Obsessed? What caused Josie to be so obsessed with Alix?

Was it need or another plan?

Josie and Alix met at the celebration of their forty-fifth birthday parties and became fast friends.

Or did Josie and Alex both just think they were friends?

Alix creates podcasts and decides to start a new series with birthday twins as the new topic with her “new” friend as the focus.

Things get weird - Josie takes things from Alix's home, stalks her, and stops by Alix's home when she isn't there.

One evening Josie also shows up at Alix’s house with a bloody lip and swollen face. She said her husband beat her up.

Another way to get into Alix’s life?

NONE OF THIS IS TRUE is told in alternating chapters and tells of the lives of both women. Which one has the most bizarre life?

It was a bit difficult to get into this one, but it did keep your interest and made you certain there was an undercurrent of bad things going on.

Lisa Jewell fans will enjoy her newest.

What a wrap up!! 4/5

This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.

Move over, Verity, we have a new book to dissect and discuss…

None of This is True will leave you questioning everything you read while at the same time, immediately wanting to re-read it for little missed details. And with a genius title, I should have anticipated this.

Best Lisa Jewell book yet.

It's been a minute since I've read a Lisa Jewell book and I'm glad that I gave this one a whirl. Alix is out enjoying her 45th birthday celebration with her husband when she runs into Josie, who also is celebrating her 45th birthday. Then Josie appears outside Alix's children's school and proposes sharing her story as part of one of Alix's podcasts. Josie and Alix couldn't be more different from each other, yet Josie convinces Alix that she has a good story to tell. Along the way Josie continues to insert herself into Alix's life and slowly builds her story to a terrifying crescendo. What started as a story of an innocent teenager getting involved with an older man who becomes her husband turns into a story of abuse and control that leaves Alix concerned but skeptical of Josie.

I enjoyed the story format the author used for Josie to share her story, and the look back via podcast/Netflix episodes that described what was happening and that also slowly revealed hidden pieces of the story. The author takes the reader in one direction fully immersed in what Josie is sharing before taking a sharp left turn that leaves the reader wondering what is real and what isn't. Alix is also an interesting character in that while she's interviewing Josie, she also has her own family drama that she is working through that impacts her storytelling, and her thoughts on what Josie has been sharing.

This definitely has a lot of twists and turns and a surprise ending that you would expect with a thriller. Thank you to Atria Books for the opportunity to read and review.

Not sure about this one. It held my interest and was fast paced. But the pedophilia aspects were hard to sort through. The insinuation at times that we were supposed to feel any sympathy at all for that particular character really distracted me from the story.

Well. That one messes with your mind right up until the very end. I really enjoyed this newest one from Lisa Jewell. Set in London, this fast-paced, dark tale is about Alix (a podcaster) and Josie (a quirky seamstress).

The two share a birthday and this ensues the start of a podcast with Alix interviewing Josie about her life. However, things are much more sinister and complicated than Alix first expected. Soon their lives are intertwined in a way with permanent implications.

Told between their points-of-view and podcast interviews between the two and other characters, the pacing of this novel is perfection.

If you haven’t read a Lisa Jewell book yet, you should know that she is the queen of slow burn mysteries with a well worth it ending. I think she is the only author who writes slow burns that I don’t mind reading! I’m more of a fast paced thriller gal, but there’s just something about Jewell’s writing that will consume you and keep you intrigued.

Thank you so much Atria Books for sending me an ARC of this gem! It comes out 8/8/23.

When Josie celebrates her birthday in a restaurant, she comes across Alix who happens to be the same age. Her birthday twin. She happens to be a famous podcast host and Josie grows fond of her. When she bumps into her again one day, she offers to do a tell all of her life on Alix’ podcast. As she divulges her life story, her dark secrets and past emerge and worms its way into Alix’ life.

𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.💫/5. WOW. What an incredible domestic thriller that truly delivered. It was such a gripping story and I just couldn’t tell what was going to happen next. The unreliable characters kept me guessing and i couldn’t tell who to trust. It was definitely a slow unraveling of events, but once everything was coming together, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! It was truly addicting and the way it was written was unique in a sense that it felt like you were literally watching a dramatic documentary on Netflix. While it was a rollercoaster ride, I was yearning for more at the end and left me with lots of questions. Nevertheless, this is one heck of a thriller I highly recommend and is definitely one of my favorite thrillers this year!

So when I read the vp of atria books is telling me this is the best book from Lisa Jewell. I had to take a moment. My skeptic self scoffing. I’ll be the judge of that.

Well yes, this is her best book. Best work hands down. The way I couldn’t put this book down. The story plot is unique in the way it’s delivered. The single white female vibes are there.

I can see this easily becoming a best seller, and movie rights sold.

Alix has a popular podcast, where she interviews successful women who have overcome intense obstacles.  She's approached by Josie, who wants Alix to do a podcast on her life AS she is overcoming the obstacles, on her way to success. Alix is intrigued by this idea and thinks this could make an interesting podcast.  But, as Josie tells her story, Alix begins to doubt her and her state of mind.

Lisa Jewell is a master of suspense.  She really sets the stage and makes you question everything.  Is Josie reliable? Is what she's telling you true? It's really hard to know. This is the second book I've read by her and I immediately need to go check out some of her other works.
I enjoyed how the podcast was turned into a Netflix documentary and they had pieces of it sprinkled into the book.  They also say in the beginning that three people will end up dead and you're constantly guessing to figure out who it will be. You really dive into the dark mind of Josie and want to scream at Alix to run before it's too late.  This was an enjoyable, twisty thriller that's worth picking up.

I received an advance review copy for free from the publisher via Netgalley, and I am leaving this honest review.

Dark and twisty with an unreliable narrator, None of This is True had me hooked from the start. I knew it was going somewhere disturbing. Every few chapters I kept changing my mind about exactly what I thought was going to happen. I didn’t love the podcast/Netflix aspect, but I devoured the second half of the book in one afternoon.

A very twisty suspense book, this novel follows two women, born on the same day, that meet when celebrating their 45th birthdays. As Josie convinces Alix to tell the story of Josie changing her life on Alix's podcast, three deaths are revealed.

The title of this book is perfect because the reader arrives at the end wondering what if anything is true? There are so many questions that could be assumed to be answered one way or another at the end. The ending is ambiguous in the best of ways. Lisa Jewell writes excellent novels that keep the readers turning the pages and this is no exception.

Whoa. 🤯😳 There is so much to unwrap here. I will try to review without spoiling anything. This book totally sucked me in and I could not put it down until I was pulled away for dinner. Then as I was eating I was just reeling from what I had read. With the title of the book I wasn't sure who was telling the truth. This book was fantastic and a bit disturbing. Definitely a must read.

Hi! You’re my birthday twin! Wow. This was an incredible read. So disturbing and twisty. I physically could not put it down, just dying to know how everything was going to unfold.

I loved the incorporation of the podcast interviews and Netflix scenes.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this arc.

My heart is still racing.

What the fuck did I just read??

None Of This Is True starts with an off chance encounter of two women who learn that they’re birthday twins. The similarities end there.

Quickly, you’ll find yourself drawn to these mismatched characters—popular podcaster Alix Summers and the strange and complicated Josie Fair. The latter is a fan of the podcast and thinks she just might be Alix’s next interesting subject. After all, she is on the very edge of some great changes in her life.

The trial interview turns into Alix’s greatest temptation as Josie’s oddities take shape into something more… darker. Unsettling. Sinister.

But who can resist being on the cusp of the next possibly viral podcast? Alix’s digging turns up more and more unnerving secrets until she soon finds herself unable to claw her way out of the darkness that she’s invited into her own life.

This psychological thriller is so well done, creepy, fast paced, and ultimately mesmerizing that you’ll want to keep up. With each thread tugged, the further unraveling of Josie’s tales has you falling further and further into the dark recesses of her mind and will have you questioning, what the hell have I gotten myself into?

Dark. Intense. Addictive. A glorious, moody, 5-star of a thriller novel.

An intense psychological thriller with a twist! Alix is a podcaster who unexpectedly runs into her "birthday twin" named Josie - both turned 45. Josie is insistent that Alix create a new podcast - one in which Josie is the subject as a woman who is on the verge of great changes in her life. As Alix makes the podcast, a dark realization comes over her that perhaps Josie is not the unassuming birthday twin she once thought, and in fact is harboring some terrible secrets. Suddenly, Alix is no longer just reporting the podcast, but has in fact become entangled within it. Her life and that of her family's becomes threatened by what she has found out about Josie.

Omg, this was so good. I was completely riveted and immersed in the story.

A serious who-done-it thriller.

We get stalker vibes, mixed with unreliable witnesses, I mean there is just so much going on in this story it was so unclear what was truth what was a lie, and what actually happened. I still don’t know if I have a clear answer.

An amazing psychological thriller and so far one of my favorites from this author.

I loved the aspect of the podcast/documentary. We get multiple timelines and POVs. I loved hearing from different witnesses about their history with Josie.

If you like a neat ending this is not the book for you, but if you are a fan of Verity where you question everything then you need to add this one to your list!

THIS WAS SO GOOD Y’ALL! MY MIND IS BLOWN.

I wasn’t sure about this book going in, because I had read Then She Was Gone & The Night She Disappeared and liked them, but didn’t love them. They read more as slow-burn mysteries when I was expecting thrillers, but I do think that Lisa Jewell is an objectively good writer. There were actually a lot of words in this book I highlighted because I didn’t know them. Anyway, None of This is True delivers the thrills through and through! I saw a lot of people on Bookstagram read and love this, and knew I had to request an ARC. I was so happy to get one!

Something that surprised me right off the bat is was how readable this book is. The writing style is so immersive that I read the majority of it in one day. I didn’t want to put it down! I really enjoyed getting the perspectives of the two main characters, Josie and Alix. Their voices were distinguished and I didn’t get them mixed up at all. We get their points of views in third person. Although in the book they connect through having certain things in common (being born at the same time in the same place—being “birthday twins”), the differences in their lives and personalities didn’t feel superficial at all. I was thoroughly invested in both characters’ storylines, but Josie’s character was extremely interesting.

I also REALLY enjoyed how the “Netflix documentary clips” were seamlessly interspersed in the story. In the book, Alix, one, of the main characters, has a podcast. We follow her making a new podcast called “Hi! I’m Your Birthday Twin!” with Josie, the other MC. By the end of the podcast being made, something had gone wrong, but you don’t know what. A Netflix documentary had been made about the podcast and what happened, and they play the podcast clips in the documentary (it sounds confusing but it’s super easy to understand in the book). The podcast is integral to the story, and I thought it was so unique how the podcast was woven into the documentary clips. There’s no doubt that podcasts in books can feel like they’re there because it’s trendy now, but the podcast is absolutely central to the story in the book, and that’s what I loved so much about it. It had a real purpose (as podcasts in books should. They should not be there just as a way to give information). This is going to sound so cool via audiobook!

I never like saying TOO much about the plot (I like going into books blind), but I was surprised by where the plot went in this one. My mind is still trying to process it if I’m being honest!
Read this book if you like…
* Questioning what’s the truth, and the nature of truth and reality
* True crime (this is a novel but gives true crime vibes)
* Morally gray characters
* Dark subject matter (Lisa Jewell is never afraid to go there! You can message me for TWs)

None of This is True comes out August 8, 2023. Go pick it up! It’s perfect to read in the summer.

*Thank you so much to Atria Books, Lisa Jewell, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!*
