Beautiful, spiritual, encouraging, and inspirational. I love the way author Toni Shiloh brings faith into this story. A heartfelt and honest portrayal of how a relationship can be formed and strengthened when God is placed first. Excellent read. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Nevaeh and Lamont’s story. The story has a feeling of reality about it, like it could happen to a celebrity and the girl next door. I really enjoyed the personal growth that the reader observes in both Nevaeh and Lamont. Shiloh shares some great wisdom through Lamont’s mother and later through Nevaeh’s mother, too. I appreciate the wonderful way Shiloh dealt with the personal relationship topics during the story, and her emphasis on the characters doing things God’s way. This is a well-written, light read that packs some challenging messages for readers today. It is sprinkled with a little humor and some sweet romance to make this a great story for an evening reading or a weekend escape.
I requested and received a copy of this book for review. The words and thoughts expressed here are wholly my own.
Toni Shiloh has done it again! In her previous series In Search of a Prince, the author took us on a delightful journey to an island kingdom off coast of Africa with royalty, government intrigue, and sweet romance. In this new series, we get immersed in Hollywood - with the glamour, paparazzi, and heartache along with life-changing faith and slow, tender romance. Nevaeh's first person voice is refreshingly honest, compassionate, innocent and so easy to fall in love with. Lamont's third person voice is humble, thoughtful, and loyal - he's definitely a swoon-worthy hero. Their crazy fake dating scheme seemed a little over-the-top and fairy tale-like but how their relationship developed felt very real and believable. Their struggle as believers with something the world may regard trivial hit home - we are called to be holy because He is holy. I also loved Lamont's friendship with believing brothers Chris and Tuck and I hope the series will bring them to spotlight.
Filled with memorable characters, fun and witty banter, and great life and faith lessons, this newest by Toni Shiloh will be the perfect beach read. I received the book from Bethany House Publishers via Interviews & Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
I thought this was another cute and fun read!
I'll have to go back and read her other books now.
I just loved the characters in this story. Neveah took me a minute to figure out that her name was Heaven spelled backwards. Beautiful name.
I finished this book in a day because I loved the banter between Lamont and Neveah. I even laughed at some of it. In my opinion their banter was what made this a fun read.
But my favorite character was Ms. Rosie. Her wisdom meant a lot to me. As I'm sure it did to this wonderful couple that I enjoyed getting to know.
Another reason I enjoyed this book so much was the faith filled themes scattered throughout the sweet novel and my 2nd favorite is the friends to lovers. To me, those make the best kinds of marriages and if it's God's will He'll make it happen!
Here's a favorite quote from this story. Lamont is telling Alyssa that he didn't want to go back to the place he was. The path where he used people, and they used people, and it was all a mess that had him checking into a "retreat " to find himself. Fortunately, he found God.
Then he told her that it's not as black and white as that. It's more like I was in such a state that once God opened my eyes to Him, I couldn't help but choose the things that would only glorify Him." It's no longer about me."
How true
I'm sad that this sweet novel ended so soon because I couldn't put it down until it was finished. I felt like it was too short, but in reality, it really wasn't!
5 stars for a job well done! My heart is full and satisfied!
I'll be thinking about these characters for a long time to come.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was a fun read for me and the third book from Toni Shiloh that I’ve read. I have to say, she is becoming one of my favorite authors, and I now look forward to reading her books.
If you’ve read her two recent books, In Search of a Prince and To Win a Prince, this book is a little different. The previous books were more adult contemporary taking place in an international setting, and this book is a classic chic lit.
I’m not an avid reader of chic lit, but this book is starting to change my mind. It focuses on two characters, Nevaeh, a Hollywood hair stylist, and Lamont, a famous Hollywood actor. Two people from different worlds, yet working in the same industry.
How they met was clever, which obligated them to pretend to date in order to spare Lamont’s Christian reputation. What a liked about this story, as it took off from there, was the whirlwind of a life Nevaeh experienced being the girlfriend of a Hollywood star. Though I’m not knowledgeable about Hollywood life, the ups and mostly downs felt real and believable, and it was refreshing to read about life in the limelight through those who were strongly connected to their faith.
The underlying message in learning to trust in God and let go of fear was evident in the plot and encouraged me to do the same. Overall, the story was easy to get into and keep reading to the end. It had great humor and banter, and I appreciated the text messaging parts Lamont had with his friends. It gave the story life. I wish it could continue longer than it did, but I believe it ended well.
I have no real negatives with this story, I would recommend it to those who enjoy chic lit and clean reads. The only thing I wish I could have found out was, which career path did Nevaeh decide to take?
All in all, I look forward reading to Toni’s next book!
***This book was given to me by Bethany House and NetGalley for an honest review.***
(thank you netgalley and bethany house for an arc in exchange for an honest review)
“The Love Script” is the first book in the "Love in the Spotlight" series and is also my introduction to Toni Shiloh and I can say it did not disappoint.
Lamont Booker is an actor. From the resident bad boy to the country’s sweetheart, Lamont has changed from his days of wild parties and sex to dedicating his life to God and doing his best to serve him in all ways, such as the roles he plays in movies. Because of this, he’s constantly in the spotlight. Support from his fans and fellow Christians. Criticism from those who don’t believe in his conversion, some Christians themselves. He’s been able to hide his mother’s cancer from the world but it may not be possible anymore when an innocent photo may ruin his entire career.
Nevaeh Richards is a hairstylist. Born of academic parents, she struck out on her own path and followed her passion in making others feel good with their appearance. When Lamont Baker offers her a job helping his mother with her hair after suffering hair loss from chemotherapy, she is quick to accept. She is also a Christian but struggles in attending churches that do not meet her standards.
One day, as she’s leaving an appointment at the Booker house, she stumbles, Lamont catches her and an innocent photo threatens to ruin both their careers. Desperate, they come up with a plan to start fake dating but with neither of them comfortable with telling such a lie, they decide to actually date and see if it would lead anywhere. Technically, that’s not lying, right?
Dating a celebrity isn’t as magical as you would think it would be and this becomes one of the main conflicts that the characters need to deal with but it’s okay. They’re together.
I loved this. This was such a cute wholesome book. It was a rough start with all the references to various celebrities and pop-culture but once I got into it, I practically devoured it. The relationships in this book, the characters with each other and with God was beautiful to read. Nevaeh already had a strong foundation in her faith, though rocky in relation to going to church but the fact that Lamont was able to make friends with people of the same faith, in Hollywood, was just amazing. I can’t wait to read Tucker and Chris’ books. I already know who Tucker's love interest will be :) and I have a slight guess into who’s Chris’ might be (unless a new character is introduced in the sequel)
While I did love it, I can say that I struggled with the narration. We follow both our MCs but while Nevaeh’s chapters are in first person, Lamont’s are in third and that was a bit jarring. I wish they were both in third to be honest but I’m not sure if that will be in the final print.
Still, I highly highly recommend this to anyone looking into clean, christian romance.
Reality becomes a little to Real
Neveah and Lamont are as different as could be. He’s a movie star and she’s a hairstylist. They agree to pretend to date but the lines start to blur when they actually start falling for each other.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and all opinions are my own.
Toni Shiloh's books are always a delight to read, and The Love Script is no exception. What would you do when your ordinary life is turned upside down and you are thrust into the spotlight? Hair stylist Neveah's life takes an unexpected turn after a photo of her and actor Lamont taken by paparazzi is published and people start drawing the wrong conclusion. A fake relationship between Lamont and Neveah may be the solution, but will it become more?
The characters were great and authentic. Both of them as Christians weren't afraid to stand up for their beliefs. Each of them dealt with their own struggles. I loved how Lamont and his two guy friends have a group text in which they encouraged each other and prayed for each other. I'm looking forward to the rest of the characters' stories.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGallery. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Neveah and Lamont both suffer from insecurities and doubts, and both have pretty reasonable reasons why. Watching them work through and learn to trust each other was so much fun.
I really like Lamont’s friends. The fact that these three guys have a group text and actively support/pray for each other is awesome. (I think it’s likely we’ll get their stories in future books!)
It felt like I was right there in the story with Neveah as things kept falling farther apart with each new story development, and I hurt for her. So when the good things happened I may have cheered out loud and startled the kids. Maybe… ;)
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and chose to review it here. All thoughts are my own.
Super fun and so sweet.
Their relationship began with a lie, and was all a fake. At least in the beginning....
But, then the fun began.
Nevaeh had been content in her life, she had a somewhat successful career as a hair stylist in Hollywood.
But then. Lamont Booker. Only the greatest celebrity ever.
And she's fake dating him? How can she possibly keep her heart out of it?
Her life takes a major curve because of all of this. And she's forced to re-evaluate.
These characters were fun and funny. Sweet and romantic. But most of all, in spite of the setting, realistic.
I loved the heart and soul that I felt buried beneath the layers.
This is a wonderful book to pick up and read when you need something that's a little more on the light side.

I've enjoyed every book I've read by Toni Shiloh and The Love Script certainly is no exception! It was very easy to become engrossed in Neveah's story and I didn't want to stop reading even though I knew I needed to get up in the morning for work. I like how Lamont had good Christian principles and friends he could count on to pray for him. This really is a great contemporary Christian romance.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
Publication date: 4 August 2023
Nevaeh Richards is your average talented Hollywood hair stylist trying to catch a break. Her favorite home visit client is the mother of the man voted the Sexiest Man Alive, Lamont Booker. When Lamont does the gentlemanly thing and saves Nevaeh from falling when exiting the mansion, a paparazzi photographer hiding in a tree catches their embrace. When the photo is published, everyone draws all of the wrong conclusions. Hoping to salvage his reputation as a Christian who lives out his beliefs, Lamont, upon the advice of his agent, asks Nevaeh if she would be his fake girlfriend. A believer herself, Nevaeh only agrees to this deception if they actually go on a date before announcing their relationship to the public. That way, they wouldn't really be lying...or would they? Sit back and enjoy this humorous, behind-the-scenes look at the life of a Hollywood A-Lister and the challenges of living life in a fishbowl for all to see. Will the fake romance turn into something more? Find out in this charming, entertaining story about the importance of being honest with everyone, including yourself.
This seems like a super fun series! It’s a friends to lovers which is a trope that I really like. I liked the lesson in there where we cannot rely always rely on the opinions of others and that we need to rely on God’s opinion alone.
This is the first book by Toni Shiloh that I have read. The Love Script is a sweet Christian rom-com that highlights how you can be a good example of Christ’s love even in the thrones of stardom and everything that goes with it.
Neveah, a hair stylist is a fun character who by a series of mishaps/events gets thrown into a very public “fake” love affair with Lamont, a very hot Hollywood actor.
Their romance was fun to watch develop and kept me engaged in the book. I am excited to see where the series takes the characters from here.
I received a complimentary copy from Bethany House the publisher via Netgalley.
This was such a surprising read! I had chose it because of the adorable cover but it really surprised me! I am not a typical Christian-romance book reader so I wasnt sure what to expect. But I really enjoyed this title and all it had to offer. It was a sweet story and had such lovable characters.
Have you ever read a book, told the characters what they should do at the first sign of conflict, realized they had not followed your advice at that moment, and then watched as they regretted it later on? That’s what happened while reading The Love Script by Toni Shiloh. All I could do was sit back, watch their story unfold, and then give them a gentle, “I told you so” when the time came.
But without their choice to ignore me, there wouldn’t have been this wonderful, moral-driven story in between.
The Love Script is the first book I’ve read by Toni Shiloh, and I enjoyed it. There were times when it had me laughing out loud, and others when I was upset right along with the characters. It also had me pondering my own faith and what I could do better.
I thought the characters were depicted well, each of them dealing with their own struggles yet seeking God in their own way. Lamont Booker was an actor who changed his worldly ways and chose God regardless of what his fans may have thought. And he dealt even more with being under the lens of a microscope because of his open faith. Everyone was waiting for him to fall. Neveah Richards was a hair stylist dreaming of becoming a key stylist in a film or tv production, facing rejection after rejection. She also lacked what Hollywood would call “the perfect body” and received scathing remarks about it when she began dating Lamont and had to deal with paparazzi, reporters, and camera flashes, something she had never had to worry about before.
The two characters also struggled when it came to dating each other. Was Neveah being genuine, or did she want something from Lamont? Was Lamont true to his word, or was he just that great of an actor? These concerns came up throughout the novel, keeping a consistency that I appreciated.
I loved how God was almost another main character in this story as well. He was never too far, and both Lamont and Neveah (along with other fun and special characters) relied heavily on Him. They both sought Him for direction and repented when they chose their own path over His. They even reminded each other of God’s goodness and that they needed to pray on whatever it was they were concerned about at the moment.
The one thing I will nit-pick about is the mention of a few Bachelor’s degrees in Education. It stopped my reading a little too long as I wondered what exactly they majored in. Elementary Education? Special Education? English? History? Science? And I was waiting for them to share student teaching experiences, especially Lamont’s. It was a little too generic for me.
All-in-all, this was a great read. I loved the fake-turned-real relationship, the lessons learned, and the unashamed use of God throughout. This story is for the one who loves reading fake-relationship romances, and for the Christian who could use a reminder of what’s truly important in our faith walk.
I'm not sure if I have read another book from the author, but her name has rang a bell to me. Anyway, this was a great story, altough with a dose of real drama on a high level to my kind of taste. And even so, a narrative full of hope and reflections that certainly the reader will be inspired by.
This was such a cute and sweet book! I adored the characters and I am super excited for this new series. The Love Script is the first book in Toni Shiloh’s new series, Love in the Spotlight series.
Neveah was a fun character. I really liked how she tried to be herself and how she cared for others. She had a kind heart. It was cool to read about her growing in her confidence in who she was in Christ and in her relationship with God. Neveah had to learn to trust God and look to him even when life got hard.
Lamont was also a great character. He was an actor trying to be a light to a dark world. It was interesting to read about him and see him interact with Neveah. It was sweet to read about him falling for her. Lamont had to learn to trust God and not value the opinion of others over doing what is right.
I adored getting to know these new characters. Neveah and Lamont were fun characters. I enjoyed their romance and how they grew to be friends first. They had a bit of an unconventional start but they grew to love each other as they spent more time together.
The romance was sweet and I was engaged with the book. It was interesting to see how Lamont and Neveah were going to end up together. I also loved meeting new characters and I am excited for the next books in the series. The Love Script is a sweet Christian romance
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.
Toni Shilohs gift is taking a familiar trope, turning it on its head, and giving it a unique spin. It’s exactly what she did in The Love Script (and so many other books). I enjoyed seeing how a Christian looked at the trope of fake dating and the questions that arose. The characters were genuine and true to their faith, I enjoyed seeing how it all played out and what they learned. Plus, the cover is a ten!
