Moving to Lake Tahoe is a dream for Harper Shaw. She plans to open a bakery and when she arrives it's snowing in July! She meets Bodie Campbell the first night when she silds into town. Harper is renting the building next to his bar and him and his brothers own the property. Harper has been dumped by her longtime boyfriend and her father is busy with his new family. Harper's mother would bring her to the area each summer for camping; but when she died that stopped.
Bodie is ATF and is recuperating from a shot out that his partner was killed in. Ivy is a runaway and shows up at Harper's door seeking shelter from the storm and Harper asked her to stay and gives her a job. Ivy is looking from her dad who she knows lives in town. Bodie and Harper are attracted to each other; but don't want a relationship.
Loved the story line and getting to know the Campbell family in this book.
The Sweetheart List is the perfect summer beach read (it does take place in Lake Tahoe, after all, which is the perfect vacation setting). It is sweet and light, but interesting enough to hold the reader's attention. It's a quick read, also, which will leave the reader feeling content and happy when it wraps up. If you're looking for a book full of deep thoughts and angst, this one isn't it. But, if you're looking for a book that has a few unexpected but not unwelcome twists and turns, that leaves you smiling when you come to the satisfying ending, you'll be glad you picked it up.
This is the story of Harper, Ivy, and Bodie. Harper is starting anew after coming to the conclusion that her life is unfulfilling. The loss of a long-term relationship, no one in her life demanding things of her anymore, and a resolve to try new things and be spontaneous have all led her to a place where she is throwing caution to the wind and upending her life as it's been. She rents a space to open her own bakery with living quarters attached, and heads for the last place she remembers being happy, Lake Tahoe, with her dog riding shotgun, ready for new adventures. What she doesn't expect is a handsome landlord (Brodie) and a teenage runaway (Ivy) to both appear in her life. Bodie was much expected, but Ivy took a place in the story that surprised me. Harper takes her in, and gives her trust and motherly affection, and Bodie ends up caring for Ivy, too, and wanting to help her thrive. No spoiler alerts, but you'll figure out pretty quickly that there's a backstory here that gives the story a satisfying twist. If you are looking for that summer read that gives you all the feels but doesn't weigh you down, pick up The Sweetheart List. You'll be glad you did!
Sparks joy, no lists, a secret for a secret. Harper and Brodie meet on her first night in town. Ivy is a teenager with her own secret. Starting over at its best.
My first Shilvas book, not knowing that this is the 4th in a series, was an amazing heartfelt story. Can not wait to read more from her.
Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published June 2023. I hope to read more from this author.
Another wonderful visit to Sunrise Cove. Terrific characters. Many misty eyes moments. I want to have a burger and fries in the bar and visit the bakery for breakfast treats. Eager for all to have their happily ever after, but not wanting the story to end. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary. I look forward to another visit to Lake Tahoe. Glad it is only vicariously since there was snow in July in the book. Yikes! No snow for me.
A sweet, heartfelt summer about starting over, finding family and second chances--and maybe finding yourself along the way.
This book finds Harper starting over in the last place she felt happy-Tahoe-and opening a bakery. Her new landlord, Bodie, is trying to find himself-and forgive himself-after a horrible experience at work. Ivy is a lost and lonely child looking for someone she has never known. All three of these characters come together in a unique way to help get that fresh start they all crave.
Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This is a well-written rom-com set in Lake Tahoe. The main characters are all in dark places when the story opens. There is Harper moving to start her dream business and get a fresh start after a bad breakup. Bodie is home after being almost killed while working a case as a DEA agent and then there is Ivy - a teenage runaway searching for a father she's never met. They are interesting and well-developed and it is fun as a reader to see them all learn trust and to love again. It is a little bit predictable and some of the plot lines are a little forced, but other than that this is a great summer read.
This is the fourth book in the series and the best one! I read this book in less then 24 hours. The main theme is trust and how hard it can be to trust another person. I enjoyed reading all the characters especially Ivy the teen that doesn’t trust adults.
********I received an ARC for my honest opinion from NetGalley.*********
I've fairly new to Jill Shalvis but am becoming a fan. The Sweetheart List is just the kind of sweet, fun read that makes her a new favorite.
Harper is so sweet, no pun intended since she's a baker, but she's hadn't had good, loving relationships since her mom died. She's finally decided to seek her own happiness and Sunrise Cove is such a good memory from camping there with her mom. Bodie's not good for love, by his own determination. He's also healing. His body and his mind need to improve. Coming home to his family is good for him even when he won't admit it.
Harper and Bodie's attraction is so strong but so denied by both. Add in Ivy and this little family is coning together long before any of them even realize it. Ivy's a great kid and both Bodie and Harper are soon taken by the young runaway. Shay and Mace are fascinating too.
I loved the characters in this story. Events moved at a nice pace and I wanted to see how it all played out.
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC.
I thought the book was pretty cute. Harper and Bodie had instant chemistry and are an adorable couple. I did feel that the plot was a tad predictable but the story was entertaining so I didn’t mind. There is some romance in the book but the scenes are very light so if you prefer your books spicier you will be disappointed.
Overall it felt like a very solid 3/3.5 stars book. It would make a great beach or weekend read because it reads pretty quick.
Harper is starting a new life in the last place she felt happy. Bodies is recover from being let go of an ATF job. Ivy is looking for her father. These three are destined to meet and have their lives changed. A great read set near Lake Tahoe. The characters are well written and the dog often steals the scenes. Loved the story and the resolution of being together.
Harper Shaw’s life has come crashing down. A dedicated list maker, she has been tragically dumped by an unworthy cad, she hates her job and her lists. Trying to find the last place she can remember where she was happy.
Harper’s arrival at Lake Tahoe is nothing as she expected. A hunky guy has the keys to the shop she has leased for her bakery, Sugar Pine Bakery, and he is also kind of her landlord. While the shop isn’t quite ready, Harper is. As she prepares to spend a freezing cold night in an empty storefront with no power, an uninvited guest joins her.
Ivy is a teenage girl looking for a father. Harper sees a lot of herself in Ivy and takes her in. As Ivy gains confidence she also lets a big secret out. And it will change everything in all of their worlds.
Bodie has been through a lot. An injury from the ATF, and a guilty feeling about his dad. He isn’t looking for any type of relationship. He’s pretty messed up.
All three are pretty messed up but willing to work through it and hope for love and a new beginning.
Always a pleasure to read this author.

The Sweetheart List is a starting over, heart strings pulling sweet romance. Harper Shaw moves back to the last place she remembers being happy, Lake Tahoe where her mother took her camping. Dumped by her boyfriend and forgotten by her father, she doesn’t really have anyone but her faithful dog, Hambone. Following her dreams to start a bakery finds her collecting a teenage runaway and falling for her sexy landlord, Bodie. A former DEA agent injured on the job, Bodie is suffering both physically and emotionally as he lost his partner and his father in a short amount of time. Two people with some major trust issues and past hurts fall fast and hard on their way to smile inducing HEA. I love the characters from Bodie’s family and their happy bickering to the cantankerous Shay and her grandmother to the hardheaded Ivy who you just want to hug. The story just lifts your mood and makes you wish for more of the Campbells and the life of Sunrise Cove. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.
A fun and sweet romance. Harper is looking for a fresh start in life and goes to the last place she felt true happiness. She packs up her life and moves to Lake Tahoe to open up her very own bakery. She meets the grumpy local bartender, a teen runaway, and several new friends who make her feel at home. This was a feel good book with many tender moments. It will be a great summer/beach read.
I loved getting to know Harper, Bodie (hate this name) and Ivy. I think it takes a lot of courage to pick up your life and move to the last place you were happy. Bodie is trying his best and his forced starting over. Ivy comes into their lives as a runaway wrecking ball. She completely turns their lives upside down and in the best way. I can't wait to continue this story.
This is book 4 of the Sunrise Cove Series. Harper Shaw realizes that she needs to shed all the things that don't make her happy. That includes the job she hates and going back to the last place that she was happy. She always dreamed of opening a bakery. So, she does. Can she find happiness in the new life that she is building?
Harper and her giant dog Ham move to Sunrise Cove after Harper's old life in California fell apart. Her ex-boyfriend-almost-fiancé dumped her, her job was toxic and she realized she was stressed, anxious, and enjoyed nothing about her life. So she made the incredible brave decision to pack everything up and move the last place she remembers being happy: Sunrise Cove, near Lake Tahoe. She was 12 at the time, which by itself is heartbreaking. Harper is determined to start over and build her dream of owning and running her own bakery. When she meets runaway teen Ivy, Harper sees a lot of herself in the girl and instantly takes Ivy in, gives her a job, and takes care of her- in spite of Ivy's suspicions. Ivy's had it tough and has come to Sunrise Cove looking for something but finding Harper, then next-door business owners Shay and Bodie also being welcoming, throws her for a loop.
All three of the main characters-Harper, Ivy, and Bodie- are emotionally damaged in different ways and none of them quite know what to do to fix themselves (or if they want to fix anything). Harper believes she isn't loveable and is easy to walk away from, which is as far from reality as possible. Ivy believes everyone is about two seconds from tossing her out. Bodie thinks he's emotionally unavailable in the long haul and shouldn't get close to people- despite having a large family determined to try and help him fight his demons. They've all got reasons for their feelings, Shalvis does a good job of giving backstories and depth to her characters. And watching them each work through their problems and help each other was really great.
This was a book as much about family love as romantic love, about friends and community accepting new people, and people finding their place even when they weren't expecting to. A great read, with all the feels- plus dogs.
I love Jill Shalvis' books and 'The Sweetheart List' is one that won't let fans down- and is a great intro to new readers! It is part of a series, but you can read it as a standalone with no problems.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Sometimes you just need to read a feel good book and this is exactly what this book is. Harper got dumped by her boyfriend a year ago and is now making a decision to move to Lake Tahoe, a place that makes her happy. It was the place she went with her mom growing up. It brings back good memories of her mom who has since passed away. She has rented a place from the Campbell's to be her Sugar Pine Bakery. It is between a bookstore and a tavern. She meets the Campbell brothers who are a compelling group of guys! One of them catches her eyes and her heart. There is a run away teenager she helps out and a brooding bookstore owner her becomes her bestie. The characters are great as you get to know them and the story flows with all of life's possibilities.
Thanks to #netgalley, #harpercollinspublishing and @jillshalvis for an ARC of the delightful book
Sweet, nonspicy beach read for those who want one - think Hallmark movie style. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
The Sweetheart List by Jill Shalvis
This is book 4 in the Sunrise Cove series, but I have not read the first 3 books. I read this book as a standalone and didn't find it to be problematic.
Harper is ready to start over and she decides to uproot her life and move to the lake Tahoe area, as this was the last place that she remembers being truly happy. She sets out to open a bakery and remake her life in this town. In true small town romance fashion, she meets an eligible bachelor who runs the bar next door and the rest is history.
Overall this was a great little romance about starting over. Both Harper and Bodie have had rough pasts, but they come together so naturally. Throw in a teenage runaway daughter and you've got yourself a story. This book reads like a Hallmark movie and I enjoyed reading it.
“ I drove to the last place that I remember being happy”
This is why Harper drives across the country to start over and start her own bakery.
She meets her landlord and all-around hottie Bodie, who may be on leave from his job, or may be retired, something his family doesn’t even know
Then there’s Ivy, the teenage runaway, why is she there ?
I absolutely loved the Campbell family, they were warm, funny, so full of love.
I loved this book, I felt like I was part of the family, Harper and Bodie are truly soulmates !!
