Thank you NetGalley and Atria books for the opportunity to get my hands on an Advance copy of this intriguing story. From the first chapter, I couldn’t wait to see how Cassie’s story would unfold. The story kept me wanting more and it was hard to put the book down at times. I did not see the twist coming at the end.
WOW what a great book.
Meet Cassie! She has returned to Yosemite Park where she first cut her teeth mountain climbing and park rangering. She is running from a marriage but not willing to fill in her colleagues on the details.
The summer goes well until a couple goes missing and Cassie and her team need to locate them before it is too late. The disappearance is frighteningly similar to a traumatic death of Cassie's friends many years ago.
Be ready for exciting characters, thrilling events and twists you will never see coming ! #HaveyouseenHer
I’m a big Catherine McKenzie fan and I really liked this book setting it among SARs in a national park was so interesting and I just loved all the details about the settings. I liked all three main female characters and especially the twists with all of them. It was very good and I wanted to keep reading.
Cassie is running from a good life in New York and a husband. She does not want to be found. She decides to go to a job at Yosemite in a rescue team. She worked there ten years ago and experienced a mysterious loss of a friend who was lost in the park with her boyfriend. Enter new friends at Yosemite both of which with mysterious lives. Petal a young 23 year old with her 53 year old girlfriend Sandy. Sandy has money and Petal does a bunch of journaling. And then there is Jada and her boyfriend Jim. They are journaling an off the map but on social media tracking of their journey. Things for both couples are off with fights and mysterious pasts. And then Jada goes missing. And then Petal does. What is going on? I don’t want to ruin the “secret” where it all plays out. Oh and Cassie’s hubby shows up too.
Everything looks more in focus from a higher elevation.
Cassie Peters has viewed the world from the hectic streets of Manhattan to the wooded trails of Yosemite National Park. Let's just say that she's burned her bridges in Manhattan and is headed back to what she knows best.
Cassie was born and raised in Mammoth Lakes, California. But she left abruptly ten years ago. She and her mother were like oil and water and distance seemed to work well for them both. When a job opening was evident in the Yosemite SAR (Search and Rescue), Cassie took the chance. It was what she did ten years ago. She was rehired by her former boss. Cassie knows that she has to prove to herself and to her team that she's capable once again.
Carrying the weight of a former incident, Cassie throws herself into what's expected in the
SAR. She meshes well with her new team mates. But when a couple goes missing on what was to be a five day hike, it brings the suffocating realization that history is repeating itself. Can Cassie possibly hold it together as they search for these individuals?
Add to all this, someone from Manhattan is searching for Cassie even after she fogged up her trail from New York. And that person is hell bent on finding her.
Catherine McKenzie writes high tension novels. She does it again in Have You Seen Her. I've read so many of them. Initially, the format was a bit confusing. There are many characters to keep track of. There is also the timeline of "Then" and "Now" which flips back and forth. Added to this is some journal writing by one of the characters and texts from a social media site. But as you ease in, it does find its niche in the scheme of things.
It's up to you as to whether or not the ending crescendo draws it altogether. for you. McKenzie does a little shock-a-roo here intentionally. There's breadcrumbs still left on the trail. And certainly then by McKenzie's own design........
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks to Atria Books and to Catherine McKenzie for the opportunity.
Oh. My. Goodness.
What a thrilling read and WHAT A TWIST.!
This book will suck you in and not let you go until you have finished the very last page: I read it in one fell swoop and kept thinking of poor Gabby Petito whose story was loosely the basis of this novel. The story was expertly crafted and the book is utterly readable.
Take it to the beach, the porch or the backyard..you won't regret a single penny spent on the book or the wait to get it out of the library.

"Have You Seen Her" is a bit of a slow-burn. It takes a while to learn who the characters are and become invested in them, but toward the end, suspense builds and the ending is satisfying. Recommended for those who appreciate the outdoors, particularly SAR, and mysteries/suspense. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for my honest feedback.
Overall I felt pretty “meh” about this novel. I was intrigued with the first quarter of the book, but there was too much about SAR and details about climbing that I wasn’t very interested in. I was definitely surprised by the ending twist, however, so it finished pretty strong. 3.5 stars.
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
