank you to NetGalley and Chloe Liese for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I know that you go into romance expecting certain things--this is why tropes exist--but I was surprised by how much I love this book, and loved it for all the love that is in it. Love between siblings. Love between friends, teammates, parents and children. I felt like this book warmed me from the inside out.
And as always, I fell for Chloe's main characters, I learned so much from them, from the way that Ziggy navigated her autism, and from the way Seb dealt with his emotional issues, traumatic past, and celiac diagnosis. There's no way to read a Chloe Liese book and not learn a lot and feel a lot. Oh, and let's not forget laugh--there's so much laughing. Such fun hijinx and tickling. A terribly sweet and romantic gesture inside a bookstore late at night. Gluten free cookies. Definitely some sexy times in a cabin the woods. Soccer and hockey, Some Swedish thrown in. Seriously, this book has it all. I couldn't recommend it more.
Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC of this book.
Oh my heart. I honestly don’t know what else to say other than… I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
The fake friendship trope was such a fresh take on an old favourite, and I loved how it allowed Chloe the space to build SO MUCH TENSION between Ziggy and Sebastian. This is her slowest slow burn yet, but because Chloe’s writing is so engaging, it wasn’t frustrating at all. Sure, I was longing for a little spice, but I was so settled into the story and the characters that I had no desire to rush it.
I loved how the whole Bergman family showed up and loved on Seb. I loved that Ziggy learned to speak up. I loved that Seb really did the work so that he could begin to feel worthy of Ziggy’s love. I loved their hugs and Ziggy speaking up for Seb and Seb taking her on a bookstore date and yeah… I just really, really loved it.
Chloe Liese never disappoints! I loved to finally read Ziggy's story and to see her take control of her narrative.
This was swoony and an enjoyable addition to the Bergman family!
This may be my very favorite of the Bergman Brother novels. The pining! The character growth. I giggled incessantly and felt so damn seen. I also loved how Chloe hinted at some of her new retelling series with the (secret) Shakespeare references that were sprinkled throughout. What's more? No need to worry about that third act breakup because of just how slow this burn is. Ziggy and Seb are a delightful pairing, their parallel journey of finding boundaries and healing beyond worthwhile. Perfection - this book made me so damn happy.
4 Stars
Chloe Liese does it again! I was so excited for this book as I adore this series but also I have loved Ziggy in previous books and so was excited to see her love story. It didn't disappoint.
If Only You is a slow slow burn, which usually I am not a huge fan of but I really enjoyed this one. It has tropes of brother's best friend and fake friendship.
The lead female is Ziggy, the youngest of the Bergman siblings, a professional soccer player who has autism and struggles with being treated like the innocent girl she was instead of the strong woman she has become. The lead male is Sebastian, Ziggys brother Ren's best friend and ice hockey teammate. Sebastian is the bad boy who is an absolute train wreck and acts out his anger in bad and self sabotaging ways. He needs to clean up his act if he isn't going to lose sponsorship deals and his career. So after they bump into each other at a Bergman wedding, they decide that if they publicly are seen as friends then it will help each other become a bit more balanced. They begin their fake friendship but the fake doesn't last long.
I loved the representation of both autism for Ziggy and celiac disease for Seb. They were both well done and added depth and realism to the book. As someone with chronic and mental illness, I love to see rep for any and all illnesses.
I love the character arcs in this book. Ziggy becomes more forthright and stands up for herself which I love for her, and Seb works to be a much better man. The changes are slowish and realistic which I loved.
I also love the Bergman family and the family scenes did not disappoint! It was wonderful to see the progression of previous relationships in this series as well.
The romance is a very slow burn and grew from the sweetest friendship. They had so much chemistry and you could feel the tension between them. Sadly for me, when they finally came together it was like the chemistry disappeared and the smut just was a little boring and didn't do it for me. Hence not 5 stars. I also wish there had been more lgbtq+ rep as ziggy is Bi and Seb is Pansexual. I think that opportunity was missed which was a shame. My only other issue is that we didn't get any closure on Seb's main issue which was also a shame as it was a big part of him.
Chloe Liese writes such great realistic romances. I loved this one and it had me hooked from start to finish. Although not my favourite in the series, I couldn't put it down and thoroughly enjoyed it. I cannot wait for the final book...Viggo!
Overall, a fantastic addition to the series. I definitely recommend reading from the first book and making your way through this series as it'll add more to the enjoyment. Highly recommend!
Please note that I was gifted this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
This is still my favorite series, and one I recommend to pretty much anyone who will listen! I was so excited to finally read Ziggy's story. I thought the amount of time this book jumped forward from the previous one was perfect. Ziggy was so relatable as the baby of the family refusing to be considered an adult by her family. I felt that one!
Seb took a bit to grow no me. But, like Ziggy, I assumed if Ren liked him I would, too. In the end, these two really brought out the best in each other, which always makes for a beautiful pairing. The level of pining here was almost on par with Axel and Rooney. It was delicious. And I think this book had the best Easter Eggs of the other Bergman siblings of any of the previous books.
Anyways, if you need me, I will still be on my soapbox yelling about how much I adore Chloe Liese and everything she writes! I cannot wait to read Viggo's story!!!
