A gritty romantic thriller filled with tumultuous danger and a sigh worthy love.
A weird and murderous cult that believes "there shall be none among you who practice occultism, no seers or spell casters, nor any who use prediction, prognostication, or prophecy. Whoever commits these acts is an abomination to the Lord. And the Faithful shall drive out the demons to become righteous in the eyes of the Lord.”
A kidnapped woman and a man with a painful gift that will not stop for anything to protect her.
Special Skills Consultant Xander Stone has the painful gift that allows him to solve crimes.
When he saves kidnapped Isleen his found peace from his pain and possibly love.
Though will the danger be the end for one of them.
I received an ARC for a honest review.

I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley. I had read this book many years ago under the Race the Darkness title and it was worth the second read. It does have violence, sex, and killing which may be triggers for some.

The story was sometimes dark but the characters draw you in. Xander is a man tortured by a voice of a woman he doesn’t know but hears in his dreams. He can hear voices and thoughts which is painful for him and he tries to drown it out..

Isleen is a woman who is in hell and only her dreams of a man gives her hope of being saved.

They come together in a story full of twists and turn that keep you guessing until the end!

Dangerous Dreams by Abbie Roads is the First book in the Beautiful Nightmare Series. This is the story of Xander Stone and Isleen Walker. Isleen has been held hostage for several years. Which has left her with just skin and bones along with no hope. But then Xander comes in and saves her. Xander didn't have a good childhood but major factor in that life was getting struck by lighting. This has left Xander with a physical scar but also with the ability to have more hearing ability. Xander uses this at his job at the Department of Criminal Investigation. But it has been a mental burden for him too. Xander has struggled with hearing a women voice cry for help which is how he ends up helping Isleen and it starts their story. Enjoyed.

Dangerous Dreams is a rerelease of a previous Abbie Roads book, Race the Darkness. I didn't know that when I picked it up initially, but I kept thinking "wow, this is just like another book of hers..." and I was right! I did really enjoy Race the Darkness. I don't know that anything has really been changed-it has been a while since I read it.

The story has a dark vibe, both in its content and its tone. There is also a bit of paranormal since Xander gets his powers after being struck by lightning. Isleen is in a horrible situation and she dreams of Xander. Once he rescues her, they are determined to stick together. But, since nothing in their life has been easy, life after being rescued isn't easy either. There is plenty of nail biting suspense in this one. Readers who aren't afraid of some darker themes (thrillers) but still want romance will enjoy Dangerous Dream.

I unfortunately had to dnf this book at 20%. I found it too dark for me, and didn’t enjoy the fantasy elements. I think this book could be perfect for others that enjoy this type of book though!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy. This book is a dark romance thriller. The main character is struck by lightning when he is young and has a new abililty. He helps solve cases. But does he fall in love with the wrong woman? Only time will tell.

I will say that this author’s unique name was the main reason for me requesting it.. I skimmed the synopsis and thought it sounded interesting and intriguing. There were some parts of this book that were not for me. Following the story to see where it went added a good dose of suspense but overall it was just ok for me.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Xpresso Book Tours for providing me an ARC of this book for my honest review.

I am struggling with how to rate this book. I did enjoy some parts of the story, but it was hard to follow at times and a bit fragmented. The paranormal aspect to the story is what kept me reading. Xander was not likeable character, and I loathed how he called Isleen “baby” from the beginning. It was just cringy to me. I almost DNF this but kept going because I wanted to find out what happened. I think that this will be for the right audience, but just not for me. For me it is a 3 rounded down 2.5 star, as parts were good, and this may be an enjoyable read to the right group of readers.

Dangerous Dreams by Abbie Roads opens with a bang that will grab your attention and not let go until the final page. Xander is a hot commodity for the BCI, even if he feels a little like a sideshow. Xander can hear internal thoughts, so when a confession is what they need, Xander is the man for the job.

It's the other voice he hears in his head that makes him think the lightning strike scrambled more than just one part of his brain. She's never quiet, always begging him to save her. From what and from where he doesn't know, so he drowns her out with booze and bad decisions. Until he can't.

Isleen knows pain. She's lived in it for the last seven years with her only hope being an intangible connection with a man she's never met. The idea gives her hope and makes her feel hopeless at the same time. Her days are numbered, and if he doesn't find her soon, that connection will be severed, and no one will know her story.

I'm gonna be real with you. Xander is a jerk, but he's a likable jerk despite his gruff demeanor and standoffish attitude. If I got struck by lightning and suddenly could hear someone's internal organs working, I might be a bit standoffish too. Put him in a room with Isleen, though, and everything about Xander changes. She calms him, centers him, and gives him a break from the incessant noise. He can heal her. They need each other and together is the only way forward.

It could have been that easy; boy finds girl, girl heals, happily the end. But Ms. Roads was not happy until she ran Xander and Isleen through a meatgrinder of emotions until the reader was nothing but boneless pulp when they reached the electrifying ending. Was that dramatic? Probably, but also not untrue. Xander and Isleen have to work for their happily ever after, and if they get one, will it look like the HEA we're used to?

The sign of a talented author is when they can write characters you hate with so much passion you want to throat punch them, characters you love to hate and beg and plead for them to find the redemption they deserve even if they don't think they do, and characters you want to wrap in a warm blanket and protect forever, all in the same book. Ms. Roads has those skills and more.

If you are a paranormal romance fan, then you can't miss this riveting tale of family secrets, extrasensory abilities, predictive dreams, and a hero and heroine with so much heart it emanates from the page.

Ms. Roads is a master in her genre, and Dangerous Dreams is not to be missed!

Wow!!! An amazingly dark and intense ride. Xander and Isleen's story gave me chills and I just loved the connection that these two have. Addicting, edge of your seat suspense kept me up all night reading. I loved every second of this and highly recommend!

I was very close to DNF'ing this book many times. I was so turned off by the first few pages. The writing felt very underdeveloped and was hard to read. There are too many POV's that are not easy to distinguish who it is following at first. The writing almost felt like something I would have heard in high school. I kept reading, hoping that it would get better, but it never did.

Xander is one of the worst written characters I have ever read. It was very cringy how he called Isleen "baby" right away. And then he let his girlfriend/fuck buddy rub his dick in front of Isleen.... after he had taken her virginity and hid the fact he was seeing someone.

I also don't understand the description or category for this book. There are elements of fantasy in it with the "gifts" the main characters have. how is this not referenced at all? Picking this up as a dark romance and based on the description, I was expecting a completely different story. I think it shows bad writing when even the author cannot properly describe their book.

Dangerous Dreams is book 1 in the Beautiful Nightmare series by Abbie Roads and it is an amazing paranormal romance story!
The suspense and action was so compelling.
And the dark fairytale was beautifully written.
Roads does an incredible job hooking you in right from the beginning,
I could not put this book down once I started it.
I absolutely enjoyed this riveting story and I can’t wait for book two!

dnf @ 15% could not get into this one I know I am the minority here but it was just weird. When I saw that a grandma was also imprisoned with the main heroine I just couldn't bring myself to keep reading. It was even too dark for me.

I really enjoyed this book. I love the mystery it holds with how Xander and Isleen. The two of them both have unique abilities that not everyone knows about and he makes her feel safe and she silences the loud world booming in his head. It did take until the middle of chapter 3 for me to really be drawn in. The first couple of chapters I was a little lost on things but then everything starts to make sense.

I'm struggling a little with how to rate this dark, complex book. Abbie Roads is an amazing writer whose words are rich and never rushed, and this book is no exception. Even so, I felt like I was missing pieces of the story here and there.

Roads' books frequently have a (for lack of a better word) paranormal bent, though here there's an attempt to explain. Courtesy of being hit by lightning years prior, Xander has the ability to hear everything in hyper detail, including thoughts, which makes him invaluable as an interrogator for the law enforcement agency he consults for. It also provides us with a little bit of humor here in there in a story that would otherwise be more bleak than dark. Isleen has dreams of brutal crimes that are soon to happen. Between them, there's peace from these turbulent talents--for Xander, the noises that he's constantly bombarded with recede, and for Isleen, she heals physically and (presumably) mentally in Xander's arms.

However, they both carry a LOT of crappy baggage around, and that's where I feel like I'm missing something. When we first met Isleen, she's at death's door after suffering eight years of brutal captivity. We learn very little about the why and the how, at least until the near the end, and it's purposefully done that way to build suspense, I suppose. But given what we do know, the Isleen of today is a little too mature and adjusted. Don't get me wrong--she is clearly traumatized and has PTSD--but I'd expect at minimum for her development to have been stalled at age 17 and for her to be more overwhelmed by a world that didn't stop like hers did. I was a little bothered that all she needs to heal is Xander without even meeting once with a counselor. That just seemed cheaty.

Xander is kind of an asshat, at least to anyone not Isleen or mother figure Row. The way he treats the woman he'd been sleeping with for a decade (but not his girlfriend) is horrible, and making her a clingy, shrill bitch of a character is kind of a cheap shot; I don't have to sympathize with a character or even like her to see how shoddily she's treated. The way Xander loves Isleen is beautiful though, and while it didn't make up for his asshattery, it allowed me to care for him in spite of it.

Xander's backstory is a little choppy, however. We know he's estranged from his father and why, but it began when he was quite young. His whole growing-up experience is murky. Like with Isleen, it's almost a if he didn't really exist until the day he saves her. Clues are there and some are explained eventually, but it made him a little flat as a character.

There are a lot of secondary characters, and they are characterized enough for readers to figure out that they'll either be important in this story or as main characters in sequels. But in the end, there aren't a lot of surprises hidden there.

The epilogue is dedicated to setting up book 2 in this series. Will I read it. Um... Yes? Probably? I just hope that the main characters'...characters(?) are a little more three dimensional.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

Struck by lightning make Criminal investigator Xander have unique abilty, he has supercharged hearing, he can hear mind. This abilty overwhelming him but really useful in his work. For years he hear woman voice begging for help, he think its only his insanity slid off and cover it with alcohol. That is real, it is Islee voice. Isleen have ability too, see something in her dream and that how she know Xander real.

I loveee this story!! I weak for conection between two people, meeting in dream, longing for each other. The story not focus only love but there is mistery about occult also legend about bear totem. Ughh i dont like Xander relationship with Camille, he f#@* her for 10 years and still not think it is a relationship. Who screw one women for years and sais it is nothing?? Cant blame camille being jerk about it.

Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.
