Charming regency romance with poodles! And poodle-napping.
I really enjoyed the characters in this one, although I felt there was almost too much page time taken up by a pair of secondary characters. And in a really unusual twist, the side characters got their happy ending first.
Recommended for a quick, sweet read.
This was fun and entertaining and cute but it wasn't anything super unique. The writing was fine, the characters were fine, and I I liked how quick it was. But it was still just fine.
Suzanne Enoch has a way of telling a story that leaves you wanting more. Every Duke Has His Day is one of those stories that you can't wait to get to the end of but then you are sad that you arrived there. This is the story of Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, who has a passion, for the science of chemistry. He may be a tad eccentric, but he can navigate a society ballroom, and manage a polite conversation--if he must. He’s certainly capable of taking care of his aunt’s perfectly behaved poodle, Lancelot, while she’s on holiday.
Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering, third daughter of a viscount, is enjoying her second, spectacular Season in London. She is a Diamond of the Season and is adored by all--and especially by her precious black poodle, Galahad. To everyone else, however, Galahad is a demon dog. So much so that Bitsy’s most insistent beau and particular victim of Galahad’s bad manners, has hired a thief to steal the dog, clearing the way for his suit. But none of them can plan for a chaotic encounter in the park, resulting in lost notes, a soaking in the Serpentine and an accidental dog swap...and Lancelot being kidnapped instead of Galahad! Determined to locate the dog, Michael isn’t thrilled to be saddled with a flighty female insisting on helping--except that Bitsy has a great deal more sense than he expected. And a sharp tongue to match. Still, what’s a scientist to do but continue to pursue an outcome, however unexpected it may be? But chemistry is all about attraction, and this is one formula with some hilariously romantic results.
This book is unexpectedly humorous and mysterious. You will enjoy it right to the last page. i would like to thank St. Martin's Griffin Publishers for the advanced reader copy. I was in no way influenced for my review.
Oh my goodness...what a great read! A bit of rom-com with a dash of intrigue in Regency England created a lot of twists and turns that kept me entertained. This is a really well done 'behind closed doors' romantic story. I am really sorry to have it end! I don't want to give too many details away, but will highly recommend this book to romantics of any age. I can not stop smiling. Happy reading!
This was a exciting book about missing poodles and people working together to find lost animals. It's sad how they save the animals so they will be OK. This book was approved by netgalley and the publisher for me to read and review.
It has been a long time since I could not put a Regency down, but Every Duke Has His Day by Suzanne Enoch is a hoot, and I couldn’t stop reading. A science-obsessed duke, a few black poodles, a dognapper, and a sought-after heroine all create a hilarious and charming novel.
The Duke of Woriton is serious about science and invents products that help society. However, he is considered odd by the ton because he does not converse frivolously or attend balls. Elizabeth Dockery must fight off suitors and is trying to decide which one to marry. Her dog dislikes the leading contender, so she puts off accepting him. She meets the Duke of Woriton in one of the best meet-cutes I have ever read. When both of their dogs are stolen, they become partners in using scientific reasoning to discover the culprit.
Dialogue among all characters is humorous; the growing attraction between the Duke and Elizabeth is great fun to witness, and the villain gets his comeuppance. There are also supporting characters the reader gets to know and sympathize with.
This book will appeal to any romantic comedy reader.
I was extremely fortunate to receive an ARC of Every Duke Has His Day by the extraordinary Suzanne Enoch viaNetgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Michael Bromley, the Duke of Woriton, is considered a mad recluse because of his lack of manners and genius scientific wit. Elizabeth Dockering is considered a diamond, and the belle of wvery ball due to her wit and charm. The two meet most unfortunately, and a series of continuous unfortunate events brings them together consistently. I absolutely loved the chemistry in this book, literally. The science, the attraction, the electricity is magnetic. I was drawn to reading this book without stopping. Another superhit unique story.
After her last book, Suzanne Enoch became a staple on my shelf and in my recommendations. There is something so incredibly charming about her stories that have you in blissful escapism and makes the hours pass like minutes. EVERY DUKE HAS HIS DAY is one of those books where its hard to sum up all of the warm, happy feelings you have for it and the enjoyment you get from it: it is just simply great. But as this is a review, I will try to quantify examples, at the risk of sounding overexcitable or overdramatic, in hopes I can entice more people to read this book.
Not only is the concept innovative and the perfect set up for a romance, the antics of the dogs added another layer of sweetness to this painfully adorable love story, both of them, for that matter. Michael and Bitsy (or Elizabeth, if you are Michael) are not only well rounded characters with their own fleshed out personalities and individual wants, but the way they compliment each other is how every romance should be written. The respect they have for each other and what scenes and moments that breeds (pun intended) is truly the stuff that every writer dreams of being able to put down so perfectly on the page. Not to mention their incredible banter, the dialogue is second to none, completely natural but precise and succinct. Jimmy and Sally were an interlude I loved, and the whiplash of wanting to constantly see what the other couple was doing while you were still fully transfixed by the shenanigans of the current POV was near constant--- and welcome.
I felt so completely immersed in the time and place, the historical aspects were so easily included that even the one who has never read a regency would feel right at home in the London ton, and it's sidestreets. Every POV and scene felt intentional, sharp, and a great time to read.
That is far as I can go into my tangle of thoughts without sitting for days trying to articulate how much FUN I had with this read. If SOMETHING IN THE HEIR was a favorite, this cemented me as a lifelong Suzanne Enoch fan. I like a lot of books, and I rate a lot of books highly. But this sweet romance is one of the ones that reminds me of why it is I like to read and the joy I can find therein. Thank you to St. Martins Press and NetGalley: PLEASE keep contracting more Suzanne Enoch.
In this regency romance, a sociable diamond of the season teams up with a quiet, science-driven duke to recover their lost poodles.
I absolutely love this book. The storyline was captivating. I also loved the banter between the two main characters. Michael may have perceived Elizabeth as an airhead upon their initial meeting, but he soon discovered that she was more than the average socialite.
Suzanne Enoch transports you to the past with her witty dialogue. She makes you feel connected to each character. I felt sympathy for a dog thief, which is not something I thought was possible when I began reading this book.
I want to give a huge thank you to NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book. Be sure to be on the lookout for this book in September 2023!
Michael, the Duke of Woriton, meets Miss Elizabeth Dockering during a walk in Hyde Park while their dogs get into a fight.
This is a cute, fun read. Enjoyed the opposite attracts trope and the development of the relationship between Elizabeth and Michael.
Every Duke has his day by Suzanne Enoch is a cute book.
Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, is a Chemist and loves to pursue his passion. When his aunt goes out of town Lancelot her poodle is entrusted to his care.
Bitsy - Elizabeth Dockering, third daughter of a viscount, is in her second season in London and having enormous success. Many of her suitors do not like her poodle.
They meet at the park and accidentally switch dogs—Then there is a dog napping.
The two band together to find the dogs and fall in love. The story is cute and fun and worth a read. I like Recency romances and this one is a good one.
Sweet Historical Romance
Ms. Britton pens a sweet historical in which opposites attract. The studious inventor and the debutante, meeting by accident. That meeting leads to a mix up in the poodles they both had, close to identical, leading further to missing dogs and intrigue.
Thrown together to try to find the dogs, they grow increasingly more comfortable with each other, as each adds their thoughts to the cause. I recommend for Historical HEA lovers.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC to peruse gratis and offer my opinion in the.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Michael is enjoying his life and is not looking for a wife. When he meets Elizabeth he is not happy but the more time they spend together makes him happy. I enjoyed the chemistry between Michael and Elizabeth

This historical romance with it’s witty humor and exciting characters had me falling head over heels.

Susan Enoch gives us a funny, touching and “opposites attract” story. I was smiling/chuckling the whole time I read it. Michael Bromley, the young Duke of Woriton, is a serious scientist —and socially inept! He is reclusive and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him—-except his Aunt Mary. He works in his laboratory and hates to be disturbed. Aunt Mary arrives to leave Lancelot, her black poodle, while she goes to visit her friend. She reminds him to walk the dog every day.
Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering is the “Diamond” of the social season. She is beautiful, caring, and adored by many. Peter Cordray professes love and has proposed to her several times —- but he really needs her dowry! Bitsy has not committed to him. Galahad, Bitsy’s black poodle, doesn’t like Peter. Bitsy and friends decide to take Galahad for a walk in Hyde Park. Peter gets too close to her and Galahad rips his sleeve. And a chase ensues near the bank of the Serpentine.
Meanwhile, Michael decides to take Lancelot for a walk in Hyde Park, too. He is also by the bank of the lake. Galahad and Lancelot collide, dragging the dogs and Michael into the water. And chaos begins! They bring the wrong dogs home.
Kidnappings, dancing, experiments in electricity, clues, searches and more bring Elizabeth and Michael together. Can an eccentric scientist and the belle of the season be attracted to each other? Who is responsible for the kidnappings? These questions and more are answered. LOVED this book! It was so much fun to read —- hilarious events and conversations!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press, St. Martin’s Griffin. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love Suzanne Enoch as an author, and I knew that this read was going to be enjoyable. This is a slow-burn historical romance. I love the trope of enemies to friends and both the main characters get off to a bad start in the story with mild banter. Michael Bromley, the Duke of Woriton is a scientist enthusiast who cares about nothing if it does not relate to science and Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering, a darling diamond of the ton only cares about society. Having promised to watch his aunt’s poodle, Michael takes him on a walk in Hyde Park where Lancelot engages in a dog fight with Galahad, Elizabeth’s unruly dog that has already bitten another gentleman of the ton. Michael finds himself immersed in the Serpentine and later discovers that the dog he brings home is not the one left in his care by his aunt.
For Elizabeth, Galahad does not approve of anyone who will get in the way of him and his master. It is unfortunate that the dog she brings home is Lancelot. In an effort to find his aunt’s lost dog, they join forces to find the missing pooch…for the Duke, he meets his match and finds it hard to avoid Bitsy, a beautiful and sharp-tongued lady. Can his scientific mind create a chemistry of attraction between the two? One only knows in this hilarious historical romance.
I enjoyed the humorous side of this story and I loved budding romance between the secondary characters. It had its laughable moments and a dog-napping that made for chaotic episodes throughout the story. Totally worth reading…recommend.
This was a fun read! Michael and Elizabeth's meeting was so cute! And the immediate sparks between them was great. I did love that this was different than most romances because you have a dog kidnapping plot and they work together to get the dogs back. With that being said, I felt this moved a little slow. It's like we got bogged down in tracking the dogs. I loved the secondary romance between Jimmy and Sally. That was sweet. All in all, a entertaining read by a well loved author.
What fun!! Stuffy hermit duke and the social butterfly meet because of dogs. Such a fun story to read. I think I smiled through most of the book. It did strike my funny bone. I could just picture them meeting Jimmy Bly. Such a hoot!
Michael, the Duke of Woriton, is of the scientific bent and could care less about socializing when he has so much work to do! However, he promised his aunt he’d watch her poodle Lancelot while she’s away and a promise is a promise. Yet chaos ensues when he takes Lancelot for a walk in Hyde Park, ends up with a not so meet cute, involving a dog fight, a dunk in the Serpentine, and then discovers the wrong dog is in his care…what a day!
Miss Elizabeth Dockering is heading in to her second season and is quite the popular girl. She’s always got a full dance card, loads of party invites and many suitors. Her poodle Galahad doesn’t approve of those suitors, but that doesn’t deter one particularly pushy one from trying to finagle his way to the top. (And what a mess he makes…) Unfortunately, her walk in Hyde Park with him and other friends turns in to hilarity and then a big mess, but it also introduces her to Michael.
This book was a cute comedic read! Elizabeth and Michael’s initial meeting was quite hilarious, then the dog switcheroo and the eventual dog-napping that caused a host of issues…chaos. Lots of chaos. However, all that leads to Michael and Elizabeth working together to solve the crimes while developing a rather sweet relationship with one another. I enjoyed the opposites attract trope and liked how their relationship gradually matured with each other. With a lovable cast of supporting characters, this turned out to be a very fun read!
I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book from St. Martins/Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a super fun historical romance read. Iwas immersed into this book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! The writing is incredible and the plot is just so entertaining. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. If you enjoy historical romance, I HIGHLY recommend this book!
