ooh, what a fun surprise! I liked this so much more than I even expected to! Gemma and Dax are amazing characters to explore, in BOTH timelines, and I loved that the secondary characters added so much to the story!
Gemma and Stuart have been dating for 4 years. When he breaks it off, Gemma’s aunt casts a spell to heal heartbreak. Dax is her best friend and is a part of this spell taking place. When she wakes up, she finds herself in an alternate universe. In this universe she falls for Dax, but a lot of bad things happen. When the month is over, they can cast another spell to hopefully return to the present. This is a great book. It was interesting to see a different side to Dax when he dates Gemma. I loved the close relationship she had with her sister and how she came to realize not everything is about her. Great love story; humorous and full of fun.
Loved this book & can't wait to see what this author comes out with next! The friends to lovers trope told in a fresh new way with just a little bit of magic thrown in, the perfect combo for me. Add in some quirky family members and some steamy love scenes (NOT closed doors) and it just keeps getting better. Perfect for all romance fans out there & I can't wait until it's released!
This was a fun, sexy rom-com novel. I loved the whole premise that one wish could show you what your life might have been like. Gemma has just been dumped by her boyfriend of four years. In an attempt to cheer her up, her aunt, sister, and best friend, Dax, have a pity party for her and perform a love cleansing spell that works a little too well. Gemma is transported into a life where she owns her own dream business but her best friend has no idea who she is. Gemma is horrified that Dax is not in her life so she comes up with a plan to win him back but things go horribly wrong when she tries to meet him and reveals she knows information about him. Luckily her aunt and sister seem to be the same. Gemma has to get Dax back in her life if she is ever going to be able to replicate the spell and get back to her own timeline. However as she gets comfortable in her new timeline she finds that she may not want to return.
I fell in love with this fast- paced steamy novel. There was some excellent romance and it had a great story line. An excellent book to escape the world with!
Thank you to Dial Press/Random House and NetGalley for this ARC.
I just finished This Spells, Love. Thank you @netgalley, @randomhouse, and @songofmyshelf for the copy. I really enjoyed this book. It was different than other romance books I have read. If you love magic and alternate universes this is the book for you. Gemma goes to her Aunt's to hang out and drink margaritas and commiserate over a breakup with her aunt and sister. Her best friend Dax comes over and they decide to try a spell that will hopefully cleanse Gemma and help her overcome her heartbreak.
This was a fun read. I loved the story and how the characters interact with each other before and after the spell and how they navigate each other. Will best friends finally realize they love each other or will they stay best friends?
Thank you Random House and NetGalley for this ARC!!
After a recent breakup and on a drunken whim, Gemma goes along with her eccentric aunt’s idea to try a love cleansing spell they find in an old battered book.
Much to her surprise, she wakes up in an alternate timeline, one in which she never dated her ex. Determined to get unstuck from this alternate reality, she has one month to reverse the spell by repeating it exactly as it was first performed. This includes sealing it with a kiss from her best friend. The problem is, her best friend Dax has no idea who she is anymore.
I enjoyed this story immensely. It was cute and clever. One of those cartoon covers that surprise you with the originality and depth in the story behind the cover. I was excited to discover that this wasn’t a story about witches in an urban fantasy setting. This is a contemporary setting with magic realism.
I enjoyed Gemma’s character, the endearing kind of hot mess. Her relationship with herself, her sister, and her aunt were well developed and endearingly real.
The hilarious shenanigans she encounters on the path to winning over her best friend Dax were heartachingly sweet. I was laughing along the way but found myself completely invested in this HEA and I couldn’t put it down. Best friends to lovers will always cause me angst! I enjoyed the conflict and twist in this story so much. My sci-fi brain was geeking out. After all, you can’t mess with the space time continuum without consequences right?
I think fans of Stephanie Archer will enjoy this.
I was very impressed with this debut author and I will be watching for what she puts out next!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun rom com with an alternate timeline twist and I loved it so much! Gemma is going through a bad breakup at the beginning of the book and she wishes that she could go back in time and never start dating him in the first place. Her Aunt Livi owns a book store and just so happens to have a book with a spell that might make her wish come true. Gemma, her aunt, her sister (Kiersten), and her best friend, Daxon all perform a spell from the book after way too many margaritas. What could possibly go wrong?
I really enjoyed the alternate reality twist. I always love a good friends to lovers romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the laugh out loud humor throughout the book. This was a fun, quick, and easy read that I gobbled up in a little over a day. Highly recommended!
What a story cute romance mixed with a twist of magic!
Gemma was just broken up with and is drowning her sorrows in tequila. Her quirky a aunt has just the thing for her. A spell for forgetting. She then wakes up in an alternate universe and her best friend Dax doesn't even know her!
Thank you to netgalley and Random house for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review!
After Gemma and her long time boyfriend break up, she ends up drunkenly finding a spell to make the entire relationship go away. Unfortunately, that sends her to an alternate timeline where she also hasn’t met her best guy friend, Jax. As Gemma tries to befriend Jax in her new timeline, she realizes that maybe he was the one for her all this time. But how will she decide where she truly belongs..?
I really enjoyed this book! Usually timeline stories stress be out because the way they resolve can be disappointing.. but I really liked how this one wrapped up!!
I was sent this book as an early release and din't think much of it because who doesn't love free books? However, I am SO GLAD I was sent this book and decided to read it because it has quickly become my favorite read of the year!
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you changed one decision in your life? If you're like me, you've definitely spiraled on all the potential what-if scenarios in your head. This book satisfies all those what-if thoughts in your head. The main character, Gemma, is recently heartbroken after a breakup with her boyfriend, Stuart. On the night she met Stuart, she also met her best friend, Dax. Gemma starts to wonder what would happen if she never met Stuart. Would she never meet Dax? Where would her life take her? And she quickly finds out as she's thrown into an alternate timeline. Does she stay in this timeline and risk losing her best friend Dax, or does she return home to the life she knows?
This book had me engaged from page one. It's well written, funny, romantic, and everything good you want in a book. I highly HIGHLY recommend picking this one up when it hits the shelves on October 10, 2023!
Thank you Net Galley for the ARC. I really enjoyed this book. It was a lot of fun and I loved the romance. I am not usually a fan of fantasy time travel/dimensional change type premises but every once in awhile an author gets it right and it just works. This is one of those times. It wasn't hokey or weird. It worked well and the author resolved the glitch in a good way. I loved that it was set in Hamilton. It felt like I was getting a tour of the town that I haven't been to in years and I want to visit now. A great light read. I definitely recommend this one.
This was the cutest angsty romance, oh my heart! I want all romances to be like this. Highly reocmmended if you want your heart torn out and stitched back together in a single night.
i adored this book so much!!
i loved all the characters, especially Dax and Aunt Livi!
"slip of the tongue?" "something like that" ahhhhhh be still my heart!!
As a Hamiltonian i loved that this book was set in Hamilton, there's just something about reading a book set where you live, like ooh i know Bayfront park and Hess village.
this book was funny and sweet and a bit spicy.
i wish i could read this book again for the first time and i would definitely recommend that anyone who likes a rom com give this one a go.
thank you to random house and netgalley for giving me an opportunity to love this book!!
This was your cutesy, average, every day RomCom and I did like it! It could have used that wow factor, but in the end it was still cute.
A breakup is never a great way to start, or end, a day. But most people bury their sorry in a pint of ice cream. Not Gemma Wilde. She follows along with her odd-ball aunt and older sister when they encourage her to use a "spell for forgetting." A ridiculous idea in theory, until Gemma wakes up to realize that the life she had is no longer the one she's living, including her handsome best friend, who no longer remembers her. What happens next is a series of mishaps, missteps, and self-realization, not to mention good old-fashioned fun. Author Kate Robb has created a charming and engaging trip through the unexpected that will surely delight her readers with every page turn.
Add this magical romance to your summer list! When Gem and her long term boyfriend break up, she leans on her big sister and their aunt - who owns a bookstore focusing on magic - for support. When, they try out a spell one drunken night, she realizes that you don't always get what you were hoping; sometimes, if you're lucky, you get more!
Gemma goes through a bad breakup and after a literal spell, ends up in an alternate universe where she has to kiss her best friend, Dax, to get back to her real life. I liked the idea of the set up but the execution didn't land for me. Gemma was a hot and cold character, sometimes I found her observations of other people to be cruel or annoying, but overall she was fine. Dax was the classic archetype of a Good Guy and I'm sure lots of people will love him, but he felt flat to me. It was funny to read a book set in a city I'm familiar with and thought their chemistry was good. There were a lot of sections that felt unnecessary to moving the plot forward or developing any of the characters. I definitely prefer romances that lean more literary fiction that sweet and simple, but this book felt like it needed more of a buy-in for me to be enjoyable. Overall, I found this to be a cute book that witih solid writing, and I'm sure lots of people will love it.
This is one of the cutest, most clever novels I've read and I absolutely adored it! Gemma breaks up with longtime boyfriend, Stuart and drowns her sorrows with sister Kiersten by eating donuts and drinking. Best friend Dax is always a shoulder to cry on, but something odd happens when Gemma's eccentric Aunt Livi convinces her to allow a spell to be cast. And things get caught in a time warp; that's the only way to describe it! And really, who wouldn't like to live in an alternate reality some of the time? It's charming and sweet, often bittersweet but just the kind of book that makes me smile!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
Is it a spell for forgetting or 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦?
𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 follows Gemma who didn't see her breakup coming. She thought it was going good, monotonous but good. Taken aback by the recent news, she's drunkenly tries a spell to forget ever meeting her ex. Only the spell doesn't work as planned and she wakes up in another lifetime where her bestfriend's got no idea who she is and the moon setting needed to undo the spell is not for another month so she's got time to befriend her "bestfriend" and steal a kiss to reverse her fate. Only this time around, they aren't stopping at the friendzone but treading the edge of love.

This was the most oddly wholesome book and surprisingly spicy for a romantic comedy (only the best ones are).
All the characters and their inter-relationships were gold in this story.
Gemma's sort of predictable in the real lifetime but she learns to let loose in the alternate one. She decides to no longer stick to only what she know and brave the wild unknown. This results in is a stronger, impressive version of her.

𝘏𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴. "𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵."
And Dax? That man is whipped for her in either lifetime. Bestfriends or strangers, their relationship exceeds the limits of space. And have I mentioned that booty?
Something I also adored was Gemma and her sister's relationship, they both have their ups and downs but one thing remains constant: that their bond transcends the multiverse.

This was such a fun book, I loved it! The premise was very interesting to me because I love these type of "What ifs" stories, so I was hooked. Gemma and Dax were so cute together and I could feel the love between them, my only small (minimal) complaint is that I wish we had seen more of them as friends in the original timeline. But to be honest that didn't even bother me much because I loved seeing their bond grow throughout the book. The romance was good and Gemma's development was great, I loved seeing her grow and realize how bad her previous relationship had been.
All in all I had a lot of fun with this book and I can't wait for everyone to read!
