What if your life is suddenly turned upside down and inside out? How would you handle feeling like you were living in a fishbowl? Would you fall apart or strive forward the best that you can?
I love this new book by author, Toni Shiloh. It holds so much in it and is a wonderful depiction of the struggles some celebrities have when mistakenly photographed by the paparazzi and the ripple effect it can have on their lives as well as others related to them.
This story not only showed the struggles, but it also had some tender moments of wise Godly wisdom from a sweet older lady, Ms. Rosie. I loved how she challenged Neveah and also Lamont in their faith and their daily walk with God.
Now, it also had some delightful romance that developed unexpectedly between the two main characters and some really fun banter between Lamont and his friends. (Whom I hope to see in their own books soon!)
Toni Shiloh has written a beautifully touching story with rich word pictures. Many times, I felt deep emotions as I was reading this book. She has a wonderful way of conveying the feelings of each of the characters in this book. I will always pick up one of her books because I know I will be entertained and yet given thoughts to ponder.
This story had all the drama, tension, humor, and romance that will sit with you for a while. It’s truly an enjoyable book to read.
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Nevaeh was a sweetheart. From the minute you met her on the page, you were drawn to her because of the purity of her heart. She genuinely cared about people which was evident in her relationship with Ms. Rosie.
Lamont was a Christian who was genuinely trying to live his faith. I respected what he was trying to do with his platform and how he cared for his mom.
Nevaeh's fangirling over Lamont made for some funny moments and banter between the two. What I liked about The Love Script was that even though Lamont and Nevaeh were fake-dating, they spent time actually getting to know each other making their romance a slow, sweet one.
Ms. Shiloh tackled some tough topics in The Love Script such as body issues and the value of a person.
Readers of The Love Script will be reminded that God designed the church to be a community for believers. A place where they go to worship the Lord. This was a lesson Nevaeh had to learn as she often avoided the assembly of believers for various reasons.
I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.
Neveah Richards dreams of being a hairstylist for a hit show, but finds herself in the news for a very different reason when a paparazzo catches her and the Sexiest Man Alive in what is being conveyed as a very romantic position. While it may convey romance to some however, it creates disaster for Lamont Booker, the SMA, due to his desire to keep his newly Christian image intact in Hollywood, and the morality clauses included in his contracts. Neveah, Lamont, and Lamont's agent/publicist decide the only way to save both of their reputations is to tell the world they're in a relationship. Not wanting to lie to the public, Neveah and Lamont decide to date for real and see where it goes. Can that be enough to clear their consciences? Can Neveah handle that kind of spotlight?
Once again, Toni Shiloh packs faith and faith filled friendships into a fun story that centers around finding God's will and seeking His direction for her characters' lives. She does Christian friendships so well. I loved the interaction between Lamont and his guy friends, Tuck and Chris. Dare I hope their stories are coming?!? I only wished for Neveah to have her own confidante who challenged her faith, but that was part of her story - to realize her need for that sort of wisdom in her life. And while she got bits of that from Lamont and Ms. Rosie in this story, I'm imagining her becoming fast friends with Piper, and finding a community of her own.
I give this book 4 stars, but I'm super hopeful that I'll get more of all of these characters in future books!
I received a digital copy of this book, via NetGalley, from the publishers, in exchange for my honest review.
THE LOVE SCRIPT is the first novel in the Love in the Spotlight series by TONI SHILOHIt. It is a most enjoyable read with great characters and a strong Christian message. I cannot recommend this lovely book highly enough.
Nevaeh Richards is a hair stylist who works in Hollywood. One of her clients is Rosie Booker, Lamont Booker - The Sexiest Man Alive’s - mother. When a photo is taken of Lamont helping Nevaeh down the front steps of his home, his Christian faith is comprmised. They start fake dating at the suggestion of his agent Bryan, and Nevaeh’s life is never the same. Hounded by the paparazzi, abused on line, she loses her job at The Mane Do and has to move out of the apartment she shares with a friend who is trying to use the siruation to her own advantage.
They start really dating in order to get to know one another, and when they develop feelings for one another they each feel convicted that they need to not only repent before God, but come clean no matter the cost to Lamont’s reputation.
I like Nevaeh’s dry wit and the way their dialogue is full of well known quotations from their favourite films. I also like the way their individual relatioships with the Lord are described. I love Ms Rosie, Nevaeh’s parents and Lamont’s two praying friends, who contrast well with the falseness and worldliness in the film industry.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
I've read a couple of books by Toni Shiloh and have marveled at her skill as an author. In The Love Script, she has taken a hair stylist and put her in an extraordinary position in the spot light that she never wanted. Nevaeh has been photographed by snaparazzi with Lamont Booker, an actor who has made a stand for his faith, and photoshopped to make the photo look compromising. In order to stand up for what he believes is right, they begin dating and something in each of them draws them closer together in ways they never imagined.
Lamont got to know Nevaeh when she was taking care of his mother's hair while his mother was undergoing cancer treatment. Because of the picture taken coming out of Lamont's house, Nevaeh loses her job, loses her apartment, and has to reboot her career, all the while playing a role as Lamont's girl friend.
I love the way Toni makes her characters three-dimensional. They exhibit their humanness as well as their love for a loving Heavenly Father. They understand the importance of their witness before the world in a place that is too worldly.
This is one of the best books I've read in a while and it was so hard to put down. I appreciate the way Toni spins a tale and hooks the reader in from the very first line. I will be reading more of her books.
Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a scalp massage at your favorite salon.
Bethany House Publishing provided the copy I read for this review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
Cheesy but cute. I liked the faith content but the references to hulu, netflix, and society threw me off. It wasn't great as I expected.
It was more religious than I expected it to be. Very much reliant on the Lord which as a Jew was not for me, but I enjoyed the romance aspects of it. Just be prepared for heavy on the religion.
I haven’t read a lot of Toni Shiloh’s books. I really enjoyed her two recent royal books, and wondered if I would like this one, being in a totally different setting. I did like it! The Love Script is very well done, and is very though-provoking. I appreciate Shiloh’s insights into lies vs the truth, why we need to go to church/the true meaning of worship, what love is, and leading a Spirit-filled life day by day. I loved most of the characters (but you don’t want to love the “bad guys” anyway). I liked her humor. I’d love to see sequels focusing on Lamont’s friends Tuck and Chris.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #TheLoveScript #NetGalley
Nevaeh Richards is a hair stylist that dreams of working as a head stylist on movie sets but so far she usually just has her salon job and some private jobs for individuals. One of her regulars is the mother of movie star Lamont Booker. His mother has had a bout with cancer and he hired Nevaeh to give her special care at his home. When a paparrazzi hit catches a photo of Navaeh in Lamont's arms after he catches her as she trips off the front steps, the press goes nuts and Lamont's agent advises them to pretend they are engaged. Everything changes for both of them and they are surprised about how it goes from there and both a little concerned about the deception that got them this far. This is a delightful story and I look forward to reading more of this author's work.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.
