This was a wonderful book and I enjoyed getting to know the characters through the author. This opened up a door of true crime and romance that I didn’t even know existed. All in all a wonderful release.
I really enjoyed the plot of this book. The psychic connection between the characters was a really interesting element. It was an enjoyable read and O moved through it quickly. A great dark romantic suspense!
The first thing about Dangerous Dreams that caught my eye was the cover - it was beautiful and unique and I just had to know what the book was going to be about. I was a total goner once I read the synopsis because I love anything paranormal-y, thriller-y, and mystery-y and this book had all three! I couldn't wait to read Dangerous Dreams and it was so amazing.
Isleen is made of steel, she's unbelievably strong and brave and a fighter through and through. And yeah, she might have made me want to shake her a few times, but I completely respected and loved her for the most part. Isleen is sweet and gentle and soft even with her hard core. She's beautiful, wonderful, and special beyond belief.
As Xander and everyone else will you tell you - he's a turkey. He has his growly, surly moments and his I-can't-believe-he-said/did-that moments, and times where you want to smack him upside the head, but he's much more than all that. Xander, to me, is a little bit like one of those heroes with the tortured soul that you just want to hold and squeeze and love. He might be hard on the outside, but he's so sweet and heart melty on the inside. It wasn't hard to fall for Xander - not at all - I absolutely loved that man, he's definitely a keeper.
Dangerous Dreams is a heart pounding, blood pumping read full of twists and turns, betrayal, secrets, mystery and magic. It broke my heart, made me want to cry, made me gasp, and warmed my heart. It sucked me in, kept me on the edge of my seat and flipping the pages as fast as I could, desperate for answers and to see what was coming next. It was beautiful, mystical, powerful, and incredible. I completely love this book and I can't wait to read the next one in the series!
Dangerous Dreams is the first book in the Beautiful Nightmare series, it's told from multiple points of view, and Isleen and Xander get there well-deserved, well-fought for happily-ever-after!

Dangerous Dreams is an intense, dark story about kidnapping, torture and two people with special powers who find love. Zander grabbed my attention almost immediately with his backstory which resulted in his being able to hear people’s thoughts and his sarcastic attitude toward people in general. Isleen and her grandmother’s captivity was heartbreaking and a little confusing at first but once I was able to put everything in perspective, I found myself encouraging Zander in his rescue and loving care for Isleen.
Abbie Roads has a wonderful way with words in her descriptions and the emotions of her characters. Her pacing and non-stop incidents made it one of those stories you don’t want to put down. Just when you think you had things figured out, you find yourself blindsided from the least expected angle.
She is another go-to author and I look forward to reading the second in this series.
excellent book! i could not put it down!!
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the review copy.
This story could get very dark and intense. It was a well written book with an excellent story line. I know many people are not into the story of a man saving a woman these days but I'll admit it is one of my favorite. I enjoyed Isleen and Xander. Their story was twisty and turning and full of emotion. I loved their bond and how you know that this bond would last until the end of time. As their relationship grows, so does danger and intrigue. It was a great read and I will definitely read more by this author.
This story was calling me to read it. It is dark, intense, paranormal, and gripping. When I started, it was impossible to leave it because I simply had to see what will happen next. The characters were very well written, you had to like or hate them for what they did. We have two heroes here, both with special abilities, Xander got it as a result of a thunderstrike, and Isleen has visions of the present and future. He works with the police force and helps them in investigating and especially interviewing suspects that don't want to cooperate. Somehow, Xander listen to her words, and something pulled him to go to the remote place where Isleen and her grandmother were held and tortured for eight years. What will happen next, and why people want to kill Isleen, kept me guessing and kept me turning the pages until I finished the book. This is my first book by Abbie Roads and it won't be my last.
Dangerous Dreams is a mix of a dark romance with a paranormal on the side. The story starts of quickly which will pull readers into the story. The main lead characters are intriguing with the childhood lightening stike than gives him a curse add to the main lead characters charm?
The story moves quickly and at times readers have to suspend reality. Lets face it we all need to leave reality.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of Dangerous Dreams.
Of course I loved this book...how could I not when Abbie Roads is the author!
This is a story that I couldn't put down, that kept me up at night, that had me drinking a full pot of coffee the next morning because I did not go to sleep until the book was done.
I want more and can't wait to read more in the series!
I'm sorry this book was really hard to get into.
I don't shy away from dark romances or weird scenarios but this one didn't hold any interest. I almost DNF a couple times but I do believe in giving feedback so I pushed on.
There's a lot going on, we've got a detective with a bit of a paranormal aspect going on and a thrilling romance.
My main issue is I didn't enjoy the MC's, I thought they came off annoying and when you are dealing with heavy topics the last thing you should feel is annoyed.
The romance was over the top and very fast which was unbelievable given the heavy subject surrounding the book.
Unfortunately this book wasn't for me but I can see how someone else would enjoy this one.
If you enjoy dark thrilling romances with a touch of paranormal and a shady cult then pick this one up.
Thank you Netgalley, Abbie Roads and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
A big thank you to NetGalley and the author for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, but reads well as a stand alone. This is Xander and Isleen's story. Sort of overwhelming at first. I liked Xander and felt terrible for Isleen. Paranormal is normal in this story?? The epilogue is the seque into the next book and has no real connection to this book-which I found odd. 3 stars
This book was weird to me. I liked it, but it was pretty weird. The smut was spectacular, but toned down (which isn't bad.) I love me a good detective book and an unconventional story, but it was just.... so out there.
I'm glad I finished it, because I was pretty close to DNFing it. I will likely read the next one because the story was pretty interesting and I'm hoping that I will get on board with it more because I've already read the first one.
I was given an advanced review copy with the expectation of an unbiased review, which I am giving voluntarily.
Thank you netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for allowing me to read this book. DNF at 30%. This book was confusing and didn’t pull me in. It was dark and I just couldn’t get into the story at all or connect with the characters.
I wasn’t sure what to think of this book when I started it. It’s dark with some paranormal elements so not my usual choice of genre. I honestly almost DNF after a few chapters, but decided to stick with it and I’m so glad I did.
The story will grab ahold of you and not let go. You’ll want to see what happens. You’ll become invested in the characters.
Such a great read and I’m very excited for the next one.
3.75stars--DANGEROUS DREAMS is the first instalment in Abbie Roads’ contemporary, adult BEAUTIFUL NIGHTMARE paranormal, erotic, romantic thriller series-formerly the FATAL DREAMS series. This is special skills consultant for the Ohio BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigations) Alexander ‘Xander’ Stone, and twenty-five year old Isleen Walker’s story line. DANGEROUS DREAMS is a re-release of the author’s RACE THE DARKNESS (Fatal Dreams Series 1)- new title, new series title, new covers.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including graphic violence, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from third person perspective DANGEROUS DREAMS follows in the wake of the discovery of twenty-five year old Isleen Walker and her grandmother Gale, Gale who has been missing for over twenty five years. Xander Stone is an investigator for the Ohio BCI, with supersensitive hearing, and the ability to hear thoughts since he was struck by lightning at an earlier age but Xander struggles with the echoes of a woman’s voice, crying for help, a woman who is closer than he could have ever imagined. Isleen Walker and her grandmother Gale have been imprisoned by a monster for close to eight years, a monster who is slowly starving and bleeding Isleen and her grandmother to death. Isleen and her grandmother have ‘supernatural dreams’ wherein they are witness to what is happening or what may happen in the future, and for this Isleen is being punished by an unknown source. Her rescue by Xander, and her subsequent dreams continue to reveal the death of others, lives she struggles to save in the wake of the monster lurking behind the scenes. As our couple begin to build upon their mutual attraction, secrets reveal a past connection, as Xander and Isleen are targeted by the man in charge. What ensues is the search and rescue of Isleen and Gale; the building romance and relationship between Xander and Isleen; and the fall-out as the monster returns to finish the job he started years before.
The relationship between Isleen and Xander begins as a rescue. Isleen has been ‘dreaming’ about Xander, and Xander knows that if the woman in his mind isn’t found soon, she will not last through her terrible nightmare. Xander is immediately drawn to Isleen as she soothes the pain in his head, a pain that comes when the voices begin anew. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Xander’s father Alex, his uncle Matt, and their housekeeper Rowena; Detective Kent, and his sister Camille, as well as Isleen’s grandmother Gale, and a cameo appearance by FBI consultant Lathan Montgomery. The requisite evil has many faces. Lathan’s story is next.
DANGEROUS DREAMS is the re-release of the author’s Race the Darkness, the introductory story line focusing on a group of supernatural law enforcement who take the cases no one else is able to solve. The premise is intense and gritty; the characters are broken yet strong; the romance is insta-lust to love, intimate and destined.

This book was fine and written well, it just wasn’t my cup of tea
*I was given a free copy from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
What. Did. I. Just. Read? ⬅️ My closing thoughts on this book. 😳 This wasn’t a typical detective book like I originally thought, it’s so much more! Xander was struck by lightening; his scars form from his forehead all the way down his body and although most people are repulsed by his appearance, he has acquired abilities from the incident. Abilities that have helped the FBI in retaining information from hard to crack suspects.
When Xander hears a cry for help inside his mind, his body races to the beautiful voice. When he reaches Isleen, he realizes that she’s everything he never thought he needed. When he’s with her, she sees past his scars and they’re able to heal one another by simply loving each other.
Danger loomes when Xander is torn from Isleen and it’s up to him, his brilliant mind, and their attraction to one another to save her before it’s too late.
I’m not giving too much away on this book. I haven’t even dipped into the cult, Isleen abilities, or the reason why Isleen is in terrible danger. You’ll have to read it on your own.
Gosh! I want so much more of this story! When the paranormal aspect was introduced, I was afraid that it would scare me away but I loved everything about Xander and Isleen. I’m still stunned by the unique storyline that intertwined them. Tears were shed while reading this book and I can’t wait for more.
Broken Dreams is book 2 in the Beautiful Nightmare series and I NEED to read it! Where can I acquire it?
Dangerous Dreams by Abbie Roads.
Isleen and her Grandmother were kidnapped and tortured for years under the care of monstrously delusional Queenie. They endured for each other. All the while, Isleen is able to sometimes escape her reality for that of a dream reality.
Xander is adrift in the world. His mother hasn't been in the picture for a long time and his father dropped out after the loss of his wife, Xander's stepmother. To make matters worse, he survived getting struck by lightening... with some interesting and painful side effects.
Isleen and Xander's paths cross in this explosive, unique, page-turning story. Every time I thought I knew how things would go, the plot twisted. Great book and fabulous setup for a sequel.

The use of a potential scientific concept such as Auditory Perception Syndrome intrigued me from the very start of the book. I assumed it to be a romance with a fair amount of suspense. There was a certain amount of sexual content portrayed that is usually off-putting for me as a reader. But this didn't read as a sex manual. This had more of a way of relating to the feelings of the main characters and not the mechanics, thus making it an easier read for me.
The way the author downplayed the main character's physical deformity and how it came about was such an interesting concept it made fascinating reading as she used it to highlight intense feelings between two lovers.
A cult, a kidnapping, and an investigator with a penchant for getting to the heart of a crime, all made for a truly delightful read. I look forward to continuing this series.
20% in and I didn't feel myself enjoying the story it was definitely not for me it just felt all over the place and the characters were being more annoying which made me lose interest on their romance and storyline.
