A riveting adventure that continues from book 1. Love the plot and characters. I found it very exciting throughout the book.
The Stolen Throne is a wickedly sizzling and breathtakingly opulent work of other-wordly beauty and perseverance. Not once does it stop to ask if your heart can take the heartache and the brilliance of this incredibly captivating storyline. It just knows you can hang on through the deep disappointment and brilliant revelations that each of our amazing characters must endure. For them, we will walk through fire and devastation and every tragedy imaginable to see them come through the other side safe and sound. When we truly connect with a character they steal our very heart and soul during the duration we spend with them. They turn our world upside down and show us a myriad of things about yourself, and we cherish them for it and will endure all for them.
Meren is blessedly pulled from the darkness her life has turned into as a result of saving her sister. She can't be more thankful, but she must face the inevitable truth that stares her in the face with every breath and heartbeat about the man she loves and the man who tore her world apart. Reven must protect Meren no matter the cost, but can he do it without shattering more of her life and her heart? When he makes choices himself without her input, he dares to tempt Fate and throw their world on it head leaving her alone to face the impossible. Can Meren put her world back together at the expense of her heart, or will she find that she can have both after all?
Meren and Reven shouldn't work, but they are truly beyond compatible. Nothing but Reven himself can keep him away from her, and Meren must choose when to fight for them and when to let go and allow Fate to have her way. Watching these two work together and grow closer makes my heart sing with absolute joy. I hate all the obstacles that block their journey and stop them from helping the other and allowing their love to grow uninhibited. It's a true shame to see such a love like theirs stunted and destroyed.
This story has weaved itself into my soul and left its tattooo my heart. It's strength only grows with each stunning book, and I find myself on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. I can't believe how invested I have become in Meren and Reven's story. I find myself utterly lost to them and their wonderful friends, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Abigail Owen owns my heart with this brilliant and outstanding story of a doomed love that must choose the fate of others over itself every time. My heart is overflowing in awe and wonder at the simplicity and beauty of her soul that reveals the most universal truth of all - there is nothing more life-changing or glorious then finding, fighting for, and claiming love.
Before we get into The Stolen Throne, I want to remind everyone that I gave The Liar's Crown five shiny stars LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. It's one of my top five favorite fantasy books of all time, and I had equally high hopes for this sequel. BIG MISTAKE. I bring this up because I'm going to sound undeniably ranty, and I want to re-establish that I loved the first book. I enjoyed this one too, but the whole "she is mine" and "you're my mate" subplot had me scratching my head going, huh? Let me explain.
Here’s the short version: The Stolen Throne is like The Liar's Crown on steroids. If you thought Reven was moody before, you're in for a treat. He could rival a gargoyle with his emotional capacity. Tabra's change is even worse. Owens rolled with the 'damsel in distress' troupe, making Tabra feeble and immobile for most of the book. And then there's Meren, the spare sister who went from a badass princess to an insecure, stand-in queen. She grew to depend on Reven for happiness, which is SO TOXIC. You know the saying, 'A hero would sacrifice you to save the world, but a villain would sacrifice the world to save you?' Yeah, that about sums up the plot of this story. Just, not in a good way.
I know a lot of ARC reviewers had issues with Meren and Reven's romance in the first book (Stockholm syndrome is a problem), but I actually liked them together. Before you come at me with pitchforks, let me explain. Reven kidnapped her, BUT he gave her the option to leave later in the story. He didn't pressure Meren to use her power, and he was willing to sacrifice the future of his kingdom for her happiness. Also, Meren only realized she liked him once she was in a safe place. It sounds like a fairy tale we grew up hearing, right? (I'm looking at you, Beauty and the Beast).
But in The Stolen Throne, Abigail Owens writes in these weird, unnecessary complications. Reven and Meren basically ignore each other for the first 74% of the book. The angst got tiring, but what really bothered me was that Reven spirals out of control whenever they separate. If you think it sounds possessive or manipulative, you're right. As if that wasn't enough, there were creepy binding rituals and phrases like "you're my mate" that took the relationship to an "alpha" level. I know some readers find the werewolf mate style attractive (and if you're one of those fans, I won't judge), but I thought that craze ended years ago. Apparently, we aren't that lucky.
The sex. God, it pains me to say this. Until now, I've been relatively impressed with how Owens writes intimacy. But all that flew out the window with this book. I'm still not entirely sure what happened in the sex scene. I think shadows were doing some of the motions? I just...ugh.
It sounds like I hate this book. I truly don't. I love the intricate worldbuilding, diverse characters, and intriguing story concept. The idea of a man shedding his shadows to stay immortal and take over the world is refreshing. You can't go wrong with a story like that! (Actually, you can, but I stand by my earlier statement that Abigail Owens did a phenomenal job on the first book).
Did I love Meren's humor and dedication to her friends? Yes. Was I drooling over the author's beautiful descriptions of sizzling deserts, glittering ice plains, soaring cliffs, and vibrant tropical forests? Also yes. Did I stay up later than I should have to finish the story? Guilty as charged. I wish the character relationships matched the quality of the rest of the story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved the first book and was stoked to get this one as well. The cover was just as pretty as the first one. The world building is unreal and the writing is just stunning. I’m super excited for the 3rd book!
This book and this series are EVERYTHING. Just so so amazing. The world building, the characters. It was one of the best fantasy books I have read this year. I cannot believe I put off reading it for so long.
Reven is the morally grey cinnamon roll you can’t help but love. Each book has so much adventure. This books picks up a few months after the first book ends, and gets right into the action. The RagTag outsiders are on the journey to figure out how to defeat the immortal king. You get to dive a little deeper into some of our side characters stories, while also learning more about the world this book takes place in.
I don’t want to give too much away but this series is a MUST READ….like go read it now what are you waiting for!!
I have to say that it took me a while to get into this story, simply because it's been a while since I've read the first book and I had to remember some of the characters and the roles they played in the story in the previous book. The one thing I had no trouble remembering was the chemistry between Meren and Reven and why I loved them and enjoyed the first book so much. It was a little disappointing that they didn't get on the same page with their feelings until about more than half-way through the story but along with the anticipation of it throughout the story it led to a shocking surprise being revealed. This story introduced new characters you will love and hate, it had action, suspense, death, betrayal, enemies, friends, family, love, laughs and more. Meren has never believed she was as important as her twin Tabra, but now she's important in her own right with powers that may or may not be hers. Reven might have had to leave Meren for a while, but he didn't leave her powerless. I cannot wait for their reunion, to see how everything plays out with Eidolon, and to see if there will be any more romance happening between some of my favorite characters. I have to say it was definitely good seeing a different side of Cain's sister Pella, I really enjoyed her character in this story along with a few of my other favorite side characters that I loved in the first book. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series. It did not disappoint.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK AND SO WILL YOU! I believe this will be everyones IT book of the year ❤️🔥
I was sent a early copy from entangled publishings on Netgalley
Minimal Spoilers a head!
I dont know where to begin. This book was so fullfilling! You start right where the first book leaves off. Reven and cain go rescue meren and the journey of a lifetime begins. Amulets must be found to take Eidolon down. We meet my favorite character Bene a scarey monster with the biggest heart and is just trying to release his love. There were many battles to be fought till the final battle where the most unspeakable things happen….. i wont give to much away. This book has you on the edge the entire time. I loved learning the most about the dominions and how it became. How the godesses created everything.
Please go read it’s absolutely amazing!
This book was such a great read!! The plot was so full of adventure and intrigue that I devoured the book in one setting. The author did an amazing job developing relatable characters and keeping the story going without it lagging. It was such a great read that I will be recommending this book to everyone.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publish for this arc. This review is 100% honest and my own feelings.
In this second installment of The Dominions series, Meren and Reven have to continue in their search from freedom from King Eidolon. With many moments of loss, happiness, sorrow and shock, Abigail Owen gave everything I could have wanted and more in a sequel.
After receiving an arc for the first book in this series, The Liar’s Crown, I was more than excited for this book. I feel as though this storyline is such an original idea and have loved immersing myself in this world. I absolutely can not wait for the next book!
This is a continuation of the Dominions series. A stories about twin sisters, the spare and the heir and court politics... The younger twin sister Meren must continue to rely on Reven but he's being taken over by evil.... Non-stop action, heart-stopping romance, and a tight, fast-paced plot. You do need to read the first book to get all the storylines. So many great characters and terrific adventure/romance. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
I love this series. I will be sitting on the edge of my chair waiting for the next one. You might want to put aside some time for this book because you’re not gonna wanna put it down.
Thank you NetGalley, and the publisher for a digital copy of this book for my honest review
First of all can we talk about how stunning this cover is!
This sequel did not disappoint. It was fast paced and action packed and kept my attention the entire time. All the characters are so fleshed out and I just love them all and this series. I did want more Reven and Maren moments, but I understand why it had to be that way. This one really sets up for the next one.
This was so good. I need to reread the first book The Liars Crown to remind myself of some things but this book was so good. I was entrantsed with it.
I just reviewed The Stolen Throne by Abigail Owen. #TheStolenThrone #NetGalley

This book was good, not as good as the first one. It picked up right where book one left off, it took awhile for the plot to really start moving for me at least it felt slow until the end. I did enjoy it and can’t wait for book three.
“You’re mine, Mereneith Evangeline. Written in the stars to be mine.”
This ending?! I need the next book immediately!
Wow this book was amazing, it was fast paced, action packed and thrilling. I couldn’t put it down I really loved it!
Amazing characters, beautifully written and brilliant story, everyone should read this book!
🥀 Publication Date: May 2, 2023 🥀
I loved the Liar's Crown and was so excited to receive an ARC of the Stolen Throne! Abigail DELIVERED with the second installment. Usually the second book in any series is dragged out and nothing really happens but nope not this book! We have so much more world building and a ton more interesting stuff happens that really makes the world of Dominions HUGE. I don't know if this is a 3 part series but honestly after this book she can write 5-6 books set in this world. The stakes are a lot higher, we watch the FMC grow stronger and the side characters add to the plot instead of being page fillers just because (which I want in any book since it helps understand the FMC thought process)! I know the Goodreads snippet explaining this book if vague but I swear it's sooooo much more than the snippet, you won't be disappointed with this series!
Thank you Entangled Teen for an ARC for an honest review
What a roller coaster. A heart pounding sequel that kept me on the edge of my seat. Abigail Owen put her characters through the wringer with this one. They couldn’t catch a break. The stakes were so high. At times I even wondered if she wanted anyone to have a happy ending! So much tension in this book. Owen knows how to write yearning. The push and pull of Meren and Reven was agonizing at times. I just wanted them to be happy and have a moment of peace. This sequel builds up perfectly to a grand finale that I hope will give our characters a happy ending. Also hope for more moments of temporary peace in the next book!
The Stolen Throne book 2 from the Dominons series picks up a few months after book 1. Every page, chapter I read provided me with such excitement. I love finding books where I can't guess what is about to happen and this series does it for me. I cannot wait until the next book is out to find out what happens to Reven and how Meren handles what's to come. If you haven't read this series get to it!
I had been waiting for this book since I finished book one, The Liar's Crown, and the wait was so worth it!! I'm going to keep this review as spoiler free as possible but there may be minor things since it is the second book. This is yet another book that I was unable to put down and I read it in what felt like a day.
I was given an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I haven't stopped thinking about this book since I finished it. It's one of those books where you can't really start another one right after. Trust me, I tried. There is just something in this series that is so addicting and it honestly starts to take over your mind lol
I made a very extensive list of points I wanted to talk about right after I finished because I knew I wanted to wait a few days to fully digest the story...and come to terms with the fact that I won't see book 3 for a long time.
The plot of this book picked up almost right where book 1 ended which I really liked. There was so much going on in the beginning and I was immediately brought right back into the story. Speaking of the plot, the pacing of this book was so good. I love books that move right along and aren't making you read about all the traveling and side things that don't really matter. This book did a really good job of that, though there was a time or two when I was wishing we could've seen what happened next.
I really love the main character, Meren, and even her sister has started to grow on me. Meren is a strong character who is still flawed. I really enjoy that she isn't doing the right thing all the time and is able to learn from the mistakes that she makes. I can't wait to see what she plans to do in the next book because of how this one ended.
Reven remains my favorite character and this book made me love him even more. While there was less banter between him and Meren, their interactions were still my favorite scenes in the book. I love that when he says he will burn the world for her, it's clear that he actually means it. There's just something so wonderful about the follow-through and it leaves me swooning.
Speaking of burning the world for their partner, Meren actually does some selfish things for herself in this book and I applaud her. I hate when main characters don't get to do anything for themselves and it made me really happy that that wasn't the case in this book! I also like that love interests can both burn the world for each other...even if it is selfish. That unflinching love is one of my favorite things to read about.
This book is coming out on May 2nd of this year and I cannot recommend it enough! When I found out it was on Netgalley I ran to get a copy. I will be recommending this book until everyone is sick of me, and then maybe I'll stop.
An enthralling continuation of this epic fantasy
Phew this book. It was definitely a stay up too late, cannot put it down, it should get more than 5 stars kind of book. I loved the first book in this trilogy but I loved, loved this book even more. This beautifully crafted and expertly delivered epic fantasy novel will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, knuckle biting, and cheering. Expect a roller coaster of a story because instead of a slow ratcheting up of the danger and suspense, this part of the story starts with intensity and just never lets up. The book picked up right where the first book left off. Meren and Reven, along with their loyal cohorts, are continuing to try to thwart the evil Eidolon, the immortal king of Tyndra’s, plans, heal her sister, and save the dominions. The majority of the main characters from the first book are again in this story and there are also some new characters who are introduced. The world building was superb, drawing from the last book and weaving in new threads as the story progresses and more dominions are visited and new characters are introduced. The story includes all the goodness that you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, end of the world scenarios, paranormal creatures, evil entities, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, mystery, secrets, betrayal, revelations, and laughs. I love that Meren and Reven’s characters, despite their unique overwhelming powers and how the rest of the world views them, are still kind, self-deprecating, modest, reluctant, and at times resentful which makes them very likeable and relatable heroes. While this is a YA fantasy, is also a deeply emotional book. At its heart, it’s a story of damaged and bruised but not broken people who continue to find their way by owning their choices, recognizing their scars, finding their strength, embracing life, and deciding to answer the call to do what is right, even when it is hard. I cannot wait to read the conclusion of this trilogy.
