"Plot Twist" is a charming and uplifting read that reminds us to embrace the unexpected with open arms.
Loved it! I love books where the characters start out strong and come out stronger together, and this was one of them!
3.5 Stars: Plot Twist is a steamy, friends to lovers romance, which I liked, but could have done without the rather descriptive encounters between the two main characters. Romance author Sophie Lyon is experiencing writer's block. She is out partying with her best friend when she drinks too much and announces at karaoke night that she has never been in love. It is filmed and goes viral. Trying to get out of her slump, she decides to get in touch with her exes to see what went wrong. She will post about her journey to her new online followers. Her neighbour, landlord and BFF's brother, is a reclusive child actor and has social media all figured out. He agrees to help her post about her activities and revelations. This is where the story gets interesting. Sophie has had a crush on Dash since she was a teenager, and Dash is interested in her, but she is his sister's BFF and off limits. He is also a recovering alcoholic and doesn't think he is at a place where he can be in a serious relationship. He has been keeping this part of his life a secret, even from his family. Can Sophie and Dash get together?
Of course this is a romance so you know they will eventually get together, but there is a long journey before they get there. Sophie has so much baggage and she is so messed up as far as relationships go that she frustrated me. She waffled constantly and instead of trusting herself, forced herself to do things that didn't seem right. Dash was such a caring person and he wanted to help Sophie, even if it caused him some emotional pain. His family was also quite dysfunctional which added to his struggle with remaining sober. I liked the way Erin La Rosa depicted his fight with alcoholism. It was easy to see how someone can relapse when they have used alcohol to solve their problems in the past. The friends with benefits romance that Sophie and Dash fell into was just a bit to steamy and descriptive for me. I had to skim quite a bit. The romance itself was well written and I enjoyed that part of the story, the struggles and realizations they came to were realistic and honestly written. Because of this, I will not be continuing with this series, but if you enjoy a steamy romance, then it is right up your alley.
Amazing. This story is the perfect mix of sweet and steamy. Sophie, the protagonist, is relatable in so many was and yet also an inspiration. Her courage to meet with her ex's in order to better herself in the area of love is nothing is not terrifying of any idea for anyone, yet she dives into it, even document the meetings for all of Tiktok to see.
Dash is the kind of friend (to lover) that I think we could all use. Playful, honest, and supportive, he compliments Sophie so well.
These two were so cute 😍
~ Sophie is a romance author with severe writers block who's recently gone viral for not believing in love. Dash is her best friend’s very attractive older brother and landlord who acts like she doesn't exist. ~
I like that they both had very different personal problems that they were WILLING to work on both for themselves and each other. The way Dash confronts a certain family member made me so happy for him! He deserved so much more than the way she treated him. Sophie's journey was crazy! Never in a million years could you put me in front of an ex and talk about what went wrong. Besides that, I loved watching her work on herself and ultimately find herself. What a ride this was!
My only problem is there are several topics that are still a huge question mark. 😭
Rounding up to a solid 3.5 stars. I like the world La Rosa created in this story. The friendship and family issues felt really believable. I loved that our author was in a slump and the work she did to look back at her own relationships. Even the TikTok inclusion that I went in a little unsure about, ended up really fun. Her LGBTQ+ inclusion was great in a way that it just felt like part of the characters story and solidly who that character was. I didn't really feel that way with some of the other things. We had a medical issue, alcoholism, a stalker, relapse, and then a grand gesture that would never happen in a rehab story. And then a follow up that almost made it seem like his alcoholism wasn't apart of their lives anymore.
Overall, I really enjoyed the flow of the story and the romance, I enjoyed a lot of and I would happily read this author again. I just wish we would have went deeper with some of the storylines by letting some of the others go.
3.75 ⭐️ rounded up
This book started out super slow for me but I'm glad I powered through. The last 25% completely saved it. There were a few twists I didn't see coming. I loved the representation of a pansexual person and how it dove into how hard alcoholism can be on all those involved.
I struggled to fully connect with Sophie but I love Dash and was absolutely rooting for them!! 🫶🏼
5 stars. I was going to give it 4 until Dash hit his low point and I was in tears. As the daughter of an alcoholic, I know from experience that it only works if you work it, so work it. I loved the representation of sobriety and recovery in this book so deeply, almost more than the romance. I did enjoy Sophie and Dash’s relationship but I thought Dash’s journey was really the star of the show.
Thank you Erin La Rosa for writing this book. A huge thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for a free copy in exchange for me honest review. I’m so blessed to have gotten this one.

cute and steamy! It isn't a remarkable romance by any means but it was done well and a great time! I enjoyed the development of the characters but found myself wanting a little bit more beyond what we saw on page. It seemed like there was a lot we weren't privy to as readers. I definitely will read more from Erin La Rosa after this!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
-best friends brother
-grumpy/sunshine
-friends with benefits
-close proximity
Sophie is a romance author who is struggling with writers block. She goes on a journey to visit her ex’s to find out why she’s never been in love. Her landlord, neighbor and best friend’s brother Dash offers to help her. Sophie and Dash’s love story is so beautifully written. There is no denying their chemistry.
Plot Twist delivered on some of my favourite romance tropes! Friends to Lovers, Friends with benefits, grumpy x sunshine, sworn off love.
The romance writer, FMC goes on a quest to find out from her exes, why she didn’t fit the bill, and why she still hasn’t had her own HEA. Enter the broody, somewhat troubled MMC, and there you have it, the grumpy x sunshine mix!
Erin La Rosa wrote a super fun and spicy read, and I’d pick up another one of her books in the future.
I really enjoyed this one! The chemistry was jumping off the pages between Sophie and Dash. I was burning through the pages to get to their next scene together. I loved the idea of going back to your exes and finding out exactly what went wrong through their eyes in order to learn and grow as a person for your future relationships.
Sophie was such a wonderful person for Dash to have in his life (and vice versa). It was rough seeing how his mother treated him and manipulated things to get her way with every member of the family. The way they both supported each other through the hardships was beautiful.
Definitely recommend this one for romcom lovers! It's perfect for a day at the beach or an afternoon in a hammock
4 Stars!
Content Warning: Alcohol Abuse and Anxiety Attacks
I really liked this book! It was a good sequel to the Hollywood Series. Dash and Sophie are two adults with issues and can they help each other to move forward together?
I loved how the MFC had writer's block and could really see her struggle to get things to paper. Furthermore, the book had great representation to alcohol abuse and anxiety attacks for the MMC. I felt connection to both characters and their struggles! However, there were times that I felt it kept repeating the same thing over and over BUT, that was a me thing. I read this book in one sitting and it was amazing! I loved how Dash's character evolved and his constant struggle to stay sober. It's great how he had a friend who was able to be there when he was struggling. He had great support systems. Sophie's character also evolved within time. She was able to really dig deep and look at her own struggles with love. I really liked how supportive Sophie was in Dash's struggles and vice versa. Dash was very supportive with her too! There were so many things happening in their surroundings that made this a cute novel.
I really tried to get into this book, but I could not connect with the MFC.
I liked the MMC and his story line but it wasn’t enough for me. Especially with a romance I need to connect with both characters.
The writing was great and the story flowed, but I personally did not enjoy it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for allowing me to review a digital ARC.
PLOT TWIST was a steamy friends-to-lovers that started out feeling like a light comedy, but has a lot of depth and tackles some seriously tough topics.
I had a hard time liking the heroine with her insecurities. She came off as very immature to me. By the end I still wasn't sure if she us ready to be in a romantic relationship.
I enjoyed Plot Twist, although there was not s lot of twist, per se. It was a fun, breezy beach read. It had some interesting elements I've not seen before, such as the meetings with the exs, that I liked a lot. Recommended for large collections where romance is popular.
This was a fun read, and the romance really delivered for me by the end. I found the narrative voice especially engaging, something that is not always the case for me with contemporary fiction. Also, the cover is STUNNING. There's something about that salmon pink that I just can't stop staring at.
Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for granting me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Personally, I struggled to get through this one. Something about vomit in the first chapter really killed the romantic anticipating before it'd started.
This was a good read and a solid romance novel! Sophie is a down-on-her-luck romance author who's never fallen in love and Dash is her best friend's brother and her landlord. I loved almost how mundane the story was. Even though it borders on a celebrity romance, it feels real and like it's something that could happen every day in real life. both Sophie and Dash are flawed and so real, no two-dimensionalism. Sometimes with romance books, the main characters are a little too perfect but Sophie and Dash were just the right amount of NOT perfect. All in all, a solid read.
This was a cute, sweet, and spicy romance. It has my favorite trope of forced proximity and it is so well done! While this book does deal with some pretty tough topics it is done well and in a respectful way. Sophie is having some major writers block and is on a tight deadline to get her book turned in. She thinks that her failed attempts at love have contributed to her writers block so she chooses to meet up with each of her exs to try and figure out what went wrong in their relationships. Her landlord Dash offers to go along with her on this journey and they both have to battle their insecurities to have their happily ever after.
