this was . . . alright? i don’t have a whole lot to say, as i am by no means an expert on the historical period that it is set in, but there was something that kept preventing me from fully engaging with it — although i can hardly blame the author, because it must be awfully hard to recreate a world and a cosmology as different as our own, and i have recently found out that there are virtually no novels out there that manage to fully convey the ambience of pre-medieval times in great britain, no matter how hard they try. i did like olwen as a character (she was assertive and brave, but not in the not-like-the-other-girls kind of way), and i thought the spartacus-esque angle was pretty nice, so yes. i’d definitely recommend this to those who are into novels set in this historical period, and i am looking forward to reading reviews from people who are more informed on the subject.
