This was a perfect read for October, fun premise and I really enjoyed how it played out.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
My Roommate is a Vampire was probably my favorite October read. I loved the direction this book took with a vampire romance. Frederick was such a interesting character. And I loved the way the story and their romance developed, it kept me guessing wondering where the story was going to lead. This book was fun and sexy and well done! Highly recommended!
Cassie Greenberg loves being an artist, but it’s a tough way to make a living. On the brink of eviction, she’s desperate when she finds a too-good-to-be-true apartment in a beautiful Chicago neighborhood. Cassie knows there has to be a catch—only someone with a secret to hide would rent out a room for that price.
Of course, her new roommate Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is far from normal. He sleeps all day, is out at night on business, and talks like he walked out of a regency romance novel. He also leaves Cassie heart-melting notes around the apartment, cares about her art, and asks about her day. And he doesn’t look half bad shirtless, on the rare occasions they’re both home and awake. But when Cassie finds bags of blood in the fridge that definitely weren’t there earlier, Frederick has to come clean...
Cassie’s sexy new roommate is a vampire. And he has a proposition for her.
Before reading this book myself, I had seen a lot of mixed reviews. Some people really didn't like it. Others were so so while even more still really loved it.
I am a huge fan of vampire related fiction and nonfiction, so I don't think it comes as any surprise that I loved it. From the cute and quirky cover to the fun and funny romantic shenanigans, this book hit all the major points for me.
The characters are relatively relatable (with the exception of the supernatural aspects) and they are fun and easy to love.
This hit all my my feel good fluffy romance markers. 10/10 would read again and highly recommend.
Jenna Levine's "My Roommate Is a Vampire" is a fun and quirky take on the classic roommate comedy with a supernatural twist. This book combines humor, romance, and the supernatural to deliver an engaging and entertaining story that will keep readers entertained from start to finish.
The novel introduces us to the protagonist, Lily, an ordinary college student looking for a place to live. Her life takes a fantastical turn when she ends up sharing her living space with a rather unconventional roommate, Eli, who just so happens to be a vampire. As they navigate the challenges of cohabitation, Lily discovers that living with a vampire can be both hilarious and full of unexpected surprises.
One of the novel's strengths is its humor and wit. Jenna Levine infuses the story with a playful and light-hearted tone, and the banter between the characters, particularly Lily and Eli, is both charming and laugh-out-loud funny. The juxtaposition of the mundane and the supernatural in everyday situations adds a delightful layer of comedy to the narrative.
The characters are endearing and relatable, with Lily serving as a likable and relatable protagonist. Her reactions to the unusual situations she finds herself in are realistic, and readers will easily connect with her as she tries to make sense of her new roommate's vampire quirks. Eli, on the other hand, is an intriguing and multi-dimensional character, balancing his supernatural nature with a strong sense of humor and humanity.
The pacing of the story is well-structured, and the plot maintains a good balance between humor and romance, all while exploring the challenges of accommodating a supernatural roommate. The novel also introduces a cast of supporting characters who add depth to the story and enhance the world-building.
It started with great potential, from the middle of it onwards it got a bit boring and the ending was really wtf without need. Cassie is cool, but Frederick looked more like a robot than a charming, I-don't-know-how-old vampire. I even found the ending cute and consistent with the story presented.
My Roommate is a Vampire is my latest recommended book. Seriously. I went to a baby shower as I was finishing this book and could not stop recommending. If you grew up watching "True Blood" and have wanted something lighter, contemporary, and a tad grumpy, then you have to read My Roommate is a Vampire. It's hilarious in how accurate it would be to real life - barring the whole vampire thing right? - and adorable all at once.
PSA: Everyone go buy this book immediately! It is GENUINELY one of the funniest laugh out loud rom coms I have ever read.
I'm still shook this is a debut??! I read this in literally one sitting because I couldn't stop myself from flipping through the pages. I was giggling 80% of this book.
This book needs to go below the definition of romantic comedy in the dictionary. It was entertaining, cute, and the paranormal aspect was *chefs kiss*. I'm a lover of romance and vampires, but this exceeded my expectations by a landslide.
Fredrick may be a vampire, but he is my new book boyfriend. He is the SWEETEST, kindest vampire ever and the little things he did for Cassie made me swoon! (The pots/pans, chicken soup, and Buffy the Vampire.... IYKYK)
The slow burn chemistry between Cassie and Fredrick is quite literally the best I've ever read. Not to mention the bedroom scenes, the spice was off the charts.
My FAV part about this book are the texts, diary entries, notes, and letters from Frederick's perspective. Oh my God. It made this book perfection.
Seriously, this is the perfect fall book and it's fall season! Go buy it. You will not regret it! I will shout from the rooftops about how amazing this book is.
This one is pure fun and a great kickoff to #spookyseason! Don’t judge me I know it’s early but I love any spooky vibes so I’m here for it!

Cassie is a struggling artist who needs somewhere to live fast and cheap.
She finds the solution in an ad. She finds herself rooming with Fredrick J Fitzwilliam, a formal man who looks like he is right out of the pages of an regency romance, sleeps all day and is extremely formal? There’s nothing suspicious about that right?! Her suspicions come to a head when she finds her fridge full of blood and he must come clean about what he really is. The audio of this is super fun and always love when a book is set in the Chicagoland area!

Huge thank you to @berkleypub @berittalksbooks @thephdivabooks @dg_reads @prhaudio and @netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

*4.5 stars
This book was VERY cuteeeeee...
It made me swoon and it made me laugh until I peed my pants. Fredrick's naivety towards the modern era was so fun and I loved when he pointed out the stupidity of it all because he of course was very right. Cassie was also very patient with him like he was a small raging toddler and it was very entertaining.
And though the book was very adorable a majority of the time, there was some steamy moments that made me aghast in surprise. It was a VERY welcome surprise, but it made me wish for more...
I also thought the ending was just a tad rushed... It was like a blinked and the conflict was over and we were already at the happily ever after.
Overall, this book was ADORABLE and if you are looking for a vampire book that is more on the side of cute rather than dark, pick this one up!
If you are looking for a quick, fun read this is a great choice to go with!
a vampire who is so out of touch with the modern world, hes only asking 200$ a month for rent for a roommate. our fmc takes the offer, of course before knowing hes a vampire.
this was such a fun book! highly recommend
This story, just a refreshingly wholesome take on a vampire romance that never fails to make my heart beat a little faster. A truly stunning debut.
I absolutely loved this one! It was just a silly goofy time and I had a great time reading it. I also loved that there was no third act breakup which I find is really rare to find in romcoms! Would definitely recommend this one.
My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is a cute, surprising, and satisfying read about a young, extremely broke artist who ends up living with a vampire.
If you are looking for a quick, fun read (or listen) this is a good choice. As a debut novel I think the author has a lot of potential as she continues to write. Her descriptions of the vampire Frederick Fitzsimmons were often laugh out loud funny. Imagine taking a Regency character from Downton Abbey and bringing them into the world of cell phones, automatic coffee makers and the casual way millennials dress and there is a ton of fodder to laugh at.
The mystery aspect was a little far fetched for me but I was invested enough to see it through. Right now paranormal is having a moment for mainstream readers so I think this is a great entry point for many readers scared to go out of their comfort zone.
I wonder if a short novella or a sequel is coming to see how Cassie and Frederick fair as a couple. Hope so!
When Cassie sees an incredible apartment listing for only $200 a month, she's almost certain it's a scam or a serial killer. In reality, her new roommate is a vampire who is completely out of touch with modern society and is hoping to learn more about the modern world by having a human roommate. This is such a fun take on a vampire romance. I really enjoyed Frederick's attempts to understand modern life.
This is a really charming debut truly. The vampire was definitely just a fun and unique character to romance
Let me start of by saying - I'm not one for many seasonal reads or romantic comedies, so my feedback should be taken with a pinch of salt, but this one felt quirky and funny and worth a try!
Ultimately it comes down to this for me: it was weird. SO weird. SO quirky. And... I wanted it to be quirkier! As a regular reader of "literary fiction", I felt like with a couple tweaks and switches, this truly could've been twisted and great. What lacked for me was the romance aaaand much of the climax of the story was SO devoid of tension and lackluster.... I don't need a 3rd act breakup in every book, but I do need a little more substance, ya know?
On a finer point, I felt a little more disconnected from the FMC, she's quirky, a little adrift, and wanting to find a space where she feels understood and appreciated. I absolutely believe in having narrators and main characters like this! BUT, at times I felt like it was so exaggerated that it left me trying to understand the chemistry between her and the MMC. On another note, though, Fredrick was a sweet lil bean and just so cute - the redemption of it all!
This one wasn't for me - it's sitting at 2.5 ⭐️ for me. I think fans of Ali Hazelwood's writing style that are looking for a fun holiday read would enjoy!
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Format: E-book/Audiobook
4🌟 - I liked it!
Thank you @berkleypub and @berkleyromance for the #gifted copy and to @prhaudio for the #gifted audiobook!
What a fun and silly little book! This was the perfect seasonal read 🧛🏻. I loved Fredrick, and found him to be the most endearing cinnamon roll hero!
This book had me giggling and was the perfect palate cleanser between some more serious reads! Looking forward to more reads by this author.
If you’re looking for a lighthearted paranormal rom-com, consider picking this one up!
What a cute novel for this fall season. The male main character to me, was cute rather than so hot as the novel described... he was just sol old (in vampire years) and kinda dorky in a cute way! I was entertained the entire book and I liked that it was a unique story.

I thought this one was really cute! A centuries old vampire who is giving Bridgerton vibes with a modern artist? I loved the combination, and it was a very cute easy read. My only complaint was the ending, it felt a bit rushed and honestly, I wanted more of these two lol because I really enjoyed them.
This book is… fine. It was a fun enough romp to disappear into for a few days, and the spice definitely brought the heat, but it certainly didn’t blow me away.
I did love the text messages, letters, etc. from Frederick’s POV that opened the chapters - it provided such a great way to get to know our male MC while sticking with a first-person narration. The texts between Frederick and Reginald were especially LOL-worthy!
If you’re looking for a change from the typical witchy romances that pop up this time of year, My Roommate is a Vampire is a great option!
