Start to finished I LOVED this book.

Everything was so well written, from the sobriety & relapse, to the LGBTQ+ representation, and the mental health representation. The growth that both main characters had to overcome, and heal themselves was amazing to read. Reading about an author writing about some of your favorite tropes… the one bed trope, best friends brother, found family, he falls first was such a fun new way of reading for me. It’ll make you laugh, and it’ll make you cry!

I also loved how amazingly the Booktok community was written so well into the story. Booktok is a huge community of such amazing indie authors and authors in general to present their work that they put their heart into, to the public especially on a wide known platform. For readers to find their stories and fall in love with their characters like they did while writing them. Erin completely did Justice with this book, from the first chapter to the last.

Thank you to NetGalley and Erin for an ARC in exchange for my own honest feelings and review.

Thank you to Erin, Netgalley and Canary Street Press for my ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!

I had my eye on this for months, and when I saw it on Netgalley I immediately requested it. When I saw the approval? Full fangirl moment. This one didn’t disappoint!!!

It’s the perfect combination of sweet and spicy, with dashes (ha!) of serious topics to bring it all together. So many tropes meld together to create a yummy read you won’t want to miss.

Sophie is a romance author working on her next book. Her deadline is looming, and her uninspired love life is creating a serious case of writer’s block. Her landlord and bff’s brother, Dash, is working on staying sober after a stint in rehab, when no one knows he was suffering from alcoholism. Together, they help each other face the past to work on their futures.

Sophie and Dash work through trust issues, sobriety, family drama and what it means to fall in love. They’re flawed and know it, actively working to be their best selves for the people that matter to them.

It’s a sweet love story for everyone who thinks they’re unlovable; spoiler alert: you don’t have to be perfect to be loved.

I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this. I thought it was a very easy read and super cute.

I liked both of the main characters a lot and they had a lot of chemistry together. I also kind of liked the idea of Sophie making the TikTok videos about her exes and the journey she was going on with them.

I haven't read a book by this author before this one but I will definitely go back and read others by her now.

This book was fine. I like both the main characters and felt like there stories were handled really well especially considering the sensitive nature. This book was much deeper than I expected it to be which was a pleasant surprise. I count Point to anything in particular that kept me from loving this book but it was a perfect read for my commute each morning.

This book is perfect for lovers of Emily Henry. Plot Twist, gave Beach Read in all the best ways. This book is cute, spicy, and made me laugh out loud more than once. Sophie is an author struggling to finish the book she’s supposed to have done in a matter of weeks. Dash is a retired actor trying to focus on staying sober. NATURALLY, Dash is Sophie’s Best Friends Brother and also her land lord. (Because why wouldn’t he be?) There’s one bed trope, friends to lovers, best friends brother, forbidden relationship, second chance romance, and probably more.

Over all I loved this book.

It was a low-stakes, easy read. If you're looking to pick something up for the time being or something quick/fun in between reads I recommend this.

I would've wished for them to have gotten into a relationship/situationship a little further in the story and started their friendship as friends and not the immediate attraction. This isn't specific to this book, I feel that way in general towards the whole insta-love trope. I also wished they would've have lied/kept secrets for so long when the majority of them could've been clarified since they weren't big deals. Also, the stalker aspect kind of felt unnecessary since it was resolved quickly even though she seemed a bit unhinged. And lastly, Sophie exploring her past relationships to figure out what went wrong told us nothing about her or the reasonings - they were surface level.

An easy read with low stakes. Not a favorite but thinking certain audience will fall in love with this book, just wasn’t for me!

This was a cute rom-com! I would give this 3.5/5 stars. I was engaged right at the beginning of the book - the cute rom com feels and embarrassing situation for the main character had me wanting for more. I felt as the book went on that there could have been a bit more banter and stewing for each other, instead of jumping right into their attractions (ie. initial steamy scene seemed early and maybe a bit unrealistic?!). Overall it was a cute friends to lovers read, with a somewhat forbidden love feel due to the family ties. Although predictable, it was a romantic and fun read. Received by Harlequin and Netgalley as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Why did the characters lie so much?
i couldnt get myself fully invested in the story and these characters. It was such a flat story to me. I wanted to love it, so much. but it just didnt happen

Plot Twist is a cute romance story with a serious undertone. Sophie & Dash have so much sexual tension from beginning to end of this story. Quirky Hollywood characters, humorous antidotes, social media craze, & some great sex scenes. This story also addresses a life long issue many face, but to grow from it & forgive oneself for not being perfect. Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC. My first Erin La Rosa book & definitely won't be the last!

Plot Twist follows Sophie Lyon, a writer struggling to write her sophomore romance novel. After a brief meltdown about how she’s never been in love goes viral, she capitalizes on her newfound notoriety by planning to meet with all of her exes to see what went wrong. Luckily, Dash Montrose—her landlord and best friend’s brother—has a popular anonymous crafting TikTok and offers to help Sophie with the ins and outs of social media, as long as she helps him write a speech for his actor dad’s award ceremony.

As Dash and Sophie work together and become friends, their attraction to one another gets harder and harder to deny. But Sophie and Dash both have their own reasons to be hesitant for a relationship—Sophie needs to discover who she is outside of a partner and Dash is a recovering alcoholic on a shaky line of sobriety—so they decide that a strictly casual, friends with benefit situation, is the best way to move forward.

I adore Plot Twist. I let it sit on my shelf for far too long and I regret not picking it up sooner. Dash Montrose is a grumpy cinnamon roll who does pottery and other crafts and fervently supports Sophie in all of her endeavors, even as he struggles to maintain his sobriety due to his tumultuous relationship with his Hollywood famous family. Let me be clear, I was not expecting Dash to have a relapse on page or for the book to feature alcoholism/rehab so clearly, but I think the realism added a lot to the total narrative and made me fall in love with the characters more.

TW: alcoholism, rehab, sobriety, relapse, stalking

Spice: 2/5
Rating: 4.25/5
Tropes: only one bed, best friend’s brother, “just once to get it out of our systems”

I’m telling you think right now, this is going to be a very show review.

I didn’t like the story, the characters or the writing. I literally put this book down for weeks because i couldn’t make myself finish it.

Every single character was so incredibly immature and flat. Especially Sophia. I couldn’t care less about her. Dash could have been cute if only he actually dealt with his problems.

And the lies. Every single character in this book lied about anything and everything.

I gave this author another chance but she’s clearly not for me.

This book was just okay for me. The plot was a cute story but I didn’t really get invested in the characters or their relationship. A pass for me.

This was cute! It had a lot of representation that felt organic rather than like something that was incorporated solely for diversity points, which I appreciated. You can definitely tell that it’s a romance book written in the era of tropes, and while I think it used them better than other books I’ve read, I’m just never a huge fan of being able to pick out the tropes the author wanted to use so easily that I could’ve made a bingo card. I found that the book took a surprisingly long time for me to get into, but I started getting quite invested in the plot the latter half — although that was due to the driving force of Dash’s character as I unfortunately didn’t ever get very invested into Sophie’s character. All-in-all I do think it was well-written and will definitely find its audience! Bonus points for the conflict near the end not making me grit my teeth in frustration.

A romance author who is blocked when it comes to writing her second book. She goes viral for a video of her saying she has never been in love. She goes on a quest to interview her past partners to find out what went wrong. Along the way she starts to fall for her best friends brother who is off limits. Covers the hard issues of alcoholism and struggling to trust others in your life. Enjoyed the building of their relationship and both finding they need to work on themselves but also need to ask others for help.

I really liked this book. I was already a fan of Erin La Rosa, and this book solidified it. The main character, Sophie, is an author struggling to write her next book as a romance author that has never been in love, which already has me hooked. She has such a great journey of self discovery with Dash, and I thought they helped each other a lot in the process. They were adorable and so supportive of each other, making it a perfect little romcom.

In general, I did not love this story. The book centers around the heroine Sophie who rents from her bff's brother Dash. Dash is battling his own demons (family, alcoholism) while Sophie is trying to finish her second romance novel while also trying to figure out what is wrong with her own love life. Spoilers ahead. Something I didn't like about this book was the on again/off again nature of Sophie and Dash's relationship. They would hook up, realize that they weren't looking for the same thing, go their own ways, and then just repeat the cycle. I also didn't love Sophie exploring her old relationships; I felt like we learned nothing worthwhile from it.

Tropes you will find:
- dual POV
- grumpy/sunshine
- forced proximity
- friends to lovers

I enjoyed this book. It was sweet, handled sensitive topics well and the characters were well thought out.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, for Butter or Worse. While you don’t have to read the first book to understand this book - I recommend reading rather than this book. Sophie is an absolute mess but it’s written to be that she’s a mess in a cute and quirky way because it’s a romance novel. Dash is also a bit of a mess, but he’s at least attempting to work on himself. The chemistry was just not there between the characters for me. Sure, there were some very spicy scenes, but all the tension was blatantly written rather than building it. There were a lot of side plot points that just felt like a waste (earthquake, Rain Boots?) and saying “I love you” and trying to make it an epic ending felt cheesy and stupid. Not the worst I’ve read, but a letdown compared to the first book. 2.75⭐️, 2.75🌶

Sophie is a romance author with a severe case of writer’s block and a due date of six weeks looming over her livelihood. Dash is her best friend’s brother, an ex-actor that grew up in the Hollywood spotlight, and a secretly recovering alcoholic.

Told in dual POV, this story is about Sophie’s journey of finding out why she never fell in love in any of her previous relationships and Dash’s everyday struggle to stay sober.

“You deserve to be loved, deeply, by someone worthy.”

Dash’s story was heartbreaking and I felt so bad for him, especially with how his family treated him like he was worthless. He deserved better from his family, but I am glad he found Soph and let himself be vulnerable.

“I fell in love with you slowly, but I plan to keep loving you fiercely.” 🫠 Oh Dash.

Giving this book 3-3.5 stars because I expected a bit more from the romance aspect. While I loved all the tropes included in this book, I wanted to see a few more happy moments. I also docked a star for how much TikTok was included in the book - while I understand that it’s modern times and everyone is on TikTok, I really didn’t care about the analytics aspects or how Sophie was making weekly videos. That’s just a personal preference for me, I don’t care too much about social media in romance books.

Also, I know my girl Sophie didn’t like confrontation (because same), but I think she should have gone after Ned and demanded at least an apology for what he did to Nina.
