Holy buckets. What a messy plot full of dramatic characters! A who-dun-it with assassins, rockstars, tech moguls, et cetera. Messy. The origin story of all their trouble is what caught my attention. This book covers tough topics such a child abuse and human trafficking. It did keep me guessing and I thought I knew who was to blame. I was wrong. I would recommend this to anyone who likes tons of action and multiple POV.

If you are looking for a bingeable thriller then look no farther. I seriously read this one in a day as I didn’t want to put it down.
Told from three ‘targets’ perspectives we meet Jenna, Donnie and Nico. All are being hunted for something they believe happened in their past - but by who? And why now?
Get your popcorn ready as this is a fast paced read and while I had some idea of the who behind it all, there were still a lot of twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting and really enjoyed!
After reading The Night Shift and now What Have We Done, Finlay has become a definite auto-buy author for me.
Thank you to the publisher and author for the ARC. It has not swayed my review.
This was my first Alex Finlay book, so I wasn't 100% sure what to expected. While I enjoyed the book, I did think it was a little too plot driven. I usually don't have any problem with plot driven books; however, I do think in this case the fact that the book was so heavily plot driven did do a disservice to the characters. Overall, I think the book was interesting while also being completely far fetched. I wish the author had focused a bit more on the character development, that way by the end I would have cared more about the characters, instead of just trying to keep up with the crazy plot.

Featuring ~ multiple 3rd person POV, 3 part story, flashbacks, child abuse, torture, trafficking
Jenna (assassin), Donnie (rock-star) & Nico (TV producer) were in the foster care system and living in the same group home when they were teenagers. They all share a secret that you get a glimpse of in the prologue. Flash forward 25 years and someone is out to kill them.
The Twins have a few chapters that kept the story moving along.
I like the fact that Jenna was an assassin, which had some bad@ss moments, but she did some Spiderman stuff and I was like really with this.
Donnie was okay, but a bit of an alcoholic.
I was not a fan of Nico at all.
The twins were just bat poo cray cray.
I am a big fan of multiple POV, but in the case of this particular book it made it slow moving for me. There were flashbacks, but I don't think they were done seamlessly ~ I prefer a heads up that one is coming. Yes, it was still action packed, but no, I was not on the edge of my seat. Will I still read Alex's next book, yup probably so.
I was lucky enough to receive a kindle copy and an audio copy to review. Either were perfectly fine.
Narration:
Brittany Pressley, James Patrick Cronin, Jon Lindstrom, Maggie Thompson ~ 8 hours 47 minutes ~ all did a lovely job
I do love multi narrator books and it worked perfectly here. However the ending for me didn't hit like his past books. I was hoping for so much more. I still enjoyed the book but sadly not as much as I thought I would.
Everybody has a past, which is clearly evident for old foster siblings Jenna, Nico and Donnie. Especially when somebody is trying to murder the three of them. It becomes apparent early on that this has something to do with an act that the three of them with their best friend Benny took part in 25 years ago, but who is behind the attempts on their lives?
First things first, absolutely loved the use of the different narrators for the different characters. It made it much easier to distinguish between them, and it make it very enjoyable to listen to!
This book is an absolute thriller. One of those stay up at night way past your bedtime types of books because you just want to figure out the next twist and turn. This was my first Finlay book, and will certainly not be my last. I enjoyed the character development of these obviously very deeply troubled individuals. I felt the author did a great job piecing the story together through flashbacks and the three main different points of view. I think that is what made this book most successful, because the reader figures the plot points out a bit at a time, which made me hooked on the story! I loved listening to this one, and highly recommend it for all readers who enjoy action packed pages and shocking endings.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this fantastic book. All opinions within this review are my own.
I was able to get an ARC audio of, “What Have We Done,” through NetGally. I was so happy when I discovered that each character had a different voice actor! Since this book had very short chapters with more than one point of view, I found that the different voices helped me follow along better. The chapters also move from the past to the future. The characters were relatable and yet, all very different from eachother. I give this read three stars and recommend it to other!
Anyone who has ever wondered if the past will come back to haunt them will love What Have We Done as much as I did. The multiple narrator format works perfectly. Each character has a unique voice, and how they all tie together and their backstories kept me binging the audio version. The fact that it's partially narrated by one of my favs, Brittany Pressley, is a plus, but the entire cast is fantastic! What Have We Done has a little more action than past Alex Finlay books, and I already can't wait to see what's in store for his next book!
Thanks for the opportunity to review early!
Thank you to NetGalley, Alex Finlay, and publisher for the ARC.
I have read all of Alex Finlay's books and have loved them, I struggled to get into this story though. I received the audiobook and had multiple playback issues, also I think with this many characters I would have probably gotten more into the story if I were reading it instead of audiobook. I would recommend reading this book, the storyline is very interesting. 3.5/5 stars
Thank you for granting this audiobook arc.
I found this book a good read. I did feel that the story was a bit slow in its reveal of certain plot points. There were two characters that felt a bit like mustache-twirling villains that I could do without. All in all, it was a good thriller just wished the back story was more fleshed out.
I really enjoyed this audio and could not stop listening. It was a great book and I did not see the twist coming!
Boy oh boy did this book CREEP ME OUT. We follow a variety of characters after they all have a hit out on them. A suburban house wife, a Rockstar, a tv producer, and a politician all have a hit out on them, but they aren't successful. Why is this hit woman going after them? What do they all have in common? We have a non-linear time line, with a few unreliable narrators, and a few weird and creepy weapons. In trying to solve who is coming after them, and why, we look at their dark past and see what they had done.
I loved The Night Shift, and so I was excited to read this sophomore novel. I don't have the same feelings for this novel, but it was interesting and I would recommend it to others! It kept me guessing until the end. But it should have some trigger warnings attached to it. (sexual assault)
I'd probably give this audiobook a 3.5 star rating. I enjoyed the different voices for the different POVs and it made going between the narrators a little bit easier to follow. Parts were hard to decipher who's backstory was whose.
This book generally creeped me out and I am glad that I didn't listen to it out loud at work or around others.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
This book was such a good one to listen to. An awesome thriller that had me intrigued from the very beginning.
I was so excited to read this book as I loved The Night Shift last year. However, I was not a fan of this book. There were a lot of POVs and a lot of different stories, timelines and back stories. None of the characters ever fully developed because there were way too many of them. I did enjoy the twins story. They were insane. It was hard to get completely through this. I did enjoy the narrators and think they did a great job. I love Karissa Vacker!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for access to this ALC.
Ohh this was interesting! I liked the ensemble cast and storyline. This was creepy and kept me intrigued. I will be reading more from this author!
"Twenty five years ago, Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were the best of friends, having forged a bond through the abuse and neglect they endured as residents of Savior House, a group home for parentless teens. When the home was shut down—after the disappearance of several kids—the three were split up.
Though the trauma of their childhood has never left them, each went on to live accomplished—if troubled—lives. They haven’t seen one another since they were teens but now are reunited for a single haunting reason: someone is trying to kill them.
To survive, the group will have to revisit the nightmares of their childhoods and confront their shared past—a past that holds the secret to why someone wants them dead.
It’s a reunion none of them asked for . . . or wanted. But it may be the only way to save all their lives."
My Thoughts:
This story is told in my favorite format, multiple POV's with past and present timelines. I thought that Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were so well fleshed out and relatable as they tried to protect their present lives from the past. I devoured this book, it pulled me in from the very beginning and took me on an edge-of-my-seat ride full of twists and turns. This is the first book that I have read from @alexfinlayauthor and I can't wait to dig into his backlist!
If you are looking for a fun book that will grab your attention with lots of twists and turns and not let go - this is the one for you!

Thank you to @netgalley, @stmartinspress, @minotaur_books, and @macmillan.audio for the gifted copy of this book.
I wanted to write my honest review as soon as I was finished with the auto book by Alex Finlay "What Have We Done." This was my first Alex Finlay book I read and I was not disappointed by it. Now I'm back tracking Alex to see what so far was his best book. First let me say the narrators were excellent. They made my 70 minute commute effortless. The story line is about teenagers who are brought together by whatever tragic life event in their lives to a group home for teens with no parents. There they form their teenage family bond with each other and are whipped back together many years later in their adult life with extraordinary events . The story was a roller coaster ride with very exciting plunges and hair whipping turns. And just when you think the story is over the epilogue sends you on another steep plunge, woo hoo! thanks Alex. If you are an Alex Finlay fan or not the book was definitely a winner well worth getting back on line to ride it again...
This book was a wild ride!
The story alternates between 3 people with traumatic childhoods. Each character is more than what they seem to be on the surface. Which makes for some interesting development and reveals. They met in a group home for teens without parents (and we can guess that it was a shite way to grow up).
25 years later, they are successful and thriving adults...but their past isn't ready to leave them alone.
It was a fun and easy read! I thought all in all, the storyline was pretty good. I think that the character development was lacking. Which often happens with so many PoVs. 3 people plus a sprinkle of killer PoV. I think in thrillers so many PoVs don't always work. It didn't make this book bad, but also didn't make it great. But I would recommend this one to someone looking for a quick, easy, fun thriller read!

What Have We Done by Alex Finlay
Pub date:3/7/2023
Alex Finlay is quickly becoming one of my favorite thriller writers.
This book is based on 3 teenager who all lives in a group home together. Jenna, Donnie and Nico. After girls start disappearing from the home, they shut it down. They went on with their lives.
25 years later something is happening to their group. They are being hunted. They need to figure out who’s calling the shots so they can protect their families.
This book has multiplied POV which kept me interested. If you don’t like POV try the audio. They had a different narrator for each character. The story is fast paced with short chapters. I can’t wait for his next book.
Four friends were brought together by their tragic lives to be foster children at Savior House. Fast forward to 25 years later they have all gone their separate ways and have led incredibly different lifestyles. From rockstar Donnie, to actor Nico, stay at home mom Jenna and judge Ben, these four friends are brought together again to figure out who is trying to kill them and why. In their search for the killer, they have to each travel the back down their dark pasts.
From the very first chapter to the last line, I was hooked! I could not stop reading this book, it took over my day! Yes, day! I finished it promptly because I HAD to know how it was going to end. WOW! Alex Finlay is not messing around in his recent thriller. It's fast paced and every turn seems to have a new twist. This will be the talk of all things thriller for 2023! If you are looking for a book that is going to take you down a maze of suspense, run don't walk for What Have We Done.
