I ADORED getting to know Lorelei and Craig (aka Huck) in [a:Erin Hahn|17130322]’s [b:Friends Don’t Fall in Love|65213793]. (While this is technically the third in a series that includes [b:You’d Be Mine|36146624] and [b:Built to Last|59808252] it can absolutely be read as a standalone – I haven’t read the other two and didn’t even realize until after I was done.)
Lorelei is a former country starlet who, a la the band then known as the Dixie Chicks, who gets herself immediately canceled after a surprise performance of Neil Young’s “Ohio,” protesting school shootings. She’s dropped by everyone from her agent to her country star fiancé, Drake; the only person who stands by her is Huck, who plays bass in Drake’s band and secretly writes all his songs. Lorelei disappears – fast forward seven years – and suddenly she’s creeping back into the spotlight and back to Nashville, where she teams up with Huck, who now owns his own indie studio, to stage her comeback. Huck has always loved Lorelei – can they work and make music together without the whole thing combusting?
Huck is an ideal romance book MMC for me. He’s steady and assured without being bossy; incredibly, deeply romantic (hello, secret erotic poetry account), and he stands by Lorelei as all of country music turns against her, even when it might hurt his career to do so, simply because it’s the right thing to do. Lorelei is a perfect match: supremely talented, unapologetically herself even when it hurts her career. Their chemistry is off the charts and we are treated to plenty of open-door spice.
I always love a story involving professional musicians, and this is no exception. It’s a bit of a risk for an author to write lyrics that should be brilliant, but Hahn nails it. And it’s great that Hahn calls out the ways the industry can be toxic, especially to women who dare to speak their minds.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press, St. Martin’s Griffin for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Most of the time I felt like reading a personal diary instead of a book.
Sorry to say but this book wasn't for me. This book felt kinda flat for me. I didn't feel the chemistry between the MCs and there were a lot of random flashbacks that didn't make much sense to the context.
Thank you Netgalley & Publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Craig and Lorelai are indeed friends. Their connection is complicated with Lorelai being engaged to Drake, a friend and colleague of Craig. They are all in the country music industry. Lorelai is the most successful until she made a bad decision at one of her concerts and was banished from performing, Nashville, and her engagement to Drake. When she decided to return, there were many loose issues that were not resolved by her abrupt departure. Craig was there as a friend to help her get settled, however he has always had an intense attraction to Lorelai and she reciprocated the feeling. Their love is hot and steamy! I wasn't expecting the graphic descriptions, but I'm not one to shy away from that.
I loved the music industry tie in. The characters were great and if Cherry Garcia is your favorite ice cream, then you're my favorite character, Lorelai. Lorelai and Craig were so tentative about expressing their feelings for each other that it drove me a little crazy, but it did create tension. Fun read!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the arc.
I adored Huck and Lorelei’s story! If you love a slow burn, will they or won’t they, he falls first (and SO hard), best friends to lovers, staying true to yourself despite the critics romance with the background of the music industry, you will, too. I loved Huck’s softness and strength and Lorelei’s conviction and determination. They were absolutely perfect together! Erin Hahn continues to impress me and write romances that knock my socks off. Highly recommend it!
I Received an advanced reading copy, receipt of which did not impact my review.
Throw on some country music and get reading this one! Wow, was this one good. I just fell in love with Craig aka Huckleberry who is just always there for Lorelai - just solid. Lorelai is a country music star that goes against guns in a very public way after teaching and then goes back to teaching. Loved the side characters, the setting - made you want to hop on a plane- the lyrics - wanted you to be played - the steam was on fire! Loved Lorelai had celiac and was a teacher- could tell these were own voice so well done!
I couldn’t get enough of it and now I'm going to have to go back to read her previous one.
This wasn't my favorite Hahn book ever, but I did really enjoy it. Also, it's recommended that you read both her YA novel You'd Be Mine and her adult Built to Last before reading this one, but it's not necessary. It would just make for a better experience since the characters from both of those books are in this one.
I really liked the first half of this book. The tension and pining were out of this world. We lost a little bit of it about halfway through when it kinda felt like the same thing was happening over and over. But also, they were so cute together. I really couldn't be that mad about it.
If you're more of a plot-driven book, this is not the book for you. There's really no plot other than trying to help Lorelei's career not tank more than it already has. But it was still nice getting to know Lorelei and Craig so fully.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read that has solidified my love for Hahn's books. Hopefully, Maren's book is next on the list because I wanna know what's going on with her!
A fantastic read, this book focuses on rekindling past friendships, the power of staying true to your values. I adored Lorelei in Built to Last, was so excited to hear her story.
Lorelei, a former country music starlet, and Huck, a up and coming country music producer, share a history of friendship and a strong connection that is hard to ignore. They are both driven to prove themselves in the industry, and their chemistry is palpable. While the flashbacks provided insight into their long-term friendship, they did not significantly impact the plot.
This book shows what teachers face in regard to gun violence in America. You should be aware that it is central to plot. No gun violence is depicted on the page.
In this book there is an element of vague booking. Where you post something online hoping that one person you care about reads it. In this book steamy poetry was shared. It was a delightful aspect! I really enjoyed this book & hope you have a chance to check it out.
Friends Don't Fall in Love is an endearing romance set in the country music scene with tropes including he falls first, friends to lovers, found family, and second chance. The story follows Lorelai, a former school teacher turned country musician who after performing a protest song in favor of gun control, is barred from the music industry. After returning to teach for a few years, Lorelai moves back to Nashville and decides to pick back up on her music. Helping her through it all is her best friend Huck, who happens to be a music producer willing to do anything to get Lorelai back into the music scene. With a past between them and a burning connection, the two get closer than ever before while Lorelai attempts to jumpstart her career with the help of Huck producing and writing for her new album.
This is an absolutely charming romance, I loved getting to step into the country music industry, something I'm not too familiar with, and immerse myself in Lorelai and Huck's history. They're whole relationship is built on trust and love through years of friendship and I loved how they slowly fell for each other even further throughout the story. Huck was so lovable and sweet, taking care of Lorelai in any way he knew how, the man had been hopelessly in love with her for years and it was definitely noticeable in the ways he treated her. Beyond the romance, the writing and story were very easy to follow yet steeped in layers of emotion and history between Lorelai and Huck that added a nice depth. The flashbacks were a nice addition to giving context to their past relationship and how they felt about each other all along, though I was a little lost in the beginning with all the time skips. This is my first ever read from Erin Hanh and I am so excited to explore more from her in the future!
I am now a fangirl of Lorelai! And Huck is totally not the alpha hero but is so swoon worthy for so many reasons! I love the characters. The book is fun story of finding yourself again after losing everything. The story pulled me in right away and I had a hard time putting it down. There are characters from the author's previous book, but you can enjoy this one on its own. I truly love that both of the characters start to stand up for themselves and stop putting everyone else before themselves. I've definitely become a fan of the author with this one and will keep an eye out for other books by her. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
We first met Lorelai in Built to Last and we knew she would be an amazing main character when it was her turn to fall in love. We instantly fell in love with Craig and his sweet demeanour and loyal heart. This swoon-worthy book was really hard to out down!
Lorelai lost everything she’d worked so hard for in her music career when she played a protest song at a concert. Nashville and even her superstar fiancé turned their back on her so she fled to Michigan to start over. But five years later, she’s ready for a comeback with the help of Craig, her old friend who’s been secretly in love with her since the beginning. Sometimes you don’t realize that your person was the one cheering you on all along.
Lorelai and Craig gave us everything! Angst, tension, banter, chemistry and all the spice. And don’t even get us started on Craig’s secret sexy poem account on Instagram. They had such an easy friendship which got a bit complicated when it turned into a friends with benefits arrangement. Of course there was some miscommunication but their friends (who we loved) really pulled through and helped the see the light!
We throughly enjoyed this swoony best friends to lovers romance with a HEA. Celebrity romances are having a moment lately and you should definitely consider adding this one to you TBR.

This is the second book from Erin Hahn that I have reviewed through NetGalley. "Friends Don't Fall in Love" is a wonderful romance book. Right from the start I liked the relationship Lorelai and Huck have. They are great friends, but definitely meant to be more than just friends. The sexual tension between them is huge and I was rooting for them the entire story.
I loved the first adult book bye Erin Hahn so I was pretty excited for this one. I got a little nervous about the school shooting aspect because that can be a bit triggering for me. But I think it was handled well and I appreciated Lorelai standing up for what she believed in.. knowing it could cause some backlash.
I did get a little tired of all the music industry business talk. It felt like a lot at times. And the miscommunication was killing me! I loooove how they spoke in song lyrics and poetry. Very unique and swoony. Huckleberry’s secret poetry account pining over her? I die.
Overall, it was a sweet and unique romance that I thoroughly enjoyed!
This book felt kinda flat for me. I didn't feel the chemistry between the MCs and there were a lot of random flashbacks that didn't make much sense to the context.
Most of the time I felt like reading a personal diary instead of a book.
Sorry to say but this book wasn't for me.

Once upon a time Lorelei had every future country star’s dream. A thriving country music career and the hot-ass fiancée to match her talents. One night, one stance taken and it’s all ripped away from her. She decides to take a break from the stolen country music career and the toxicity of Nashville. However just up and leaving doesn’t scratch the itch that remains in Lorelei’s love of music and the possibility of returning for a do-over.
Enter Craig “Huck” Boseman. Best friend turned one-night stand turned indie music producer. Reaching out on a whim Lorelei decides to return to Nashville for Huck’s help in giving her a second chance. The chemistry from their fiery one-night stand hasn’t extinguished one bit. Each Huck and Lorelei do their best to stay friends (sometimes with benefits) but sometimes don’t you just need to scratch the itch?
We loved Built to Last and would highly recommend reading that and then jumping into this one. The background from that story helps to build the anticipation for Friends Don’t Fall In Love. Specifically Lorelei because you cannot help but to fall in love with her. And knowing how fucked over she was for taking a goddamn rightful stand just added to our love. We loved everything about Lorelei and knew that she deserved to have a man that would fully support the shit outta her. And that man is Huck. Holy shitballs he is THE book boyfriend that will ruin us all.
After reading BTL we knew we couldn’t wait to read FDFIL but this one exceeded our expectations and locked in Erin as an author that “if she writes it we’re going to read it!”
If you’re into books with music star vibes and a man that is willing to treat her like the queen she is (ahem, Traylor’ish vibes) then this should be topping your TBR!
This was an utterly delightful friends to lovers romance between a singer and songwriter who finally take a chance on love when their mutual friend stands one of them up at the alter. Amazing on audio with original songs, and great for anyone who enjoys Rockstar romances and the complications of working together with your lover. I really enjoyed this one!! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
Steam level: open door
So so good! Cannot wait to read more from this author. I completely forgot I had this book and when I started it I was so mad I didn’t read it sooner
Lorelai has had a rough couple of years. As a rising star in the country music world, she seemingly had it all. One night, she sang a protest song against gun violence. In the moment it was great, but then things spiraled out of control and she was canceled. Her manager fired her, her record label let her go, and her fiancé dumped her over social media. Lorelai only has one friend left.
Huck is the person Lorelai turns to years later when she’s thinking about making a comeback. He has a recording studio that he’s just getting off the ground. Huck also writes songs – and he’s written one that might be perfect for Lorelai. But it also might share his secret--that he’s been in love with her for years.
FRIENDS DON’T FALL IN LOVE by Erin Hahn is the companion novel to last year's BUILT TO LAST. While you can read it as a standalone, references to the previous book are made and there are updates on the characters. With all the current news cycle focused on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, it’s fun to read about the behind-the-scenes action of a musical career. FRIENDS DON’T FALL IN LOVE is also a great friends-to-lovers story. Everyone enjoys a comeback story and it’s easy to root for Lorelai. The end of the book hints at a third story in the friend group; I can’t wait because these books are like catnip.

When Lorelei gets dumped by her megastar fiancée, she leaves Nashville and returns to teaching. However, her urge to perform brings her back and reunite her with Craig, her ex’s former bandmate turned producer.
After years of friendship and a random hookup, can these two remain friends?
I absolutely loved this latest from @erinhahn_author, her follow up to Built to Last. Highly recommend!
Slow burn romance with all the southern charm you could want! Lorelai must find a way to put her life back together after a horrible (and rather public) breakup with her fiancé, over a protest song she added to her set list. Her fiancés best friend Craig, goes to comfort her after the split and has stayed her steady shoulde rever since! Years go by and the two must find a way to sort through their lives and their feels for each other. The chemistry between Lorelai and Craig, was palpable from the very beginning. If you’re a fan of the “he falls first” trope, then look no further. Would recommend for anyone just looking for a cute romance to add to their evening reads🥰
✨ PRINCEMAN REVIEW ✨
🎸🎶🍻 If you love country music and the Nashville scene, 'Friends Don't Fall in Love' by Erin Hahn is your next romance read! 🎸🎶🍻
📝 Lorelai Jones was America's country music star. She was young, talented and engaged to one of the hottest country music singers. But it was all good to be true, and one moment changed everything. Everyone and everything fell apart, except for her friend Craig Boseman---her ex-fiancé's bandmate. Lorelei isn't ready to quit and she's ready for a comeback. Craig may just be the person she needs to get her life back on track, and in more ways than one. 💕

Once I picked up this book, I couldn't stop. Right away I was hooked into the mystery of why Lorelei was shunned from country music execs. Then, throw in flashbacks of two friends, with one harboring a secret crush on his bandmate's girl...sign me up! The whole time I was rooting for Lorelei's comeback story, and I loved how her relationship progressed with Craig.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the chapter titles! Each was a song, and it specifically related to each chapter. I'm convinced Hahn is a creative genius. One thing I wish had been done a bit differently was the communication style between these two. They are in their mid-thirties, so even if they are communicating through song, it should have been a bit easier for them. But, I adored this story and that epilogue will forever go down as one of my favorites of all time.
⭐️ Friends Don't Fall in Love is Book 2 in the "Built to Last" series. Yet, this book can be read as a standalone.
🙏 Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press and Erin Hahn for an ARC of this book. FDFIL comes out October 17!
