As a former Goth and still, to be fair, Goth at heart, this seemed like a winner. I thoroughly enjoyed the jokes, a good mix of cheesy, witty and pleasantly original. Some of them were so genuinely laugh out loud funny that I elicited some very odd looks from my family. Probably not cool for Goths to laugh or even crack a smile so there’s your warning for starters. Maybe read this alone, somewhere remote and dreary to lessen the effect might be a good plan, I’d hate for you to lose your Goth credentials.
My only other complaint is that the collection was too short and so finished in the blink of an eye but, hey, I’m a Goth I’ve got to find something to moan about right?!
I definitely needed a good laugh this morning, and Oh My Goth is what I needed to read. It is a series of jokes that are good for horror fans, Halloween and people with a dark sense of humor. Warning: puns and geeky humor abound....which definitely appeals to me!
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC
An unimpressive collection of dad jokes that are utterly ridiculous and most don’t even make sense, we are really stretching the imagination just to make things “goth”
Some semi-funny jokes, but mostly just Christmas cracker style puns. In all honesty, if it wasn’t free on NetGalley I would have felt annoyed at buying it to read it. A nice idea, but not something you’d want to relook at…
The book was funny: I fully plan to incorporate one or two into my repertoire.
You can easily substitute introvert for Goth in many instances.
It was also short but a longer volume might have started feeling unfunny.
Probably not for a library except maybe as prizes.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
⁉️Tell me us a joke!
Where do goths sleep when they go home for the holidays?
In despair bedroom 🥁
BOOK REVIEW
Oh My Goth: Jokes for When You Feel Dead Inside, compiled by Andrew Shaffer
Pub date: May 22, 2023
96 (short) pages
Thanks @netgalley for the e-ARC
Ok, so obvs my emotions heart couldn’t resist this ghoulish joke book featuring a sad skeleton.
The dedication literally says, “to anyone who’s ever been told, ‘it’s just a phase.’” 🖤 💀 💜
So, of course, my black heart swelled immediately.
That sad, these jokes are so bad they’re good? You’re little emo/goth kids need this if for the cover alone. It’s super short, though, even despite the 96 page count. There are just a handful of lines on each.
The joke above was my favorite. I might need despair bedroom in my house 🤔

This is a joke book where the cover made me think it was rather dark, however, isn't too bad. There was a mix of predictable jokes and ones that caught me off guard.
If you enjoy jokes about death that lighten the mood, this is the book for you.
I received this ARC book through NetGalley.
If you are looking for a snicker, then this book for you! I never knew there were Goth jokes out there. I stand corrected.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this!
HILARIOUS! On the digital ARC you don't get the full impact of the graphics, but most of the jokes are funny enough without them that it's not a big deal Granted, as with all humor, some were more to my taste than others, but I laughed out loud more often than not and am only sorry that it wasn't longer!
This book was a book after my own. I loved the banter and dark humor the stories this was a book i needed and wanted
Sorry, this wasn't for me. There were some funny jokes here and there, but most of them I unfortunately just did not like or find funny.
This was such a funny little book. I wish I had it back in back in my millennial wannabe emo days. This compilation joke book definitely makes me want to read more from this author. Highly recommend for a quick laugh.
Am I already planning on getting a copy of this for everyone in my life? I sure am.
I'll be like Oprah at Christmas: You get a goth joke book! You get a goth joke book!
This little anthology is as necessary as grave-dirt for a vampire, as brains are for zombies, and as the waning of the full moon is for werewolves.
A must-have gift for "dark humour" friends.
Quick and funny read. Some jokes were funnier than others but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I was surprised and delighted by Edward scissorhands making an appearance in this book. It was a gothic delight.
I am excited to see the illustrations in the full version of the book, those that were provided were very visually appealing and would be fun to flip through. This would be a good joke gift to a friend or family member who is goth. I don't think many of the "jokes" in here were actually jokes, but more like kind of cheesy quips about being goth (like "I am so goth, the dark is scared of me"). I did exhale sharply through my nose for a few (such as " Q: What happens if you don't pay your exorcist? A: You get repossessed"), but I have the sense of humor of a twelve year old and the material seems to be targeted to a slightly older audience.
Eh, just wasn't for me. A handful of jokes were actually funny to me but most of them were just okay or plain silly. I do think once the final artwork is done, that it will add a lot to the book. However, it won't be on that I'll recommend.
I was sorely disappointed by this joke book. These jokes largely sent me into the past, remembering things 14 year old kids wrote on their myspace profiles to seem cool and edgy. While I was not the target audience, I also can't think of anyone I would recommend the book to.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free ARC.
4⭐️
A very quick read of one liners for your favorite goth. Most of these got at least a chuckle from me, but some of the music related ones felt very dated or specifically aimed at a ‘90s goth kid rather than a goth kid that regularly still shops at Hot Topic. Overall, very cute for a gag gift!
Thanks Netgalley and Astoria for providing this ARC to me!
2/5 stars! This book is exactly what it claims to be, which is a joke book. The issue is that there's nothing very inventive or, although I hate to say it, very funny about it. If you're a fan of dad humor and need a few middle school caliber of jokes, this is a fun resource. But it lacks any significant depth or intellect to its jokes.
I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
This was a cute and corny joke book. Expect some dark humor and a lot of goth dad jokes. It was fun to read out to my partner and child, getting the groans and laughs in response.
All in all a good little niche joke book.
