I don't remember a lot about this book except that it was easy to read.
I'm probably not going to reread it at all, but maybe one day I will.
This was fun and flat out.
From the first page, this book was at full force, our protagonist is a ball of energy, bouncing off the page.
Well written, perfect for younger YA readers
“Selfie is an engaging and very real exploration of social media and the trickiness of separating what’s real from the glossiness of the online world. It’s a tender story about friendship and staying true to yourself.”
Sometimes publisher’s blurbs are a bit of a stretch but this one is 100% spot on. This book, Selfie by Allayne L Webster, is engaging, authentic, timely, emotional and simply a great read.
I whizzed through my advance reading copy thanks to Netgalley and Text Publishing in one day.
As a mum of teens and ex-high-school teacher this book gave me all the feels as I pictured kids I knew in the situations presented in the book. Teenage audiences will identify with the characters and older readers will get a realistic glimpse into how the online world blurs with real life for today’s kids. Contemporary, authentic and heartfelt this is a must read.
A well written novel for middle grade readers tackling an important subject realistically. Not my usual read but I see the value of it for a younger reader.
As a fully grown adult who is extremely partial to a teenage fiction, I was very excited to read Selfie.
I loved it - the characters, the storyline, family dynamics, the subtle inclusion of disability and illness without being over baring, the very realistic teenage drama. I honestly think every teenager, and parent/caregiver of a teenager should read this.
I was a particular fan of the kind and forgiving Kira and Tully's stepmum - both strong characters who gave endless good advice. Selfie was genuinely funny, with a beautiful writing style about the façade of social media and what it means to be a true friend.
