I love the series from Fitzek. Thrillers with unexpected twist and a certain class to them. This book was no exception. Thrilling, well written and with a plot that captivated me and made me stay up way longer that I should.
An addictive and creepy read, this book had me feeling all the feels. Deeper than your typical psychologial thriller and eye opening to the issues in this world today.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
Walk Me Home by Sebastian Fitzek is a thrilling and nerve-wracking novel that follows Jules Tannberg, a volunteer at a ‘walk me home’ telephone service that helps lone women get home safely at night. Jules has never faced a real danger until he receives a call from Klara, a young woman who is being stalked by a man who knows the date of her death. And that date is tonight. The book is masterfully written, with a fast-paced and tense plot that switches between different characters, times, and locations. The author also delves into the psychological aspects of fear, guilt, and revenge, and makes the reader question their own morality and choices. The book is full of unexpected twists and shocking revelations that will leave you breathless. Walk Me Home is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers, and a stunning example of Fitzek’s talent.
Well, as usual Sebastian Fitzek did not disappoint. This was a disturbing story that comes with a trigger warning of domestic abuse.
It was written well, with many unseen twists and turns and was pretty messed up. However it tied up all the loose ends well and ended up alright in the end.
Well written and typical for this author but the descriptions are dark certainly trigger warnings for this one.
The plot unravels with an interesting twist at the end and the action taking place is mainly in the form of phone calls which makes it a little different
This book has twists upon turns, and several times I found myself questioning what I thought I knew. I actually found myself surprised by the big reveal and I loved that about this story. There were some parts that didn't move along as quickly as I would have liked, and several actions by the characters that didn't seem like a logical response to their situations; however, these did not affect the plot or dull my enjoyment of this book terribly. I feel this was a pretty great first read for 2024.
If you like psychological thrillers, you must read this book. It’s a thrilling page turner that keeps you on your toes till the end. Suffice to say the author led me one way and then did a switch back. A few times. As secrets and lies all started to unravel. Layers that were slowly building up started to fall away leaving the whole and very brutally shocking truth laid bare. It is quite a disturbing book and there are lots of twists and turns and quite confusing - most of the story takes place on phone calls.
I was exhausted when I finished. Satisfied but exhausted.
Dark and twisty this book was chilling all the way through. It was creepy and haunting and some parts were really uncomfortable to read but I was too invested and tbh I like dark reads.
It feels weird to say I enjoyed it but I enjoyed it.
I couldn't finished it. It was too dark and although I didn't suffer the warning, It was too hard to read.
I love the unpredictable and thats how this author writes. You never know whats going to happen. I loved the short chapters. Set in Germany it was refreshing to read in a different setting.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I found this one tough to follow and the violence was a lot to deal with. Great twist though!
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for this review copy
This was a dark and twisty thriller that kept me guessing until the end
Walk me home is another dark tense twisting thriller from this excellent story teller. I have to admit I was totally enthralled with this book , often imagining it on film and as usual with Fitzek, I did not see the last twist at the end
Remarkable, thrilling, while quite disturbing, this book takes it to the edge
A must read
I started this and the story seemed interesting at first, but then the description of Kara’s husband turned me right off the book and could t go on.
This writing style is one that I was not familiar with but once I got the hang of it it was very intriguing. The plot makes you question what is real and what is jot. With all the twists and turns this is a book unlike any other you will read.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I love a suspenseful book that keeps me on the edge of my seat. And I read a lot of thrillers so I can handle some dark themes. But wow, this is a very dark one with some very grim and challenging descriptions. It was well written with a good premise in the helpline companion service but just crossed a line on the darkness for me and I think a lot of readers would find it too much…
A huge thank you to Netgalley and Aria & Aries for giving me a chance to read Walk Me Home by Sebastian Fitzek in exchange for an honest review,
First things first, let's start off with the trigger warnings : domestic abuse, mentions of rape/non-consual sex, sexual assault, graphic violence, child death, suicide
This book is clearly for mature readers and it is not to be taken lightly.
Fitzek's really raising the stakes with a book heavily impacted with one of the "unseen" problems of society yet never straying from his own unique writing style and character driven plot. A psychological thriller to add to your list if you want something to kick up your heart rates and make your head buzz with the countless possible senarios that bring light to such a dark and twisted story.
The most notorious aspect of Fitzek's writing -the unreliable narrator prose- has the reader anxiously trying to decipher what is truth and what is lie, what is really happening and what belongs in the past, who is the victim and who is the killer.
Halfway through the book, the story kicks in with plot twists in every chapter that keep the reader full of suspense and vigilance trying to guess what is going to happen next.
As a dedicated Sebastian Fitzek reader, Walk Me Home definetely skyrocketed to the top of his works for me, dethroning Therapy from its first place .
I was interested in this because I recall reading a previous book by this author some time ago, for my book club, and I enjoyed it.
There were some dark themes in this book, and some very intense imagery. This made it difficult, even upsetting to read, in some ways. Having said that, due to the intensity, it was difficult not to become emotionally involved. I cared about what happened to the characters, and I think other readers will too.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free copy to review.
This was an interesting book for me! I was confused, surprised and shocked. At the end of the story everything came together well but throughout it was a bit tough. As I was looking up the book I found that that is done on purpose and what the author is known for. While I don't think this author is for me, it was an enjoyable story and I can see how it is loved. It kept me on my toes and I am glad I tried something new!
Sebastian Fitzek’s books always leave me either amazed or disappointed and this was one of the latter. It’s very dark with difficult subject matter that he never shies away from but the timescale being so constricted didn’t work for me. The reveals came thick and fast and felt unbelievable.
I will always read one of Fitzek’s books though as there are some brilliant reads I wouldn’t want to miss.
