This Spells Love is a fantastic romance that swept me up from the first line of the book. I could tell that I was going to root for and love Gemma! Gemma has just gotten out of a four relationship, and she has lost a part of herself. She fell into a boring pattern, and now, she is dealing with a broken heart. When her aunt tells her about a spell book that she found, Gemma decides to try a spell to make it so she never met her ex. Gemma has to seal the spell with a kiss, and she shares a kiss with her best friend, Dax. They have been best friends for four years.

The spell works, and she finds herself in an alternate timeline. Her aunt and sister are the same, but other things about her life have changed. Dax doesn't know her at all, and her job and life have changed. While she begins to feel happiness and joy in this timeline, she has to decide if she wants to stay here or go back to the way that things were.

I loved the dynamic between Gemma and Dax. I love the friends to lovers trope, and this one was done so well. There was some spiciness in this story too!

Overall, this is a really beautiful romance about finding yourself, finding joy, and finding your true happiness. It's also about taking risks and making changes, even though those two things are so difficult to do.

I absolutely adored this! It's a cute romcom with a bit of spice, and it just hit all my feel-good buttons.

Gemma just got out of a 4 year relationship and is lost now after believing she had a safe plan for basically the rest of her life. When her lovely aunt proposes a spell to stop Gemma from even starting that relationship, her whole world changes. Not huge changes like global catastrophe, but she moves to an alternate universe that holds many surprises.

This book. First, I don't have siblings, but I wish I had a sister like Gemma's sister Kiersten. Second, omg I need an unhealthy amount of donuts and coffee after reading this! The way I craved a donut throughout this story is absolutely ungodly.

I thought this was funny and sweet. Gemma at first comes across as a bit self-absorbed (but who wouldn't in this situation), but she grows throughout the story, and that was really great to see.

Out December 5, 2023!

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!!!

Gemma's plan to heal her recently broken heart includes casting a silly spell to erase her ex from her past. But when the spell actually works, Gemma wakes up in a world where everything has changed. She never dated her ex, but at the same time, she never met her best friend, Dax. While she waits for the optimal time to reverse the spell, Gemma learns the huge impacts one small change can have on her life and begins to wonder if things would have been better off left unchanged.

This was a fun read, with an interesting premise. The characters were lovable and the small town charm was through the roof. Overall, a good, enjoyable book.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Read this if youโ€™veโ€ฆ
โ€ข ever wondered what life would be like if you never dated that person, took that job, fought with that friend, etc.
โ€ข ever wished you could cast a spell to forget your ex
โ€ข ever been in love with your BFF

Gemma casts a spell after her long-term boyfriend breaks up with her, but as one might imagine โ€” it doesnโ€™t quite go as planned. She ends up in an alternate reality where most things are totally different, but one thing remains the sameโ€ฆ whether she knows it or not, Gemma and her BFF Dax share feelings that go beyond friendship.

In Gemmaโ€™s real world, she and Dax have never crossed the friendship line. She couldnโ€™t possibly think of him that wayโ€ฆ could she?

In her alternate reality, she and Dax take things to the next level and now Gemma canโ€™t imagine it any other wayโ€ฆ

The lines start to blur between Gemmaโ€™s old life and this new version of life she finds herself in. Will she stay here or try to go back?

This was a fun read - spooky, magic, spells, and spice! Things fell off a bit for me midway as I found the writing to be a bit clunky and there were some stretches that read like filler to me. I prefer 300+ page books, but this felt like it couldโ€™ve been shorter or better organized. I wouldโ€™ve liked a little more about the ~after~ and maybe a teeny bit less of the alternate reality.

I loved this book! It was super fun, different from any other romcom Iโ€™ve read. It definitely couldโ€™ve been more witchy, but overall a very enjoyable read that makes you feel good.

This novel is a dream. Almost literally. I flew through this one, and I would argue that this is, hands down, the best ARC Iโ€™ve read to date. The tension is delicious, the pacing is perfect, and the ending is deeply satisfying.

Gemma, a beauty sales exec, has recently been dumped by her ex, Stuart. In an attempt to remedy the situation, Gemma, along with her sister, aunt, and best friend, Dax, casts a spell to make it as though Gemma never dated Stuart at all. Sealed with a platonic kiss from Dax, Gemma enters a new reality where she sees the fruits of the labor of dreams she never explored and the prices she paid to make those dreams happen.

This new reality is also one in which Dax is not a part of her life. In this one, she and Dax start fresh, becoming something heated and more. This Dax has been through more than her Dax though, and Gemma is suddenly left pondering some deeper questions than she thought necessary.

Perfect for fans of friends-to-lovers tropes (with a twist!), a little bit of magic, and alternate reality stories.

Available December 5. Cannot recommend enough!

Iโ€™m not sure why but I hated this book. It was so boring and an absolute chore to finish. I was hoping for more witchy magic vibes considering the premise and the title but I was disappointed to discover there was barely any magic at all. I think this book is a me problem because it seems most people are really enjoying it.

This was such a cute little book. It gave me Practical Magic vibes mixed with 13 Going On 30. It was nice to see that even though she wasnโ€™t necessarily from that universe most of her support system was the same. My only question for the whole book is what happened to the Gemma that was originally there?

This is funny! I was so pleasantly surprised to find out this was a debut novel. There are many seasoned authors who don't write novels this easy to read. This was a great pallette cleanser. It was an easy, lighthearted romance in the same vein as Emily Henry and I'm happy I read it! I tend to be very picky about my romance and I would read this author again for sure. I will say I understand nothing about curling, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this read. ๐Ÿ˜‚ And the second time now I've snagged an ARC that's also a BOTM! (A good sign ๐Ÿ˜‰) I would have picked it this month if I hadn't read it already. Definitely recommend!

Thank you Netgalley and Random House for the ARC!

What an amazing debut book. There was romance and a bit of magic. If you had the option to travel to a parallel universe and see yourself down a different path in life would you? Thatโ€™s what happens with Gemma during one night of doing a witchy spell with her aunt and sister after a break up. She still has the same people in her life, in this parallel universe but her relationship with her best friend Dax is different.

In this universe Gemmaโ€™s life is different, sheโ€™s not as reserved as she is in her โ€œreal,โ€ universe. She doesnโ€™t have the same ex. She doesnโ€™t work at a job that she doesnโ€™t enjoy. But the biggest difference is she doesnโ€™t have her best friend.

Throughout the story you can see Gemma figuring out her feelings for Dax, you can also see what is was missing all along. Thereโ€™s a lot that happens during her stay in the parallel universe. During her stay she also takes a step back to reflect what she wants from this universe that isnโ€™t there in her original universe. She also reflects on her relationship with her loved ones.

Will she stay, if given the chance to go back home? Or will she stay in this universe where it seems like she has everything she wanted?

.Loveddddd this one. I really liked the idea of the book. Gemma wants to cure her heart by drinking and casting a love spell. She wakes up in an alternate universe where she has it all. Itโ€™s one of those books that teaches us the grass isnโ€™t always greener. I loved that it wasnโ€™t predictable and love how it ended. It was cute and lighthearted and Dax has just been added to the book boyfriend list. Must read!

What an amazing book, especially as a debut. This Spells Love asks the question: if given the chance to start anew, would you follow the same life path, or would you choose a different road? The story was a delightful and unique story. Gemma and Dax are relatable characters, who are easy to root for in their friends-to-lovers romance.

In summary Gemma is heartbroken and performs this witchy ritual to erase the day she met her ex. The only problem is that she met her best friend, Dax, that same day. And the problems begin.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am so happy I read this book in October. The magic, the parallel universe timeline was so much fun. I enjoyed this book and am excited to read more by Kate Robb.

Gemma is reeling from a breakup from her long-term boyfriend. So she reacts like any young woman would, by getting drunk with her sister, aunt, and her best friend Dax and casting a love cleaning spell to forget about her ex. It might sound crazy, but what has she got to lose?

Gemma wakes up from her margarita filled night in an unfamiliar place. Sheโ€™s not quite sure what is going on, but it appears shes in a different reality where she has never met her ex, and her best friend has no idea who she is.

In order to get back her old life, Gemma must realize what she is truly looking for and wanting. Can she do it and reverse the spell?

It wasnโ€™t until this year, and this book particularly, that I realized how much I time skip, or parallel universe type romance. I also am a sucker for a friends to lover romance, so this one was just about the perfect read for me. While the romance in this one was what I would consider a slow burn, I really enjoyed it. I usually get bored, but this one held my attention right from the beginning, and it didnโ€™t let up. I loved Gemma, and how much she few over the course of the book. She started out as so unsure of herself, but then she learned that she can trust herself, and she does have value. I loved the relationship that she and her sister had as well. Her sister was her ultimate supporter and that was so heartwarming. I also loved the relationship Gemma had with her aunt. Dax was also a fun character and reading about the conflicting personalities he had in each universe was interesting.

If you are looking for a truly enjoyable romance, then check this one out.

Thank you so much to Random House, Dial Press Trade Paperback, and Netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

3 Stars An enjoyable "sliding doors" type romance. It was fun to read about both sides of Gemma's life, including how it could have been if she'd never met her best friend Dax. The chemistry between Gemma and Dax was natural and undeniable. A great story about going after what you truly want.

This spells love was super enjoyable. Lots of relatable moments that weโ€™ve all experienced when trying to make a good impression on someone we are interested in and the drama of jumping to conclusions before knowing all of the facts. While magic helped our MFC see what an alternative path could have been she realizes that messing with something can also hurt someone else and to make sure this is really a good choice. The romance of friends to lovers is done very well and tastefully. Our MCs have great chemistry and their steamy scenes deliver the spice. I highly recommend giving this a read if you are looking for a romance story that makes you root for the happy ending but also characters going after what they truly want in their lives.

I've been anticipating this book for a while now and it did not disappoint! After a breakup, Gemma's quirky aunt suggests she do a magic spell to cleanse the memory of her ex. Only Gemma wakes up in an alternate dimension where she's not only cleansed her ex from her life, but she never met her best friend Dax either. In the "new" world, she befriends Dax and the two of them fall in love making Gemma wonder if she wants to go back to her old life where they are still only friends.

I love "sliding doors" type of books and this one was so well written. I was completely drawn into Gemma's world (both of them). I felt the chemistry between her and Dax and really enjoyed the dynamic between Gemma and her older sister. It's hard to believe this is the author's debut. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

Magical realism and a rom-com. This was a fun story. The main characters worked together. Glad that I read this one
