Hugh is instantly smitten with Louisa. Louisa, though a cousin, is connected to the Winterbournes with all their scandal. It will take an uphill struggle for Hugh to finally win her heart. Loved it.

The Major and the Spinster

Hugh had a tough time with love. Could he finally have found the right one in Louisa? She had given up on love. At one and thirty, she was firmly on the shelf. Could she have found the right one in the major? Could she have discovered the family she had been seeking, too? That family might have been hers if finding letters full of scandal had not upset her plans. Could her new family come to accept her after the scandal she unearthed?

This is an entertaining story about two people who discover each other after they think their ship on the way to love might have sailed without them. Little do they know that it is never too late to fall in love. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to lovers of Regency romance.

Ms Sookoo is always on my list of TBR and I never hesitate to pick up one of her books. I always know I will become fully immersed in the story and the characters, and this book was no different. It is part of the Willful Winterbournes series and is an absolute delight. Louisa is a distant cousin of the Winterbournes. After her parents' death, she finds a family and home with them. While staying with them, she stumbles across a scandalous secret that could change their lives. Hugh is a confirmed bachelor, and he rather prefers it that way. His sister, however, has other ideas and is forever trying to get him to attend balls and such. Little does she know that he has suffered a heartbreak. When Hugh comes across Louisa in the park, there is definitely a connection and the sparks are strong. He became very protective of her and also stood by her side when the secret was revealed to her family.
This was a romantic story, with intrigue and drama, and I found it to be a very enjoyable read. Hugh and Louisa were a wonderful pair, and I enjoyed following their journey. A lovely addition to the Winterbourne series!

Hugh is the Knight and Shining Armor to Louisa as she struggles through the ordeal of her extended family. The story is most intriguing to the secrets among two families of the ton. The plot of the story is a background story to the relationship between Hugh and Louisa. In the beginning the plot was motivational, pushing Louisa along in the story. Sometime at the middle of the story the plot sort of faded away. The focus was then made solely on the relationship between Hugh and Louisa. The characters all were very well written. The characters passion and emotions are shared through the detailed wording in the book. The romance was a quick development between the two and stretched throughout the book. I liked that the romance was between a Major and a young lady who had no affiliation to the Ton.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this novella and this is my freely given opinion.

This is about a couple of secondary characters in the Winterbourne world. Major Hugh Pritchard was the best friend who was caught in between the spousal misunderstanding and angst of Gilbert Winterbourne, and his wife Madelene, in Courting Lady Yeardley (book 3). He has been unlucky in love, and lonely, with a managing sister and mother. Louisa Atherby is a spinster cousin of the Winterbournes who had travelled with her adventuring parents before losing them in a horrific accident, and is now also lonely and seeking a connection with her family.

This story was a rather sweet romance of two lonely, older people, but it felt like more of a bridge story as there was also quite an interesting revelation about the Winterbournes that is exposed by Louisa in the story that will greatly affect the Winterbourne world, which I presume will be expanded upon in the future. So I kind of felt that this novella was being used as a tool and Hugh and Louisa's relationship took a background to this, especially considering the ending felt like a to-be continued (of the revelation, versus Hugh and Louisa's story).

On saying that, it was nice to see a HEA for Hugh as I felt he was a bit of a hanging string from book 3 and felt sorry for him.

3.25 stars out of 5

This absolutely would not be read on it's own I feel; it ties in too much with preceding (and likely future) and again feels like a bridge story.

In Teasing Miss Atherby by Sandra Sookoo, the lead lady, Louisa is the daughter of a pair of, now deceased, archeologists, who were killed in a cave-in in an Egyptian tomb. She is staying at the home of a cousin, one she doesn’t really know, but wants to. While staying at this home she agrees to assist in cleaning out some furniture that needs to be moved to another room and comes across some letters that indicate that the late earl had engaged in an affair with the lady next door, and was, indeed, the father of her children. Did they know? Should she share the letters? What a quandary. An illegitimate child was now the Marquess of Grantley! Major Hugh Pritchard was a confirmed bachelor. He liked things as they were. His sister didn’t see it that way and was constantly trying to find a match for him. She didn’t know his heart had already been broken. Louisa loved to walk and was doing that very thing when she ran into Major Pritchard. Both enjoyed the meeting.

This was a very intriguing plot with several twists that couldn’t be seen coming. One of course, was Louisa’s dilemma with the letters she’d found, but there were others. It was a totally entertaining story as well as a romance between two very likable characters, who were very well written. It was a very entertaining story, which is not unusual for Sookoo who always writes something worth reading.

This lighthearted romance brings Miss Louisa Atherby and Major Hugh Pritchard together, both of whom have made previous appearances in this series. Louisa has suffered the devastating loss of her parents and having returned to England she is desperate to find herself part of a family once more. Offering her assistance to her cousins, she discovers a shocking family secret, one that could tear the family apart. Hugh comes upon Louisa in the park as she is mulling over how best to deal with the conundrum and in the process finds himself becoming quite protective of her. Facing her cousins with her findings unleashes a hornet's nest, but fortunately, Hugh is nearby to protect and keep her from falling apart. In the meantime, a lady from Hugh's distant past reappears in his life, thinking to regain his love for her. Hugh has to not only be quite firm with her but also with his family who is siding with her. Despite ups and downs, the novel does come to a sweet conclusion. I received a copy of this romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Ms. Atherby is a winterbourne cousin just settling in the extended family she didn't come to know until now.. As the Winterbournes are set on edge through an unexpected turn of events, Ms Atherby goes a cour.ting. I enjoyed this tale, although for its length it had a little too much steam for my taste but still a good story.
I recieved a free copy so that I might tell you what I honestly think. Hope you enjoyed my review. Now go enjoy the book.

Hugh Prichard wanted to find someone to love to complete his life. He’d had two disappointments but when last the Winterbourne family were together he’d noticed Miss Atherby and had felt familiarity but then she had disappeared.

Finding out she is back in London and coming across her one day, he decides to court her. Louisa’s parents had died in Egypt. Her life while growing up had been travelling so she’d never had time for suitors. Being back in England and getting to know her family made her happy until the day she found some letters which would change the Winterbourne family forever.

When the family went into shock, some blamed Louisa but Hugh stayed by her side and continued to court her.

A wonderful tender love story! Both passed their youthful days but willing to give love a chance!

Miss Louisa Atherby travelled the world with her parents, but since their deaths she is trying to reconnect with the rest of her family.

Major Hugh Pritchard has been very unlucky in love but this time it feels very different.

A steamy historical with characters that are craving the all important connections that family and love can bring. An emotional and fast moving story.

Good fun.

3.5 STARS!!

Teasing Miss Atherby is a fun novella about the orphaned and adrift Louisa and lonely and unlucky-in-love Hugh. Louisa is the personification of the only-child syndrome. She lands into an uncomfortable situation by reading the hidden secret correspondence of a dead man (I would totally do the same). Luckily, Hugh happens along, immediately falls into love with her, and helps her go through this situation. In the middle, they have some pretty awesome sex.

This was an entertaning read, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if I'd read the preceding books.

My thanks to the author, the publishers and NetGalley for the ARC!

They are at the point in their lives where she needs to find the family to belong and he needs something more than what he has achieved at this stage. Meanwhile she has a family conundrum to deal with and he has meddling women who want to plan his life. Together, they are formidable and claim their own HEA. Short and perfectly enjoyable read.

Miss Louisa Atherby is back in London, but she’d rather be flitting about the world, poking into hidden places of mystery, doing something worthwhile. Though she’s a distant cousin, she is part of the Winterbourne family, and since her parents are dead, she yearns for the connection only family can bring. Whilst moving a piece of furniture she finds a hidden compartment & its contents might tear that apart and destroy everything she’s ever wanted. Major Hugh Pritchard has experienced a run of misfortune since the war ended. Thwarted in love, he still wishes to settle down and put a spark back into his existence. He comes across Miss Atherby whilst walking in Hyde Park & he realises he had felt a connection to her when they first met the previous year. So he sets forth to possibly win her heart. While Louisa is against marriage and the restrictions it will bring, she’s willing to let Hugh court her & see where things go.
A well written quick read, I really liked both Hugh & Louisa both were mature & in their thirties & both ripe for falling in love. I loved the chemistry between them & I felt they first fell in lust but then became friends & were certainly heading towards love. I would have loved an epilogue to see where their relationship went & how it developed. In some ways I felt that this was a bridging novella between two branches of the Winterbourne family & was the introduction to the second branch. I thoroughly enjoyed the book & read it in a sitting but it left me wanting more
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I always love books that are written of the olden days.
How they lived and dressed was so wonderful.
Everything described about landscapes and how they farmed. so beautiful.
