“Even an open book has pages that can’t be read.”

Have You Seen Her is a gritty thriller that surprised the hell out of me. I went in expecting a lot, and was not let down. There was a tinge of the couple who coined the hashtag #vanlife, so reading this felt like almost delving into true crime. And it also inspired my wanderlust - I need to see Yosemite, and visit all of the landmarks mentioned. The twist at the end was solid and conniving, and I truly loved it.

I did not enjoy this as much as some of McKenzie's other works. To be honest I almost gave up about 25% through. But decided to stick with it. There were too many characters and things got confusing with the back and forth, past and present.

A great thriller! I love stories that have a back and forth plot - getting little tidbits of info that end up surprising you with their actual meaning. While reading this book I figured there was going to be a twist coming but I could have never predicted that ending!! Wow! I really liked the extra journal/ social media posts/ news articles that were scattered throughout the book. I found myself flipping back and forth sometimes to see what someone had said previously and how it all fit together - kind of like playing detective in a way! This book comes out on June 27 and is definitely worth checking out!

I loved this one and found it hard to put down and was always sneaking in pages when I had the chance. I thought I had it all figured out early on and knew how it was going to end but it totally twisted and surprised me! The setting was perfect and the writing had me feeling like I was there with the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, Atria and the author, Catherine McKenzie for an advance digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
Definitely check this one out if you love thrillers with dual timelines and a twisty ending when it comes out on June 27, 2023.

It was a great mystery/thriller with so many twists and turns. I was hooked right at the beginning of the book. The book seemed fairly straight forward until about 3/4 of the way in. I can’t wait to read more from
this author. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC.

I have enjoyed several of Catherine McKenzie’s previous novels and when we are introduced to Cassie she has just left her (abusive?) husband and has covered her tracks with name changes and burner phones and gone back to Yosemite to rejoin the Search and Rescue Team she had worked with when she left college. The chapters where we meet the team members and other people spending extended summer time in the Park we wonder if she’s safe, from treacherous cliffs and text messages she assumes is from her ex. When people start to go missing I wondered where the story was going and although the twist ending was a definite surprise to me I realized I really didn’t believe it.

Loved it. Catherine McKenzie is one of my favorite authors. It started in 2013 when I found Forgotten in the library. Her books never disappoint and there's always some type of twist I never see coming. This book was no exception!!! I never expected what was really happening with the missing people and who was involved. I was shocked when I found out the truth about what was really happening. (I really shouldn't be, because I know there's going to be a huge twist, but I always am.) Catherine McKenzie gets me every time. That's why I love her books. I couldn't wait to find out why Cassie abandoned her life and ran away from her husband. I though Kevin was going to be some horrible, abusive monster, who was watching her and tracking her every move. He ended up not being as evil as I thought. I don't think Cassie realized who the real monster was and that person will probably show up in her life again. I can't believe how much work people put into their schemes. Cassie is really horrible with picking the right people in her like. That probably comes from living with her mom. I probably would have moved that far away if I lived with her. Her mom was so exhausting. I was hooked from the moment I started reading it and didn't want to put the book down. Loved the description of Yosemite.

Definitely recommend the book (and the author's previous books). It was a great mystery/thriller with so many twists and turns. Loved the characters, writing style and story. I would have never guessed what was really going on. Look forward to reading more books by the author, the next book can't come fast enough!!! Loved the cover.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Atria Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really enjoyed reading Have You Seen Her. I liked the setting, it was so different than any book I’ve read before. I found the buildup to be a bit slow, this is why I gave 4 stars. However, I didn't see the twist coming. I found myself rooting for the main character and felt protective of her at the end. Thanks for the read!

Book Title: Have you seen Her
Author: Catherine McKenzie
Publisher: Atria Books
Pages: 352
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: June 27, 2023
My Rating: 3.3 Stars

This is my seventh author, Catherine McKenzie novel. I especially liked both books -"Fractured" as well as Forgotten"!

The setting for this story is the ultra-beautiful Yosemite National Park.
We vacationed there many times. Always a wonderful family time; we stayed both in cabins and once in a tent. With no TV in our lodging we would gathered in the community game room; truly a turn back in time.
I was looking forward to reading this story.

Cassie Peters was born and raised in Mammoth Lakes, California.
Ten years ago Cassie decided that she and her mom needed some distance ~ they just did not get along. Cassie headed off to the hectic world of Manhattan.
However when she saw a Search and Rescue (SAR) position available at Yosemite National Park, she applied. Cassie has SAR experience as that is what she did ten years ago.
She was rehired by her former boss. Cassie knows that she has to prove to herself and to her team that she's capable.
Story is told in two timelines “Then” and “Now”.
I wanted to love this story; I was sure it would bring back wonderful memories with Ms. McKenzie’s descriptions. True descriptions were there but the story became a struggle.
I wanted to find out more about Cassie but it was slow getting to what secrets she was hiding.
The ending was a whirlwind - I found I had to stop and reread to make sure I was getting it all.
Not my favorite Catherine McKenzie but I will read another story by her.

Want to thank NetGalley and Atria Books for granting me this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for June 27, 2023

A story about abuse and manipulation following Cassie, an art gallery curator from New York, who escapes to Yosemite to join their search and rescue team for the summer. It's a job she's worked previously so it gives her familiar comfort, but it's not without painful memories. Without giving too much away, the twist at the end is worthy, although I feel certain reveals should have been obviously implausible to the main character. Perhaps that was meant to show how abuse clouds your thinking.

Due to be released June 27th...I was lucky enough to get an ARC from #Netgalley and having read other books from this author, I was thrilled and happy to read it. Again, McKenzie gets you to hand on to the story of Cassie who escapes an abusive husband. She goes back to what she did before - Search and Rescue in Yosemite....and fits right in. We find her interacting with some of the hikers, visitors and old friends.

But then there is a rescue, somewhat similar to an earlier one Cassie was on many years ago. And this is where the story gets interesting. A page turner until we hit the twist I was not expecting and the story gets even more intense because I truly did not see that one coming. You will not be disappointed in this author...until its release try reading some of her other books as they are great too!

If you're looking for a book that you cannot put down, this is it! Wow! Such a fantastic thriller. As someone who loves to hike, a thriller set deep in the woods of Yosemite is JUST what I needed to read. The story follows Cassie as she works. hard to escape an abusive husband, finding herself on a SAR (search and rescue) team yet again. But secrets have a way of finding themselves out, and Cassie worries she won't stay hidden for long. Highly recommend!

thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub date June 27,2023!

This was a well-paced thriller that really kept me on my toes. It was heavy with details that made everything come together and left just enough suspense at the end that the author has the opportunity to take on a follow up. Taking place in Yosemite amongst a SAR site, the wilderness backdrop really sets the tone and brings in interesting and specific scenarios that I don’t typically come across in my reads.

I was pleasantly surprised when I received this ARC from #netgalley.
Cassie is escaping her present by going back to her past and meeting new friends along the way. I appreciated the past and present aspect of the book, it keeps you hooked.
I wasn't expecting the twist at the end, Have You Seen Her keeps you guessing and wondering what the connection is until the VERY end.

3.5/5 ⭐️
I liked it! I’m giving it 3.5 stars out of five (rounding up) It took me some time to get into this one. The timeline between then & now was a little confusing at first.
We follow Cassie Peters as she runs away from her current life and an abusive husband. She decides to disappear to an old job working for Search and Rescue in Yosemite that she had a decade prior. When a couple goes missing in the park, it’s all to similar to what happened last time she was here. Is is related, or is there more to the story this time around?
The plot twist, it didn’t shock me, I had an idea this is where it was headed. Overall, the book was good, entertaining and mysterious.

Have You Seen Her was a solid 4 stars. It was a fantastic story that kept you guessing. It was well written and the non linear timeline was easy to follow. Loved learning more about Yosemite and it made a perfect setting for the story.

I was really excited when I was approved for this. I loved the premise but the story moved a little too slow for me. It took a long time for things to start happening and everything was finally revealed at the end. I liked it but I would have liked a faster pace. The rock climbing sections were interesting.

This is one of my favorite authors, and this book was one wild ride from beginning to end… I think this is her best book to date!

Have You Seen Her by Catherine McKenzie is a fast-paced thriller that takes place in Yosemite. In an effort to escape her abusive husband, Cassie flees her old life to join the park’s search-and-rescue (SAR) team, a job she once had years ago. Things start to get suspicious when a couple goes missing and the case is eerily similar to one she dealt with years before—plus, we learn that Cassie has some secrets of her own.

I really enjoyed this book! The national park setting was cool to read about and I enjoyed learning about the day-in-the-life of a SAR team. I love a thriller where you never know who to trust - this is one of those! I did think that the dual timeline was a little tricky at first, but eventually smoothed itself out. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves both the great outdoors and a good thriller.

I’m so excited to be reviewing my first advanced copy - thank you NetGalley and Atria Books!
