What happens when a single wish gives you everything you thought you wanted but took away the one person who means the most??

This was so darn good! 13 Going on 30 meets romcom vibes all wrapped up in a magical bow! We follow Gemma who is on the heels of breakup when she makes a wish that turns her world upside down…well more like creates an alternate reality! A reality that wipes her ex from her past - but also wipes her best friend (Dax) from her life as well! Now stuck in this alternate timeline she must track down Dax and earn his trust all by the next full moon so she can return to her old life!

Full of magic, friendship, family, love, loss and swoon worthy romance - Spells for Love was a fantastical read!

Thank you to Random House for the advanced copy!

I give this one 3.5 stars...

The concept was all about a Sliding Doors situation, and I feel like I have read quite a few of those in the last year or two. Still, I enjoyed the characters and plot, and the relationships were fantastic, There was definitely some spice!

I will definitely read another book by Kate Robb if it has a bit more original concept.

I absolutely adored this book! Apparently magical realism is the perfect addition to a friends to lovers storyline! I smiled so many times while reading and felt so invested in the love story and subplots of the book. This was the ultimate cozy fall read!

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC of this adorable book!

Gemma thought Stuart was the one. But, when she gets dumped instead of engaged her world is shattered. How does she cope? She gets plastered with her sister, hunky best friend Dax, and her eccentric aunt.

To make things a little easier for Gemma, they decide to use a spell book found at her aunt's shop to perform a love cleanse. If they forever erase the romance from Gemma's life, won't things get easier?

What they find is that the spell works, only Gemma knows what happened, and she's on a wild ride of trying out this new form of life, versus the heartbroken one.

Now, Gemma has to reverse the spell. Convincing her family to help won't be that big of a deal, but getting her now acquaintance to help, proves to be harder than she thought.

A little magical realism never hurt anyone! I thought the characters were well-rounded and the story cute. An easy breezy read that will have you rooting. for Gemma by the end.

This story was super cute, Gemma ends up doing a spell to try and forget her now ex-boyfriend and it ends up making her best friend forget who she is, and she only has a month to get him to help her reverse the spell but ends up starting to fall for him along the way. I kind of liked that Gemma had to basically start from the beginning with Dax and saw a different side of him because of that. The whole idea around the storyline was cute and used magic realism in a unique way. I didn't find myself connecting with the characters as much as I wanted to, but I honestly think that was just a personal thing for me. Otherwise it was an easy read and good story!

I'm a huge witch-romance reader so I expected to love this book. I unfortunately did not enjoy this. I sped through most of it, trying to get to the end faster because I did not enjoy the characters. Usually the friends-to trope always hits for me but the chemistry between these two characters was non-existent for me. He was strangely cold to her, even after they regained a friendship in the other universe and I was constantly confused why she fell for him. I would not recommend.

After Gemma’s boyfriend of four years break up with her, she’s heartbroken. Her aunt, her sister and her best friend Dax, decide to preform a spell to erase her ex from her life. But what changes in her life when that happens?

My Thoughts:
I’m a sucker for friends to lovers romances, but then add in magical realism and it’s like my own personal calling card.

This book is funny and sweet and I just adored it so much.

This book was the cutest fall time read for me!! I finished this one quickly and the writing was done fantastically. Gemma and Dax are the best of friends. Like the best friends that can read your mind, always there as your everyday support system, and believes in you more than you do yourself. Gemma is fresh out of a four year dead end relationship, Dax is the lovesick best friend ready to pick up the pieces. One innocent spell gives Gemma a peak at an alternate reality of what a different path could look like for her and her best friend. Hard choices will have to be made for everyone's true happiness.

This storyline was perfection, I couldn't have asked for more in this one. The plot was so unique and pulled me in immediately. I couldn't wait to keep reading and I felt an overwhelming connection with MC's and I adored the supporting characters as well. I am pretty sure Aunt Livi has some secrets she is keeping from everyone. I think we all have wondered what life would have been like had we changed something in the past. Can't wait to read more from the author.

After a bad breakup, Gemma’s sister, Aunt, and best friend-Dax-help her drown her sorrows in tequila. When Aunt Livi suggests they preform a “love cleanse” from a magic book that was recently donated to her used book shop, they are all too drunk to see any reason not to. When Gemma wakes up the next morning, it doesn’t take her long to realize that something is horribly wrong. She’s in a parallel universe where she never met, never dated her ex, Stuart. But in this world she also never became best friends with Dax. Would you cleanse your life of the things that caused you pain if it also meant losing someone that brought you happiness? Would it be worth it?

This book was so incredibly good. It drops you almost immediately into the thick of the plot, so I was hooked from the first chapter. It’s fast paced but still full of drama and humor and plenty of steamy tension between the MCs.

If you like friends to lovers, soul mates, quirky Aunts, and a little bit of magic, you will love this book.

I would say this is witchy/spell adjacent and not really fitting for the fall/halloween vibe which is what I was hoping for from the title. Overall it was a cute read, but nothing majorly notable that I loved or didn’t love. There were also parts that didn’t make sense in a practical way that were hard to overlook.

A light, cute rom com with a twist of magical realism that’s great for kicking off your stack of fall reads.

Overall, I enjoyed this book! I love a friends to lovers trope, and this one did not disappoint; however, I did wish that the beginning of the book spent more time establishing their friendship/history before we see their relationship blossom in the parallel universe. I think it would have made for a stronger story if we could have seen (instead of being told) how strong their friendship was.

You think you have your life all figured out. If only I hadn't wasted time with him. If only I could take that time back. Well, maybe it would be different, but then again who knows? Well, I know now that I read this book. I love this book! I love the idea of this book. I love the characters. I love the execution of the story. It's not the usual result you get with one of these what if books. I love the relationship between the aunt and the nieces. I love the sisters working to get to a place of empowerment. This book surpassed all my expectations. I thoroughly recommend this!

This reminded me of 13 going on 30 but the adult version which is basically a dream come true. This was friends to lovers goodness with the perfect balance of high jinx and “awwww” moments. I’m already preordering a physical copy I loved this so much, thanks so much for the ARC!

Who wouldn't want to erase an ex from your past?

Gemma has just been dumped--what's worse that the relationship wasn't even great, and she still got her heart broken. In a drunk haze, she jokingly casts a spell to make it so she had never dated her ex--she just needs to seal the deal with a kiss from her best friend Dax.

Gemma wakes up and gets her wish, but in this new timeline she never met Dax and they never became best friends. More than erasing her past with her ex, she wants Dax back in her life.

I've never liked the friends-to-lovers trope but I am always looking for the book that proves me wrong, and Kate Robb hit the mark. The book makes a point to discuss how relationship dynamics change when one friend falls for another, and this, apart from the spell gone wrong, is the main conflict. The shifting timelines solidify that Gemma and Dax have a special connection that defies time.

They had a sweet relationship, and I loved the tension of wanting someone you shouldn't really. Gemma and Dax are friends first, which is a strong foundation for how they treat each other as romantic partners. I would've loved to see more of Dax in the original timeline though and I would've LOVED to see something from his point of view.

Overall, this was a solid romcom! I love when romcoms feel exactly how I feel when watching a romcom.

What a perfect debut novel! Magical realism + second chance romance + dual timelines.

When Gemma and her straight laced, good on paper, boyfriend, Stuart break up she (and her sister and aunt) do a spell to “go back to the beginning” so that the relationship with Stuart never happened.
The next morning she wakes up to a different life, where her best friend Dax doesn’t know who she is and she has a clean beauty small business (her dream!).

As she navigates a ‘do over’ with Dax and re-evaluates her life, she wants Dax to be more than her best friend.
She decides to go back to her original timeline/life because she sees that her changes, changed everything for Dax.

This Spells Love is a sweet friends to lvoers second chance romance with the perfect spritz of magical realism. I thought the main characters were great. Even though Gemma was a little annoying at times, she does experience some much needed character growth that helped. I like how the author addresses the time old question of "What if I had made other choices" that I'm sure we have all asked ourselves at one time or another. It was well thought out and I like that there was no clear right or wrong choice for the FMC until the end. It made her more believeable as a real human being. The MMC was wonderful. Strong supportive best friend type. This book is marketed as a rom com and though it had its funny moments I feel like a lot of them would have come off better on screen and some of them were a little cringe. Overall this was a solid read and I will be checking Kate Robb out in the future.

Overall I enjoyed this book, it’s a book that sat with me a bit after I finished it.

At times I felt like it was a bit all over the place, but maybe that’s a bit normal when you’re reading magical realism.

I really loved the friends to lovers in this. My only two things I wish were a bit different is I don’t feel like we really got much or Dax’s side which could have made this really really cute. Although I think it was clear how he felt about her, I wish this was a dual POV. I also wish when she changed timelines that there was more to her life than just lusting after Dax. I really liked Gemma as a character and would have loved for her to be a bit more dimensional.

Besides that, I thought the magical realism was done well, I loved aunt livi (hi, poodle) and I thought Gemma was funny, I liked that she was successful and family oriented. Dax seemed sweet and perfect and I loved the two of them together.

This Spells Love

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Awww such a cute book! I’m not always a fan of the wish/do over trope, but I thought this one was well done.

Gemma was broken up with her boyfriend of 4 years and wishes it never happened. But as her wish comes true, much of her life has shifted, including her best friend Dax. She works through figuring out what she wants while trying to help those around her.

I thought this was such a warm cozy book. I picked it up thinking it might have witchy fall vibes with the curse, but it could honestly be read anytime of year!

Thanks to @netgalley for this ARC!

I’m new to reading fantasy so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book - but what I received was a really well written and charming book. The female main character got on my nerves because she was a bit selfish but in the end it just ended up being a quirky part of her. I would definitely recommend this book to people who are new or experienced with fantasy!

This was such a cute romcom! It was my first time reading anything by this author and I really enjoyed it! There were moments that I wasn’t a huge fan of the main female character, she could be so dang selfish! I realized quickly that this was part of her character development. I ended up loving how it all turned out!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Kate Robb for the advance read copy!
