Tessa Miyata finds herself on an adventure of a lifetime when her summer in Japan takes a turn for the worst especially because she’s being haunted by a woman in a wolf mask, there’s a malicious samurai god out to get her... and she’s trapped in a hidden part of the city where gods and mythical creatures roam... can she save everyone and make it back home? Tess has never fit in, compared to her two older sister’s she’s just felt like she’s living in their shadows, it doesn’t help that everyone at school laughs at her and her best friend dumped her. Now that summer is here and she get to stay with her grandparents in Tokyo with her sisters and she can’t wait... the only problem is that before going she is visited by the same mysterious woman in a fox mask with a wolf who is telling her she has to be warned about a fortune..... and now when a family heirloom is broken, thus releasing a evil samurai god who wants revenge its up to Tessa and the neighborhood kid Jin Uehara to work together along with a nine-tailed fox to stop the samurai! This was a pretty fun middle grade story perfect for readers who enjoy a book about adventure and quests. It’s great for fans of the Zachary Zing series, mixing mythology, action, and friendship!

Filled with enchanting folklore, Abe crafts a story that once again proves she is a master of Gibli-esque tales. Fans of Abe previous Eva Evergreen books will adore this new series as well. Highly recommended.
I requested a digital copy in order to sample the prose on my phone (since I don't have a eReader) before requesting a physical copy for review. My review will be based on the physical ARC I read (if I qualify)
