Disappointed. I was so excited after the first book, but Plot Twist was an apt title for my experience—and not in a good way. Here’s hoping if the series continues it will reflect the first book.
I was underwhelmed by La Rosa's debut novel, FOR THE BUTTER, but was willing to give her second a chance because of how much I loved the synopsis. Unfortunately, this one also didn't have the impact I was hoping for. I thought large swaths of the story were boring and overwritten, and didn't see the chemistry between the LIs.
A quirky, sexy romp that had me turning pages into the night. An ex-actor struggling with sobriety and a frazzled writer struggling to meet her deadline decide to help each other out, with sizzling results. Will definitely look for more from Erin de la Rosa.
Thank your for the Arc of Plot Twist
I enjoyed this romance story. It took me a little bit to get into this story but once I was hooked on Dash and Sophie, I fell for their connection. She was looking to find out why she couldn't fall in love. However, Dash wasn't looking to anything serious so the two connected without pressure and ended up falling for each other.
Talk about hard topics! Alcoholism, family dysfunction, imposter syndrome, and writer’s block!
This story is fun and spicy! The characters’ problems draw the reader in and add a layer to the blooming romance.
Sophie having to visit her exes to find out why she never fell in love is an awesome concept. It is cringey at certain points but had this reader at the edge of my seat. Like watching a disaster in slow motion is an excellent description. You can’t take your eyes off it.
The description of how brutal recovery is for any substance was done in a beautiful and compassionate manner.
The characters facing their own hardships and on their own paths of self-discovery are enjoyable. This author has mastered character growth and development on the path of self-discovery.
The spice is wonderful and adds to the plot and the connection of the characters.
Such a cute, spicy romance!
I enjoyed this story so much! It was a sweet story with friends to lovers and forced proximity tropes executed well. The author does a great job of tackling very sensitive issues like addiction, and dysfunctional family dynamics. I also appreciated the diversity in relationships that were displayed in the story. This was my first book by Erin La Rosa and definitely not my last. Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this ARC.
"Plot Twist" was an absolute delight! This book combines a medley of classic romance tropes, delivering a heartwarming and swoon-worthy story.
First, we meet Sophie, a romance author who's never been in love, and Dash, her landlord, and best friend's brother, navigating sobriety. They have a magnetic chemistry and the palpable tension between them had me grinning.
The characters are lovable and authentic, with Sophie's writer's block and Dash's journey towards self-discovery adding depth to the story.
This book is a quick, engaging, and at times, steamy read, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a heartwarming happily-ever-after romance. La Rosa doesn't hold back on the heat, so get ready for some spicy moments!
This is a must-read for romance lovers. It's an enchanting, entertaining, and occasionally sizzling tale that artfully blends classic romance elements, relatable characters, and a fascinating plot. Prepare to be swept off your feet by Sophie and Dash's journey – it's a delight!
Special thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the eARC.

Plot Twist was an easy and fun read. Sophie is a writer struggling with finishing her second novel, who lives next door to Dash, her landlord/best friends brother/handsome ex teen movie star. It had some spice, pacing was good, I would have liked a little more depth from the characters but overall a good time.
I really loved this book!
Dual POV featuring Dash, a former actor and recovering alcoholic, and Sophie, a romance writer who’s never been in love battling a looming deadline. They also happen to be landlord and tenant, and Sophie’s best friend is Dash’s sister. These complications, plus personal issues on both sides make them both unsure if a relationship will work. It’s a fantastic read as they work through their issues (together and apart)
Things I loved:
✔️ Friends with benefits
✔️Best friend’s brother
✔️ Dash’s sweet tooth (and dirty mouth!)

PLOT TWIST by Erin La Rosa is a raunchy, sexy romance about a struggling romance writer and an actor from a famous family who is a year and a half sober. This book wasn't for me—I struggled to connect to the characters, finding their problems, like Dash's recovery journey, to be more of plot devices than character development. However, I think this romance will appeal to readers who enjoy raunchy romance with heightened premises.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When I saw this cover I INSTANTLY had to request it, and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC. This one is so cute and I was immediately hooked by the blurb. Sophie and Dash were adorable together and their banter was top tier. The forced proximity trope really worked for me here and I appreciated that both MCs were older. While I do still love my HS and college romances, it's always nice to read about characters my own age, dealing with problems that I know well.
There was also some S P I C E here and I really appreciated that. It was well written and very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend.
I received an ARC of this book by the publisher via Netgalley in an exchange for an honest review.
Plot Twist was a cute book. The main characters are a romance writing dealing with a writer's block and an ex movie star turned Tiktok crafter. Dash was an interesting character. It was nice seeing a male lead in a romance novel not have a stereotypical "manly job" like body guard or athlete. I think La Rosa did a good job exploring issues such as alcoholism, recovery, and dysfunctional families in his character. I could see what La Rosa was trying to do with Sophie's character, but her characterization fell a little flat. It's like all of the energy went into making Dash and Sophie felt a little like an after-thought on what her character depth was going to be.
4 out of 5 stars.
I was initially captivated by this book right from the beginning, likely because it exuded the charming, rom-com movie atmosphere. However, my enthusiasm began to wane as I progressed to around the 60% mark. Although I enjoyed the romantic relationship between Sophie and Dash, it felt like there was untapped potential to let their mutual longing simmer a bit longer. In summary, this book is undeniably cute and has its spicy moments, but it left me craving a deeper exploration of their connection.
Thank you Netgally and Harlequin for the free e-Arc in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book. I liked the MC was a crafter, in AA I loved seeing ripped bodice BI character and that she had a pacemaker I haven't seen this in books before. Great representation.
I loved the spice and looking forward to the next Erin la Rosa book this is my new favorite by her.
I couldn’t put down this steamy, cute, romantic book! Sophie and Dash have a complicated brother’s best friend hush relationship, but when they start to fall deeper for each other they have to face reality. I love that this book touches upon issues that are normally not talked about, such as alcoholism within the Hollywood world. Highly recommend it!
Such a cute book and kept me up way too late reading it. Premise of the book is a romance writer on a deadline (who has never been in love before), without inspiration, decides to revisit her past relationships to see what went wrong. This is a quick, light read that will have you rooting for the two main characters to admit to themselves and each other about their feelings.
The cover is what initially made me want to pick up the book and know more, and I am happy I did. This is a sweet book that also dealt with some difficult topics such as alcoholism and family relationships
Thank you very much for the opportunity to read this book early! I really enjoyed it. I thought the writing was very well done, and the story kept me interested. I believe my students/patrons would also love this book and will be acquiring it for the library!
Sophie is struggling to finish her second novel, wondering if her writer's block is fueled by her own romantic history. In a quest to figure out her own feelings, she enlists the help of her best friend's brother - Dash - and goes an a tiktok quest to reconnect with her exes. What could possibly go wrong?
There were a few memorable characters in this novel - Sophie and Dash are well-rounded, with complicated histories and real-world problems. I do feel like some of the side plots got lost along the way, but if you are looking for heat and humour, Sophie and Dash have it in spades.
📖 Plot Twist 📖
“You deserve to be loved, deeply, by someone worthy. Please remember that.”
Oh what a delightful read!
Plot Twist follows Sophie, a romance author who has never been in love, struggling to finish her second book. In an attempt to beat her writer’s block, she sets out to meet with each of her ex’s to figure out why she couldn’t fall in love. She enlists the help of Dash, a former actor (definitely her childhood crush) who happens to be her landlord and best friend’s brother. Dash is struggling to find himself as he works hard to maintain his sobriety, and appreciates the way Sophie helps him learn to live again. Together, Dash and Sophie find themselves as grow closer together.
A fun tie was also having celebrity chef Nina from For Butter or Worse woven into the story as Sophie’s big sister and muse for her first novel. It makes the world meta in a delightful way. This can be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend checking out For Butter or Worse if you want to read Nina’s story!
Definitely recommend, especially if you are looking for:
📖 Friends (with benefits) to lovers
📖 Best friend’s brother
📖 Only one bed
📖 Celebrity lifestyle
📖 A happy ending, in more ways than one 😘
Plot Twist is on shelves November 14. My opinions are my own.
Plot Twist is a cute and easy read.
There was no overdrawn out drama, no third act breakup, they had communication between the two, safe sex, therapy, learning about themselves and each other, etc. I did find that the ending went too fast compared to the rest of the story.
Overall, a fun, lighthearted romance
