Thank you SMP Romance and NetGalley for the eARC of Every Duke Has His Day! All opinions in this review are my own.
Enoch's books are always good for a few laughs and the opening of Every Duke Has His Day does not disappoint! Michael and Bitsy have a meet disaster right out of 101 Dalmatians. Things only get worse for the two when they accidently switch dogs and one of them gets taken!
Overall, Every Duke Has His Day was a really fun historical romance! I loved the forced proximity of Michael and Bitsy teaming up to find their dogs. However, I didn't love when the narration switched to the side characters. While these sections of the book were relevant to the overall story, I just wanted to go back to focusing on Michael and Bitsy! That being said, I did like how everything came together in the end and it did prove that the narration switches were necessary.
I look forward to Enoch's next romance!
I have not read a book by this Author in a long time, so when I saw this ARC I had to read it, and am I glad I did. Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton and Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering plus his aunt's poodle, Lancelot made for a fun story that had me laughing as I read. The story is well written with a good storyline that held my interest until the end. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Elizabeth is a diamond and sought after. Michael is a Duke, but is more interested in experiments than parties and such. When his Aunt's poodle and Elizabeth's poodle gets switched by mistake it seems simple to exchange them. But when one gets kidnapped and then the other, Elizabeth and Michael work together to find them. This very unlikely couple have some sparks. Is it electrical or love? A charming story.
This was a delightful historical chocked full of pet dogs. That's the main plot line, two black poodles getting tangled up and the theft of one of them and then the other. The eccentric aloof Duke and the diamond of two seasons find themselves tangled together because of their dogs. The story just kept me smiling all the way through. The way Bitsy Dockerton draws Michael Bromley out of his academic head and challenges him intellectually over and over was a treasure. Thank you Suzanne for such a different and fun historical romance!
Michael Bromley is the Duke of Woriton who devotes all his time and energy with scientific discovery to help his fellow man improve their lives. His only family seems to be his father's sister Lady Mary Harris. He adores her and promises to take care of her well mannered and obedient standard black poodle Galahad while she's visiting a friend in Cornwall. He is a recluse working on trying to find a form of chlorine to sterilize wounds without poisoning the patient. When he takes Galahad for a walk in the park, Galahad gets entangled with another almost identical poodle Lancelot.
Lancelot belongs to Lady Elizabeth "Bitsy" Dockerton, youngest daughter of Viscount Mardensea. She's in her second season and is considered a diamond of the season with her charm, poise and wit. Her beloved dog is Lancelot, her devoted protector but more than a bit unruly. He was previously beaten and abandoned and has issues. Bitsy has a large circle of friends and an ardent suitor in Lord Peter Cordray, younger brother of the Marquise of Plasser. Bitsy is unsure if her feelings for Peter will lead to a harmonious marriage. When in the park Lancelot pulls away from her to chase another poodle she meets Michael who's been drug into the lake. They sort out their dogs and return home. Bitsy's dog for some reason is ever so much more obedient and Michael is finding Galahad a very unruly handfull. He quickly realizes the dogs got mixed up and contacts Bitsy at the soiree that evening. This makes a huge impression because Michael avoids social events. Besides that he's taken Peter's promised waltz. This begin an adventure that changes everyone's lives.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Opposites attract with a dog storyline built in??? Impeccable vibes and a must read. Perfect for a cozy little Sunday read, so fun & easy to get through.
Embrace the delightful world of "Every Duke Has His Day" by Suzanne Enoch, where an eccentric duke, a spirited lady, and a mischievous dog swap lead to a whirlwind of romance, laughter, and unexpected twists.
Michael Bromley, the Duke of Woriton, is far more fascinated by the mysteries of chemistry than the social intricacies of Regency England. His tranquil life is turned upside down when he's entrusted with the care of his aunt's beloved poodle, Lancelot.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Dockering, a vibrant and sought-after lady of the season, struggles with the constant attention of the persistent Lord Peter Cordray and her own unruly poodle, Galahad. A chance encounter between the duke and Elizabeth leads to an accidental dog swap, throwing their lives into disarray.
Suzanne Enoch masterfully weaves humor, intrigue, and a touch of mystery into this captivating Regency tale. Michael's eccentricities and Elizabeth's vivacious personality create a dynamic duo that sparks with chemistry and witty banter. Their interactions are a constant source of amusement and heartwarming moments.
Set amidst the backdrop of lavish balls, gossiping ladies, and the pursuit of social status, Enoch captures the essence of the Regency era, immersing the reader in a world of elegance and intrigue.
"Every Duke Has His Day" is a delightful escapade into the world of Regency romance, where love blossoms amidst chaos, laughter, and a touch of canine mischief. Enoch's engaging writing, endearing characters, and charming blend of love, laughter, and unexpected twists make for an irresistible read.
When I saw this romance billed as “Bringing Up Baby meets Jane Austen,” it leaped to the top of my fall TBR list. I LOVE Cary Grant’s screwball comedies and couldn’t wait to see how they translated to a Regency romance. This isn’t a direct retelling, but it is a fun spin on the 1938 film. Michael Blumley, Duke of Loriton would much rather focus on his scientific experiments than socialize with his wealthy peers, but when his aunt’s prized poodle Galahad is accidentally swapped and stolen, Michael must work with another poodle owner: Elizabeth (Bitsy) Dockering to bring the dognappers to justice. Of course, these misunderstood characters fall in love—but there’s nothing spicy in these pages, just a perfectly charming, closed door romp through London. For fans of Mr. Malcolm’s List or 1930s comedies.
Every Duke Has His Day by Suzanne Enoch is one of my favorite historical romances of 2023. It has everything I love: a clever heroine, a grumpy duke, and a hilarious rom com style plot.
Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering is a diamond of the season, beloved by all and surrounded by suitors. Michael Bromley, the Duke of Woriton, is a scientist who has no interest in society and is viewed as a bit of an oddball. The two are thrown together when their dogs are accidentally swamped and then one of the dogs is stolen.
This book is so sweet and funny. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading. Bitsy and Michael are opposites, but they're a delightful match. The book is so entertaining, I read it in one sitting.
There's no steam in Every Duke Has His Day. I didn't even notice it because I was enjoying the fun so much. This is a great read for romance lovers who prefer low or no steam.

This fun, enemies to friends to so much more had me flipping pages until long after I planned to read.
Suzanne Enoch always writes characters that are worth skipping sleep over.
I'm a sucker for when the characters "get" each other unlike anyone else does. It's like their own, private love language and I am here for it.
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
5 stars = Outstanding!
This was incredible! I loved the plot - the banter - the characters. The humor was excellent. The ending was so satisfying. I would absolutely read this again and would recommend it widely. There's no language or sex, so this works for readers who prefer their romance without spice.
An interesting read! I don't think I have ever read a historical romance novel where the characters end up together because of their dogs getting switched up. The whole kidnapping plot if one of the dogs was also unexpected. I found that enjoyable and humorous. It definitely made for a good escape from a rather disheartening reality of "real life".
Books, especially love stories that are centered around two unlikely characters, one absentminded professor and a young debutante, that fall in love because of their black poodles being accidentally switched during a super awkward meet cute, yeah that is a good way to spend a weekend.

I have been provided with a review copy of Every Duke Has His Day from NetGalley for an impartial review. I just really enjoyed this story and I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
I like how the main characters in this historical romance don't act as they are expected to especially Duke Michael Blumley who is a scientist.
As always, Suzanne Enoch's writing is perfection with fun characters and an interesting plot. Overall, this book was just fun and enjoyable, and I really couldn't ask for more in a book.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing an ARC of this book.
This book is just simply adorable! It's a clean romance, and it seriously gives off Disney vibes. At times, it reminded me of 101 Dalmatians.
I love Michael and Elizabeth's banter and all of their hijinks as they look into the disappearance of their poodles. I really enjoyed their sarcastic back and forth interactions. It was also nice to get the POV of some of the side characters, especially the villain.
Overall, every Duke Has His Day is a super cute, fast-paced romcom that I highly recommend if you're in the mood for something light and fluffy.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This is my first book from Suzanne Enoch but certainly not my last!
I knew this was a Regency era romance/mystery going in but this is so much more! Slow burn! Enemies to lovers! Black sheep & going against the norm of society.
Bitsy and Michael meet when their black poodles get tangled up in Hyde Park. They’re swapped and before they can correct the mistake, one of them is kidnapped (or dognapped as it may be).
Hilarity ensues with suitors, going to unsavory part of town, and scenes from the dognappers POV.
Overall, super enjoyable light read!
I really enjoy this author! I was so glad to have been given the chance to read her new book early! I thought this one was so cute! It was an easy read too. I thought the main characters were a perfect match! These two were a grumpy/sunshine pair! I really like this trope for sure! This book didn’t have any steam only kisses. But I thought it was a sweet romance for those who don’t want steam! All in all an enjoyable read!
What a charming novel! I do love a good Regency romance occasionally, though sometimes they tend to blend together after a while. Every Duke Gets His Day is a traditional, no-spice regency romance but it was so different than others I've read recently! While it follows a grumpy-sunshine trope, one I don't personally read often, the characters were so distinctively different in other ways. Aside from their age difference (practically ten years), they couldn't be more different in personality. Bitsy is sunshine-y all the time and brings joy to any event she attends, but Michael does come off grumpy and gruff since he considers any and all social graces a waste of time and would rather hide away in his lab than go to a ball. It was great to see them learn from each other as the book went on.
What really sets this novel apart, however, is the presence of dogs. Were they very popular pets in Regency England? I have no idea but I wouldn't have thought so based on their lack of existence in every other Regency romance I've come across. One time a heroine had a little kitten, but that's the extent to which I've seen pets in this genre. Meanwhile, the people of the ton in this book have so many dogs that it's a lucrative career for people to steal them and offer them back at ransom. Bitsy herself had been subjected to the crime before the book began, and then again after the book started. Several of her friends have been victims of dog-nappings as well! I'd better do a little research on the subject.
The longer the couple spends time with each other in the book, the more charming it becomes. Normally a little spice helps carry the plot, but I think there were only two kisses in the whole book and the plot did not suffer. Instead, I found myself reading far past my bedtime and regretting it the next day. Dang it, adult responsibilities. This book was four stars for me and I highly recommend it to romance lovers, particularly those who also love dogs.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy. As always, opinions are my own.
Adorable. I really enjoyed this quick, cute read. I fell in love with the two MC's right away and I loved that it was a clean romance, refreshing to find at times. If you want a good, steamy romance, this isn't the right book for you. There's very, very little in this book but it still was worth the time (for romance genre). Even if you love steamy romance and look for that, you still might love how whimsical it is and how Michael Blumley, Duke of Loriton, and Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering meet in the most unusual and funny way.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of 5
This book was extremely cute (and maybe a smidge on the ridiculous side but it’s romance so anything goes) and I sped through reading it. The only problem was I got the epilogue and realise there had been a grand total of 2 kisses and not a hint of anything more. No fade to black. Not even closed door hinting. Nothing. Nada. The epilogue also didn’t provide anything either. I’m stumped! I love this author and every other book I’ve read of hers had steam- what’s the go???!
Our hero is a duke who is known as a rude recluse who studies science and definitely does not mingle in society. Our heroine is society’s darling with many suitors. One day the two of them cross paths and accidentally swap dogs? Upon realising they go to swap back only to find themselves in the middle of a dog-napping scheme which brings them together to hunt down both their dogs.
Ok so what I loved about this book- well I am definitely a sucker for sunshine/grump trope and this bought it in spades! Also there is something about the hero being a man of science that really gets me going (also happens IRL too 🙈) and on top of that him melting for a society darling. The antics with the dogs were super cute and I was somehow rooting for the dog-mapper to find love too! Overall I actually really enjoyed this book but somehow feel really let down at the same time?
As a fan of historical romance this book pulled me in and keep me going right until the end. I just felt like I was there and that these characters were real and that is a sign of a great story in my opinion.
