A quirky, steamy romcom between a struggling author with writer's block and her nonexistent love life and a hulky, former teen-hearthrob with addiction issues(who just so happens to be her landlord AND her best friend's brother). I liked this love story, mostly because its between 2 imperfect people, with baggage. I like realistic storytelling and when books bring up really important issues, like addiction and mental health. I thought this book had a really good balance of light-heartedness, spiciness, and drama. First Erin La Rosa novel, not the last. 3.5/5

Book Review: Plot Twist by Erin La Rosa
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐
Spice: 🌶️
This review may contain minor spoilers.

Plot Twist follows MCs Sophie and Dash as they navigate life in busy LA. Sophie is a romance author who is stuck. She's had her heart broken and now she can't write the happily ever after her characters deserve. Dash is in recovery and trying to maintain his new normal. This book also includes brothers best friend, one bed, pansexual FMC, and self re-discovery

Sophie starts off the book at a low. She has just made a fool of herself. Sophie is pansexual, which is awesome. And through her journey she is meeting up exes to figure out what went wrong with them & why she can't fall in love. I wanted to enjoy her story more, but it kinda felt all over the place. There were 4 different types of love interests, her sister's journey, secrets kept from her best friend, a quasi-cheating storyline, the earthquake, etc. This got to feeling very soap opera-y.

Dash is a retired actor and recovering alcoholic. Not everyone in his family knows and many parts of his story deal with the shame he is feeling. His story was very relatable, regardless of if you are in recovery or not. He is trying to get back to a place of love and trust for himself. And I was rooting for his happiness from the beginning. His chapters felt more focused on the storyline throughout. I enjoyed his storyline more and found myself looking forward to his POV.

Overall there were some enjoyable moments, but this story wasn't for me. I enjoyed the author’s writing style and would definitely try another book from Erin in the future.

Thanks NetGalley & Harlequin Trade Publishing for the eARC!

Thank you to NetGalley for this early read! It's my first experience with Erin La Rosa and it didn't disappoint. I had so much fun going on this rom-com adventure of a writer of romance novels with a case of writers block, and a lack of love in her life. While trying to find true love (in the form of her ex's) she never expected to forge something new with her landlord, who has a few of his own well kept secrets. It's a fun read about missed connections, mistaken identities, stalkers, famous families, celebrities, and so much move. And of course falling in love.

I would definitely be interested in reading more from this author and series in the future.

This was a fun romance, but it wasn't anything that really stood out to me as something i'll remember long-term. Overall, I think its great for when you want something sweet, sexy and easy - but don't go into it expecting your new fav romance.

Thank you to netgalley for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately, I hated every second of this book. I should have dnf'd when I wanted to which was on chapter 2 in the mmc POV. His first ever scene is him jerking off. Disgusting and not how a mmc should be introduced AT ALL. Also, his inner monologue stays disgusting throughout the entirety of the book because every time he sees the fmc, he is thinking about her breasts, looking at them, or thinking about how "sexy her canine tooth is"?? He mentions her canine tooth so much throughout the book it is genuinely the weirdest thing I've ever had to read about. ANYWAY, to talk a little about the "plot" it's about a romance writer who has writer's block because she has never been in love before. So she decides to post tiktoks about meeting up with her exes to figure out what went wrong in their relationships. This book was boring to say the least. The romance I genuinely did not care about and reading the entire book never once did the writing make me change my mind. Another reason this book did not work for me is all of the tiktok mentions and super cringey dialogue between all of the characters who are meant to be in their thirties. Having to review this arc is entirely my fault because I requested it based on the cover and because a lot of mutuals were requesting it too. In conclusion, I have no good things to say about this book and I really should have dnf'd it.

Thank you netgalley for the arc.

3.5 stars

I really liked Sophie and Dash. They're both really good, loyal people who are looking for something. These two have heart for days, chemistry, and so many open conversations.

Plot wise, it was good. There are a few moving parts and none of it was overwhelming or unnecessary. The recovery portion felt realistic and of course the LA bookstore mentions were lovely. I loved the last chapter, the grand gesture, and the epilogue was perfection.

Overall, these characters were so easy to root for and if there's more to the series, I'll definitely keep reading.

**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**

This book is a fantastic mix of spicy fun and more deep themes with its romance. I love the main characters and appreciated the emotional journeys they went on individually and together. If you love a classic romcom, you will love this book!

While I wanted to enough Plot Twist, i couldn't get past how author La Rosa handled tough topics that may be triggering to others. Thus, I wasn't able to finish this tale.

I read the first book in the series and enjoyed it but this was so much more fun. I loved the grumpy sunshine aspect and the fact that she had to meet all her exes. This was a great read.

This was such a fun book! I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and all their quirks! It had lots of laughs, plenty of spice, and enough suspense that I read it in one day! I would definitely recommend this book to a friend! Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

I would say 3.5 stars, round up to 4.

This was a cute, but unpredictable story. It was easy read and something I could read in 1-2 seating.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for ARC

3.5 rounded to 4 for the sake of this review system

This would have been a really great book if not for its insistence on bashing me over the head with step by step instructions on how to use TikTok. I am a social media manager by day and a TikTok watcher by night; I don't need a book to bore more of the damn video app into my brain.

It's a shame, really, because I didn't hate the characters, and the idea of meeting up with exes was intriguing. I just hated the social media aspect and how Dash was like a walking talking Wiki page about how to optimize your reach on social media. I wanted a lightheaded love story, not a 'TikTok for Dummies' book.

That being said the writing was well done and the story was well fleshed out. I just got so sick of TikTok by 12% in that I found it hard to push through.

Do read this if you like TikTok or want to be an influencer. Don't read this if you hate social media and short form video content or barf.

I’m DNFing this at 12%
I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever known this quickly that I don’t like a book. And I think part of this was with the narrator. I already listen at 2x speed and had to speed it up even more because this narrator was still dragging every word out and the way she narrates was grating on my nerves.
Secondly this was so cringy and over dramatic and was already giving me the ick. And the fact that I was already annoyed so quickly, I knew I couldn’t continue.

This is my first time reading this author, and it won’t be my last. I loved that these characters were imperfect, tackling their struggles throughout this story. It had some depth along with the spice. This is such a swoony celebrity, friends with benefits romance story. I enjoyed it so much.

This was a cute and easy read! I really enjoyed it! I loved the characters, Sophie and Dash. I loved Sophie’s sunshine personality. To me she was super adorable. I liked Sophie and Dash’s relationship and how it grew. Sophie saw and understood Dash and even when he slipped, she didn’t run and was there for him. I liked how Dash challenged Sophie and supported her through her journey to understand why she has never fallen in love and to understand herself. Their chemistry was great and entertaining to read. This was my first book by Erin De La Rosa and I will definitely read more by her!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Erin De La Rosa for this book in exchange for my honest review and opinion.

The sensitive subjects tackled in this books were very well executed. All around a very cute romance the reader definitely roots for. I always love a book book about writing! Definitely connected to the MC on that.
