Fresh starts, forgiveness, and family are what is highlighted in The Sweetheart List which is book #4 in the Sunrise Cove series. The series just keeps getting better. Jill Shalvis knows how to deliver a story where the characters are so true to real life along with the setting that it all grabs you and doesn't let go. Harper, Bodie, and Ivy will make you laugh and cry happy tears.
I was always Jill Shavlis' #1 fan when she wrote romance stories, exclusively. Now that she's made her way to women's fiction - I feel that way times 10!!
THE SWEETHEART LIST was a warm cookie topped with chocolate ice cream!
The usual witty and fast dialogue Shalvis is a pro at trips off her character's tongues and hits you square in the chest -- and heart!
Harper Shaw has left everything she's known- which is a lot - a whole lot - of miserableness, to come and settle in the last place she truly felt happy. That was at the age of 12 and right before her mom died of cancer. She's a baker by trade, an angst-driven woman by gender, and possesses a huge heart and an even bigger dog.
Brodie Campbell is also a mess, although his kind of angst relates to an op that went south while he was an ATF agent, filling him with guilt and remorse. He's come home to heal and find purpose in his life again.
When these two meet, things combust. Like, Shalvis-worthy combust.
Two secondary stories that make this more women's fiction than true romance involve a runaway teen looking for her father, and one of Brodie's brothers and the woman he loves.
All combined, this book was so full of the feels that I sighed multiple times from happiness while reading it. The epilogue is the best one I've read in a decade!!
Brava!! thank you netgalley and Avon and of course, Ms. Shalvis, for allowing me a sneak peek at this next bestseller - because it will be!! 5-stars-wish_i-could-give-it-more
Jill Shalvis just gets better and better. I loved Harper, Bodie and Ivy's story and all of the supporting characters too. I shed a few tears of sadness and happiness. I didn't want the book to end, the Sweetheart List should just go on and on.
This came across as more women's fiction than romance. There were so many other relationships that were addressed that the romance part of it fell flat for me. I didn't get much tension between the two main characters and the long lost daughter trope took real estate away from the main relationship
This is a great story with real people dealing with what life throws at them. Bodie and Harper's relationship starts slow and builds in an easy way that is very relatable. Harper's generosity in taking in Ivy, a teenager on a quest, is very sweet and adds dimension to the story. I love how family and friendship are main themes and was very moved by all that happened and very satisfied with the outcome. Having an epilogue to show us a glimpse of the future was extra sweet. Highly recommended for fans of small-town, sweet romance.
This amazing series keeps getting better and better.
I’ve had the best time being in Sunrise Cove with some of the greatest characters ever!
The Sweetheart List is book four in the Sunrise Cove series by Jill Shalvis is a uplifting, stunning and totally unputdownable.
The characters as usual are very well fleshed out, and it was great getting to know them all.
Bodie and Harper were great characters that were well developed and so relatable.
Her characters feel like real people who are dealing with real life issues with real life problems.
She has a way of weaving together a story and making characters come alive for the reader to love.
With heart, humor and likeable characters, The Sweetheart List delivers on every level, and I cannot wait to for this to be out in the world.
Once again Shalvis has created an engaging and entertaining story about second chances. I always looked forward to her stories and this one was exceptional.
If you haven’t started this series I highly encourage you to give it a go.
It’s been such a joy and pleasure being in this cozy, warm, fun loving town called Sunrise Cove!
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You NetGalley and Avon for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
The Sweetheart List is a story written from the heart and one that you cannot put down no matter how hard you try. I don’t know how Jill Shalvis does but she creates these characters that feel real, that make you love them and feel as though you are part of their story. Bodie and Harper’s story is no different.
Harper comes to Sunrise Cove because it is the last place that she remembers being happy, before her mother died. She has been neglected by her father ever since and she doesn’t trust anyone, including her ex, after he dumped her. Now finding her happy place, she will do whatever she needs to do to open her own bakery. What she doesn’t expect is Bodie, or a teenage girl trying to break into her new store.
Ivy has never felt wanted, her mom makes her feel like she is in the way, and she has been gone from her new step-sisters home for over two weeks and it’s like no one even noticed. Harper manages to convince her to stay and starts building trust with her, also promising to pay her for any help that she gives Harper with cleaning or baking. Ivy quickly learns that Harper does what she says and that she can be trusted. Even with her secrets.
Bodie has a lot going on. He is recovering from being shot, everything that happened during his last operation for the ATF, and his attraction to the new renter next door. There is just something about her that he cannot stay away from, and it is not just her delicious cookies. Bodie and his siblings are close, and they are trying to help him the best they can come back from what happened. They realize the chemistry between him and Harper and start razzing him.
Mace and Shay have their own part in the story as well and it is equally as sweet. I love all of these characters and you cannot help but cry at least a few times in this book so be prepared. The relationships that these characters have is some that we all desire our whole lives, whether it is with our own fathers or to find a love that allows you to be yourself. The ability Shalvis has to create such realistic characters and stories, can help heal your heart and show you that you are not alone. I cannot get over the Epilogue of Harper and Bodie’s story, I cannot believe how much they really did come full circle. I keep saying that each new book is my favorite but this one jumped to the top of my list. I hope you love it just as much as I do.
Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review.
Harper Shaw leaves everything she knows behind to return to the last place she remembers being truly happy: Sunrise Cove in Lake Tahoe. She's opening a bakery, and she doesn't need help from anyone, especially not Bodie Campbell, the owner of her new building. But Bodie quickly worms his way into her heart and life, as does runaway teen Ivy. When everyone's secrets and flaws come to life, things kind of implode. Can everyone overcome their first instincts to self destruct?
I love Jill Shalvis - her books never disappoint. The pacing of this one was a little odd - I felt like Harper and Bodie started telling each other secrets REALLY fast, which seemed OOC since they're both so closed off, but love, I guess?? Harper, Bodie, and Ivy were super lovable. Shay maybe not so much, but she did have some cute dialog. Overall, this is a really sweet, fun romance. I would highly recommend.
We always by Jill Shalvis for our library. Our patrons adore her. The Sweetheart list has everything you need for a delightful read, plot, heart, steam, and great cast of characters.
