Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a fun, cute and spicy romance that has your friends to lovers trope that is set around country music! It is filled with angst, tension, banter, chemistry, and wonderful secondary characters! Unfortunately, it does have the miscommunication trope that drives me completely insane. I just wish they could have talked to each other like mature adults. However, the author does do an amazing job at making the characters feel so real and relatable and you cannot help but root for them. Once I started reading I could not stop until I finished it! This is my first read by Erin Hahn and it will not be my last! Now I want to go back and read her other books. 🥰🥰
Lorelai Jones, the female main lead, is the sweetheart of country music and seems to have it all. When she decides to perform a political song at a concert, her entire future is ruined. The only person who is there for her is Craig Huckleberry Boseman"Huck" and they spend one night together before she disappears to start her life over. Five years later, Lorelai is attempting her music career again with her long time best friend Huck supporting her. Presently, they are spending a lot of time together in the studio and living in really close proximity. Huck has always been in love with Lorelai but can he keep his true feelings about her to himself? Does Lorelai only see him as a good friend or could there possibly be more? Friends don't fall in love or do they?
Overall, I throughly enjoyed this swoon-worthy love story that has a HEA. If you love a sweet friends to lovers trope, guy falls first and country music then this book is for you!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARC of Friends Don’t Fall in Love. I’m sharing my review voluntarily.
This is such a sweet love story! I connected with the characters immediately and was rooting for them. I prefer a friends to lovers story any day as the friendship builds intimacy and connection in a meaningful, believable way. Erin Hahn made the absolute most of this trope!
This is the second in a series but can definitely read as stand alone. I preferred this story, though I loved both.
The one semi-frustrating element of this book for me was the lack of communication which fed most of the drama. Craig was an olympic-level jumper to conclusions which just fed the angst. I know that’s standard for FTL but it felt heavier than some, in this story.
This is such a fun, well done read and I recommend it for anyone with a soft spot for FTL and/or who enjoys a music scene setting.
I don’t read a ton of adult romance and am not especially interested in country music, but this book made me want to move to Nashville and fall in love.
Lorelei is a country music star who was forced out of the industry after singing a protest song about gun violence. Craig is her ex-fiancé’s former bandmate and now a music producer who’s always been in love with her from afar. They’re just friends—he’s the only one who was there for her when everyone else turned their backs—and now he’s ready to help resuscitate her career. The only issue is they’re both incredibly attracted to one another, but don’t want to ruin the friendship, or their careers.
I loved this story. Friends to lovers will always be one of my favorite tropes and the struggle of not wanting to mess up a friendship felt so real. And despite it not being my scene, I really loved the setting and all the music industry details. I’ll definitely be reading more Erin Hahn in the future!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read this book. I enjoyed this friends to lovers romance! I found Lorelai and Huck’s relationship so sweet! Honestly the miscommunication was so frustrating but it made it that much better when they finally got their happy ending! I do wish I was more invested in the characters and storyline but this was still a cute romance.
I really, really enjoyed this book. I loved Built to Last (the previous book in this series) and so I knew I would like this one. You don't need to have read Built to Last to enjoy this one but it definitely makes the story even more enjoyable.
Lorelei and Craig are great main characters and the story about coming back into fame after a "fall from grace" makes an interesting story.
Erin Hahn writes excellent romance stories that appeal to a wide range of readers. Friends Don't Fall in Love is a sweet book about a fallen country star (big Taylor Swift theme) who falls for her ex-fiancee's best friend (and her long time friend/crush). Lorelai and Craig have so much chemistry and a real loving friendship. I didn't realize that this was a second book in the series and I loved seeing glimpses of the other Built to Last characters again. As with most romances, there comes a point in the story where you just want to scream at the characters to own up to their feelings and tell each other what they want. The tension is great and keeps going until the satisfying ending. This is a great romance, especially for music lovers (the inclusion of the song "Ohio" was so perfect). Thank you to Erin Hahn, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Friends Don’t Fall in Love is yummy, yummy goodness from start to finished. It has heart, heat and the necessary HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Absolutely loved this book. From the writing to the story to the unfolding drama, everything was great. Whenever I read books like this I wonder if it is about someone famous. I loved the song referenced throughout the book and did some Spotify search myself for some I did not know. Great read.
I really enjoyed reading Erin Hahn's latest book, Friends Don't Fall in Love. I thought the characters were very well developed, and the friends to romance dynamic was realistic and not done in a cringy way.
Along with the romance, I really enjoyed the story of Lorelai, who briefly had a career in the music industry before returning to a career in teaching. She was extremely likable, and I rooted for her growing confidence and bravery throughout the book.
I would definitely recommend this book to friends and family who enjoy music and romance. A huge thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I adored the first book in this series and loved Friends Don't Fall in Love even more. Craig and Lorelai's relationship sparks right from the beginning. Erin writes fantastic and believable friends-to-lovers romances. Lorelai was one of my favorite characters when she featured as Shelby's best friend side character in the first book and I am so glad she got her own story. I was instantly hooked on her struggles to fit into the Nashville/country scene while still standing up for what she believes in. I adore Erin's writing and can't wait to see where she takes us next.
Thank you so much to St. Martin's and Netgalley for providing me with an e-arc of this wonderful book.
This was such a cute book - and it was so close to being a five star read for me. The thing that held me back was that I wanted both of the main characters to get out of their own way and just admit their feelings for one another. Outside of that, I couldn't recommend this book enough.
One very prominent topic in this book is the topic of gun control and violence, especially in schools, and it is a topic that deeply resonates with me. I work in education, I have gone through active shooter drills - as well as a very real lockdown that ended up being just a precaution. They're terrifying and it breaks my heart that our students have to live in this world, and have this be their normal. I thought the way that Erin addressed this in her book was perfect, and well written.
Huck was dreamy, and I loved how in love he was with Lorelai. Lorelai was a spitfire, even if she was her own worst enemy at times, and I appreciated that she really did remain true to herself. The country singer/song references throughout the book made me smile as country music is one of my favorite genres.
As I mentioned above, I would recommend this book hands down!
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me the chance to review this ARC in exchange for my honest review. It was truly a pleasure.
Fun and sweet rom com, like the characters , the story and how it develops, and the way it was written , easy read and relatable.
Friends don't fall in love is definitely not true in this book. Thank you to netgalley for allowing me an advanced copy. Love between friends can be anything from family love to friends with benefits. This book is about best friends who love to work together writing and making music but things change when Lorelai leaves country music in disgrace many years prior. This book is about all the ins and outs of trying to move from friends to family's and all the obstacles that come there way. From other friends to ex's that interfere and make then question their relationship. Can their love survive?
I’m not an avid romance reader but I do enjoy them occasionally as a palette cleanser. This one was really fun. I didn’t find it at all cringy. I loved Craig and Lorelai’s friendship. I enjoy friends to lovers trope but I also get a little frustrated. I just want to scream “TELL THEM YOU LOVE THEM ALREADY” 😂💀 The banter between the two was entertaining. I really liked the country music / music industry aspect of it all. That part kept my attention and made it unique in my opinion. I appreciated the awareness the author brought to the book about Celicac disease. I think the cover could have been better. I feel like it mis represents the book a little bit. I would recommend not judging this one by its cover. This was my first book by Erin Hahn and I would definitely read another for a light read with a little bit of spice. Thank you to the publisher for this ARC!

I’m obsessed with this book. Lorelai Jones is a blacklisted country music star making her comeback and Craig Huckleberry Boseman is her best friend, former fiancé’s ex-bandmate, and he’s been in love with her for years. As they reunite for her comeback, they also have to grapple with what friends Do and Don’t Do and what they both really want.
Each of these MCs is so genuinely likable! Even without the romance aspect I’d have been rooting for their success. The storyline of Lorelai trying to balance standing by what she believes in and what’s expected of her as a country star, Craig trying to own his own talent, their tension as they balanced working together and falling for each other? It all worked so well! The conflict is believable and in character and only adds to the storyline. Solid 4.5 star read and I’ll definitely be recommending this to all my friends!
I was so excited when I started this one and realized it has characters from Built to Last (because somehow I didn't know this already!)
I LOVED built to last, we're talking one of my fave romances!
While I thoroughly enjoyed Friends Don't Fall In Love and watching Lorelei and Craigs romance unfold, I found their chemistry to be a little lack-luster.
There is some heavy content regarding school shootings, but it to me felt like a strange subplot (being concerned about being cancelled for speaking out against violence in schools in this day and age seems unlikely and not with the times).
Overall, kind of cute but didn't enjoy it as much as Built to Last.
Predictable… yes. But was it exactly what I wanted.. yes. I always pick up an Erin Hahn book when I just want a fun romance, This hit the spot.
Country singer Lorelai made an impulsive but honest error in judgment that prematurely ended her career and her love life, but like the true passionate person she is, she is not done with singing. She makes her return to the profession through her former bandmate and friend Craig and together they embark on resurrecting her career. Working together they grow even closer and things happen, then throw in unrequited feelings and the return of a past love with ulterior motives and you have a story worth reading. The timelines kind of jumped around a bit and took some discerning to follow , but the plot made the story progress well .I appreciate this ARC and recommend it without reservations.
This was a cute story. I really enjoyed the friends to lovers element. I don't think this was my favorite Erin Hahn story, but I will continue to be on the lookout for her books.
"Friends Don't Fall in Love" served as my introduction to Erin Hahn's writing, and let me tell you, it won't be my last! I was immediately captivated by the story of Loreli and Craig, affectionately known as Huck. Their journey had me cheering for them right from the start, and Hahn's skillful storytelling made it impossible to put the book down.
One of the standout aspects of this novel is the depth and intricacy of Loreli and Huck's backstories. Erin Hahn beautifully weaves their pasts into the narrative, providing the characters with rich backgrounds that felt genuine and organic. There was no sense of the author forcing the details; instead, they flowed naturally, adding layers of complexity to the characters and their relationship.
The dual perspective writing in "Friends Don't Fall in Love" was executed brilliantly. Hahn effortlessly transitions between Loreli's and Huck's voices, allowing readers to experience the story from both perspectives. This added depth and nuance to the narrative, as we could delve into the thoughts, emotions, and motivations of both characters. It was a real treat to see the story unfold from multiple angles.
Erin Hahn's writing style is engaging and heartfelt. She has a way of drawing readers in and making them invest emotionally in the characters' lives. The chemistry between Loreli and Huck is palpable, and their interactions are filled with authentic dialogue and genuine moments of connection. Hahn skillfully balances tender moments with moments of tension and longing, creating a captivating and realistic portrayal of a blossoming romance.
"Friends Don't Fall in Love" is a remarkable book that will leave readers wanting more. Erin Hahn's ability to create relatable characters with intricate backstories and her adeptness at dual-perspective writing is truly commendable. If this is just the beginning of your journey with Hahn's books, I can assure you that you're in for a treat. Get ready to dive into her other works and indulge in the magic of her storytelling.
This should be an insta-buy for everyone in October.
