What Have We Done is a fun, fast-paced thriller! It's told from several different multiple points-of-view, and that worked really well with the story. My favorite character was Jenna - an ex-assassin, pulled back into this world to protect her family.

The audiobook was fantastic - having different narrators for the different voices made it feel more like I was watching a movie than listening to a book. It was really well done.

If you're looking for a fast moving, action-packed thriller, look no further. Along with the action, this book is full of plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing to the end!

2.5 rounded up.

I had great expectations after reading The Night Shift. Like, SUPER great expectations. Unfortunately, I didn’t expect that they wouldn’t be even be great.
I wanted badly to love it. So much so that I made myself keep reading, something that I decided a few years ago I was going to stop doing because I had too many other books I wanted to read to spend my time reading books that didn’t deserve it. But, you know… The Night Shift.
I did love Jenna. A lot. Would’ve loved seeing her as the only character. The guys were meh. When the twins came in I was just over it.
I think this just suffered from over the top syndrome. There was way too much being crammed into one book.
I did like the full cast of characters on the audio. They did a great job. Each one brought zing to their character (even if the character didn’t zing.)

Thanks to Netgalley, St Martin’s Press, and Macmillan Audio for the early release copies.

This story follows the lives of 5 teenagers as they navigate adult life. What does a stay at home mom with a dicey past, a worn out rockstar with horrible coping mechanisms, a deadbeat tv producer with a gambling habit, a high profile judge, and the world's richest man have in common? Twenty five years ago they created an unbreakable bond between all five of them. Now that bond is coming back to haunt them all. This story does beg the reader to ask themselves, how far will they go to save themselves?

Alex Finlay has a way with interweaving two different stories into one. The genre for this story is obviously a thriller but it also has the aspects of a coming of age story. I enjoy his character development and the way that he connects them all. He did a great job on presenting the way human nature may differ in different characters. People are uniquely different and that is what makes life interesting. It is important for authors to find a way to differentiate their characters from one another while still keeping their bond front a center. This audiobook has multiple narrators which helps with the multiple POV's in the story. The cadence of the narrators leans to the uneasiness the reader feels as they navigate the story.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books and NetGalley for this ARC.

A little over the top, but sometimes that's just what we need. Five kids who met at a group home called Savior House 25 years ago, grew up and became successful in their own fields, a lawyer, a rockstar, TV producer, tech mogul, assassin turn stay at home mom , I mentioned it was a little over the top right.

Anyway, attempts are being made to murder them and they each realize it may have something to do with someone they murdered when they were kids at the group home. They reluctantly return to Savior House and the town to figure out what is happening, while a pair of crazy twins are hunting them.

Certainly entertaining, fast paced and action packed, I really enjoyed this after a couple of duds that I'd recently read. Surprisingly there was a lot more emotion and heart in this than I expected and I was rooting for these flawed characters to claw themselves out of the mess.

HOLY COW!!! This book was amazing! The twists and turns - AND I didn't see the end coming at all - so that means it was an excellent edge of my seat listen!! Great buildup - and I appreciated the back and forth chapters & different perspectives to fill in all the blanks - Absolutely loved Jenna and Donnie - the others were pretty sketch. Sad that we didn't get more time with Ben :( REALLY hoped that one particular character would make an appearance by the end of the end of the book ;) I now have a new to me author to stalk and devour (that sounds pretty messy - but considering the content lol......). thanks to Netgalley, Alex Finlay and Macmillon Audio for adigital advanced readers (listeners ;) copy for honest review.. The narrators - Brittany Pressley, James Patrick Cronin, Jon Lindstrom, Maggie Thompson did an amazing job!!!

I think I had too high of hopes for this one. I was in such a thriller mood and I just wish I could say I enjoyed it more.

Thoughts:
-It was kind of an out-there concept, but the storyline pulled me in enough
-The child assassin storyline felt like a wild Marvel movie concept that I was not expecting and didn’t necessarily love
-I didn’t like any of the characters particularly they all felt like exaggerated characters, not actual people
-It was interesting enough to keep me entertained
-There was too much backstory on most characters that just wasn’t relevant

I’m going to keep this review short because honestly, it was kind of forgettable to me. But you may feel different!

Thank you Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, and Alex Finlay for this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first Alex Finlay book, but it will not be my last! What Have We Done is a suspense/thriller with many twists and turns. The narrative is shared from the perspectives of Jenna, Donnie and Nico who all knew each other as children and have since grown up and gone their seperate ways. It was full of action and suspense, but somewhere along the way, something fell flat for me. I wish I could have liked this one more than I did but, that being said, I will be looking for more from Alex Finlay and will be picking up some of his previous books ASAP.

Thank you to NetGalley, the Publisher and Author for providing me with an ARC audio of this book for my honest review.

Similar to 'The Night Shift' I felt like this story had a good premise. I had high hopes based on the synopsis but unfortunately it didn't keep my interest.

This book has multiple POVs and lots of action packed scenes. I felt like it would have made a better action movie than it did a thriller book. I found it hard to get to know the characters and follow their development when there was so much going on.

Overall it was a quick read but I just could not get into it.

Finlay really knows how to write an opening to a novel. They always hook me right from the start. I wish I could say I loved the rest of the book as much as the first chapter.

I really liked the main female character. She is a badass former assassin who is being targeted now and is trying to keep her family safe. I kind of wish she was the only character we truly focused on throughout the novel and she pieced together what happened in the past when they were teenagers to the readers.

The thing that bothered me the most is that out of the five MC’s…the four men were a judge, a rockstar, a billionaire, and worked in TV. Then we have one female who is now a SAHM. There’s nothing wrong with that, I was a SAHM for a long time, and I get that she is now trying to stay under the radar because of her past…HOWEVER…all of these men seriously grew up to become that successful in life? ALL OF THEM? It’s not believable in the least bit.

My friend @nikkihrose pointed our some other problematic things with the novel that I didn’t even think of. I’d probably give this one a three star rating because of the things she said and what bothered me.

Thank you to @minotaur_books for the arc and personalized necklace!

Thank you Netgalley for the audiobook What Have We Done by Alex Finlay. I enjoyed this audiobook as well as most of the narrators. It was a good story. I would recomend to others.

This was my first Alex Finlay book and I was immediately drawn in. I listened to the audiobook and I really enjoyed the narrators. The multiple POV works really well with multiple narrators as they literally give a unique voice to each character.

There were some twists that I didn't see coming, but overall it fell a little flat for me. The ending was a big let-down, especially after an entire plot of building up to the big reveal.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the audiobook. This review is honest and voluntary.

I'm still trying to process this one. Although I devoured this book in two days, I'm not sure it was a favorite for me. There were multiple POVs telling the story, and so many characters. This seemed more like a movie plot with a contract killer angle than a thriller to me.

Someone is out to get a group of kids from an orphanage - all of them grew up to have some kind of a highly trained or prestigious career. Most of this book just seemed so far fetched to me that I got bored and started to lose interest in the characters.

The twists had me guessing. I kind of thought I had it figured out, but I didn't, which is a relief because it had me guessing. I am also a fan with the way the epilogue ended.

🕵🏻BOOK REVIEW🕵🏻

What Have We Done - Alex Finlay
Rating: 4/5 ⭐️

“In one of the year's most anticipated thrillers #1 New York Times bestseller Sarah Pekkanen calls ‘Alex Finlay's best yet,’ What Have We Done is a tale about the lives we leave behind and the secrets we carry with us forever.”

This was my first Alex Finley novel and I really enjoyed it! I loved the weaving together of the past traumas and current situations. It did get a bit of a slow start - just because there is background needed - but I felt it picked up quickly. Each of the characters were flawed but likable

What I thought was going to be a twisty thriller about girls going missing from a group home, turned out to have so much more below the surface! I started out switching between the audio and physical books but enjoyed the audio and narration so much that I only did the audio after the first few chapters.

It was narrated by Brittany Pressley; James Patrick Cronin; Jon Lindstrom; Maggie Thompson - they all did an exceptional job and brought a lot to both the story and the personality of the characters.

Recommend if you like:
- Dual POV (especially with a multi-cast audiobook narration)
- Twisty thrillers
- Suspended belief
- Female assassins
- Thrillers that could be action movies

Thanks to @netgalley, @macmillan.audio, @stmartinspress and the author for copies of this ARC.

I’m a big fan of Alex Finlay, and was so excited to read this. It ended up being different than prior novels, but I still really enjoyed it. I loved the different POVs and the characters were fairly likable. Some parts were a little far fetched, but I didn’t see the ending coming at all. The narration was pretty decent, and made listening enjoyable.

Several orphans, from varying backgrounds have a secret they've been keeping. All are grown and in their respective careers when suddenly they are being hunted down.

Rotating between individuals, this multicast audiobook was one wild ride. From cruise ships to mine shafts, rooftops and computer screens, the unique cast can't seemingly be connected, except by themselves. Finlay creates a twisted tale as a hunt ensues for killer and victim.

While I would have like more background and clarity on several characters, this read kept me rooted to my seat and wanting more. Holding my breath at times, rooting for escape in others, this read is entirely engrossing if not enraging.

This is an excellent twisty thriller that kept me guessing right along with our 3 main characters Jenna, Donnie & Nico, there is a 3rd (4th) character that also gets their own narrator but there isn't as much from their point of view.(and Spoilers)

What first seems like a coincidence of three old friends having really bad days until they start comparing notes and realize someone is after them and all goes back to what happened when they were kids in a foster/group home. Can they figure out what is happening before any of them actually die?

I liked the flawed characters and the ending.

The narration by Brittany Pressley; James Patrick Cronin; Jon Lindstrom & Maggie Thompson was top notch every character was well done!

Highly recommend the audiobook!

The audiobook was great. I love a cast when there are multiple characters and this didn't disappoint (well maybe a tiny bit, I felt like Nico and Donnie's actors/voices were a little too similar and was confusing at times trying to figure out who was who. Overall, I would still recommend the audiobook. I did both physical book and audio together and it was perfect.

Nico, Donnie, Ben, Art, and Jenna, all orphaned through various means, wind up at the Savior House, together with the owner's son, who repeatedly terrorizes them. The story begins as the female orphans at the house begin disappearing. On the brink of expecting Jenna to fall to the same fate, the owner instead disappears.

Our orphans move on and grow up in various locales and think nothing more of their early days until they find they’re all being targeted by a killer.

Now, you’ll have to just take with a grain of salt all that went down at the group home, that one of the children from this place of horrors was chosen by a covert government entity based on aptitude to become a mercenary, that nobody ever bothered to look into really any of the people who went missing, etc etc. If you can do that, this is a well paced story that though you can somewhat predict was still… whatever an audiobook page turner is called ;)

The epilogue was not good for me, and only served to remind me of some of the mind boggling leaps taken early on.
The narration was very good.

The beginning of the audio is a bit confusing with the pace of multiple POV as well as the timeline changes.

They’re a lot of different charavters to keep track of which for an audiobook can be difficult and I felt that way.

However the story and plot I thought was really interesting. I really liked the character Jenna and her storyline. I think I would have liked hearing more from this character.

Overall I would say to pick up the physical book before the audio.

Wow! This is audiobook narration at its best!
I am new to Alex Finlay, but after my experience listening to the audiobook of What Have We Done, I can't wait to dive into another story from this author.
This story hooks you immediately and is a fast moving train all the way to its conclusion!
I was so enthralled by the multicast narration of the audiobook, the multiple character perspectives, the multiple timelines that I didn't want to stop listening to this mystery/thriller.
The ending was twist after twist, which leads to an incredibly satisfying conclusion for the characters.
This author was able to seamlessly weave in pieces of each character's past trauma to allow for understanding of their current state of being and their desire/intent to figure out the reasoning behind their current predicament. As I was making my way through this audiobook, I was so invested in each character and their ability to make it to the end of this story in one piece!
I highly recommend this story, and specifically the audiobook given the incredible narration from each member of the cast.
