I would like to thank NetGalley for this ARC, and want to make clear all opinions remain my own.
I loved Glory and Killian's story. I felt for them, and really loved the writing.
I loved that if felt like a slow burn, and the payoff was so worth it. I couldnt recommend this book more honestly.
I wish we'd also had Killian's perspective. This book was so very good I couldnt recommend it more.
arc provided by Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
i don’t want to be too harsh on this book cause i can see the potential is there. with a little polishing and tweaking i would be very excited to see what this author does next.
some highlights of the book includes: the side characters all felt fresh and fun and stood on their own outside simply being devices for the main couple.
killian and glory had very good chemistry but it was a little uncomfortable remembering i was reading about high schoolers. i really loved how the best friends to enemies trope was done.
criticisms: i think glory fell for Killian too quickly for someone who was so hostile to her for four years. their relationship should’ve been much more of a slow burn to keep tension and the reader intrigued there was some editing issues that could be sorted out, plot points that seemed important never get mentioned again. and repetition was a big frustration for me.
over all this book surprised me and excites me to see where the author grows from here.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved that Glory was strong, driven, and resolute, and I loved how fiercely loyal her best friend, Cassidy was. This book was well-written and the characters were fantastic, but I do feel like Glory forgave Killian too easily, and while I do understand why the third-act breakup happened, I don't think it was really necessary for the storyline. All in all I truly did like this book and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a second one :)
I have mixed emotions about Hard Feelings. It is a New Adult Romance that follows Glory and Killian’s relationship after experiencing a scandal that rocks their whole town.
I really loved Glory’s character - she was strong, driven, and determined to meet her goals while staying true to herself. I can’t say that I loved Killian, though.
In the beginning of the novel, Glory and Killian are ex-best friends and Glory is bullied because of it. Killian doesn’t do anything to stop the bullying, even though later he claims he hated anyone saying anything bad about Glory. It was like his character went from one extreme to the next and I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Glory forgave Killian way too easily in my opinion, which caused the whole novel to be disrupted for me.
One of the main focuses of the story is healing from trauma, but I felt like a lot of the trauma was brushed under the rug when it came to Glory and Killian. I wish this would’ve been fleshed out a little more.
In the end, I would pick up a second book in this series if it follows Glory’s best friend, Cassidy. I LOVED Cassidy’s character and she was honestly my favorite part of the book.
This is definitely the type of book you have to pick up and give a chance yourself. I feel like lots of people will love Glory and Killian’s story, but for me it’s only 3 stars.
I am not usually a fan of books in a high school setting, but Galvin did a great job adapting the characters and their emotions (often immaturity) to align with their age and how many of us would have handled similar situations. It was easy to understand and relate to Glory, and I struggled to put this book down because I wasn't sure how things were going to play out. I do wish we had a dual POV and not just bits of Killian's perspective from his journal entries as I think that would have helped to fill some space in the book that moved too slowly or was repetitive. Overall, a great read with characters I absolutely fell in love with.
Overall, I thought this was a really cute and lighthearted romance. I loved that the two main characters were childhood and I enjoyed following their story. However, I felt the writing was slightly too Young Adult feeling at times. I also didn't expect this book to be about teenagers because it was labeled as Adult Fiction.
Glory has had it tough at high school. Her mum ran off with her long time best friend's dad. Glory's days are full of scandal and bullying. Really, she can't wait to leave. Especially, since her best friend is now her biggest enemy. Glory just wants to focus on soccer and go to UCLA.
Killian will never forgive his dad for running off with Glory's mum. However, when he realises what a mess he has made of his friendship with Glory, he tries to redeem himself. Killian is running out of time. Glory is off to UCLA and he is staying at UGA, right?
Will Glory forgive Killian? What happens when Glory's mum turns up unexpectedly? Who will make the playoffs and who will go to prom? Most importantly will Killian be able to stay on the other side of the country from Glory?
I loved this story! There are massive feelings and angst in this book. I felt so sorry for Glory, but also her mother (a bit, anyway). I feel that the trauma and recovery was well written and fit really well in the book. Great spice too!
Hard feelings is titled just right. This story had so much emotion, heart and reality. The writing was beautiful and strong. I truly enjoyed reading the story and following these characters journeys from start to finish. The familial dynamic was unique and a harsh reality of what true tumultuous relationships can be, while still having a lot of love and heart at the center. The found family with Cassidy, Tanner and Elizabeth was beautiful.
Now, as beautiful as this story was, I felt a little confused as to where to rate this book because of the heavier sexual situations present in this book. I couldn’t determine if this was a young adult or adult romance. With these characters being in high school, I found a lot of the sexual story-telling to be unnecessary. While those situations were written extremely well, I felt they didn’t add much to the plot and were not appropriate for the possible audience reading this novel.
The story line was strong, but there were a few times where it veered off and didn’t make it back on the track.
For those two reasons, I would rate this novel a 3.75 or 4.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC and giving me the opportunity to explore this authors work.
Adored this book so much. Thought it’d be a 5⭐️ read but the unnecessary plot at the end of the book ruined it so it’s a 4/5⭐️ from me which is still considered as good!!
The writing style of the author was very easy to follow through. It flows nicely and in general, it’s amazing. The author created such good dynamics be it in their friend group, or family relationships like Glory’s relationship with her dad etcetera.
I love how this book really emphasised on healing— especially from Glory’s perspective of trying to forgive her mom for what she did. I wished there could’ve been more from Killian’s perspective and his healing journey with his dad though.
Glory and Cassy’s relationship is so fun to read about. Their friendship is your typical besties dynamic, and I love every inch of it. They’re so fun, so bubbly, and energetic, and I could feel the love they radiate for each other. I wish there could be more Cassy x Tanner because their twin dynamic seemed so fun and interesting.
Killian is a simp for Glory it’s so funny lol. He’s head over heels in love and he doesn’t even try to hide it. I kinda didn’t like how abruptly he changed from “hating” Glory to suddenly wanting to be her friend again, but the shift in it got easier to understand because Glory didn’t immediately cave into Killian’s apologies (as she should). I’d appreciate it if there were more groveling scenes but this book serves good enough of it so that’s more than okay.
Many tropes I loved— second chance, small town, etcetera, and the author managed to portray them very well. Bravo 👏
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC! I love a good friends to enemies to lovers small town sports romance as much as the next person, and this is no exception. I enjoyed the focus on forgiveness , and the twins were such great friends to have! What docked a star for me was the characters ages when this is classified as New Adult. Killian and Glory are in their senior year of high school for the majority of the book which was a little ick reading some graphic scenes but did explain some more immature decisions. College age would be better. When Hard Feelings started with high school I assumed it would be a dual timeline like Love & Other Words but no such luck. All in all a good read, 3.5 stars
This book didn't wow me. It felt like a lot of other sweet romances that have been coming out recently and if you like those then you will enjoy this. There is nothing incredible to write home about.
hank you Netgalley for providing an arc in return for an honest opinion/rating.
I normally eat Friends to Lovers up but I struggled alot with this. The concept of this book is great however it felt dragged out and very confusing.
This is also an adult book with characters aged 17. To me this feels wrong. If your characters are in adult scenes they need to be aged 18+.

TW: anxiety/panic attacks, family drama, and abandonment issues
I loved Glory and Killian. Killian is a football player and big softy who takes care of all those he loves. Glory is a soccer player and tough girl with a lot on her plate and trauma she tries to push down. They were the best of friends, then the worst of enemies, after a scandal that turned their lives upside down, and they were left to pick up the remaining pieces without each other. Cassidy and her twin brother Tanner were the funniest and most supporting side characters. Cassidy always told it like it was and had undying support for Glory. Tanner was a big goofball and had unwavering loyalty to his friends and sister. I enjoyed the flow and writing style. It was an easy read but did have some serious components. I docked a star off because I felt like parts in the book were too sped up, and it didn’t feel like they had a satisfying resolve, and I felt like Glory was too forgiving.
Synopsis
As best friends, Glory and Killian had loved each other in one way or another since they were kids. When they got older, that love began to evolve into something deeper.
But then a scandal overtook their town, changing their relationship status from best friends to enemies.
Killian is all sunshine and golden-boy vibes while Glory is quiet and focused on soccer, tortured by small-town gossip.
As the end of their senior year approaches, Glory plans to move across the country, leaving behind everyone who has hurt her, including Killian. When he decides enough is enough and tries to make amends, Glory chooses to take the leap, trusting him to catch her, transforming their relationship for a second time.
Until Killian and Glory are forced to confront what tore them apart in the first place.
Can they ever go back to the way they were, or can they maybe become something else, something more?
Make sure to check this book out on March 7th!!
I really enjoyed this book. It sucked me so quickly and I could not put it down. Both characters were completely understandable with why they were acting the way they were. The reasons why the two characters friendship ended in the first place before it could turn into something was something that didn't seem so far fetched. I honestly felt like there could have been more of the MMC trying to win the FMC's forgiveness and friendship back. Overall not a bad book.
i’ve been in a reading slump and finished this in two days so i thoughoutly enjoyed it. i wouldn’t say it was anything revolutionary but it was an enjoyable read. Well written, good plot line, likeable characters (sometimes Killian gave me the ick though not going to lie.) & some really great life lessons especially forgiveness. It reads like a YA coming of age but it has spice which i feel a weird about, i’m not a huge fan of spice in highschool based books.
Killian and Glory grew up as childhood bestfriends. Unfortunately, Glory’s mother and Killians father had an affair that left their children in the crossfire. Especially in their small hometown. Killian and Glory stopped speaking and resented one another. Glory taking the brunt of the crossfire due to Killian’s literal assholeness. Their senior year was approaching quickly and while Glory was ready to move far from the town and Killian, Killian was desperate to rekindle their relationship.
Killian gives Glory this journal which goes over some of his thoughts while they were apart. Which she refused to read which was so frustrating. When she finally does finish the journal (post third act breakup) i STILL don’t really understand why Killian acted like that towards her? i don’t know i wanted so much more out of that journal. It had so much protential.
I absolutely loved Cass. What an amazing, supportive best friend. Everyone deserves a Cass in their life. I actually really loved all of the side characters- Tanner, Marcus, Janika.
So Killian’s dad and Glory’s mom had an affair. & seemingly it was a serious affair as they stayed together and had a whole ass child together. So their parents are together, and they’re together, and they also have a sibiling now. I don’t know, is it weird? it feels weird? i can’t decide how i feel about it.
Overall, i enjoyed the book. It’s a quick read, it’s enjoyable. It’s got some tear jerking moments. Some people dislike Glory for being immature but she is a kid. I would recommend.
Thank you Net Galley and K.M. Gavin for the eARC!!
Glory and Killian grew up together. They were inseparable. Until they weren't...
When a scandal involving their parents hits their small town, wealthy and connected Killian takes out his anger on poor, shunned Glory. He's made her last 3 years in high school a living hell, and she can't wait to graduate and escape to California where she'll continue working toward her goal of playing soccer professionally. But then Killian has a change of heart. He misses his best friend, and he wants her back. Will they reconcile, or will their family issues win out in the end?
I loved this one. So emotional and angsty, a perfect New Adult romance. I cared so much about the characters, about how they would deal with the problems they faced, that I stayed up way too late reading so I could find out how it ended.
I felt so strongly about the characters and about their family situation. I know everyone approaches books with their own worldview coloring their opinions, and so things about their families rang true as they compared to my own. I appreciated the mention of therapy, and that several of the characters talked about going to talk to someone on a regular basis. As someone who sees a therapist, I definitely agree that it plays an important role in healing, coping, and moving forward. One thing I've learned, and they do as well, is that decisions affect everyone, not just the people making them. Killian and Glory spend a lot of time dealing with the fallout of their parents' decisions.
There are several spicy bits. Sometimes in NA books I feel that the spice is sort of ridiculous and overdone, but this one felt very reasonable. They are both so busy with school, their respective athletics, and preparing for college, that they had to sneak in the moments wherever they could.
The side characters are wonderful, too, from the other parents to the best friends to the teammates. The cast of characters was a sensible size, a good ensemble, but not so many that you get confused or lose track.
I would read this again, and will likely recommend it to my daughters when they get older.
There was one quote I wrote down because it really resonated with me: 'She loves me the best way she knows how, and that's not what I needed back then, but maybe it's enough now.'
p.s. I loved the cover on this one! Pretty sure it will be joining my physical book collection so I can enjoy the prettiness whenever I like :)
This was adorable. Killian was so in love with Glory and it was so cute to see. He is such a good boyfriend and I wanted to see them go on more dates. I understand why the breakup happened but I don't necessarily think the book needed it.
I received an arc through netgalley.
Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC!
First off the cover is beautiful! That was what originally drew me in.
This story had potential, but I did struggle with connecting with the characters. It wasn't my typical read, however I wanted to give it chance. I could see where many people would enjoy it, but it just wasn't for me. It is very descriptive, which to some is great, but for me it slowed the pacing.
I tried to finish it, but I did end up DNF.
I have mixed feelings about this one - there were parts that made me smile and I forgot they were high schoolers (which is good because I don't usually like reading about high school romances) and didn't want to stop reading... then there were other times that I found Glory absolutely ridiculous and was reminded that they were immature high schoolers. Sometimes Glory was too "victimized," and she took the blame too much for everything.
I think part of the problem I had with this book was the organization; the ideas were there and I loved how much Killian loved Glory, but the execution wasn't quite there for me. They were best friends before high school, but after nearly 4 years of hostility, I didn't really understand why Glory fell for him so quickly and where their relationship was going (though my favorite part of the book was when they were together at the beginning and I think that's just because I'm a sucker for cute romance). I also wish we got a little more to Killian's journal; I would have loved more entries and I think it would have been a good way to understand their relationship at the beginning of high school. The side characters and side plots were well-done though!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
The author has a beautiful writing style and paints a great pictures. I really wanted to like this book but the drama between the main characters was so childish and immature. This book wasn’t for me and I didn’t finish it.
