Medieval, Scottish Historical Fiction
Ferchar is the son of a priest, and affrica is the daughter of a prominent noble family. From childhood, they developed a strong bond. However, noblewomen and priests’ sons did not marry. Rebellion, war, and treachery governed their time. Ferchar was loyal to the Scottish king. Could his loyalty change his fate? I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to those who like Scottish historical fiction. There was romance, but because it was based on historical facts, fictionalized, I would consider it more of a historical fiction than historical romance. It is an action-packed, richly detailed story.

Alright you wonderful readers. Affrica is my favorite character in this book The story holds a lot of information during the times where things are still tense among the Scottish and British borders. Adfrica and Frecher find solace in their ever growing friendship since childhood. As the two face their own paths in different directions somehow they find their way back. This is where the entertainment picks up and pushes the book to a pleasant read. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in the Last Flame of Alba series, and a brilliant addition to the series. Affrica and Ferchar have known each other since they were children, but only meet on occasion throughout the years. Their path was complicated with war and family. But when danger threatens Affrica, Ferchar is there to protect her.
The story was exciting and packed with action and the twists and turns in the plot kept me on the edge of my seat, anxious to see what happens next. The story kept me engrossed from start to finish and was an absolutely wonderful read. The series is wonderful and this was a fantastic addition.
I received a complimentary copy from Dragonblade Publishing via Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

5 stars
An excellent finale to the Alba Trilogy. Affrica is a small girl, only nine at the start of the book, beloved of her father Angus and her grandfather, the seer from the first two books. Her cousin Kenneth is not very trust worthy even though he's supposed to be the Laird. Ferchar is Affrica's friend, though he is at least 5 years older. She helps him when Kenneth was going to treat him poorly. They meet again when he's studying in Paris and he realises that evil people are about to try and abduct her so they can have influence her father. I was a bit dismayed when Ferchar gets married to Lady Dierdre but then Affrica wasn't that sad as she was much younger and realised that she would be used as a way of gaining land and influence. Ferchar gained a couple of step daughters and a deal of land. I was sad that it was the end of Adam but he died a hero's death.
I thoroughly recommend the whole series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book had me glued, a lot of twist and turn, humor. The characters were great. It's been 50 years since the signing of It was a fast pace read. Thanks to NetGalley i recieved this book free for an honest review.

Affrica MacHeath is the cherished granddaughter of the man who helped bring relative peace to Scotland.
Ferchar is the son of the priest. He is intelligent and ambitious.
The spark of rebellion is gaining strength with outsiders fanning the flames.
This historical romance covers many years and has very complicated family dynamics. It's an action packed story with lots of laughs.
This is the third book in the series but because of the span of years between this and the last book you can easily read it on its own.
Very exciting and fascinating reading.
I loved it.

Great storyline and character development made this book a hot and enjoyable read! Extremely entertaining, captivating, and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.

Fifty years after Earl Malcolm MacHeth made peace with the King of Scots, the embers of rebellion remain half-hidden in Ross, ready to be ignited by ambition and resentment. From childhood, Affrica MacHeth has adored Ferchar, the son of a local priest. Complicated and clever, fun-loving and ambitious, Ferchar secretly becomes the centre of her world, and a rare bond forms between them.
But family, war and rebellion get in the way of their happiness.
The third book in this brilliant series & I think it’s my favourite of the three, strong characters & an edge of the seat story had me glued to my kindle. There are twists, turns & surprises that had me engrossed & I loved Ferchar & Affrica’s journey. I recommended this book & the whole series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Wow, this was such an emotionally packed story and I loved every page! Mary Lancaster weaves a story that will have you smiling and crying and everything in between!!
Affrica and Ferchar meet when they are children and many years will go by where they only see each other sporadically and live their own lives but when danger threatens, Ferchar is there to protect her. Many twists and turns in the story had me sitting on the edge of my seat and holding my breath! When Affrica and Ferchar finally come together, it's a wonderous thing:)
I also enjoyed the notes that the author shares with us at the end of the book, so very interesting. I love it when an author uses real historial facts and mixes it up with their imagination.
