A wonderful book for aspiring founders who are struggling in their day to day business life. As an upcoming founder myself, I found the book inspiring. The author helps us in understanding the sacrifices and shortcomings faced by new businesses in the initial stages. He also shared his personal experiences which were truly provides an insight. Also, the author emphasizes on Work- Life balance which I think is the most important thing. I liked the narrator's voice and really enjoyed the book.
Definitely, 5 stars for the book. Thanks to Forbes Books and Netgalley for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book.
Let me start by saying, business books like this are a dime a dozen and if you really want to learn how to start your own business, you're better off taking an actual business course at your local university.
This this book promised to teach me: how to become a professional problem solver. Incorrect - this book just stressed that it's important to be able to solve problems and deal with issues in the moment, not necessarily how to solve the problems as they come or what it takes to solve problems. Lafleur offered some anecdotal snippets of his time in business, but that's not necessarily a ground breaking resource.
You know what, I was going to list out each point he wanted to address, but it really all boils down to one point, this is more or a business memoir and less of an educational "how-to" book. This is fine, really, it's just that the small print should share that it's "What no one else has the guts to teach you about 'how he started his own business'" not necessarily how you will start your own business. Except for a tiny bit about financials, and the breakdown of angel investors versus venture capitalists, this really was less educational and more a "how I made my lucky break in business" book.
This was an audio version of the book narrated by the author himself and he really is quite enthusiastic to share his story and his thoughts, so bravo to him for that.
Thanks to Advantage Media Group, Forbes Books for the advanced audiobook via NetGalley!
