This latest volume in the series doesn’t disappoint. Sophie and Hector travel up to Inverness to visit her parents, but the trip is not without mishaps. Are they linked or just random accidents? This book has lovely characters (I could happily be friends with Sophie and Hector), a well paced plot and beautiful descriptions of the Highland: a perfect combination.
I received this advance reader copy via Netgalley and the publisher, in return for an honest review. The latest book in a cozy series, the two protagonists, Sophie and Hector, are headed to the Scottish Highlands to visit Sophie’s parents. Along the way, a series of strange events occur and there’s a remote possibility that they’re related to a Gaelic book that Hector found as a gift for Sophie’s mother, who is dealing with a long-standing trauma related to water.
I’ve not read any preceding books in this series and know many really like Sophie and Hector. I found their relationship really juvenile and not particularly impressive. For example, Sophie takes Hector to a swimming pavilion with slides and wave machines. But Hector doesn’t tell Sophie that he can’t swim. Why not? And Sophie, sort of, makes fun of him before she finds out. Also, Sophie is resentful that she is ‘just an employee’ in Hector’s bookshop but she doesn’t tell him that even though they’re in a long-term relationship. Just didn’t like their interactions very much. The plotline was good and the cozy is also good.
This was so good! It was like I was right there with them the whole way. This was just the best all around book. I can't wait tobsee what they get into next.

Couldn't put it down! Murder, suspense and romance... Everything I love in an amazing read. Kept me on the edge of my seat.
I like these books a lot. They are twee and comforting. Cosy murders are a particular love of mine. Really recommend this author.
I liked Sophie and hector and this particular highland read was lovely with all of its tartan and Loch Ness monster. I definitely need to read the back story books too.
Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
An absolutely delightful read with just the right amount of crime, friendship, family and love, it didn't take me long to read it which goes to show how good it was

Murder in the highlands is about Sophie and Hector, they head to the highlands to meet the parents. They both are looking forward to the trip and avoid the mysterious murders that have been plaguing their small town of Cotswolds Village. On their way to the highlands they encounter something that leaves them shaken and they both work together to figure out the mystery.
Overall, I didn't really enjoy this book. I have high expectations for Mystery/Thrillers and this one felt very light- which I think will appeal to many. There were some humorous moments and the characters were good.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are that of my own.
Looking for a great cozy with a lovable fun protagonist? This is the one for you! I love this series and have enjoyed each and every entry so far! Settle into a cozy place, have a favorite beverage nearby and enjoy this read! You’ll find it’s an easy read and fall in love with the characters as the mystery unfolds and is solved.
This was a book I could easily read in one sitting. A mystery but also gull of great characters and surrounding scenery.
Murder in the Highlands is the latest book in the Sophie Sayers cosy crime series, usually set in a small Cotswold village, but not on this occasion. Sophie and Hector (who isn't Scottish) are off to Inverness for a well-deserved holiday with her mother and father.
But as ever, dark going-ons and strange occurrences follow them on the long journey north, and Sophie is left feeling that there's a mystery to solve, but unsure what it can be about, and even worse, that it somehow involves Hector.
I really enjoy this series of books - Sophie is a fun character, if troubled with an overactive imagination - as a writer, and her character is a writer, I'm right there with her. Hector is usually the more grounded of the two, but this time, even he's starting to worry about what's happening.
While there is no sighting of the Loch Ness monster, this is a fun mystery firmly rooted in Inverness, which the author has visited extensively, and the mystery is one of the stronger ones in the series that plays out, perhaps, in a more conventional way to earlier books in the series.
A great addition to the cosy crime series, which is going from strength to strength..
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this eARC.
It was a good, quick mystery. It was definitely entertaining but nothing unique. I would recommend if you're getting into mysteries.
