What a fantastic debut novel!

My Roommate Is a Vampire is a laugh-out-loud, highly entertaining rom-com.

My Roommate Is a Vampire is smartly written with likable characters and an intriguing storyline. I adored the way Frederick was written. He was very old world, with Mr. Darcy-like tendencies. He was adorably clueless when it came to modern times and modern women and Cassie certainly gave him a run for his money.

This book kept me on my toes in the best possible way. I found myself laughing out loud so many times and almost always had a smile on my face. Cassie and Frederick were absolutely adorable together. I loved their interactions and banter. I loved the cute notes they left for each other. And despite them being the most unlikely pair, I couldn't get enough.

My Roommate Is a Vampire was an absolute joy to read. I easily devoured this book and was so surprised to find out that this book is this author's debut novel. If you're looking for a fun and unique rom-com, you won't want to miss My Roommate Is a Vampire.

Please believe me when I say that I rarely EVER read a whole book from start to finish in one sitting, especially an ebook. This one ensnared me and delighted me for 4 hours straight, nonstop. Fun, sexy, and clever, with compelling characters and a sprinkling of Buffy the Vampire Slayer references, this rom com is pure delight!
Thank you Berkley Romance for the eARC!

This book took me completely off-guard. I wasn't sure what to expect other than, you know, the heroine's roommate being a vampire. But the characters and their antics had me laughing from the first page.

The story follows Cassie Greenberg a down on her luck artist on the brink of eviction. When she finds a posting for a roommate in a beautiful Chicago neighborhood, it seems too good to be true. With his oddly formal wording, the owner comes off as an old man in their correspondence, so imagine her surprise when she visits the apartment for a tour and Frederick, the most handsome man she's ever met opens the door. On the surface he appears normal, but in reality he is far from it. He keeps odd hours, sleeping all day and going out all night on business, and speaks like a man out of time, and yet he also writes Cassie swoon-worthy notes, and makes her feel things no one else has. But when she finds bags of blood in their refrigerator one day, it appears Frederick has some explaining to do, and the explanation is nothing she could have ever imagined. As it turns out, Frederick happens to be a vampire, and he has a proposition for her.

This book was unhinged and I adored virtually every second of it. It had me laughing until I was crying, and the source of that humor was undoubtedly Frederick. I loved how he had absolutely no idea how to act in modern society, he truly was a man out of time, and it was so funny seeing how the smallest thing to us would be something that he couldn't even comprehend. One of my favorite parts was how each chapter would start with something from his perspective, whether it was texts with his vampire friend, his diary entries, or my personal favorite, his Google search history. It provided insight into what he was thinking while still keeping the bulk of the story within Cassie's POV.

Cassie and Frederick's chemistry was naturally electric, from their exchanged notes to their actual interactions. I was so invested in their relationship, and loved how Cassie helping Frederick assimilate to modern society just exponentially amplified their feelings for one another.

Overall this book was the perfect light-hearted and truly hilarious read. The only thing that kept it from being a full five stars was the way Cassie outsmarted the antagonist in the third act. I understood the humor behind it, but at the same time it felt a little too easy and was the only thing that really took me out of the story. However, that does not take away from how much I loved the story as a whole. It was such a unique and wonderfully executed concept, and I can't wait to see more from this author!

Cassie is desperate for a place to live, so despite her hesitation, she moves into an apartment with a roommate only asking for $200 a month. Soon, she realizes though that Frederick isn't just weird - he is a vampire. Despite this, she stays and soon she finds herself attracted to him.

This was a cute romance! It was easy to read, and there was never any crazy drama, which made it very enjoyable throughout. Is it going to blow you away with crazy amazing writing? No, probably not. However, it is a cute, easy romance with a slight twist in that one of the protagonists is a vampire!

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Swoon!!!!! I am obsessed with this, and everybody who knows me in real life is so irritated at this point bc I could not stop talking about this book!!!

Cassie is a struggling artist who finds a very cheap apartment on Craigslist. But why is it so cheap, and who is this very formal sounding roommate? Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is just so sweet. I mean, if a guy like this actually exists, then that's my endgame, ya'll. Of course, Cassie finds out he his a vampire and has to figure out if she trusts this very kind and very smexy man. (It's a romcom, so you have an idea, right?)

The one 🔥🔥🔥 scene lasted a whole chapter and made me very happy. I really found no faults in this book, and I definitely recommend this to romcom readers.

Out August 29, 2023!

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!

I heard a few mixed reviews regarding this book, so I kept that in mind when I read it again a few weeks later. And I am glad that I did because I actually enjoyed reading it rather than hating it. I am going to warn you, so keep it in mind. If you are expecting an in-depth or emotional romance story, this book isn’t it. It’s more of a light-hearted rom-com read with cutesy references. Keep that in mind, and you will enjoy this book more. And now, let’s get into My Roommate is a Vampire.

Since we are in the season of reading about vampires, it's a bit obvious that we read My Roommate is a Vampire. And I know what you are thinking; I am thinking it too. I want a vampire as a roommate too. It seems kind of fun. Cassie is having a fun time with her vampire roommate, but she kind of didn’t know it in the beginning. But she can move on from it, especially since her rent is love and she is falling in love with him.

Cassie may be down on her luck in the beginning, but she scores big time when she answers an ad for a roommate. It’s in a perfect location, and the rent is such a steal. She is obviously going to do it. You can’t blame her; we will all do it. It’s just that being roommates with a vampire is part of the deal, just silently. And it’s kind of funny how Cassie finds out and unravels with the news. She goes off the deep end for a bit. And it’s only because she started having feelings for him, Frederick.

Frederick is an old soul. And yes, I know the irony of it since he has been alive for many, many years as a vampire. But I love that he is still an old soul. He genuinely cares about Cassie's well-being as she starts living with him. It was a bit tricky at first because she didn’t know he was a vampire. But once the truth is revealed, things get better between them. They can actually form a relationship. You know they have feelings for each other. They are constantly writing notes, spending all of their free time together, encouraging each other about anything, and always looking out for each other.

✨ Review ✨ My Roommate Is a Vampire by Jenna Levine; Narrated by: Gilli Messer

This was such a fun read that doesn't take the genre of vampire writing TOO seriously.

Cassie Greenberg's about to get evicted from her Chicago apartment, because her art and odd jobs aren't paying the bills. When she answers a low-rent roommate ad on craigslist, she suspects the apartment is too good to be true. Frederick J. Fitzwilliam lives in a giant apartment, sleeps all day, and is gone all night -- making him the perfect roommate, but quickly Cassie begins to observe weird things...

Ultimately, Cassie finds that Frederick has become disconnected from the modern world and she works to orient him to the 21st century -- teaching him about ordering coffee, riding transit, etc. The silly miscommunications and details and this book are just such a delight and really made it enjoyable.

I loved Gilli Messer's narration, and this book helped me get out of a slump. It was light and funny with some intense romantic connection though that didn't necessarily feel like the core of the book.

All in all, a great reason for summer OR spooky season!

3.5 stars rounded up. Cassie Greenberg is a somewhat struggling artist living in Chicago who is a bit wary of a seems-too-good-to-be-true ad for a roommate in a downtown apartment. The title might have clued you in to this, but Frederick J. Fitzwilliam, who is advertising said apartment, is a vampire. The reader, of course, knows something is up right away, but this isn't something that Cassie is clued into until about a quarter of the way into the book. From there, mild silly hijinks ensue, with a slightly dramatic (but in a good way) conclusion.

This was a cute, light-hearted paranormal romance that shouldn't be taken too seriously. There wasn't a lot of depth, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the book. There were genuinely funny moments (Frederick's text exchanges were particularly fun to read) and the writing wasn't bad. This is best for readers who voraciously consume vampire stories, can handle a silly interpretation of vampire lore, and are looking for a quick read.

Do light and fluffy vampire romances work? I think this one does! I loved Frederick J. Fitzwilliam and found myself laughing quite as he and Cassie acclimate to each other (especially the cookware episode). Frederick gave me major Angel vibes from Buffy, which I appreciated quite a bit. If someone is looking for a light romance, this would be a good choice, even if they haven't read a lot of vampire fiction before.

This book was adorable and funny . A mean come on the plot is moving into an apartment to help your vampire roommate adapt to the modern world ! Yes sign me up . Fredrick is absolutely adorable and funny (even if he isn’t trying to ) and yes also sexy as hell !! I will happily take it .

I really enjoyed this books , loved the concept of it . The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was that I felt like there was overload of unnecessary information/detail . I get bored easily so for me I like it when it’s kept short and sweet . But I loved the character and the plot for sure . If your looking for a nice quick read definitely pick this book up !

silly goofy quirky fun. how fun it was to see these two navigate the world in their own ways but also with the help of one another.

This was exactly what I needed. A fun, steamy and sweet vampire book. Vampire is a huge buzz word for me; ahem..thank you Buffy The Vampire Slayer for that so I scoop up any book I can about vampires.
The plot of this is a little quirky and best not taken to seriously but it was a fun time.
Fredrick the 18th century vampire not knowing how to navigate the modern world and dresses in 3 piece suits and a top hat was adorable. The romance was cute and I had a fun time reading it.
Would recommend if your looking for a cute, somewhat silly and fun vampire read.

*Thank you so much to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the chance to review an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

This was delightful! Cassie is doubtful when she sees a listing for a roommate in a great part of Chicago for a crazy good price. However, things are as good as they seem, its a great apartment for an amazing price. Sure the furniture might be dated and her roommate might be a bit odd, but he sleeps the day away so she won't even see him. Things finally start looking up for Cassie until things get.....batty.

This was such a fun read. I loved the dynamic between Cassie and Fredrick, the notes they left for each other was my absolute favorite part of the book. I would say this book seems more like a rom-com rather than paranormal/fantasy romance. The story focuses more on Cassie and Fredrick and how they are getting to know one another than blood you expect from a vampire story. It is a funny and light read, something I would consider a beach read. I tend to enjoy my romance with a little more fantasy than this, I still really enjoyed this. I would also recommend this to someone who was unsure about fantasy, or wanted to be introduced to it.

Rating: 5 stars
Immediately after finishing this, I rushed over to see if Jenna Levine was working on a next novel, maybe a sequel to this. I had so much fun laughing out loud at Cassie and Fredericks conversations. As you can imagine teaching an ancient Vampire about TikTok will be nothing more than comical.

Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and Let's Talk Books for the advanced reader copy and to PRH Audio for the complimentary audiobook. These opinions are my own.

When Cassie sees an amazing apartment listed with an unbelievably cheap rent, she jumps at the chance for a new place to say. Her roommate is just a bit odd, with his habit of sleeping throughout the day and only emerging in the evening. But he seems incredibly wealthy and willing to keep everything she needs on hand. What could possibly go wrong?

I enjoyed the set-up of this story. I also really like the way in which Cassie's art used multimedia and spoke to how much people discard. I also loved Cassie's amazing friend.

But after an interesting start, this just got increasingly ridiculous over the course of the book. By the end, I no longer believed in the story much and wasn't really sold on the romance aspect. But listening to the audiobook definitely increased my enjoyment and kept me listening. I was especially impressed by Gilli Messer's phenomenal voicing of Frederick J. Fitzwilliam. She really sold the old world formality of his voice and kept me wanting to know what happened next.

Thank you PRH Audio for my alc

I’m a sucker for Vampires so it was a no brainer I wanted to read this book. The story started off strongly, I liked the banter and chemistry between the two main characters and I liked where everything was going until the the conflict and resolution happened. 😩 I found the resolution to be a little ridiculous and unbelievable. Yay for no third act breakup though!!! Also I highly suggest the audiobook that worked way better for me!

"Over the past two weeks I've discovered that in this city of millions, you are one of a kind." His words carried a quiet intensity I could feel in the pit of my stomach.”

Cassie & Mr. Frederick J. Fitzwilliam. She’s an art teacher (ish) and he’s… in his Victorian era 🤭🧛🏼‍♂️ THIS WAS SO FUN! I am head over fangs for this book! I loved it! The perfect blend of historical fiction, fantasy, and romance. Regarding your question concerning reading and purchasing my roommate is a vampire, you absolutely must.

Ps. I’m going to need Reggie’s book! Reggie + his very human accountant. Tell me it’s true!

This was, objectively, not a bad book.
It was just…fine.
I wasn’t connected to the story, the characters, the narration. There was no depth to anything. The writing was average. The Reylo cliches were plentiful (although to me, that’s more of an upside than anything).
Frederick was also…too much. Yes, he’s severely out of touch with the modern world but he shouldn’t be quite so infantile, in my opinion. He seems to have no idea of how human interaction works at all—he’s too blunt, clueless on even the existance of hyperbole or metaphors, etc—but those things aren’t really connected to when in time you existed. Hyperbole and social tact exist in Jane Austen’s writing.
There were a lot of plot holes. I hated everything about the ending—it was so low stakes and the resolution was ridiculous—and not in a good way. It was annoying to read.
I did enjoy Cassie as a main character, though I wish she’d had more depth to her character. I also loved the Taylor Swift references. That alone may have bumped it up a half-star rating because that had me giggling.
In the end, I don’t necessarily recommend this, but if it’s something you’re really interested in, I won’t stop you.

Spoiler alert- Cassie’s roommate is a Vampire 🧛‍♂️😏 Now that we have that out of the way…

I will confess the title and book cover alone had me wanting to read this. I grew up on shows like Buffy, Twilight, and the Munsters (Nike at Night🙌🏽 but I will admit I immediately thought of the Munsters while reading this.

It’s a fun story about a human, and a vampire, who become roommates. Its filled with mix media including, notes, letters and texts, and I really love that. Frederick is very formal and fits into the stereotype of the black and white vampires of the past, rather that the sparkling ones😉, but it’s what makes him so endearing. Cassie needs some good in her life and she finds it in the most unlike place.

If you’re a vampire, regency romance lover I think you’ll especially enjoy this one. While it does have a little steam, you could skim over it if that’s not your style, but if it is, I think you’ll enjoy that too. 😏

Thanks to Let's Talk Books Promo and Berkley for the copy of this book.

This book is such a fun read. Is it a bit cheesy? Yes. Was I laughing out loud very often? Also yes.

Cassie is about to be evicted when she stumbles upon a semi-shady ad for a $200 room in someone's realllllly nice place. Since she's desperate, she answers and meets ~the most gorgeous man she's ever seen.~ Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is EXTREMELY old school and awkward since he's been in a hundred-year coma, which is where the hilarity ensues. There are also great side characters and romance in this book, along with an absolutely ridiculous "help end the arranged marriage" storyline, and it was just honestly so enjoyable. Definitely a good pick if you need something more lighthearted around spooky season!
