Dark Hunger is a great book by Christine Feehan and it has been so fun to see it made into a graphic novel. I really enjoyed the illustrations and seeing these characters I love come to life.

Book Summary:

My Review:

It's incredible how quickly a series can progress. I swear I blinked, and Christine Feehan wrote another ten books (exaggerating here, but it sure felt that way!). Dark Hunger is number 11.5 in her Dark series, perfect for paranormal romance fans.

Can I just say I love the variety of paranormal creatures Christine Feehan will write about? Dark Hunger delves (back) into the De La Cruz family. Specifically, it follows the youngest brother, Riordan.

Yes, it does have a heavy dose of insta-love, but that comes with the mate territory, so I'm not complaining. Honestly, the whole setup will likely make you swoon – especially if this is your favorite genre!

I should mention that Dark Hunger is a pretty quick read. It's only 100 pages, putting it solidly in the novella category. Still, it is so worth the read, especially for anyone who needs a bit more from this family.

I really enjoyed the graphic novel portion of the book. While, I think the plot could’ve gotten more and I’ve read graphic novels I enjoy more. This was a good palette cleanser and for people who already know they enjoyed this series.

I read Dark Hunger a very long time ago, so I was intrigued to learn there was a Manga coming out of it. This is beautifully illustrated, and perhaps you should read the book first to learn the characters. Riordan is a true Alpha male, and Juliette is his match in every way. A true collection piece for those who love this author, and her books. And please know this is like a comic book, with tons of graphics however it does not read like a real book. But fantastic just the same!

A well-done bit of artistry and a great story as this couple tries to figure out how to love one another and save her community. DARK HUNGER may not be a typical manga offering but to fans of Ms. Feehan, it is another way to enjoy her world.

I don't get much opportunity to read manga these days and to be honest, I had kind of gotten away from it. Dark Hunger caught my attention, and I figured if I was going to jump back in after so long away, Christine Feehan would be a solid choice. This one has both the manga and the original novella, so it's the best of both worlds. I went into the story fully expecting to enjoy it, and I certainly did. Plus, after reading the note from the author, I couldn't help but get emotional about the book. I haven't read all of Feehan's Carpathian series, but the more I read by her, the more I want to read. This one is very well done, and I liked both the manga and the novella. The story has a good pace and is engaging, and you can't help but root for the characters. If you enjoy manga, I'd recommend this one, and if you're new to the art and enjoy Christine Feehan, I'd say this is a good place to start.

So I don't know how you're SUPPOSED to do it, but I tried reading this on my Kindle on my phone, my Kindle app on the iPad, and NetGalley shelf, and in none of the three were the manga panels completely readable. The larger-size ones, I could zoom in, but the smaller ones were impossible. It's really hard to review something that I can't read. What I *could* read, I enjoyed, although doing paranormal romance in a manga format easily skews towards cheesy. To be fair, the art was very well done; the characters looked consistent from page to page and from various angles, which is always a challenge. The scenery was well done and the cats were superb. I felt the text I could read gave a fairly good feel for the actual novella. From an artistic standpoint I guess I will give the artist the credit despite not being able to see at least a third of the panels.

Luckily, the actual novella was included after the manga portion finished, which was nice because it really fleshed out the story. As a novella and not a full-length novel a lot of the heft is missing, but I think in this circumstance it works. Riordan experiences instalove as with all Carpathians, and Juliette (as with all partners of Carpathians) quickly follows suit. I felt that Solange was the most interesting character, as Juliette doesn't feel the jaguar will "let her go" (an intriguing setup for a potential matchup). However, I liked Juliette and Riordan together and I enjoyed the story.

Also, I want to mention, the author's note made me tear up a little bit. I'm happy she found some peace for her son's memory through this project.

This is not my first book adaptation from a popular novel to a manga or comic book. This one is a re-release of a previously published manga of Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger novella. In this re-release it does include the full print novella that inspired the Dark Hunger manga, which is nice if you were wanting a little more from the story.

I was looking at previous confusion on what a manga book is, and I am no expert let me say this, but manga is different than comics in a couple of ways 1) they are almost always in black and white. 2) they are not dialogue heavy it uses the art to tell a chunk of the story. That is precisely what this adaptation does.

I do like Christine Feehan's book, generally, if I were going to pick out a Carpathian novel to adapt I would have started at the beginning, I felt that the first one had a great story and would have been a better introduction into this world for those that are picking up a Feehan book for the fist time. This didn't have much to work with as we were working with a tiny little novella instead of a full-flushed out book. Also, the novella wasn't that interesting to me. The story was more about the coupling of our 2 MCs instead of all the stuff going on around them, like kidnapped women, scary master vampire, etc. It just was not as impressive as it could have been. Also, there were things that a new reader wouldn't understand jumping into this book as opposed to starting from the beginning. For example: "I am now seeing color for the first time ever".

As for the art work, it was very well done. The artist did a great job with taking the descriptions of the characters and putting all of that into pretty great visualizations. There was a lot of time and talent put into the art work of this manga.

Overall, this book is just ok, I was a little disappointed because I was very excited about getting the chance to read it. There is very little 'story' or plot in this particular novella, but the art is great.

Wonderful New edition! Art by Pencils by Zid of Imaginary Friends Studios does an incredible job sharing the story of Riordan and Juliette and all the dangers and romance it entails. Along with the Carpathian and Jaguar people and the enemies they face. It brings the vibes and heart grabbing moments from the print Novella to the Manga! The reader gets both experiences in this edition because the entire Novella is included.

This edition also touched my heart due to the new Author Note, sharing the inspiration for the Jaguar people and her desire for choosing this Novella for the Manga format.

We meet the first of the De La Cruz Brothers, Ancients sent to protect the lands of South America from Vampire. It gives us a lot of well woven information in a short story!

Riordan, trapped by a master vampire, infected by an unknown poison killing him, blood continously sapped from his body as his cells are destroyed and he moves towards death. Until Juliette, saving animals from this guise of a deadly research lab, sets him free, saves his life in more than one way.
It's discovered the Morrison Agency is under control of a Master Vampire, using humans as puppets as they research traps, poisons, ways to conquer and kill Carpathians, their Prince.

We learn more about the Jaguar people. Rogue, deviant males are capturing raping torturing their own women, for children. What is behind this demand for children from women who can shift? Is it just that their race dying out? Were deals made with a Master Vampire? Are these males now puppets, or is there someone else pulling strings? Who was the Master Vampire? Awesome series plotline!

The couple's strength of heart and connection of souls has them saving each other, falling in love, overcoming challenges, and joining forces to protect all they both hold loyalty and love for. Love how Juliette grows to love Riordan, seeing the difference between his way with her, the respect and protection so much different than the control and abuse. Great read!

It was impossible to read the manga portion of this eGalley since it was not formatted properly and the scenes were very tiny. The novella being included in the end was a nice addition so readers can at least follow the story.

Unfortunately, this was soooo hard to read on the Netgalley and even Kindle apps. A lot of the text and images were relatively impossible to see. From what I could read however, it was enjoyable. I'm not a big fan of insta-love but considering the mate/lifemate trope it did make some sense.

The characters were interesting enough, as was the plot, but I have to say my reading experience was deterred because of the inability to read/see most of it. Therefore, I'm giving a 3 star for neutrality and will say I'm interested in reading this in either paperback form or with the ability to zoom in to see text/images more clearly.

I adored this very much! I think the art was nice, and it was true to the story being told. I loved the transformations in particular. Though I felt like the manga was missing some of the deep connection of the couple you would normally get from the novel, I thought it was still well done and enjoyable.

The novella included in this one was also lovely, and very on par with the series. I hope we get more of these in the future!

I love a good alphahole hero. I've heard great things about Feehan's Carpathians series, and yet, it never worked for me. I feel like the heroes would steamroll the heroines and that the heroines lacked agency in their own decisions. Again, love an alphahole...however I felt her heroes did notfit that description. But I saw the beauty of this graphic novel on Netgalley and couldn't hit that request button fast enough!

I loved it. I think with the way these graphic novels are set up, it works better for her world, and her characters. I also think that this will appeal to all audiences: the existing Feehan fans, the new to Feehan fans, and those like me who were on the fence. I really enjoyed the way it read. The story unfolds beautifully in the art, and with the main plot point of a vampire meeting his mate, and she's not ready to be his mate, yet she can't help herself. There's just something about him...

This medium really works for me.

That being said, while I enjoy the art a lot. I had a really hard time reading the ARC on any device I had.
Tablet, Kindle Fire, phone, Kindle Paperwhite. It was teeny tiny and wouldn't enlarge.
I don't need reading glasses yet, but boy for a hot second did I worry I might! However, if you can get your hands on this, I highly recommend it.

I did enjoy it, and I think Feehan's heroes work better for me in a graphic novel/manga format than in her novels. I liked this format better.

I really think the art is beautiful, I enjoyed the story, and I recommend reading the paperback.

Not my usual fair, to be very honest, but I enjoyed it as a quick read! The manga style was well done! The lore and world building was intriguing; it might actually entice me to read a bit more in this world.

Will highly recommend!

Dark Hunger's manga version brings this already exhilarating and captivating story to a whole new level. I found wondrous magic and wicked imagination within each page of this riveting tale. There is something so raw and primal about this story, and this new version truly did it justice and then some. I couldn't get enough of this breathtaking and dangerous journey, and my heart was unquestionably and irrevocably stolen by Feehan's magnificent characters along the way.

While following her heart, Juliette had no idea that it would lead her to her other half. While she may have fought their coming together, it was only to mask the tremendous and overwhelming connection that she found in her lifemate. She was not used to associating happiness, warmth, and love from the men she knew. This was a wholly foreign concept to her. While it's true that Riordan wasn't in the best of shape when they met, no one could have stopped him from claiming his lifemate. She was a vision of life and light in his dull and hopeless world. He would have done anything to convince her to stay and give them a chance. When Fate surprises us at the worse possible time with the best surprise ever, do we hold on tight and see our way through the darkness, or should we just walk away knowing it would never work out?

Watching Riordan fall deeply and savor Juliette made my heart skip more then a few beats. I was lost to their new and budding love, and I was madly voting for their hearts to win out. When I saw the love and compassion that Juliette received from Riordan without fail, I just knew that she wouldn't throw away that precious and rare gift. She wanted it with every fiber of her being, and she refused to live without it after finding it even by mere chance. These two are fire and ice that meld into an uncontrollable hurricane of love, passion, and hope. Wow! What a story!!

I truly cannot extole Christine Feehan's goddess level of creativity, soul, and heart that she never fails to pour into each of her books. She holds nothing back which makes them instant infernos of perfection! You will not want to miss any books in this series if you are a serious fan of paranormal romance. While Feehan may push your boundaries; it is only that she is expanding and growing your heart to discover and appreciate everything that she will reveal to you.

Such a beautiful retelling of the first book in the series! The art does wonder for the storytelling and I could not put it down like I couldn't put it down the first time I picked up this series! Kudos to Mrs. Feehan!

So, I ran into a lot of difficulties with reading this because I couldn't zoom in enough to read much of the text. What I could focus on is that the images were beautifully done. The story seemed to follow Feehan's typical Carpathian stories which I love, so I'm going to reserve my official judgment (and review) for when I buy the print version.
