This book was so fun! This was the first book I've read from this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was different from anything I've read recently and really captured my attention. It was so well written and the characters were fantastic.
Despite the two main characters being country music stars, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Lorelai is attempting to move on from her ex-fiancé and get her career back after making a political statement at a concert a la The Chicks. Craig (who's name took me a while to get on board with) is a music producer taking back his writing and getting out of the shadow of his previous collaborator aka Lorelai's ex-fiancé. I really enjoyed the dynamics of their friends to lovers story with the added stakes of having successful music careers. There's definitely some miscommunication as a plot driver, but overall I thought this was a really good story that sucked me in and had me rooting for them.
This was absolutely too cute. The beginning was slightly confusing, but it had a great hook and took off after the first few chapters. I do tend to enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope when one is secretly in love with the other the whole time, and this was no exception. I especially appreciated that their relationship felt very natural - they sort of "fell in" to the whole relationship/feelings aspect, and it ebbed and flowed perfectly. It wasn't rushed, and it wasn't an insta-love situation, but they genuinely cared and loved each other as friends, and it evolved from there. (For Lorelai; Craig [Huck] liked her the whole time.)
There are several references to what I'm assuming is another book Hahn wrote. This can be read as a standalone, but there were several callbacks that would only be appreciated by one who has the context of the situation, and not someone like me, who had no clue who or what was going on with that. I would be more than happy to look into Hahn's other books, but it also has been (only slightly) spoiled for me.
I loved this book. It wasn't as steamy as I'd prepared for, but it still had decent spicy scenes. And I still want to know what happens with Lorelai's ex and if Huck gets the credit for his songs.
thank you Netgalley for the free copy
Erin Hahn is back with a new adult novel that is spicy and tugs on your heartstrings. Lorelai Jones is making her comeback into country music but needs all the help she can get after her disastrous downfall years ago. Her good friend and music producer Craig quickly becomes much, much more after a one night stand years ago becomes something more in the present. As the two navigate the friends with benefits cliché they find themselves falling for each other and finding ways to help the country music world see stars. This book is a quick, fast read for those who need an escape. When I say spicy, I mean this book is spicy. I would have liked to have seen Hahn push her writing skills more and develop Lorelai's character. I wanted more depth and insight into the complex person that is Lorelai.
3.5 ⭐ I really liked the main characters in this story. I thought they were written well and I liked having the dual POVs so I could really understand how they were both thinking along the way. It was a back-and-forth slow burn and there were times I did wish it could be sped up a little. The amount of detail for each of the characters' lives and backstories really helped with the understanding. Overall this was a very cute slow-burn romance and I would love to see a second book following another character we met in this story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Erin Hahn for this ARC read in exchange for an honest review.
This is a sweet romance about two people looking for redemption after standing up for their principles and getting cancelled. As far as the plot goes, it’s a fairly typical not wanting to risk it all romance. My only complaint comes at the end when Lorelei suddenly realizes she’s been in love with Huck all along, when this wasn’t addressed anywhere else in the book and as far as the reader knows they only really connected a couple years prior. This is the author’s second foray into adult books from YA and is an improvement on the believability of her characters as fully developed adult characters.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
I REALLY loved this book, more than I expected. It’s not groundbreaking by any means, but it is GOOD. The pacing and the intertwining story lines are done really well and I absolutely fell in love with the main characters.
This is a perfect romance read!
delightful! sexy! mature! featuring all your favorites from you'd be mine! the triumphant return of trina!! erin hahn's YA characters are so sweet, and her adults are so strong. this is a great story about two people whose second chance with each other is totally worth the wait. it weaves in both the morals and the reality of what it means to speak out in an unforgiving environment, and the strength that friends, colleagues, and loved ones can bring to facing those challenges.
many thanks to st. martins press and netgalley for the e-arc!!!
This book will is one of those 'cozy warm feeling' reads. The characters are great and they are likable. I feel like they the development was well done. This is definitely a friends-to-lovers trope, so highly recommend if that is your vibe. This does touch on some current hot topics in society and I feel like that was portrayed in well-planned manner. Definitely would recommend!
4/5 stars
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!
Friends Don’t Fall in Love is the second Erin Hahn book I’ve read, which I started just after Built to Last. Both books are smashing successes. I loved that Hahn carried characters from Built to Last to Friends Don’t Fall in Love and it felt like one continuous story! Lorelai was a superstar with an amazing career in music and a superstar fiancee, but one tremorous song later, it all came crashing down. After disappearing up north for years, Lorelai returns to Nashville and asks for help from the one person that’s never let her down, Craig. Craig used to be the backup boy for her ex-fiance, but now he’s a breakout producer with his own indie label and he’s determined to help Lorelai find her way back to success. Lorelai and Craig need each other for the success of her music, but there’s more than business involved in their relationship. I adore watching their friends to lovers romance bloom and adore Hahn’s writing style. If witty romantic comedies are your style, Friends Don’t Fall in Love is perfect!
A sincere thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love an interconnected standalone romance and Friends Don't Fall in Love brings back characters from Hahn's Built to Last and You'd Be Mine to help guide Lorelai and Craig (aka Huck) to fall in love. Told in dual perspectives, Friends Don't Fall in Love literally has me laughing out loud by chapter one. While it does take a little bit to get into and understand the timeline after the introductory flashback, eventually the pacing settles and readers can appreciate Hahn's compelling writing and storytelling. Honestly, I was so into this read and could barely put it down, TBH.
I absolutely loved this book. Erin has created an incredibly engaging and compelling friends-to-lovers story right alongside a story of taking back your story and making your life what you want it to be.
Lorelai and Craig are such great characters. Seeing Lorelai deal with the memories and implications of what she'd done in the past while coming to terms with how what she wanted was the opposite of what others thought she should do was so great to read. This story line, outside of the love story here but so integral to her life, was compelling and moving. Being of an age where I vividly remember the fallout The Chicks experiences in the early 2000s, Lorelai's struggles felt so real and honest to what one might experience in real life. Watching her process this alongside learning it's ok to love someone again and to admit her feelings for Craig was such a perfect compliment of a story.
And Craig! Goodness this man is the perfect book boyfriend. He's so sweet and caring and so willing to put what he wants aside to do what he thinks is best for Lorelai. The fact that he's loved her for so long but kept that to himself because he thinks it's the best thing for her just says so much about him. Add in how hard working he is, what a great friend and brother/uncle he continually shows himself to be, and, of course, the poetry and he's just a wonderfully well-rounded character.
I was honestly scared to read this book because I was afraid it would be super cheesy but I was actually so pleasantly surprised with it. I’d give this book an overall 4.5 stars because was really good and has left me feeling so warm and fuzzy inside.
Lorelai and Craig are such great characters and I loved that I got to read from both of their perspectives. Craig seems like an absolute dream (evidenced by the fact that I started to actually not hate the name Craig at the end of this story even though Huck is way better).
This was a very sexy friends to lovers story that you could make an absolutely BANGIN country classics playlist from all the songs mentioned with. I wish this is a book I could immediately go and watch a corresponding movie immediately after finishing it. My only major qualm is with the use of the word cunnilingus but that’s just my own personal dislike of that word, not the authors fault.
Also as someone in the education world, the political commentary about gun violence in schools and college campuses, and the difference in opinions that the overall country music industry holds versus educators was incredible and just made me root for Lorelai even harder.
Definitely check this book out when it’s released in October
ARC from NetGalley and St Martins Press
Thank you for allowing me to read this ARC! I really enjoyed the songwriting and music world that was displayed in this book. The characters were thoughtful and I love how she is a former teacher. The teacher facts were all very true and I liked that angle.
I wish the couple would have more tension and moments in the friendship stage. It felt like they should just be together.
Overall, I enjoyed it and the steamy scenes were really good! I would be interested to listen to this on audio.
Erin Hahn does it again! I loved this one as much as all of her other work I’ve had the pleasure to read. Huck+Lorelei ♥️
I loved Lorelei and Craig! I'm not a country music fan, but I also enjoyed the Nashville setting (I live a few hours south and have visited on several occasions). I felt like it was a sweet, and fairly mature story. No silly miscommunications.
Cute and steamy.
This was the right book at the right time for me. Set in Nashville, we meet Lorelei and Huck/Craig.
This trope isn’t my favorite, because I’m usually like JUST TELL THEM ALREADY. But, Hahn does a great job making you love the characters and subsequently cheering for them both. The development to their characters was well done and I enjoyed watching them.
Huck is a dream of a man.
I loved all the other characters and small side stories, too.
Definitely pick this one up when it comes out this fall.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin Press for the ARC.
A heartwarming, sexy story about characters who won't settle. Steamy, and so so sweet. An absolute delight. Can't wait to see what Erin Hahn has in store for us next
Okay, so I knew it! I knew I was going to fall madly, deeply in love with this book.
And I did. Which doesn’t surprise me. Because she can write no wrong!
Friends Don't Fall in Love by Erin Hahn was an incredible read.
A beautiful friends-to-lovers, set in the beauty of Nashville.
So our characters Lorelai and Craig. What can I say other than they stole my heart.
They are just so relatable and lovable. The banter, chemistry and emotion was remarkable. It was just so much fun.
Again Erin Hahn has created a very well written story with country singers, heart and story that is utterly amazing.
A sweet, charming and honest story.
I will officially read and love anything Hahn writes.
PS, if you haven’t read her previous titles yet…. You should. Like now!
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I liked it but didn’t love it, and i feel like that’s bc it’s directed at a different audience, i’m not american and don’t know anything abt the country music industry and even tho the author does a good job at explaining this world I found myself not entertained by it.
the yearning and pining for each other was the best part of the book as well as the spicy scenes if you’re looking for a cliche and easy romance read this book has it
