Michael is a Duke, but more importantly (To him, at least) a man of science. It being his main interest, he isn’t popular with the other men of society who couldn’t care less (and I confess, I myself skimmed over some of his scientific talk)
He’s agreed to dog sitting his aunt’s poodle Lancelot for 6 weeks, even if he’s not terribly excited about it.
Elizabeth, known by most as Bitsy, is single and in her second season. Friendly and generally well liked, she has the eyes of several men but one in particular pushing at a proposal. Her own poodle, Galahad, is a bit of a repeller when it comes to pushy potential suiters though.
After a meet ugly mishap at the park Michael and Elizabeth’s dogs get switched, a dog-napping before they can exchange them back complicates things further. Searching for missing poodles and dealing with ransom demands keeps them in proximity and they learn they might like each other more than initially expected.
I honestly didn’t care that much about the science experiments (sorry Michael!) but I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the storyline.
Even though I don’t read as much historical fiction as I used to, I enjoy the ones like this author’s, because she throws in enough modern sensibilities and humor to keep me interested. The banter between characters is fun, especially as they get to know each other more. And when the staff started to show their snark - and maybe meddle a bit - it was great. The villain was the sort you can’t wait for bad things to come to.
I’m also a sucker for a good dog story, and this one has more than double the dogs!
Bromley House, London
Michael Bromley, the Duke of Woriton, is very involved with his scientific work. He gives lectures and is also a Fellow of the Royal Society. His aunt, Lady Mary, is leaving her black poodle, Lancelot, with Michael for 6 weeks while she visits some friends. She asks that Michael walk him very often to which he agrees. Lancelot is a well-behaved dog.
Elizabeth (Bitsy) Dockering is very popular as she is enjoying her second season in London. She also has a black poodle named Galahad. Lord Peter Cordray is courting her with a hope to marry her and gain her large dowry. However, Galahad does not like him as he is not well behaved and the feeling is mutual with Peter.
One day while Michael is walking Lancelot in the park, Bitsy and Galahad are there as well. Galahad sees Lancelot and breaking away from Bitsy, runs to Michael and Lancelot knocking both of them into the water. As Bitsy apologizes and Michael tries to retain his dignity while getting Lancelot together, he leaves in a huff only to find later that he has brought Galahad home instead of Lancelot. That evening at a soiree, Michael sees Bitsy and explains the situation and they agree to meet at her home the next morning to exchange dogs. But that night, Lancelot is stolen and the search is on to find him.
Michael is so smart and has such a dry humor. I loved him! Bitsy is a kind-hearted young woman and her putting up with “that cad” was too much. (You have to read the story to find out who the cad is and believe me, I would have loved to punch him myself!) This is a clean, humorous, and cleverly-written novel that I liked immensely even though Michael’s experiments went over my head. Enjoy!

It was well-written and enjoyable. I do enjoy the books by Suzanne Enoch. Thank you for letting me read it
Michael Bromley, the Duke of Woriton, is more interested in science than anything else. His aunt asks him to take care of her poodle while she’s away and he assures her that he is perfectly able to do so.
Bitsy Dockering is having a wonderful second season in London. She’s adored by everybody, who agrees that she is spectacular. Her poodle however is another story. He adores Bitsy and nobody else. One of her suitors hires a thief to steal Galahad.
Michael and Bitsy meet in the park where things go hilariously wrong. Somebody falls in the Serpentine and the dogs get swapped accidentally. This results in the wrong dog getting kidnapped. Bitsy insists on helping look for Lancelot which doesn’t thrill Michael nut she turns out to be a bigger help than he expected. He knows all about chemistry and it turns out there is some major chemistry between these two.
A hilarious rom-com that is truly a winner.
Every Duke Has His Day, is authored by Suzanne Enoch, and I’ve added more of her books to my TBR pile since I’ve only read one other one by her, and I enjoy her style of writing.
This regency romance has many stories being told and woven together nicely. Most characters are likable, except for one, and he’s trying to win Bitsy’s hand in marriage. How’s that going?
Michael may be a duke, but he’s not very outgoing and would rather spend time with his scientific experiments. He’s also considered odd by most of the ton. Bitsy is always up for a good time, and since this is her second season, she expects to find someone to marry.
Peter, who isn’t as he seems, feels he’s been courting her for two years and expects the next time he asks her to marry him, she’ll say yes. Her dog doesn’t like Peter, which is holding her back from making his wishes come true. But what lengths will he go to in order to ensure a positive response this time?
There were some laugh-out-loud moments as well as some heartbreaking ones. Bitsy—whom Michael prefers to call Elizabeth—and Michael get to know each other a little at a time and begin an unlikely friendship. Both seem to have feelings for the other and as they progress through trials and tribulations, there are definite sparks. He’s not very good in society but is always better when Bitsy’s around or he thinks of what she would say or do in a situation. Bitsy has never felt so protected, alive, and challenged as when they are together.
There are many characters— family, friends, the less fortunate, and dogs since Bitsy’s dog and Michael’s aunt’s dog, whom Michael’s watching while she’s away, are key to the story. There’s also scientific terminology, some sleuthing to find the dogs when they go missing, as well as soirees and parties. There are vivid descriptions that bring the story to life. There is wonderful closure presented in an unexpected way. The cover is fun and colorful.
Every Duke Has His Day is a Regency romance with science and dogs to keep readers on our toes and turning the pages to see what could possibly happen next!
I rated the book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars here and on other sites.
A sweet and fun read. When Michael (the Duke of Loriton) and Elizabeth ("Bitsy") accidentally meet in the park one day, it sets the wheel of fate in motion. When their poodles collide and confusion ensues, Gallahad and Lancelot are exchanged accidentally and the complications continue from there.
There are several dognappings, numerous balls, misunderstandings, mysteries, jealous suitors, confusing feelings, a scientist who is also a duke that might just be falling for the diamond of the season and a seemingly spoiled diamond who may be falling for a scientific duke. It's a comedy of errors in the best kind of ways.
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: The audiobook was narrated well. The voices fit the feel of the book and characterization. I was able to become even more fully immersed in the story. 4 stars
Thank you to NetGalley for both early copies of the ebook and audiobook. I voluntarily chose to read/listen and review them both and the opinions contained within are my own.
This was a really fun read and so much hysterical hi jinks galore. This story was written by one of my favorite authors. Ms Enoch brings so much to get the reader enthralled from the first page. The characters were fully developed with thoughts and feelings of their own.
Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton is a different kind of duke. He has a knowledge of all things in chemistry. Even though he can navigate the waters of the ton he feels more at home where he can study his love of science. He is also taking care of his aunt's poodle called Lancelot while she away on holiday. When he take the dog to the park, he finds trouble in the guise of one feisty woman.
Elisabeth "Bitsy" Dockering is the diamond of the season and is adored by all. Her suitor is trying to get her to marry him, but her poodle Galahad can't stand the man and growls at him when he's near.
When Bitsy takes her dog to the park, she finds a man who has a dog like her's which ends up in the water. Both pets get exchanged for one another and no ones the wiser.
When Lancelot is dog napped by strangers, Michael doesn't need a flighty female helping him in his search for the lost pet. There is lots of mayhem abound when two people in their quest to get a dog back, find out the law of attraction between them is one in a million.
I really enjoyed this and hope more from this outstanding author.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.
Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, is more interested in chemistry than society balls. He can manage conversation and his aunt’s poodle Lancelot while she’s on holiday. Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering is having a wonderful Season with her precious black poodle, Galahad. Bitsy feels he’s perfect, but to everyone else, Galahad’s a terror. A potential suitor hires a thief to steal Galahad, but a chance encounter means Lancelot is stolen instead. Michael isn’t thrilled that Bitsy insists on helping, but he does love chemistry...
The meet-cute between Michael and Elizabeth isn't cute for them, given that it ends up with Michael in a stream and the dogs mixed up. He's straightforward with no time for social niceties, while Elizabeth is well-known in the ton and is considered its crown jewel among eligible young women. She's smarter than people assume she is, and is exceedingly kind. She refuses to be left out of the search for the poodles, with just as many good ideas. This keeps the two of them in each other's orbit when they otherwise never would have met, and they see each other's positive traits. Elizabeth enjoys Michael's knowledge and isn't put off by his brusque demeanor, and he enjoys her wit and intelligence. Her erstwhile suitor who set this all in motion is revealed to the reader to be worse and worse, and we can't help but root just as hard for his comeuppance as well as for the happily ever after. This happens, of course, for all those in the book who have a kind heart. It's such a fun and engaging read, and I truly enjoyed it.
I enjoyed reading this regency romcom after reading a few dark and emotional books lately. This one included dogs, which I loved, they were part of the story. Very far off from a typical regency romance, its closed door and very light and fun.
Known as a reclusive, Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, loves everything that has to do with chemistry. He has also invented chemicals that have aided the military. His Aunt Mary has asks him to watch her black poodle Lancelot, who is a perfectly groomed and behaved dog. Elizabeth Dockering, known as Bitsy is a daughter of a viscount and has a great group of friends. Because of her sweet personality, everyone loves being around her. She also has a black poodle known as Galahad who is not behaved at all, and he does not like Peter Cordray, and for that reason, Peter wants rid of him one way or another so he can once again ask Bitsy to marry him. As Cordray plots to have him stolen, he wasn’t aware that in a scuffle at the park, the two dogs were mixed up, so the wrong dog was stolen. The plot thickens when her dog ends up stolen also. A story to follow how Michael and Bitsy work together to find their dogs, the man who stole them but couldn’t do what was requested of him, and how love can bring two people believed to been so different but turns out to be putting a negative and a positive together so add the spark.
Every Duke has his Day by Suzanne Enoch is a fun read. Not only are the characters more unique, but the storyline is also different. I found myself cheering Bitsy and Michael on. I loved the eccentricities of the people who worked for the duke and how they acted with his best interest even when he didn’t want them too. One part that stood out for me was Bitsy’s parents seemed pretty laid back for the time.
Michael is the Duke of Loriton. Only he is more like an eccentric scientist than a duke. However, as he loves his aunt, he takes in her black poodle while she is away. Lancelot is a wonderfully trained dog and no problem. Bitsy (Elizabeth) has a black poodle as well. Only hers is not well behaved and in particular takes offense at her latest beau by growling and biting.
After a to do in the park where the dogs are switched and then the wrong dog is kidnapped is the beginning of a wonderful love story about two people who can look to another for help and comfort. BTW - There is a third black poodle in London that is going to be intermeshed with the others.
Every Duke has his Day by Suzanne Enoch was a good read that kept my interest.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Suzanne Enoch for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Every Duke Has His Day coming out September 19, 2023. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, only real passion in life is the pursuit of chemistry. He doesn’t care to chase women or gamble until dawn. He may be a tad odd, but he can navigate a society ballroom, and manage a polite conversation—if he is forced to. He’s capable of taking care of his aunt’s perfectly behaved poodle, Lancelot, while she’s away.
Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering, third daughter of a viscount, is enjoying her second, spectacular Season in London. She is a Diamond of the Season and is adored by all—and especially by her lovely black poodle, Galahad. To everyone else, Galahad is a demon dog. So much so that Bitsy’s most insistent beau and particular victim of Galahad’s bad manners, has hired a thief to steal the dog to get him out of the way.
But none of them can plan for a chaotic encounter in the park, resulting in lost notes, a soaking in the Serpentine and an accidental dog swap…and Lancelot being kidnapped instead of Galahad! Determined to locate the dog, Michael isn’t thrilled to be working with a flighty female, except Bitsy has a great deal more sense than he thought. And a sharp tongue to match. Still, what’s a scientist to do but pursue an outcome, however unexpected it may be? But chemistry is all about attraction, and this is one formula with some hilariously romantic results.
I received this directly from NetGalley and I was definitely excited about the involvement with dogs who are precious and adorable. But to be honest, I didn’t like this one as much as Something in the Heir. I really enjoyed it, but I think it was missing something for me. Bitsy seemed a little full of herself at times. She seemed like she just wanted to be admired by men and wanted to be wrapped up in a love triangle. It’s probably the source of some of her problems. She was too blind to see someone’s intentions were bad. Michael was an interesting character. I did like Elizabeth and Michael’s interactions for the most part, but I was expecting more a more zany, fun plot with the dogs. I thought there would be more banter. I didn’t care for the side characters Sally and Jimmy. I thought they took up too much of the book and not enough focus was on the main characters. Honestly, the dogs were my favorite part about this story.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys historical dramas!
Thank you to @smpromance
for gifting me a digital ARC through @netgalley for an honest review !
This is such a fun regency romance. The story made me laugh many times.
Michael is a scientist and a Duke. His peers described him as an eccentric. He's prompt, lives with facts and doesn't like society at all. He's too honest for it.
Elizabeth is the diamond of the season. She's charming, brilliant and men are battling for her hand in marriage.
She loves her dog, Gallahad, a black poodle who attacks everyone around her.
When Michael babysits the black poodle of his aunt, Lancelot, they finally meet in a disarray of fur, water and teeth.
And they come back to their homes with the wrong poodle.
This book was so soft and lovable. A grumpy x sunshine book that everyone will want to read before Christmas.
In this book you can find :
✨ Opposites attract ;
✨ Grumpy x Sunshine ;
✨ A mystery ;
✨ Cute dogs ;
✨ Romance without Spice.
A science loving Duke falls for a much younger Deb when their beloved poodles get mixed up and then dognapped and they are forced to work together to get them back. Equally laugh out loud funny and full of heart, this is a standout historical Regency romance that is sure to delight Bridgerton fans! Good on audio too narrated by Mark Meadows. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!!
This is my second book by Suzanne Enoch and I just can't get enough of her witty and entertaining writing style!
I love this cover that sums up the basic premise pretty well- a popular socialite, a 'diamond' of the Season and a burly, eccentric scientist who would much rather stay at home than be forced to endure social engagements people of his rank and standing seem to be so unnecessarily fond of. And two poodles, of course, who happen to look almost exactly the same.
Michael Bromely, Duke of Woriton, is such a lovely male lead- he's kind, thoughtful, and knows his mind. When his Aunt Mary asks him to take her of her black poodle Lancelot, his life is about to get turned upside down by a delightful Miss Elizabeth Dockering and her menace of a dog Galahad. The poodles get mistakenly swapped and taken to wrong homes and Lancelot in his turn becomes a victim of dognapping by a rather hapless thief hired by Mis Elizabeth's wily suitor. A thrilling adventure and a once in a lifetime chance to meet and fall madly in love with someone witty, intelligent, and open-minded, despite being one's direct opposite in disposition and interests.
As in Suzanne Enoch's previous book There's Something in the Heir, there is a lot of comedy, but here we also have sweet, tender, slow-burn romance...actually two of them, as there is an unexpected second couple and I was almost as invested in their progress as in our main leads' story.
The pace was perfect- steady enough to show the characters' development and allow for all the plot twists and turns to, but fast enough to keep me absorbed in the story and thoroughly entertained. I rarely say this, but I wanted the story to continue. Hope the author gives us a glimpse into the main couple's future in her later books.
Definitely recommended to anyone who loves the genre of regency romance and enjoys a good romcom.
When Bitsy and Michael and their poodles end up entangled their lives will never be the same. When Michael the Duke of Woriton discovers he and Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering have accidentally taken each other’s poodle after their mishap at the park, he goes to get his aunt’s Lancelot back. Only he then discovers the dog has been taken from Bitsy’s house. Determined to find the dog napper and get the beloved black poodle back the Duke reluctantly accepts Bitsy’s help. The more time the two spend together the more they realize there is more to each other than meets the eye. When Galahad gets kidnapped Michael knows there must be more other motives behind the dog nappings. Will the poodles be found and safely returned to their homes? Will the Duke be able to tell Elizabeth his feelings before it’s too late?
I enjoyed this book but it fell a little flat for me. I felt the story was more about the dogs than the romance. I did appreciate how the couple learns to respect and admire each other for their differences, as they are opposites. I also liked how the author helped the reader empathize with the dog napper by shedding a light on his life and conditions. I just felt a little let down in the romance department.
I just finished this and the contented smile refuses to leave my face. This was a light & delightful story full of hijinx and an untypical romance. This was not a wooing story, the Duke is not that type of man but he is kind, smart & surprisingly charming when he puts forth the effort. The bumbling kidnapping of Elizabeth’s dog leads to mistaken dog identity and a mystery that pulls them together. Despite having seemingly nothing in common, the more time Michael and Elizabeth spend together, the closer they get. Add in a misguided, somewhat lovable kidnapped and his love interest and you get double the romance. I truly enjoyed this story.
What happens when the brainiac meets the life of the party? This is not your typical historical romance nor your typical opposites attract, nerd vs popular meet cute because the smarty pants is Michael the Duke of Bromley and Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering is miss popular. There is a great meet-cute in the beginning with almost a “101 Dalmations “ vibe but otherwise I will admit the starting chapters were a bit hard for me. I almost felt like Bitsy was “too much” , almost to the point of unlikeable, when in actuality she is a product of the situation. But do not fear, this author does not leave you disappointed and I urge you to hold out to see Bitsy’s redeeming qualities and her true nature hiding underneath the frivolity. This is a humorous, quick, soft historical romance and a bit of a slow build with minimal steam but the funny scenarios between Bitsy and Michael as well as Galahad and Lancelot keep it enjoyable. I give this book 4 stars and if not for the beginning it would probably be 5, since both leads were strong in their own right and the comedy between the characters will leave you in stitches. I received and arc copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest opinion.
If you like historical romance this one will be right up your alley. But this one was different, it was so original and so much fun! Matching poodles? Dog-napping? Chemistry between our hero and our heroine? A bad guy? All here. This was a delightful read and you should add it to your list!
Thanks for the ARC NetGalley!
This book is a no surprises, no spice fun historical fiction romcom. Honestly, my best friend and all the ladies at my church would love this book so much. It does have very limited swear words, but nothing that would cause any pearl clutching.
The romance plot was very very cute and sweet. This book is perfect for lovers of historical fiction, dogs, and regency-era scientific discoveries.
This book has multiple third person PoVs, and I enjoyed getting to know some of the side characters. The poodles were such cute nonhuman characters as well.
