I thought this was going to be a bit more serious but it’s straight up a comedy which just doesn’t seem like the right genre for the heavy trauma the FMC went through. Also, her not going to school? I get not returning to the school where her attack happened but was her plan just to never go to school ever again?
This manga is definitely one which I would recommend to someone who is just starting to read shoujo mangas but, in all honesty, anyone can read this.I really really enjoyed the switch that the twins keep doing and how Himari is finding a place where she belongs. I am loving all the characters which we have really met so far through the manga and can’t wait to see what happens with the new character.
Thank you to NetGalley , the publishers and to the mangaka for an ARC for this cutesy manga!
I'm equal parts entertained and bothered by this book. The trauma in this books doesn't seem particularly 'dealt with' and the only solutions seem to be hiding away or doing a classic twin swap. This girl needed some therapy.
Other than that, it was amusing and the artwork was fantastic.
For Libraries: Suitable for YA collections.
This was a really cute manga about twin sisters, Mio and Himari. Himari goes through a traumatizing event and doesn't want to go back to school. But Mio can't just stand by and watch her sister's dreams die. So she asks Himari to go to school for her to try and get her out of the house. High jinks ensue.
This was a really great first volume for this manga. I'm intrigued enough to want to continue to read this series and see where the story goes.
This is a super cute manga with interesting characters and a fun plot line. It’s essentially a parent trap-esque plot which I knew I’d love and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Seeing how the twins each interacted differently with the other characters was a lot of fun and the way they both cared for each other was great. I’d definitely like to continue with the series!

Such an incredible manga! I loved the connection between the sisters, how they care for each other. I really enjoyed the ways Himari meets Mio friends, the contrast between their personalities, the interactions between her and the best friend of her sister's crush!! hahah I can't wait to read vol. 2
Thank you, Netgalley and author
It was... okay.
Very typical Shōjo manga... Not sure I like this whole "we can identity change because we are twins" when they CLEARLY have very different personalities and it's just not making any sense to me - same goes for the story, not sure where this is going and what the intention of this story is.
I'd read this to kill time if there's nothing else to do but wouldn't be my choice otherwise. Drawing style is at least bearable.
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley (thank you!), and this is my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Yen Press for a free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Mio and Himari Akeno are twins who attend different schools once they start high school. But after a traumatic event, Himari is unable to return to school and live the life she once did. Mio encourages Himari to take her place at school, and Himari slowly becomes more comfortable interacting with her peers again.
It feels like Himari's emotional state will be explored more in future volumes, but I do feel like they were brushed aside rather quickly in this first volume. Mio's eventually response and suggestion that Himari go to school in her place is fairly immature, but not necessarily out of character for her as a young high school girl who wants to do whatever she can to help her sister.
Character interactions are cute, and Kaname's art is lovely. I'm looking forward to the next volume to see how things progress.

First off thank you to #NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. Sunbeams in the Sky, is a cute graphic novel following twin sisters after one suffers from a traumatic event. Her sister encourages her by getting her to switch places with her and going to her school for a day. Follow her as she pretends to be her twin through high school and friend groups and adds her own twist to her sisters repertoire.
The story follows twin sisters Himari and Mio Akeno, who after spending every moment at each other’s sides have chosen to attend different high schools. When Himari turns down a confession from a classmate, he hires some goons to beat her up. This makes Himari scared to return to school or even leave her house, Mio convinces Himari to get to school as her for a day. As she pretends to be her sister at school, she meets a handsome boy Tsukiyono.
My main pet peeve with this first volume is that Himari's attack was put aside as nothing but a device to get her in a position where she could swap places with Mio. She goes through a traumatic event and it's never fully addressed. The art is nice enough but there isn't much to the storyline
This is a high school romance slice of life about a set of twins. One introvert one extrovert. When one twin is down on life the other steps up to ask her to take her place in school in order to get her sister out of her depression. Posing as her extrovert sister does not come so easy. This was cute. Your stereotypical high school romance manga. I’m very excited to see what happens next if they find out she is a twin. I can’t wait for the drama 👀
A fun reading, as usual, for these kind of manga. The topic of high school students are always an easy read, perfect for me-time. This time the heroines are a pair of twin girls, and somehow they can switch school. Each complements the other, and so far, both enjoyed the switch. Can't wait for the 2nd book!!
A solid manga to add to a HS collection. This one will fly off the shelves. I loved the twins trading place storyline. I wish the trauma of one twin was dealt with more in depth, but I'm guessing it will be dealt with in later volumes.
So, I read this volume with two individuals talking on either side of me about two different things. And I kid you not, that this manga kept me enticed through all that and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next volume!
This manga is about two identical twins who happen to attend two different schools. The older one, Himari ends up in a traumatic incident one day and starts spending her days at home. Her younger sister, Mio, can't see her sister's situations and gets a "cold" convincing Himari to take her place in school. As Himari grows her confidence to go back to school among Mio's friends, she slowly starts remembering herself and starts getting engaged in love.
I absolutely loved this manga! The artwork compliments this soft yet emotional shoujo manga. I loved how the writing is focused yet relays the emotions of the characters so clearly. Also I found that the position of the words were placed strategically because I knew exactly which words to read next and they didn't displace the character or scenes.
The plot of this manga seems simple but it carries a heavy undertone. Bullying caused by some rich kid leaving a traumatic scar is no joke and I hope it never happens to anyone. It's unfortunate that it happened to Himari but she has a supportive sister who is her pillar.
Himari and Mio's relationship is the absolute best! I'm so happy we didn't get the typical story where one dislikes or is "evil" but that's not to say it can't happen in later volumes; though I don't think so given their personalities. These two sisters are so supportive and caring of each other, it makes it all the more special and heartwarming to read.
This is a romance manga so we do have multiple love angles and triangles. It's a bit complex with the sisters switching places but I have a feeling it'll be okay. So far, no one is plotting anything and it's still smooth sailing as everyone tries to figure out their feelings. Tsukiyono is the most caring and genuine person, though sometimes I feel he's too good to be true. On the other hand, we haven't gotten much of Asaka but I trust Mio's judgment in him.
Overall, this volume was enjoyable. I loved the bond between the sisters, the friends who are unknowingly helping Himari and the beautiful artwork that accompanied this story. I will note that the mention of trauma and abuse does appear from time to time so if you're not good with that then this probably isn't a read for you. However, if you're looking for a character trying to overcome their past with supportive friends and a dash of romance, then this one is a must read.
Sunbeams in the sky Vol 1 kicks off what seems to be a beautifully illustrated story about overcoming trauma and the dynamic of identical twins attending different schools. When suddenly Himari, goes through something and ends up staying home instead of returning to school, and Mio suddenly asking Himari to step out of her comfort and attend for her.
I am already hooked on volume one! And can't wait to see what happens to Himari!
Thank you NetGalley and Yen Press for letting me read an ARC of Sunbeams in the Sky, Vol 1.
What a great first volume!
Himari takes her twin sisters place at her school after a traumatic incident at her own school, and ends up meeting a boy but things are complicated since she can't exactly be herself while pretending to be someone else.
It started off a little heavier than I expected but I liked seeing Himari start to enjoy going to school again. I really enjoyed the direction of the story and can't wait to see what happens next.
I'll for sure be checking out the next volume!
3.5
Heartwarming and a little stressful wondering what's going to happen with the twins. I enjoyed the story and can't wait for more.
This one is pretty cute like these type of manga generally are and it is really fun as well. The whole twins switching up places is a pretty cool concept.

It was pretty standard for romance novels though I would check the TW for this. I enjoyed the story and the art was pretty good.
Such an adorable first volume to start this series! Already looking forward to what will happen next !
