Unpopular opinion! I didn’t like it at all. I struggled really hard through this one. I’ve heard so many good things about Alex Finlay. Maybe I’ll try another of his books but this one was a total bust for me. I was bored from the very beginning. I’ve seen a lot of people enjoy it so I guess it just was a not for me book.
What Have We Done by Alex Finlay is a wild ride of a thriller. I really enjoyed it! I liked the multiple perspectives, fast pace and how the stories were interconnected. It’s about three people who share a dark secret from their past and now someone is trying to kill them. I listened to the audiobook and I loved the full cast! I finished this book in two days! The four narrators Brittany Pressley, James Patrick Cronin, Jon Lindstrom, and Maggie Thompson were all great. This one is like an action movie. I really enjoyed this author’s previous book The Night Shift too so I’m looking forward to his next book now!
Quite in interesting story. This took a direction I didn’t see coming. It could happen, right? The description of the book does not do it justice. There is so much more going on than just the little bit of info you see before reading.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* This was a pretty wild read for sure! Really enjoyed it and the story, would recommend and possibly reread in the distant future.
Riveting action packed story with a great plot that kept me invested in the story. I enjoyed the mystery and how it all wrapped up in the end the narrator was great
I have a lot of mixed feelings about this one. Although I found this to be a refreshing, unique storyline, I almost felt like TOO much was going on because I found myself constantly questioning what exactly was going on. I think the vast cast of characters had a lot to do with it. I had a hard time keeping everyone straight and how they were all interrelated, especially with multiple POVs. This isn't normally an issue for me but I felt none of the minor characters were developed enough to have distinct voices. This was exciting and dramatic, but I really didn't connect with the story. I found the final twists to be interesting but not as shocking as I think the author was going for. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the premise of this book - something these kids all did in their youth is coming back to haunt them as adults - I’m all in from there.
This was a fast read, and it kept me turning the pages (figuratively, as I listened on audio). I found there was one or two more narrators than I would have liked, but some I really loved.
Overall, it was a good read!
Some kids from a group home form an unbreakable bond after they make an irreversible choice. They are brought together again years later as adults after they all become targets from murder.
I have read Finlay’s other two books and this was my least fave. I just didn’t really buy into it as the story felt scattered from the start, with so many POVs and loose threads floating around. There was just too much going on. The chapters were nice and short which I always appreciate. The twin assassins were also cool characters, but overall, meh.
Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC.

What Have We Done is another addicting thriller from Alex Finlay. It tells the story of how one secret has haunted the lives of three people for 25 years and what happens when it causes them to be hunted.
I found this to be a very engaging story that was elevated by excellent narration. The third act goes off the rails a bit, but I had fun and was entertained. The multi-narrator production is truly top-notch. Highly recommend listening on audio.

This is my first Alex Finlay book and overall I really enjoyed it! It's fast paced and action parked. Sometimes a bit over the top but give me a good mystery where I can say “I didn’t see that coming” and I’m sold. It’s told through 3 POVs Jenny, Donnie and Nico three of the 5 kids from a group home where something terrible happened 25 years ago. Secrets from their past come back to haunt them when someone tries to kill them. I took me a little bit at first since there were several characters I had to figure out. The flashbacks seemed to mix in with the present so much that I didn’t realize right off that they were flash backs and it got a little confusing, however, I was listening to the audiobook so it might be more clear in the physical book. I will absolutely be checking out more of Finlay’s books. You do have to suspend disbelief to really get into and thoroughly enjoy this one but if you can it’s a quick, fun read definitely worth picking up.

One of the best books I've read in a long while.
This book was outstanding. I couldn't put it down. The narrator was excellent and did a good job changing her voice so you knew who was talking. I highly recommend this book.

Fast paced mystery. As we try to uncover who is killing previous residents of a group home for children. One disappeared and was trained as a spy, one a judge, one became a rock star who drowns his past in a bottle, and a computer genius are the ones that really stand out. Now they are being hunted by a pair of psychotic twins who revel in death. None of them understand why they are targets.
The revelation of who set this all in motion and why is fascinating, and something I didn't expect. As we try to unravel what happened to the kids and what they are hiding the twins give this book a creep factor as they are completely insane. I was really rooting for the aging rock star as he presented as one of the most compelling characters.
Really entertaining mystery thrill ride.
What Have We Done is a twisty suspense. It took me a bit to get the rhythm but when it takes off it really takes off. It’s wasn’t until I was well into reading it that I realized the depth of the backstories and how deeply the pieces are beautfully entwined. I enjoyed the characters - the friendships, the connections; the writing style was effortless when it should be and heavier when it needed to be. The title is perfection. Overall, a great thriller.
The narration was excellent. I especially liked the multiple narrators. They fit well with the story.
There were a lot of different POVs in this book and I was a little confused at the beginning of this book. Once I figured out who was who though, the book moved along at a great pace and kept me entertained throughout.
This book felt like a bit of a mess and I wasn't sure what was going on in a confused way most of the time. The idea was intriguing, but somewhere along the way it seemed to lose focus. I listened to the audiobook and while well done I lost track of the characters at times. This is one that I wish I had the book to follow along.
A stay-at-home mom with a past.
A has-been rock star with a habit.
A reality TV producer with a debt.
Three disparate lives.
One deadly secret.
Usually multiple POV’s and dual timelines are my jam. Something about What Gave We Done just didn’t feel cohesive and of course I was scrambling to keep things straight. I’m pretty much in line with how Sarah @_coffeereadrepeat felt… “I really liked the premise of this one but the execution was a bit messy”
This was a phenomenal thriller. The narration was great and I will definitely be looking for more by this author!
Good mystery that tells the story of those that once lived in Savior house and went on to live their lives, hiding a secret they share. The mystery, told through past and present, was interesting and had some good twists. Characters could be a bit one-note, but the story was fun enough. Thank you to MacMillan audio in NetGalley for the ARC.
Overall, I liked this book. However there were times when it got a bit confusing, especially in the beginning, with so many characters narrating.
