Thank you Berkley Romance and Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I have been SO EXCITED to read this book since I saw it announced! I am so here for this paranormal RomCom renaissance happening in publishing right now and My Roommate Is A Vampire is a perfect addition! Thus story is sweet and zany and FUN! Cassie is every struggling Millenial/Zillenial right now and I couldn't have related to her story more. Wanting to follow her passions and dreams, but stuck working deadens jobs just to barely pay her bills instead.

Enter Frederick, aka the broody regency vampire hero of our dreams! The two of them together were so much fun to watch. I found myself constantly giggling and kicking my feet as they spent more and more time together. I especially loved the little epistolary snippets every chapter from Fredrick's POV, they were such a great surprise!

I can't wait to see more from Levine, and hopefully more in this world! Perhaps a Reginald story? 👀

This was a really fun read. I loved that it was a rom-com with vampires and was really lighthearted. The premise/plotline was cute and clever and I enjoyed how the chemistry progressed between the two main characters.

This book was so silly in the best way, I mean the title says it all. When Cassie moves into Frederick J. Fitzwilliam's home after finding an insanely good deal on rent she starts to notice things aren't completely "normal". Cassie is able to look past some of his weird tendencies, he sleeps all day, is out at night on business, and talks like he walked out of a regency romance novel. But he also leaves Cassie heart-melting notes around the apartment, cares about her art, and asks about her day. And he doesn’t look half bad shirtless, on the rare occasions they’re both home and awake. But when Cassie finds bags of blood in the fridge that definitely weren’t there earlier, Frederick has to come clean.

My thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book 😍 Frederick was such a gentleman and just kept me laughing. I feel like I just had a huge smile on my face the whole time I was reading this and is the perfect cozy read. I loved seeing Cassie grow more confident and being empowered throughout the story! We love a man that supports growth and embraces your qualities. I think this is a fantastic debut and I 100% recommend it. To my romance lovers.. make sure this makes it to your TBR if it’s not in it already. Congrats @jennalevinewrites on this fun debut!

This book was a lot of fun, but a bit underwhelming. It’s perfect for those of us, myself very much included, that love spooky season but actually hate being scared. It did leave me wanting a bit more though when it came to depth. The characters were not very developed, and maybe I’ve been reading too many romcoms lately but the FMC that cannot understand why someone would think she’s beautiful/desirable by the MMC/whatever is very much one of the most bland character traits out there.
Fredrick, our MMC, is quite literally the sweetest golden retriever, but I wish there was more to him than just that. The author avoids having to delve too much into vampire world building by letting Cassie, the FMC, want to know as little as possible about it. That feels very much ‘I didn’t want to write it’ and very dumb behavior for someone living with a vampire. It also made the 3rd act conflict very weird! I wanted to like this one more. I didn't hate it but it left something to be desired.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by my enjoyment of this one. It’s fun, laugh-out-loud funny, sweet, with just the right amount of spice. If you are looking for a bingeable romcom but with vampires that’s perfect to enjoy during spooky season, this is your book.

Think struggling Chicago based artist who is getting evicted from her apartment when she stumbles upon a craigslist ad that just seems too good to be true. What she doesn’t know is that her future roommate is a three-hundred-year-old vampire who has been in a coma for the last one hundred years and is secretly looking for a human roommate to help him learn to acclimate to modern times. You can guess what happens next. I don’t blame the girl for pining after her insanely hot roommate, even if he doesn’t have a heartbeat.

Honestly, my favorite part of this book was the back-and-forth letters between Cassie and Fredrick. I love how their relationship bloomed through these heartfelt and hilarious letters to each other. Also, the dynamic between Fredrick and Reginald kept me laughing the whole time! Their love/hate relationship was almost as fun to follow as the main love story. Frederick’s old fashion ways were also endearing especially as we slowly find out more of his back story.

Pick this one up if you love:

-Paranormal romance
-Three-hundred-year-old vampires
-Lots of letters, texts, and diary entries (This was my favorite part!)
-Laugh out loud moments
-Loveable side characters
-Roommates to lovers
-Just the right amount of spice

My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed, but it did not pull from my overall enjoyment of this one. Levine is definitely a new one to watch out for!

I was sucked into this one from the first chapter (no pun intended?). The quirky-cuteness of this had me giggling pretty much the whole time, and some of the silliness had me stopping to tell my partner about what was happening so someone else could laugh with me. There were some spicy scenes that felt a little out of place within the overall cheesiness of the plot, but overall I think this is a fun. fast rom-com to kick off fall with!

This is a fun and fluffy take on the vampire-human romance trope. I particularly enjoyed Frederick's text messages with Raymond; they read a lot like Daniel M. Lavery's Texts from Jane Eyre, and I could have read a whole book's worth of them. I wish the writing were less surface level--for example, I wanted to know more about the logistics of vampirism and Frederick's history--but the romance is cute, and I enjoyed witnessing Cassie's personal and professional growth.

Cassie is a struggling artist. She’s working two jobs – and is still getting evicted. When she finds a room for rent at an unbeatable price, in the perfect location, she can’t pass it up.

Fredrick is an unusual roommate. He sleeps all day, and is busy all night. He loathes texting and communicates via handwritten letters. He also dresses like someone from decades ago.

One evening Cassie comes home early and gets an unexpected surprise. Time for Fredrick to come clean. Will Cassie go running, or will she help the handsome guy out?

I was looking for a fun read to give me a pick me up and grabbed this one off my TBR. It ended up being the perfect book to make me smile! This book was the perfect length – it was well paced and ended up being a quick read. I loved all the characters. Reginald was just fantastic and his and Fredrick’s texts to each other were probably by far my favorite part of the book. Except maybe Cassie and Fredricks notes to each other. The only thing I found lacking was more of the story from Fredrick’s point of view, while the texts and letters were nice, some chapters from his point of view would have been just fantastic.

I loved this book so much and can’t wait for you to read it on August 29th! If you’re looking for a fun twist on a vampire book, then do yourself a favor and grab this one.

A charming PNR romance perfect for your spooky season TBR!

Starving artist, Cassie, has found herself in a precarious position as she’s about to be evicted from her apartment. However, a Craigslist ad for a roommate in a ritzy part of town that seems too good to be true may just be the fix to the biggest of her problems. Frederick Fitzwilliam, the tenant seeking roommate, looks like he stepped out of Regency era England (and talks like it too). Cassie moves in and quickly realizes that there is far more to Frederick than meets the eye and her new roommate might be something more than human.

I was hooked in this story after reading a line about Buffy The Vampire Slayer and choosing between Angel and Spike, but the main character says Giles, obviously. Immediate green flag 🤣 This was a quick read romance and it did move a bit slow at first, but I loved how it all came together. Frederick reminded me a bit of Mr. Darcy and I did love that so very much. Frederick and Cassie’s interactions in public and lessons on adapting to the modern world were my favorite part of the book. I would’ve loved the addition of some vampire lore, but overall I thought this was a cute rom-com!

Prefacing this review by saying that I am not a paranormal reader, I had SO MUCH FUN reading My Roommate is a Vampire - Jenna Levine's debut romance. A vampire who comes out of a 100+ year coma (think living in Downton Abbey) invites a millenial to move in to teach him about modern society - however, she has no idea exactly why Fredrick sleeps during the day, speaks the way he does and so much more. I loved the way this unfolded and following along with Cassie & Fredrick's relationship - finding myself smiling constantly at their interactions.

I truly cannot wait to read more from Levine in the future.

Thank you to Berkley Romance for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

In this debut from Jenna Levine, starting artist Cassie Greenberg needs a place to stay ASAP and she doesn't exactly have the money to rent. When she sees a room for rent for $200 she knows it's too good to be true, but she pursues it anyway.

When she meets the rental owner, Frederick Fitzwilliam isn't exactly like the other adults she knows. He's a bit out of touch with the times, and it's true he isn't around much, but she finds out why when she discovers a bag of blood in the fridge. Ruh Roh. That is a bit of a problem for Cassie in the beginning.

This is a cute little fish out of water story with Frederick really not assimilating this century well. So Cassie is going to help him and in the process of teaching him how to live in the real world, she also develops feelings toward Frederick. There's some very cute stuff in the notes they send to each other and that was a lot of fun.

This is a light-hearted, slow burn paranormal romantic comedy. I liked that it kept things light, since sometimes paranormal romance can get a bit dark. There was a bit of a slow start, then things picked up and seemed to end too quickly.

I need to mention that there is a great supporting character in Reginald and I liked his page time very much. The story is told from Cassie's point of view, and it might have been nice to hear more from some of the other characters so that the reader can better connect with them.

Overall, this was a nice debut. Will be looking for future titles from this author.

This book follows Cassie who due to a lot of very poor decisions needs a place to live but can't afford anywhere. She comes across an add on Craigslist for an apartment at a good price and decides to answer even though she thinks it's a trap. Her new roommate is very odd but she just ignores it until she discovers he's a vampire.

This book started off with so much promise although it was clunky but it quickly became boring. It's been awhile since I read a romance where we spent so much time getting to know the couple but still knew nothing about them. Cassie is an artist who makes art by painting and sticking trash to canvases. Frederick acts like her doodles on the notes they leave for each other are fabulous paintings. Frederick is a vampire who was asleep for 100s of years but we learn little about his backstory and when he was awakened. Cassie doesn't ask him questions and even admits she doesn't really know him. All we learn about vampires is what Buffy the Vampire Slayer tells us about vampires.

There's some instant attraction and tension where readers should be just waiting for them to have sex but even then it's one scene and kind of a let down.

It took me over a week to finish this and even at the 90% mark I was still struggling. The external drama in the 3rd act wasn't really built up so it didn't land.

I’ll admit I was drawn in by the cover and the premise - sounded like a fun read! Unfortunately, the execution really didn’t work for me and I decided to DNF at 20%. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is not my usual reading fare. I tend to like darker, bloodier stories. However, when the publisher approached me about a review copy, my love of vampires refused to let me ignore the pitch. I am happy to say I do not regret saying yes.

My Roommate is a Vampire is cute and campy and everything you would want from a paranormal rom-com. Not only did I start and finish it in one sitting, I laughed out loud several times. Frederick, in all his earnest cluelessness, is priceless. Ms. Levine makes it too easy to picture his attempts to fit into modern society. Cassie is a great character as well, but it is Frederick who steals the show.

Like most rom-coms, what you see is what you get. There are few plot twists, a dearth of development, and nothing complex about it. My Roommate is a Vampire is pure escapism, and I am here for all of it.

Cassie is a struggling artist that is down on her luck and about to be evicted from her apartment. Stressed about finding somewhere she can afford to live, she stumbles on a craiglist ad that is too good to be true. She knows there has to be a catch, the owner has to be hiding something in order to rent out his second bedroom for such a low price.

Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is looking for a roommate. He sleeps all day and is out most nights and talks like her is from a different time. They get to know each other over handwritten notes and the occasional interaction, and although Fredrick is far from normal, he makes her feel understood, and he is kinda hot. Then Cassie comes home one day to find the fridge full of bags of blood. Fredrick is forced to come clean, he is a vampire and wants Cassie to stay in his life.

The concept for this one was so much fun. A romcom with a sweet, sexy, polite vampire, and a hot mess express heroine. Unfortunately the romance did not work for me, I just could not buy their chemistry. Overall I had a fun time, and I would definitely read from this author again. It has really put me in the spooky, paranormal rom com mood.

The blurb for this book is what initially drew me in, but I found this book to be a bit disappointing. It is not a bad book perse, just not one that I particularly enjoyed.

In the beginning, Cassie finds herself in search of a new apartment as she's getting evicted from her current place. After finding this ridiculous listing online, she moves in immediately to Fredrick J. Fitzwilliam's apartment in a nice neighborhood in Chicago. This humorous and entertaining story follows Cassie and Frederick as they navigate living together as human and vampire (as Cassie comes to find out). It was the romance between the characters that fell short for me as it was rushed and underdeveloped. Not to mention that Fredrick's way of speaking bounces back and forth between a formal and modern tone. It unfortunately takes you out of the story.

Most of the story fell a bit flat for me, but overall it was still an entertaining read. I would recommend for anyone taking a dip back into reading who wants a paranormal romance with some humor.

My Roommate is a Vampire has some fall, Halloween vibes but really, it is just a hilarious story of a woman who answers a Craigslist ad for a cheap room to rent, only to find her roommate is a bit odd. An odd but super hunky vampire. Think Edward Cullen without the weird creepy Bella staring. This book had me laughing out loud. It was so goofy and funny and I loved the dynamics between them. The partial epistolary format of letters and texts added to the quirkiness and humor. It was very creative and different and made me smile while reading it. And who doesn’t want to reading some vampire spicy 🔥 scenes!

3.75stars--MY ROOMMATE IS A VAMPIRE by Jenna Levine is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, paranormal romance story line focusing on three hundred year old vampire Frederick J Fitzwilliam, and artist Cassie Greenberg.

Told from first person perspective (Cassie) and journal entries /letters from Frederick, MY ROOMMATE IS A VAMPIRE follows the building relationship between Frederick and Cassie. Cassie needs a place to stay: she is being evicted and is surprised when a room in a well to do Chicago neighborhood is available at a very low price. Meeting her potential roommate and landlord Frederick J Fitzwilliam, Cassie knows immediately that something is different as the man seems to be living in a different era but Cassie is unaware that her new roommate’s idiosyncrasies are part and parcel of what and who he is. Frederick Fitzwilliam has awoken in a time and place he knows nothing about, and his only friend has suggested advertising for a roommate, someone to help Frederick acclimate into the twenty-first century but all is not well in Frederick’s life when the past demands more than he is willing to deliver. What ensues is the building relationship between Frederick and Cassie, and the potential fall-out as Frederick finds himself a victim of the old ways, and the people he thought he left behind.

The world building focuses on Frederick’s desperate need to fit in. Cassie is the woman with whom Frederick will fall in love but Cassie had been kept in the dark, unaware that she was to become Frederick’s teacher, companion and friend. As Cassie struggles to come to terms with the who and what of Frederick J. Fitzwilliam, Frederick must come to terms with a world that is nothing like the one he left behind.

The relationship between Cassie and Frederick begins as roommates but Frederick struggled to reveal his true nature and what he was. Cassie will discover Frederick’s secrets but Frederick has already fallen for the woman who will set him free in the modern world. Frederick Fitzwilliam is slightly awkward, stilted and confused but his love for Cassie is what keeps him alive. The lone $ex scene is passionate.

We are introduced to Frederick’s questionable friend and twenty-first century guide Reginald, as well as Cassie’s best friends Sam and Scott.

MY ROOMMATE IS A VAMPIRE is an engaging and quirky story line. The characters are flirty, spirited and animated but we needed Frederick’s first person perspective to completely understand his struggles and fears; the romance is fated, intimate and tender. I am hoping the author has plans for Cassie and Frederick’s continuing story-MY ROOMMATE IS A VAMPIRE ends on a happily ever after-for now.
