This book was so freaking cute. I loved it so much. It wasn't an 'anti-fairytale' it was more a NEW kind of fairy tale. It was so sweet. I loved the idea of Bella finding her own path in life and making her own way. Screw prince charming, i'm going to save myself. It was so perfect.
And @josiejanefox did such a great job with the narration. The scene where she's trying to hide while talking to her friend. and trying to be normal. I could FEEL the anxiety. it was just perfection.
Thnak you both so much for creating this so perfectly!!
I laughed so hard during parts of this book. I loved the narrator! She did a fabulous job with the accent and all the characters.
Quick fun read
But quite different take on romance
A Perfect example of how sometimes what we're looking for has always been around & we haven't really been seeing at the right places!
Like the narration of the book though I have a love hate relationship with the main character Bella
This book had quite the intro with a very spicy scene right upfront.
Bella, the main character, is very unlikeable and downright annoying for the entirety of this book. While there is character development over time, I can’t seem to understand how anyone likes her. She’s quite frankly a horrible person and just completely clueless about how to be good.
I think the narrator perfectly portrayed the irritating character that Bella is.
Wow, sometimes you just need a fun, not too serious, romantic journey. With lots of downs, some ups and some self reflections along the way. "Not That Kind of Ever After" offers just that.
Bella Marble's parents love story was a romantic fairy tale beginning. That's how she's always expected her own would be. But when that doesn't seem to be happening she goes in search of her own fairy tale men, sleeping her way through her own Disney cast of characters. This proves fruitful for her own dreams of becoming a writer too as she tells of her experiences through the comedic lens of her writing.
This funny tale, light hearted tale, is exactly what brought come to expect and love about romance reads. Lightening the mood with oft times heavy themes, this well narrated, well written story was enjoyable and witty.
This book was delightful! I love the different directions it went. It was really engaging and funny while also being sweet and romantic! It also really illustrated the struggles with change I think we all feel at some point and the different ways friendships change over time. I loved it!
I received a free audiobook of this from NetGalley.
This was a lot of fun! I enjoyed the twist on the fairytales and the growth of the FMC. Felt akin to Bridget Jones’ Diary, meets Grimm’s fairy tales.
I didn’t think the romance between the FMC and MMC was very well fleshed out, though. He was kind of a cardboard cutout and I don’t really think the focus of this book was the romance, so the advertising may be a bit off. There was definitely more effort put into showing her relationship with her best friend, which was really well done!
Oh, my goodness, Not That Kind of Ever After by Luci Adams had me in stitches! This unique coming-of-age story was absolutely hysterical. The narrator, Josie Charles, did a fantastic job and brought the story to life. While this one bordered a little bit on a pity party, it also rang quite true. My main takeaway was that you can't sit around waiting for a fairy godmother to create your happily ever after. Sometimes, you need to take a step back and figure out the important things in life. All Bella has ever wanted was to be recognized as a writer. Trying to combat her writer's block, she concocts the perfect "fairy tale" story from her experiences with a series of bad dates and one-night stands. I found Bella to be such an interesting character. I enjoyed watching her character develop and grow as she navigated this period in her life. I loved the author's take on the perils and struggles of online dating. This one was a fun and unique book that I really enjoyed!
Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio, for gifting me an advanced copy of this audiobook
Bella is an aspiring author who instead is a receptionist for a literary agent. She also isn't where she wants to be in her personal life, always looking for that HEA. When her post on an app where people can share and review stories starts to gain some traction she essentially goes viral. The story chronicles her journey in a somewhat magical way, to find her own happily ever after.
This book was entertaining. I felt like Bella was an interesting character with a quick wit who kept me engaged. While some of the stories about Bella's dating life felt a little fantastical, the overall story and characters kept me interested and engaged.
I bounced back and forth between the audio book narration and the ebook of this one. I thought the narration by Josie Charles was actually really compelling and helped suck me into the story. I would certainly recommend checking out the audio book of this one.
Overall I would give this one 3.5 stars.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an EARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for this #gifted audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
So, I think this book had all the bones of an amazing and funny story. However it didn't quite work for me.
This book is character driven and we see Bella make a lot of choices that really made me want to bang my head against a wall. There is definitely character development towards the end, but there are several mini episodes of "epiphanies" but they are all so far off base that it makes the final scene a bit lacking in impact. If that make sense?
I basically was not a fan of Bella throughout the book, and her big moment of realization just fell flat for me.
1 did love Marty. He was an amazing MMC. I enjoyed reading when he was in the scene.
As this is an audiobook, I'll mention that the narrator was great! I think she brought the characters to life well!
DNF just not a fan of this one. The main character is not a good person and was annoying to read but not even in a growing kinda way if that makes sense. She was super obsessed with her best friend but did not actually care about her or what she actually wanted. I just didn't want to suffer through the whole book when I have so many other things I am super excited to read. Narrator was very good and super short chapters so it would be a quick read.
This book is a love letter to any people who have loved fairytales growing up. This story is about Bella and her struggle to find love and through some twists and turns she finds herself writing about the frogs she ends up kissing along the way to find her prince.
Our main character can be a bit frustrating at times but once I saw her start falling you can't help but root for her. I felt like her struggle of getting carried away by the story of things was really relatable. And the man she finds is so great. I really found myself rooting for him once she sees him for what he is.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a rom-com who loves fairytales. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this story.
The premise of this book is amazing. Bella loves books, and she dreams of her own happily ever after. All she wants is a guy who looks like Ryan Gosling, loves dogs, and wants children.
She’s had a decade of rejection, but she’s still hopeful, even though her dates suck.
So she might as well write about them in her blog and make something out of it, right? (Carrie Bradshaw vibes!)
The book is cute, and Bella goes through things that most single women have been through when it comes to dates.
My issue with her is she’s so annoying, childish, and selfish. She needs therapy. I had to constantly remind myself that she’s 30, not 18. Like, WTH Bella?
Even though I hated Bella, I liked the references to fairy tales, and I kinda liked how it ended. Not a mindblowing book, but good enough. And the cover is cute!
Thank you @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for this advanced audio copy of “Not That Kind of Ever After.”
After reading some pretty heavy books recently, I was in the need for something light, and this fit it perfectly. With a little bit of Bridget Jones combined any modern day fairy tale, this story is about Bella who is trying to cope, and not well with her stagnant life while everyone else is changing around her. Her best friend is engaged, her parents are divorcing, and her life is still answering phones dreaming of her prince and becoming an author. So, she begins a project to try and change her life.

Having the audiobook version of this gave me a bit of a different perspective, our narrator Josie Charles was fantastic and breathed life into our characters.
Bella and Ellie have been best friends for longer than either of them wants to admit, they've seen the highs and the lows and helped each other through all of it.
Bella is working at a small publishing firm and while she doesn't hate her job it's not her dream job, which would be being a published author.
Through a series of unfortunate (or fortunate depending on how you look at it) events Bella finds herself trying to find her prince charming in the world of online dating.
When Ellie gets engaged to Mark (someone Bella does not like at all and thinks isn't nearly good enough for her friend) she starts thinking about her own big white wedding.
What happens from there is funny and at times spicey and fun to read, unfortunately, it was just a tad predictable, from the moment Ellie says what about (I'm not going to ruin it) and Bella responds the way she does I just knew who the "Prince Charming" was going to be.
Thank you to MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for providing an advance copy of this Audiobook, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

🎧Song Pairing: Ever After - Bonnie Bailey
💭What I thought would happen:
I was here for the cover and title tbh was hoping for a retelling.
📖What actually happens:
Bella is an aspiring writer working at a literary house as a receptionist when she has the brilliant idea to start turning her life into modern day fairytales through one night stands (ie the Big Bad Wolf, Pied Piper, Prince Charming). She signs up on a beta reader website and submits chapter by chapter and is shocked when she gets positive feedback.
While the beginning of her writing career finally takes off her better half, Ellie, gets engaged to the insufferable Mark and will be moving out. Mark is always undermining Bella and ripping Ellie away from her. She wants things to go back to how they used to be.
🗯Thoughts:
The beginning had me kind of bored THEN it actually got quite intriguing and I was cruising through THEN there was 💯 unnecessary conflict and the book went too long and had me going 🤦🏼♀️
The MC is actually an awful character. She treats everyone as disposable or the bad guy. While sometimes she is the victim, most of the time she’s just a real asshole. At least there is a character arc where improvement is made.
This book was 10/10 unnecessarily long. At first I was like how does this book have such a low GoodReads rating (3.27) around 80% I definitely understood. I literally said out loud you stupid entitled bitch.
Loved the concept and definitely loved certain parts but there was major room for improvements for this one to be stellar! Mic drop.

"Maybe your just in the wrong fairytale."
Maybe fairy tales are make believe for a reason. Not That Kind Of Ever After by debut author Luci Adams takes a look at how fairy tales, though often entertaining, lead to false expectations and can stop you from living your own truth.
Things aren't even close to happily ever after for Bella. She's a receptionist not a writer, her best friend Ellie has moved out to live with her boyfriend Mark, her new roommates are bizarre, her parents are divorcing, and every date ends without a second date.
When Bella writes a story about a bad first date that ends with a villain and not Prince Charming it goes viral and she becomes a social media star known as @b.enchanted with over a million followers. There's a book deal in her future now. She's serial dating not to find a soulmate but for stories about bad dates. She isn't talking to Elle because of a misunderstanding with Mark, and the only person hanging out with her is Marty, Elle's brother. Too bad she's so self centered and not noticing his interest in her.
Narrator Josie Charles nails it with Bella being a bit whiny, unhappy, selfish and even childish at the beginning of the story. She is still the little girl who wants to be a princess. She even leaves a shoe with her phone number on it to see if her prince will find it. Even if he doesn't, it will be a great chapter in her book.
For me this was more a coming of age story where Bella learns we are not princesses but Queens, we can rescue ourselves, and it's okay to not have a fairytale happily ever after as long as we are happy with ourselves.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from MacMillan Audio via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.
This was not what I expected - IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE!
It was like I wanted a RomCom with more Rom than Com when I planned to start this, but then in the opening paragraph alone, I knew it was EXACTLY what I needed at that time.
I absolutely LOVED the writing, the timing and the story kept me wanting more!
I want to thank NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with an audiobook version of this publication. In return, I have promised to provide an unbiased review.
I was so happy to receive this audiobook ARC from the publishers. From the description I thought this would be a funny rom-com, but is was more of a reckless pity party. I only made it 30% in and had to DNF. The main character was to self centered and whiny. This book was not for me.
This book was not for me, unfortunately. There were definitely a few laugh out loud moments, but the story telling felt strange. There was way too much fluff for me.
