My first book by this author and I was captivated! Gabrielle is very good at creating solid, lifelike characters and I really loved the dialogues and the descriptions of Adeline’s friends and their Arabic traditions, dresses and food. Adeline is a wonderful character, willful, brave and smart, and I loved Warwick, even if I wanted to shake him at the end to spur him into action (and frankly the problem with the moneylender could have been solved easier and much earlier in the book). I ADORED the side characters, especially the duke’s godmother and Adeline’s companion. A five star book, undoubtedly.
This class divide love story is both compelling and entertaining. Adelaide is the daughter of an Earl yes, but that is shadowed by her mixed blood. Not the typical match for a Duke. But this is not your average Duke. He chooses invention over society, advancement over status and learns that love matters more than all. I loved Adeline’s eccentricity, her medical knowledge and her compassion. She places everyone above herself, and learns that it’s ok to put herself first. I loved being able to visit with Drake and Ana again, their friendship helping Warrick to finally face his feelings. An added bonus to the story is the wealth of culture we expericence as Addie introduces the Duke to the foods of her culture and her community. This story is painted in vivid colours of love, friendship and family.
Basically a replica of the first book in the series. I kept getting a sense of deja vu throughout the book, both books had the same plot, same characters and the same dilemma.
Also, the writing style didn't make up for the storyline. It was purely descriptive, the dialogues were minimal which made the chemistry between both MCs super stilted and forced.
What made the flaws of the book quite obvious was how lengthy the book was. It made it easy to spot every lacking part.
Safe to say this wasn't a good book.
*I received an ARC of this book through netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review*
This had an interesting “meet cute” (her pig attacks him.) I enjoyed the set up. It was an enemy to lover feel. I like that they had a slow burn and you did feel like spark. The steamy level was on the subtle side, but again that is a preference for most readers.
This book is a wonderfully written and totally entertaining romance. I really liked the characters and the plot to thwart her half-brother. I even liked the Henry the pet pig.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.
This was my first book by Tina Gabrielle and I will definitely be adding her to my must read list. This story was one of the best historical romances I have read in quite a while.
Adeline was banished form her home when her father died from hers step brither to theur country home. Daniel Millstone is a duke that is also in his country home to get away from the craziness of London.
When her brother shows up with some news for her. THe duke steps up to help her. THis was a great story. i couldnt put it down. I loved the slow burn ,fake to real courtship, and some humor realy rounded the book out for me.
How Not to Marry a Duke was a completely different HR that I’m used to reading. I loved how our MC, Adeline, was half English and half Middle Eastern and showed and used the wonderful Middle Eastern traditions and teachings that her Middle Eastern mother taught her.
The Duke of Warwick was smart and brash, but accepts everything Adeline did from healing people, even though she’s a woman and that’s frowned upon during this time period, and embracing her Middle Eastern culture like trying the different foods she made for him.
This couple was so stinking cute and I loved every interaction they had. I especially loved the side characters like the Duke’s godmother and Adeline’s companion, Hasmik.
Tina Gabrielle is definitely on my favorite HR authors new to me list! I can’t wait to read her backlist!
This was a lovely historical romance. I loved and enjoyed Adeline and Daniel's love story from their very first meet-cute to their must deserving happily ever after.
I adored Adeline and Daniel's story! I just loved these two together and couldn't put the book down!
I had not read anything of Tina Gabrielle before, but the cover drew my eye on Netgalley. Enjoying historical romance, this coverlooked promising. And it certainly is a cute read!
Adeline is a tough cookie and I liked how she despised Daniel from the beginning. And of course: her pet pig was also very cute. The story flows nicely and keeps you entertained. The characters aren’t totally in depth, but amusing enough. For a light, funny and cute historical romance, this one is perfect.
I realized later on that it is part of the Daring Ladies series, but you can totally read it as a standalone. Four out of five stars and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
I really enjoyed reading this historical romance! I liked the characters, and the plot. I would definitely recommend!
I received an e-ARC from the publisher.
I'm on a historical romance kick and this is a first from Tina Gabrielle for me, certainly won't be the last. I enjoyed this story and I love that our characters are pioneers in their own ways, ignoring what society deems as acceptable for them. My only quip is I'm not sure how Adeline didn't think about her sister being put into her place instead, I mean, that's pretty dang obvious. As intelligent as she is, she should have seen that coming.
I loved the epilogue, I always enjoy a sneak peek into the future with the characters!
This was a pretty decent read. I did love that the main female lead was different from most that you fund in regency and historical romances. The chemistry was good between characters and the plot was also good.
What I liked about this boook was how quickly the story picked up. We dive right into the plot and the fake engagement within the first chapter or two and it made for a pretty fast paced story. The heroine is sweet and quirky and I like how her personality is established with her caring for the animals on her land.
Daniel Millstone, the Duke of Warwick just wants to work on his inventions. He has no time to flirt with any of the single ladies in the ton, so he escapes to his godmother's cottage to do that. Adeline Cameron is very similar in personality - smart, interested in the world at large, and very caring. Their personalities clash when they first meet as her pet pig attacks Daniel. When Warwick sees his childhood foe is Adeline’s half-brother who tries to force her to marry a moneylender, Daniel steps into help fool her brother with a fake relationship between them and it forces the couple to spend more time with each other.
A funny, thoughtful, engaging read!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this ARC.
This is the second book of the Daring Ladies series. I've enjoyed the first book in the series and this one also did not disappoint. The storyline flows well and the plot twists and turns kept me interested and turning the pages to see what would happen next. Ms Gabrielle does a lovely job of creating vivid scenes and bringing the characters and story to life. Both Daniel and Adeline were interesting characters. They each enjoyed activities outside the norm of society's expectations. They were perfect for each other and I enjoyed following their story. Daniel steps in to help Adeline out of an unwanted match and although Adeline starts out as thinking him arrogant, not wanting anything to do with him, it doesn't take long for this fake relationship trope to evolve into something real. I enjoyed seeing them get to know each other and to see their slow building love to develop.
I found this to be a well-written story with good character development and an engaging storyline. The story was entertaining and a lovely addition to the series.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
While this book wasn't *bad* I found it incredibly dull. I put the book down for several months before finishing it. The characters were interesting and I liked the heroine's more diverse background, the actual story was a slog. Usually I fly through romance novels, but this one just did not do it for me.
I LOVED THIS BOOK, LIKE THEY DON'T LIKE EACH OTHER BUT HE DISLIKES HIS HALF BROTHER MORE THAN HER, SO HE DOES SOMETHING TO VEX HER BROTHER THAT LEADS TO THEM TOGETHER AND OMG.....LOVE IT.
I love the pig. More characters in regency eras should have pet pigs.
I really enjoyed the way our MCs meet: crashing into one another, how poetic. This part was well written and it set up the story really well. I was fully prepared to feel the angst of two people who do not think they will ever fall in love with one another.
The author put a lot of energy into describing the individual passions of the MC's but I wish more of that had been placed into developing the chemistry between the two of them. The conversations felt simple, and the chemistry wasn't really there. There was no interaction between them that made me think "this could be love". Nothing they did or said to each other, or in one another's presence, created a space for "this person cares for others in a way that I would love to be cared for". It is unfortunate because on paper I believe they would be an excellent match, the writing just didn't show it.
