Wow!!! This book got me out of my reading slump for sure. I could not stop reading or thinking about it. The book is told from Summer and Leo’s point of view in alternating chapters. The chapters are pretty short so it’s easy to lose track of time while reading. Summer is a skilled pickpocket as she grew up with a mother that was homeless by choice. Summer enjoys the freedom of living in her van and going wherever her mood takes her. Leo is Summer’s sister by choice and they have a very tight bond. Leo’s skills are more in the area of seducing very rich men. Leo has her sights set on Michael a billionaire environmentalist that she feels real chemistry with. Leo sets up a chance meeting with Michael and they hit it off quickly. When Leo doesn’t call Summer to pick her up the next morning at their designated time Sumner starts to become very worried. Summer finagles an invite to Michael’s private island for a work retreat with one of Michael’s coworkers. Now Summer is on an island with no connection to the outside world. She will have to use all of her skills to find Leo and get off the island. This book shows the possibilities of what the very wealthy can get away with if they want to. Thank you to Netgalley and Bantam books for the opportunity to read this adavanced copy. I loved this book and am now going to look at Wendy Heard’s backlist.
This was a quintessential, juicy beach read. Summer and Leo are two women who are smart, determined, and of course have found themselves in a bind (without giving too much away). I found the two female protagonists to be relatable in some ways and always entertaining to read. While some of the plot was a tad far-fetched, that didn’t detract from the readability. The female relationships and high stakes drama kept this book moving and unputdownable. A lot of the twists were predictable, but it didn’t make it any less fun. This is The Most Dangerous Game for millennial women. Save this book for summer by the beach or pool! Thank you Wendy Heard, Penguin Random House, and Netgalley for the ARC!
This book had me hooked from the start. I was so invested in Leo and Summer's lives and felt for the situation they were in that is sadly so real. At times I was annoyed by Leo's naivety but felt good that she has Summer to back her up.
That said, I felt like I kept waiting for more. I felt the storyline was great but something was lacking to really tie it all together. I wish there was more on Michael, his darker side and history on the island.
Thank you for the ARC and I'm glad I got to read this one.
"You Can Trust Me" may be my first book by this author. It starts as a slow burn but then really picks up and gathers momentum. I found this to be a fast fun read and different from the kinds of books I normally read. Two girls who live in a van and make their living by stealing from others?! Then one of the girls goes missing...
I liked the friendship aspect between the two characters and I became intrigued wanting to know why Leo disappeared. I think this will be a great beach read for Summer 2023! 3.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐
A big thank you to and Random House Publishing Group/Ballantyne and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!
The dastardly behavior of the filthy rich + all the insider scoop about deception and pickpocketing = such a fun ride!
Summer and Leo, each have their own traumatic reasons for living the way they have chosen. No permanent address, no corporate climbing the ladder jobs, and definitely a whole lot of heartache in each of their rearview mirrors. But they did find each other. Summer took the younger Leo under her wing, and now they are sisters, always having each other’s back.
That is until Leo sets her sights on the billionaire Michael Forrester. You see, Summer and Leo are criminals. Stealing enough to get by and always keeping one step ahead of the law. But Leo actually likes Michael, a plus when you consider what she is willing to do to become his significant other with access to his bank account. When she doesn’t come home after her date with Michael, Summer is half frantic, half livid. Is Leo having such a good time that she would let Summer worry? Or is there more going on after her date with Michael? Summer is determined to find Leo, though what she uncovers may cost these two friends everything.
Summer and Leo were both great characters. Each of them have been traumatized in different ways, but were lucky enough to find each other. If I had to choose my favorite, it would be Summer. I could not imagine being raised the way she was, and still having so much compassion and love for Leo. A fast paced story that I finished in a day. I was definitely surprised by one of the “what” twists!
You Can Trust me immediately sparked my interest because the main characters just seemed cool and different than female leads in recent books. Two nomad best friends are forging their own path and taking down rich men in their wake. Loved them from the get go and the beginning on the story. Halfway through the book I began to lose interest as the story line felt way too far fetched and predictable. I wanted a twist I didn’t see coming and this one just didn’t have that for me. I look forward to more books from this author!
Thank you a million times over to NetGalley and the publishers for this e-ARC. This was such a page turner, it wasn't something I would have normally gravitated towards, but I am so happy I tried it, because I think I found a new favorite genre & author! Formal review will be available on GoodReads, socials & Amazon.
This book was definitely a page turner! I started it late in the day and struggled with putting it down. It’s told in alternating viewpoints between Leo and Summer, two drifters who make due in the world by sticking together and stealing from people. They had different home lives growing up and found each other by chance.
Leo has a mark that is a billionaire she is trying to land to get some cash and pay Summer back for helping her out. Leo spends the night with him and Summer is worried something happened. The story goes from there…
This book was really interesting and had a couple of twists that I didn’t predict. I did enjoy it, even in the ending was a bit too neat.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
In Wendy Heard’s latest, You Can Trust Me, Summer is a wanderer. A grifter. Someone who has had to find a way to survive. Leo is grieving. Healing from the untimely murder of her sister. Feeling guilt at keeping secrets about that fateful night that was her sister’s last. They find each other by chance and in each other, find the family they are missing. But the life they lead is a dangerous one. They survive by pickpocketing and scamming people. While they’ve had success, they finally meet their match in a self-made billionaire, Michael, that Leo has her eyes on to blackmail for a huge payout.
When Leo disappears after a night with Michael at a party he has for investors, Summer finagles a way to be invited to Michael’s private island by one of his top researchers. What follows is a game of cat and mouse in Summer’s quest to find out what happened to Leo. Fast paced, edge of the seat with great female lead characters, Heard keeps you hooked to the end. What happened to Leo? Is Summer going to find her alive or will her search for Leo cost her her own life? My only reason not to go 5 stars is that the back and forth timeline was a bit confusing until I caught on to the difference in what day Summer’s story was on compared to Leo’s. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballentine for the advanced copy. Opinions expressed are my own. This book is set for publication on June 13, 2023.

This was a fun, fast-paced read. I wasn’t necessarily gripped by this story but it was very entertaining. There was some level of mystery to this story. I felt like it was more of a thriller though. There were many times were I had to suspend my disbelief.
I like the underlying messages about friendship and sisterhood. There was a lot of “girl power” in this story, which I enjoyed. I also like the protagonists, Summer and Leo. I related a bit more to Summer than Leo. I appreciated how Michael’s character was kind of like Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg. That was pretty amusing. I’m guessing the author feels a certain type of way about these kind of men. It would’ve been nice if I got a little more background information on Michael’s character. I was hoping that, towards the end of the book, we’d get a chapter from Michael’s POV.
This was a solid book of the thriller genre. If you enjoy thrillers, you’ll also probably enjoy this book. I might pick up another book by this author.
Two best friends scam their way through California's Tech Bad Boys. But this may be the final grift!
Summer and Leo share a bond. Homeless and broke, they find each other on the streets. Both have tragic backgrounds but now they have each other's backs.
Living in Summer’s Land Cruiser is not the life they want long term, but they could be just one score away from the good life. Only you know that isn’t going to happen.
Summer is a skilled pickpocket and Leo knows a few tricks herself. But are they hunting for a new mark or is the mark hunting them?
When Leo meets billionaire, Michael Forrester, she is sure her charms are working on him when he invites her to his private island. When Summer doesn’t hear from her she will go after her and find herself in the same trouble.
With Leo missing and Summer in a dicey situation this may be the end for both of them.

Thank you to random house publishing and NetGalley for the ARC!!
I really liked the writing of this book. Didn’t personally love summer or Leo as characters. Good read, but not usually something I’m into
A heart-pounding, page-turning, psychological thriller. Summer and Leo are best friends, soul sisters, ride or dies. Both endured cruel, horrific upbringings and now that they've found each other, they are two broken halves of an imperfect whole. They are grifters and pickpockets, they bait wealthy men. They've fabricated a perfect little life together...until one goes missing.
This book had such a great summary, I knew I had to read it! I haven't read any Wendy Heard before and I didn't know what to expect, but it immediately got me and pulled me in. The characters are so fun and written so well that they were very distinct in my mind. I loved the storyline and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next! The twist at the end was pretty predictable, but I still enjoyed getting there and overall loved the book! Cant wait to recommend to everyone when it comes out June 13!
You Can Trust Me grabs your attention from the start and keeps you hooked. I enjoyed having the opportunity to read this. But it will be a perfect summer thrill ride.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced digital copy of this book.
Well, this was such a fun romp with a couple of homeless girls searching for adventure while lifting wallets from unsuspecting dates and party goers in Southern California. The story really begins when they are separately transported to an island by a couple of guys they are trying to grift, and they are forced to use their survival skills to actually save their very lives. Leo and Summer learn and incredible lesson on the strength of friendship and love, and what "Home" actually can mean.
This is a fast read - I couldn't wait to find out how the book would end. Leo and Summer are fairly well developed characters and I was really rooting for them! Would recommend this book for great beach entertainment!
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review You Can Trust Me.
I enjoyed the chosen family relationship here. A quick read that kept me on my toes with a few what is this doing in here scenes
Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review
This book was ok. I liked the initial set up with Leo and Summer fleecing the tech tycoon, but when the twist came with Leo and her sister it just seemed like too much of a reach.
* Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC! *
I really enjoyed this book. I read it in one sitting, while 0n a plane.
You get to really know and learn to love Summer and Leo, the protagonists. The few assumptions I made while reading had me second-guessing where I thought the story was going.
I give it 4 stars. It kept me on my toes and had me go through several emotions.
