unfortunately, this is a DNF @45% for me due to millennial cringe overload
Was really in love with the premise and the opening of this book, I had high hopes this would be a cozy paranormal romance to curl up with on a rainy day. Unfortunately, i found it more cringey than cozy. I really didn't like how the modern world was introduced to 300 year old vampire Fredrick John Fitzwilliam (overlooked the name at first and the further i got into this story the stupider it became). I managed to get 45% and felt absolutely no chemistry between the two leads. Overall, felt very cookie cutter with the comical moments falling flat for me. I don't particularly care to know how this ends.

I love paranormal romantic comedies and have been fortunate to read quite a few recently. Imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon Jenna Levine's debut, a vampire rom-com! I knew I had to check it out! This book was sweet and charming and truly lived up to my expectations. It's got a lot of whimsy and magic, and you'll definitely be smiling and laughing out loud throughout the book. This story is about love in its many forms - the love between romantic partners, friends, and even self-love. The quirky cast of characters was entertaining. Cassie, Frederick, and even Reggie were loveable and fun to read. Frederick was the perfect book boyfriend! The dynamic between Cassie and Frederick was the right amount of sweetness and spice. Cassie is such a lovable mess. And the clueless Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is a charming and stylish cinnamon-roll vampire who will steal your heart, just like he did Cassie's.
This story was a delightful rom-com! It is the perfect addition to your spooky season reading list! Grab your copy! Thank you, NetGalley and Berkley Romance, for a copy of this fantastic book.

If you’re looking for a fun paranormal romance read for this spooky season this is it!
It’s a slow burn romance but the plot is quirky and entertaining. The vampire, Frederick, was the best part of the book. He made we laugh out loud so many times with his three-piece suit and top hat and his Taylor Swift Google search just so he could have a conversation starter at a party. He was such a delight! My only complaint was that the ending felt a little too rushed and it was left open ended. I’m hoping there is a sequel to find out what happens to Frederick and Cassie.

The premise was cute but I was a little thrown off by the insta-love that happened in this. Took some points off for the instalove.

This was really really promising in the first 30% or so, but then it started to go downhill. There was so much telling and just not enough showing. In romance, we're supposed to understand why these two people are supposed to be together but I just didn't understand that here. Also, the TikTok third act was so so hard to read as in a did anyone under 25 beta read this?

Cassie has been a struggling artist since finishing school, and he landlord is tired of the late payments, leading to an eviction notice on the door. When a fantastically located apartment shows up on her search for only $200 a month, she knows there must be a catch but she can’t afford to not reach out. Her new roommate Frederick is a little bit…ok a lot of bit weird, but he is also insanely hot. When she finds a fridge full of blood bags however, his weirdness goes a bit too far.
This book was just a complete delight. I think we all know if a nice apartment in the ideal location came up for only $200 a month we would jump on that! Ok, so I would totally bring a very muscled male friend to the first meeting but still! This book had me laughing out loud with Frederick’s crazy old school style, way of speaking, and general personality. Meanwhile, Cassie was such a kind hearted person that just made me want good things for her! I found this to be a very fun book that kept me insanely entertained.

One of my fave reads of the year! This book was super fun. I especially liked the letters and notes that started each chapter. Such a nice touch that really helped you to see Frederick's character. Can't wait to read more books by Jenna Levine.
Thank you to Jenna and Berkley for the advance copy.

This book was SO much fun! As someone who wants to lean into the Halloween and fall vibes early, this was a great segue!
I had so much fun with the characters in this story and I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next!

The book revolves around Cassie, a lovely and quirky artist who couldn’t find a proper art job or hold the house for more than a few months and Frederick, a vampire with Mr Darcy vibe.
Writing is entertaining and delightful, and fast-paced. The story is told in Cassie’s refreshing voice. I loved having Fredrick’s POV through text, letters, and diary entries. Plot is simple and sweet and yet it kept me hooked to the story till the end.
I loved the concept of an eccentric 300 yrs old landlord trying to adapt in the modern world with the help of a human roommate and trying not to involve feeling in it. Just thinking about the situation itself conjures many amusing and hilarious scenarios and the author included them all so perfectly in the story making it a very cute vampire romcom.
Both characters are lovely and adorable. Cassie has lots of self-doubts. Not getting any proper art job after graduation, having financial troubles, and not being able to hold rent apartment for almost 10 yrs she has been living in Chicago has chipped her confidence and belief in herself. Even though she had no hopes of finding the art teacher job that she always wanted she kind of enjoyed her part-time jobs in the library and at the cafe.
Her reaction to finding low-rent house with Victorian decor, Fredrick’s eccentric habits, and finding out he is a vampire was genuine. I liked how she came to terms with the whole vampire thing and how being with Fredrick made her believe in herself and her talent.
Fredrick is adorable and total gentleman as you would expect from a guy who was last awake in the Victorian era. Everything about him from his cluelessness about how to dress in 21st century, how to order coffee, and how to use the internet to his Victorian writing style and manners made me smile.
I agree with Reginald (his only vampire friend who made me laugh as much as all other silly situations and now I want his romantic story too), his Vampiric power was ridiculous and amusing.
His story behind why he needed Cassie’s help to blend in the modern world was not how I expected. I wish there was more depth there. He goofed up so many times that I wondered how this guy survived the last few weeks after waking up! I loved how supportive, observant, and compassionate he was. And I was surprised how fast he learned things.
Romance is super heartwarming, cute, and a little slow-burn. Chemistry and attraction between Cassie and Fredrick is hot and palpable but they both were holding back for different reasons. It’s a huge age gap trope with Fredrick being extra formal hundreds of years old guy who has no clue how to date a modern girl that adds many awkward and amusing laugh-out-loud moments.
I expected many hot scenes but there is only one bedroom scene and that too near the climax, it was also different from the dark vampire romance I read some time ago. I didn’t feel disappointed as it actually fits the overall fluffy feel of the book.
I anticipated drama based on what Frederick was still not telling Cassie but when it came to the climax, it was a lot different than how I guessed which is also good. That conflict actually turned out ridiculously silly and I laughed at Cassie’s solution to it. End is easy, fun, and feel good.
Why 4 stars-
I wish there was more about Fredrick and the vampire community. We don’t really get many vampirish things one expect from a vampire book. Also, it was hard to believe Fredrick had only one friend even though he was in a coma for the last 100 years.
There clearly are other liberal vampires like him around but he didn’t try to get in touch with them. There isn’t also big revelations or development that i would at least have expected from his family who were super traditional.
I thought Cassie would involve Sam in the climax but she didn’t. He is her best friend and she never talked about Fredrick being a vampire with him at all in the entire book. It feels like Sam was just there in the name. I would totally be okay if there was no friendship between them.
Overall, My Roommate Is a Vampire is entertaining, delightful, fluffy cute vampire romcom with many laugh-out-loud and some silly moments. I had a fun time reading this.

you could sayyyy i’m ready for fall reads and spooky szn… 🦇🩸🗝️
this was a fun fall read for SURE. (definitely has me inspired to make a themed reading guide!) it has all the cute tropes of forced proximity and “they were roommates!” with added layers of the paranormal (perfect for you twilight fans, but done SO MUCH BETTER). they communicate via notes on the kitchen table (swoon), she helps him learn how to live in this century (adorable), he has an arranged engagement that comes back to haunt him (kind of literally), he has an off-limits room that’s for the most surprising reason… it just has such fun bones and made for a great evening of entertainment!
thanks to @berkleyromance for this one! 🖤

Thank you Berkley for the gifted copy.
Ok, confession...I have a *thing* for vampires in fiction. It started back with Interview, which I first saw when it came out in the theaters, and then read (in middle school). So when I saw this one on Berkley's fall list, I jumped on the chance to read it - and I'm so glad I did because it was quirky, and fun, and had a little steam, and I just adored it.
Cassie is an artist living on a tight budget when she comes across an ad for a room to rent - at only $200 a month. There must be something wrong with the apartment, or the landlord, right? She meets Frederick, and yeah, he's a bit odd, but she still takes the room. She finds him entertaining in a quirky way, with his old fashioned dress and mannerisms and speech, but hey, it's $200 a month which is too good to pack up.
Until she makes a startling discovery in the refrigerator...then everything changes.
Frederick might be my newest book boyfriend. I loved his old fashioned mannerisms, and his letters to Cassie were so cute. His vampire "talent" might be my favorite quirk of the book.
Grab this one for a fun and light read as we head into spooky season!

Thank you Berkley Romance and Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
I have been SO EXCITED to read this book since I saw it announced! I am so here for this paranormal RomCom renaissance happening in publishing right now and My Roommate Is A Vampire is a perfect addition! Thus story is sweet and zany and FUN! Cassie is every struggling Millenial/Zillenial right now and I couldn't have related to her story more. Wanting to follow her passions and dreams, but stuck working deadens jobs just to barely pay her bills instead.
Enter Frederick, aka the broody regency vampire hero of our dreams! The two of them together were so much fun to watch. I found myself constantly giggling and kicking my feet as they spent more and more time together. I especially loved the little epistolary snippets every chapter from Fredrick's POV, they were such a great surprise!
I can't wait to see more from Levine, and hopefully more in this world! Perhaps a Reginald story? 👀

This was the perfect book to get me into the spooky fall mood. I loved it so much, can't wait to read more from this author!

This was a really fun read. I loved that it was a rom-com with vampires and was really lighthearted. The premise/plotline was cute and clever and I enjoyed how the chemistry progressed between the two main characters.

This book was so silly in the best way, I mean the title says it all. When Cassie moves into Frederick J. Fitzwilliam's home after finding an insanely good deal on rent she starts to notice things aren't completely "normal". Cassie is able to look past some of his weird tendencies, he sleeps all day, is out at night on business, and talks like he walked out of a regency romance novel. But he also leaves Cassie heart-melting notes around the apartment, cares about her art, and asks about her day. And he doesn’t look half bad shirtless, on the rare occasions they’re both home and awake. But when Cassie finds bags of blood in the fridge that definitely weren’t there earlier, Frederick has to come clean.

This book is perfect for people that enjoy:
🧛 a good banter
👠 slow burn
🧛 paranormal romance
👠 forced proximity
🧛 a book that will make you giggle
👠 age gap (a few 100 years 🤭)
My thoughts:
I thoroughly enjoyed this book 😍 Frederick was such a gentleman and just kept me laughing. I feel like I just had a huge smile on my face the whole time I was reading this and is the perfect cozy read. I loved seeing Cassie grow more confident and being empowered throughout the story! We love a man that supports growth and embraces your qualities. I think this is a fantastic debut and I 100% recommend it. To my romance lovers.. make sure this makes it to your TBR if it’s not in it already. Congrats @jennalevinewrites on this fun debut!
p.s. thank you @netgalley & @berkleyromance for my gifted eARC!

This book was a lot of fun, but a bit underwhelming. It’s perfect for those of us, myself very much included, that love spooky season but actually hate being scared. It did leave me wanting a bit more though when it came to depth. The characters were not very developed, and maybe I’ve been reading too many romcoms lately but the FMC that cannot understand why someone would think she’s beautiful/desirable by the MMC/whatever is very much one of the most bland character traits out there.
Fredrick, our MMC, is quite literally the sweetest golden retriever, but I wish there was more to him than just that. The author avoids having to delve too much into vampire world building by letting Cassie, the FMC, want to know as little as possible about it. That feels very much ‘I didn’t want to write it’ and very dumb behavior for someone living with a vampire. It also made the 3rd act conflict very weird! I wanted to like this one more. I didn't hate it but it left something to be desired.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by my enjoyment of this one. It’s fun, laugh-out-loud funny, sweet, with just the right amount of spice. If you are looking for a bingeable romcom but with vampires that’s perfect to enjoy during spooky season, this is your book.
Think struggling Chicago based artist who is getting evicted from her apartment when she stumbles upon a craigslist ad that just seems too good to be true. What she doesn’t know is that her future roommate is a three-hundred-year-old vampire who has been in a coma for the last one hundred years and is secretly looking for a human roommate to help him learn to acclimate to modern times. You can guess what happens next. I don’t blame the girl for pining after her insanely hot roommate, even if he doesn’t have a heartbeat.
Honestly, my favorite part of this book was the back-and-forth letters between Cassie and Fredrick. I love how their relationship bloomed through these heartfelt and hilarious letters to each other. Also, the dynamic between Fredrick and Reginald kept me laughing the whole time! Their love/hate relationship was almost as fun to follow as the main love story. Frederick’s old fashion ways were also endearing especially as we slowly find out more of his back story.
Pick this one up if you love:
-Paranormal romance
-Three-hundred-year-old vampires
-Lots of letters, texts, and diary entries (This was my favorite part!)
-Laugh out loud moments
-Loveable side characters
-Roommates to lovers
-Just the right amount of spice
My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed, but it did not pull from my overall enjoyment of this one. Levine is definitely a new one to watch out for!

I was sucked into this one from the first chapter (no pun intended?). The quirky-cuteness of this had me giggling pretty much the whole time, and some of the silliness had me stopping to tell my partner about what was happening so someone else could laugh with me. There were some spicy scenes that felt a little out of place within the overall cheesiness of the plot, but overall I think this is a fun. fast rom-com to kick off fall with!

This is a fun and fluffy take on the vampire-human romance trope. I particularly enjoyed Frederick's text messages with Raymond; they read a lot like Daniel M. Lavery's Texts from Jane Eyre, and I could have read a whole book's worth of them. I wish the writing were less surface level--for example, I wanted to know more about the logistics of vampirism and Frederick's history--but the romance is cute, and I enjoyed witnessing Cassie's personal and professional growth.
