Not giving this a real rating, as I didn't finish, but this one wasn't for me. I couldn't even get through the first book without eventually skimming the rest. I requested this before reading the first, which was my mistake because I didn't realize this was a second book when I sent the request.
This sequel was great!! I read the first book before starting this and wow! Absolutely loved. This author is definitely one of my new favorites!
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Liar’s Crown. It was a great story and when I found out the next book was out - I had to have it asap! But did I think book two could be even better….and now I need book 3!?
The Stolen Throne is a wickedly sizzling and breathtakingly opulent work of other-wordly beauty and perseverance. Not once does it stop to ask if your heart can take the heartache and the brilliance of this incredibly captivating storyline. It just knows you can hang on through the deep disappointment and brilliant revelations that each of our amazing characters must endure. For them, we will walk through fire and devastation and every tragedy imaginable to see them come through the other side safe and sound. When we truly connect with a character they steal our very heart and soul during the duration we spend with them. They turn our world upside down and show us a myriad of things about yourself, and we cherish them for it and will endure all for them.
Meren is blessedly pulled from the darkness her life has turned into as a result of saving her sister. She can't be more thankful, but she must face the inevitable truth that stares her in the face with every breath and heartbeat about the man she loves and the man who tore her world apart. Reven must protect Meren no matter the cost, but can he do it without shattering more of her life and her heart? When he makes choices himself without her input, he dares to tempt Fate and throw their world on it head leaving her alone to face the impossible. Can Meren put her world back together at the expense of her heart, or will she find that she can have both after all?
Meren and Reven shouldn't work, but they are truly beyond compatible. Nothing but Reven himself can keep him away from her, and Meren must choose when to fight for them and when to let go and allow Fate to have her way. Watching these two work together and grow closer makes my heart sing with absolute joy. I hate all the obstacles that block their journey and stop them from helping the other and allowing their love to grow uninhibited. It's a true shame to see such a love like theirs stunted and destroyed.
This story has weaved itself into my soul and left its tattooo my heart. It's strength only grows with each stunning book, and I find myself on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. I can't believe how invested I have become in Meren and Reven's story. I find myself utterly lost to them and their wonderful friends, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Abigail Owen owns my heart with this brilliant and outstanding story of a doomed love that must choose the fate of others over itself every time. My heart is overflowing in awe and wonder at the simplicity and beauty of her soul that reveals the most universal truth of all - there is nothing more life-changing or glorious then finding, fighting for, and claiming love. Thank you to Entangled Publishing, LLC, Entangled: Teen & NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book
Abigail Owen you are so talented, this series was exciting from start to finish. If you are a fan of big names like Sarah J Maas or Holly Black.. read this series!
god I love Meren and Reven so much<3
honestly this book was worth waiting for - I don't think I've ever loved a YA fantasy as much as this one. the worldbuilding is sooo good and I love all the thought that went into creating this world. this book was 100% not filler which was very nice and i was honestly riveted while reading.
tbh the love triangle was kinda annoying at times but not majorly so. Reven's moody demeanor and Cain's refusal to take a hint were lowkey overdone but it's okay!! the main thing that bothered me was Reven's thing about how he's dangerous and should stay away but then getting tempted by Meren literally every other chapter. honestly idk this is one of the only times i have NOT suffered from second male lead syndrome j bc Reven's character is so well done.
some things (like some characters doing literally nothing the entire novel) were kinda offputting but thats nbd and it'll probably be good in the third book which i think is the final one? and i'm genuinely anticipating the last book so much because i need to know how everything goes down.
highly highly highly recommend this series!!
i voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. all thoughts and opinions are my own.
In the second installment of Owen's Dominions series, Meren is able to return to her Wanderer friends while her friends and she try to figure out a way to overcome the immortal king who has taken over her lands. With the the help of a ghost the group is able to uncover some history that enables them to devise a plan-gather the goddesses sealed in six amulets. Even with this plan, there are still many questions and how is Meren going to be able to answer any of them when she keeps getting distracted by the troubles in her love life. This a great follow up to the first book in the series, though like many second books, there is so much set up that it feels unfinished. The ending is an abrupt cliffhanger that both left the reader wanting more, but also added to the feeling that the book was unfinished. Overall a great read!
The stolen throne is book two in the dominion series and it has everything. This book had me sweating with suspense and anticipation. We have all the same players as book one to worry and love about and Abigail added more to fill your heart. Book two is a faster pace book and I don't think you get a break from the adventures so surround yourself with snacks and drinks and go in for the long haul.
These characters have lived rent free in my head since last year and it was a pleasure to catch up with them!
After the worlds of Reven and Meren collide and become entangled in the Liar's Crown, readers join the epic and dangerous journey to dethrone Kind Edolin and save Tabra in The Stolen Throne.
The Stolen Throne was a five star for me and I am happy to say that I was still deeply engaged and excited to see what happen to each end every character Owen has created! This classic found family group is diverse and nuanced and a pleasure to follow. I absolutely adored that the first installment felt simultaneously nostalgic and fresh. I personally dont feel like that was achieved as effortlessly in this one. There where moments that felt more cloned than inspired by and in those moments I felt pulled out of the story, The pacing felt a bit wonky too, readers are offered a constant barrage of obstacles that somehow don't really advance the plot. Perhaps it was my inflated expectations ( this was my most anticipated sequel this year!) but I can't help but feel a bit let down by this one.
That being said, I MUST know what the outcome for all these characters will be and I have faith that the author will provide us with a satisfying conclusion!
Many thanks to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for the review copy.
Wow wow wow this is a good second book!! Definitely did not have second book syndrome like some trilogy books can have. I want to say thank you to NetGalley, and entangled teen for giving me an arc of this book for my honest review, so let’s get into it. I will say that this book had the same problem in the last book I felt where, in the first part of the book I felt like we are not in the kingdom for long enough before we move to a different location. I did love how in this book we got some of Reven’s POV I kind of wish that we had a bit more but I also like it not being a dual POV. I really like this book. I thought the author kept it very interesting with all the different little adventures that we went on and all that twist and turns. Definitely cannot wait for the last book to come out like I need it now. For some reason I think this series overall will just gonna be a four-star series for me which isn’t bad but I wish I could say what the thing is that’s holding it back for it being five stars for me but I just don’t know. I definitely recommend that if you enjoy the first book, you have to read this next one it is just as good if not a bit better.
Rating: 5/5
I received an eARC for my honest opinion.
You know that feeling when you love a book so much that you don’t want it to end because you know you will have to wait forever to find out what happens next. Yep, this book did it to me.
This book picks up right where book one left off and it grabs ahold of you and trust me you won’t want to let go. Be prepared, it will take you through a whirlpool of emotions but won’t leave you feeling empty but renewed with power and wanting to kick butt.
The plot was different, yet still the same plot as the first one and the author did an amazing job of weaving them together because you know the main mission of the plot, but you get to see it all come together. I still love all the attention to details because it really helps you be able to escape reality and makes you feel like you’re a part of the crew and going on adventures with them.
I love that we got to see a lot of the characters from the first book, and we got to meet some new ones like Bene. For Maren, I feel for her so much. She has been running on fumes, she is always on the go or fighting whatever comes at her or the ones she cares for. I love her strength, her courage, and how she loves during all this. Raven, oh you sexy fictional character! You have stolen my heart and Marens. I had a lot of moments where I wanted to shake the heck out of him but at the same time, I could understand the meaning behind his pushing away. He would do anything for Maren, burn the worlds down for her, die for her, move the mountains for her. I loved that about his character, and I thought the author did a wonderful job with making it one of my least favorite tropes and it was done in a way that I truly did not hate it.
Owens, you grabbed my heart strings and dragged them through the dirt then you cleaned them off and gave them back to me only to rip them out with that ending. If you’re on the fence about these books, don’t be. You will love every up and down moment; you will find a connection with the characters and love the vivid settings. I recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy, YA/New Adult, romance, action, and heartfelt moments.
I want to thank NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.
"You have to do this. I hate that you have to do it, but it's who you are. Not because you were born to be a sacrifice but because that's your heart. I see you, Mereneith Evangeline."
Excited can’t begin to describe how I felt revisiting the world of Nova. I absolutely adore Mer and Reven. Book 2 did not disappoint! The world is so much bigger, stakes are higher, and the cast continues to grow.
The Stolen Throne opens the world up so much more than The Liar’s Crown. Where book 1 focuses primarily on Mer and Reven’s (very complex) relationship The a stolen Throne dives heavily into plot, world building, and character building. One of my favorite parts of The Liar’s Crown was the enemies-to-lovers banter, but the action and adventure of this book made up for it!
Thank you so much entangledteen, NetGalley, and @abigailowenauthor for the advanced copy of The Stolen Throne! I devoured this book and I am already so ready for the final installment.
The Stolen Throne releases on May 2nd! Check your local libraries or bookstores for the first copy if you haven’t gotten into the series. It’s worth every second.
The second book in the Dominions YA/NA Fantasy Romance series starts where the first one left off, so I don't recommend it as a standalone. The difference is we get some of Reven's point of view in this story as well as Meren's so that's a great addition. There are so many twists and turns in this one that it's really to write a review for it. Suffice it to say that it's a wild ride I'm enjoying immensely and I can't wait for the next one!
I loved all the romance, planning and scheming that went on in this book. I feel like the author did an amazing job keeping me hooked throughout the book and loved this one even more than the first. I highly recommend picking up the second book as it did not disappoint at all an was even better than the first!
4.75/5 stars
Absolutely amazing! Things get very tense in this second book of the Dominions series. This story has endless action, danger and adventure but it also delivers on complex characters, beautiful friendships as well as top-tier romance.
I love the unique world and the magic system. The mysterious story unravels bit by bit and keeps you on your toes. You’re right there with Meren and the other characters fighting for your life and trying to get answers. This book hit me right in the feels, just what I needed and look for in a fantasy!
Many thanks to Net Galley for the digital copy of The Stolen Throne.
The Stolen Throne is a sequel to another book called - but I did not know that when I got my copy of the book. I was lost for a little bit but quickly understood what happened in the first book. Yet because I did not read the first book I didn’t have an attachment to the characters that I probably should have.
My review is kind of put on hold due to that. Yet what I can say is since I could read most of the book without being confused, is that the book could end up being a stand alone as well. Granted I only have half the knowledge about the world and magic as other readers would have.
The villain seemed a little weak due to what I knew. If I was able to have the time to read the first book, I feel like I would have a different opinion.
Fun and fast paced, I highly recommend reading the series from the first book and then to this book. It will piece some things together. Overall, this was an enjoyable read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an E-Arc copy of this novel.
This is one of those books I really didn't know what to expect.
Starting off with the positives, this book read faster and easier in my opinion than book one. It felt like I was able to pace myself better throughout this book than I was able to in the first one. I did find Meren more enjoyable in this book, and I found her more interesting. Bene probably was my favorite character. It's either him or Pella. I did enjoy the addition of the amulets and discovering more about those. That was definitely a twist I thoroughly enjoyed.
Now for the the cons. I still think this book felt clunky in places. Part of that, in my opinion, was because of how the book was split into parts. I felt like that didn't really add anything to the book, and it didn't break up the book in a manner that felt necessary. My other biggest con was that this book felt very similar to the first one. It felt like the ending was just a repeat of book one but in reverse. I felt that it was the same fight with the villain that happened in book one which just made the outcome of the "final" battle very predictable. Also I felt like the relationship between Reven and Meren was too "hot and cold". It felt like one second they were opposed and the next they were back together again. I really didn't know how I was supposed to feel about them by the end.
Overall, this sequel was really underwhelming for me. I wanted more than what was given. It's a decent book, and there were parts I did enjoy. But I found that there more parts that I struggled with than enjoyed. Most likely will finish the trilogy because I am curious to see where it ends.
Overall Rating: 4.2/5
The Stolen Throne is the second book in the Dominion series and it is a wickedly sizzling and breathtakingly opulent work of other-wordly beauty and perseverance. It picks up right where the first one ends, with Meren, Cain, and Reven having saved Tabra from Eidolon’s clutches and being on the run now. Meren needs to take control of the situation quickly, and she needs to find a way to defeat Eidolon for good before he finds them and eradicates them, or before he can get Tabra back for his nefarious plans. This was a good sequel, but some parts of the plot or some of the characters’ decisions still don’t make total sense to me.There is a wannabe love triangle, but it was never really believable because it was clear from the start who Meren loved. This subplot was brought in a good way though. Moreover, the world-building continues to be a strength of this series, and the author has a way to write beautiful and vivid descriptions. I would still recommend this series to fantasy and YA lovers, but I do hope that the next book will wrap things up nicely.
If you’re not busy on May 2nd, make plans to be. If you read The Liar’s Crown, The Stolen Throne needs to be at the top of your to-read list. The Stolen Throne is just as fast-paced, violent, and swoon-worthy as the first and I could not get enough of Maren, Reven, and co.
There is absolutely no rest mentally or physically for Maren in this installment. She is constantly fighting something whether it’s in her heart or against Eidolon. Regardless of how many times she wanted to give up, she continually fought for those around her who she holds dear and I loved to see it.
With the rest of the crew, I could not get enough of Maren’s assembled team. Bene was such an amazing addition and I’m excited to see more of him in The Shadows Rule All. Then we get to see so much more of Pella, Cain, Tziah, Vos, Horus… and honestly I loved each tense or fun moment.
Finally, Reven…. oh Reven, you self-sacrificing, darkly delicious, perfect man you. Reven is irrevocably everything. My heart was definitely all over the place. Abigail would get me so excited to only have me plummet back down to zero again so fast, and then continually throw us through the cycle again some more. I want a happily ever after for him so badly and I can only hope we get it in book 3.
Overall, The Stolen Throne, is a perfect second addition to this series. There is no stall in action, no break in agony, and no lull in small wins. Maren and Co.’s adventures continue flawlessly and I cannot WAIT to get my hands on The Shadows Rule all.
The adventure continues with Meren and Reven who must find Tabra, gather amulets, and defeat Eidolon.
I liked this book better than the first one. The characters have become more developed and we learn more about the history of this land which really adds on to the story. I haven't really read a fantasy like this, so it was a lot harder to get into it, I found myself enjoying the story and all of its magical elements. There were times, however, where I found it difficult to keep up with what was happening because some of the events in the book are sudden and end quickly. I would still recommend this book to others and look forward to reading the next book in the series. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
